O Virgin most faithful! Make me in all things so perfect a disciple, imitator and slave of incarnate Wisdom, Jesus Christ, your Son that I may come, through your intercession and your example, to the fullness of his age on earth and of his glory in heaven. Amen
These words form St. Louis de Montfort's Act of Total Consecration give a beautiful expression to the fundamental thrust of his spirituality: Christianity that is fully alive is nothing less than a radical act of total self-surrender and self-gift to the Lord Jesus Christ who, in his redemptive Incarnation, has first given himself totally over to us, and for us.
Recognizing that the Lord has first consecrated, completely given, himself to us, Fr. de Montfort rightly recognizes that one truly receives this gift in its fullness only by fully giving, that is consecrating, himself to its saving power. The great Apostle of Our Lady proposed on his masterwork, True Devotion to the Blessed Virgin Mary, an outline of a process by means of which one might prepare himself to make just such a total self-gift to Jesus through Mary.
This book, which has been prepared by the Company of Mary, the religious community founded by Fr. de Montfort himself, is both an introduction to his spirituality of total consecration and a guide for those who would prepare themselves to make his Act of Total Consecration to Jesus Christ through Mary. It is also the fruit of this same Act of Total Consecration lived out in years of missionary service of Our Lord and Our Lady in the Roman Catholic Church which we joyfully make available to the people of God.
The world needs more prayer warriors. Committing yourself to the Blessed Mother will help you sort out what matters and ensure confidence in an uncertain world.
This marks the 3rd consecutive year I have consecrated myself to Mother Mary. Also, for those interested, there is also a guide to consecrate to St. Joe which I also highly recommend.
This book leads one through a 33 day preparation to consecrate oneself to Jesus through Mary. Each day's reading includes Scripture, an excerpt of St. Louis de Montfort's writings, reflection, and prayers. These lead up to the final prayer of consecration. All the prayers are reverent as well as convicting, and I consider the 33 days of preparation time well spent.
I first made a total consecration to Our Lady on January 1, 2014 and have been renewing each Advent since with a variety of methods and books. This year I had to find a new one because I foolishly packed my regulars!
A co-worker who’s an editor and has “read them all” said this was a good one and she was right! I appreciated the daily formula, the reflection questions, and the ways the author pulls in quotes from St. Louis de Montfort into each day.
There were some hard things like on day 3 you choose a sacrifice for the rest of the preparation. I chose Instagram which has been hard not seeing Christmas posts, but good for not feeling like I need to know everything that someone does in a day or even that I need to share everything I’m doing. The world rotates without my social media post!
This is a book for Catholics who want to deepen their faith. The idea is to consecrate oneself to Christ through Mary. There are small readings and meditations covering 33 days. Then you make a final consecration. When I first started it seemed almost too simple. But as the day went on I could see the profound impact it was having on me. For Catholics we must know Mary to know Christ and to know Christ is to honor and love his Mother, Mary. This small book will open you up to untold graces.
Finished my consecration on October 7th, Our Lady of the Rosary!!! This has borne much fruit in my life, and I am feeling the graces very vividly. It also challenged me in many ways and brought some things to light.
Very, very highly recommend! Our Lady wants to know her children, and she has never rejected anyone. So basically, you should just do it :)
I love this book. I go through it at the begin of every year.
I highly recommend it to anyone who is looking for a way to deepen their prayer life. To grow their relationship with Jesus, Mary and their knowledge of self.
This was my second time using this book to make my Marian Consecration and I really can’t recommend it enough! It’s a beautiful condensed and simplified version from St. Louis de Montfort original work.
