The King's Sword

Rate this book
She came to Lynk seeking vengeance.
She found the truth—and it might destroy her.

Sabine’s hunt for her sister’s killer forces her into the hands of her own kidnapper. Trusting him may be the only way to survive, but every stolen glance and lingering touch makes her wonder if survival is all she wants.

Together, they escape into Avoni, a kingdom of rival assassin guilds where loyalty is bought in blood and danger waits in every corner. The farther they run, the closer they become, until Sabine can no longer tell where the lies end and the longing begins.

Back in the palace above the clouds, King Rainer tightens his grip on a deadly political game decades in the making. But he underestimates the woman he married. The pawn has become the queen, and Sabine will risk everything to win—because in this game, losing means her life, her heart, and her kingdom.

I decided to give this sequel a chance because I thought this was a duology but no??? It's a trilogy but the third book doesn't exist yet 😂

Basically, the only reason I finished this book was because I thought I'd get closure and see what happens. Well, nothing happens...literally. The MC spends the whole book with some other guy she has insta-love with and they travel, and evade assassins and she calls him a pirate-assassin-prince a gazillion times. WE GET IT GIRL.

We get the barest info about what's actually going on behind the scenes in the political world but that's it. I was hoping for far more. 2.5 disappointed stars. The only good things about this is that both of these books were on the shorter side and I read them quite fast + this is my 100th and last book this year!!!

Something something about second books introducing a new male love interest. Technically Evander was introduced at the end of book 1 but he was unnamed. Well he was a bit busy being an assassin-pirate-prince kidnapping her so.

Anyway I loved their romance developing, Sabine and Evander were a pleasant surprise. They were developed beautifully and I'm compelled with their story. Despite, loving Rainer in the first book, I'm kinda glad Evander is probably the endgame love interest because all the things Rainer was doing didn't make sense as a love interest until this book shifted the focus onto Evander. I love this plot and story because it makes sense to Sabine's own development as a character.

They are absolutely serving the forbidden love trope and it just turned up to the max at the ending. The tension between them when he'll marry Lottie and Sabine is someone else's wife while they interact at awkward royal events will be hilariois. I can't wait for the next book and hopefully collect my endgame.

*Thoughts*

Jennifer Anne Davis' The King's Sword is the second installment in the authors League of Rulers series. This story begins right where the first installment left off. Sabine, the new Queen of Lynx, has been kidnapped by an Aroni assassin named Evander. Evander hoped to stop the wedding between Sabine and Rainer Manfred, the King of Lynx, from taking place because the League, which did not give their permission, knew that there would be no stopping Rainer from invading other countries.

This book picks up right where the first book ends. We find ourselves traveling with the young princess as she learns who she really is and who she is currently aligned with. The author always amazes me how she is able to weave a beautiful story and have these diverse characters that have multi layered personalities. I think this book is perfect for anyone who loves adventures, romance, action, and mystery. So, what are you waiting for? Please read this book and Embark on a beautiful journey.

'Assassin-pirate-prince' lives rent free in my brain, and I love it.

This book absolutely saw my 'tropes I love' list and DELIVERED. (I won't list them all; we'd be here forever.)

When I first read this book and witnessed the development between Sabine and Evander, I wasn't initially a fan. (Mostly because it seems to be a trend where the 'true' love interest is introduced/developed in the second book rather than the initial love interest making it over the finish line. While I openly abhor insta-love, I'm also ready to move on from this particular structure.) However, Evander grew on me. Which, of course he would, because I have an undeniable thing for assassins. A fact which I have accepted about myself and feel zero shame for, lol.

At first glance, it really seems like Evander is simply meant to be the LI, but his role is so much more important in that he is a kind of guide-post for how Sabine sees herself, discovering how she wants to be seen, as well as learning which of her limits she's willing to push and what talents of her own she wishes to exploit. In short: Evander helps Sabine grow in ways no other character could instigate.

This book really is about Sabine's growth and her ability to adapt to some awful situations. In the first book, we followed a princess on a mission of revenge. Now, we are on the journey of a young woman learning what it means to be a queen. I'm eager to see the ruler she becomes in book 3.

Sabine was kidnapped by Evander and taken to see her brother and the others in the League of Rulers. When Evander offers to make sure Sabine gets back to her kingdom safely while avoiding an assassin that is looking for her, it forces the two of them to spend lots of time together alone. Will he manage to see her safely home? Will he decide she’s too much of a risk and kill her himself? Will the life threatening situation bring them closer together than is proper?

This is the second book in the League of Rulers series and it picks up where the first book ends.

I loved the first book and I loved this one. The only thing I hated in both is the cliff hanger endings. I will be anxiously awaiting the release of the next book.

I love how this book expands on more of the world. The geography and cultures of the three kingdoms that have been introduced in the series so far have been vastly different and wonderful.

The story gets more and more interesting. I feel bad for Sabine. Married to Ranier but finding out he may be ruthless and manipulative can make you question all you thought you knew. Since Evander is a trained assassin, can she truly trust him and everything he has told her?

I’m excited to see how this story ends. Who is telling the truth? Who is the real villain? Will Sabine survive? So many questions! I do have some theories but I haven’t to wait to find out. Gah!

I love it!

I'm getting Ackley vibes from Evander. I hope Sabine and Evander end up together because I don't like Ranier at all! I don't like Lynk or any of his family. I really really hope there's a happy ending for them. I'm excited for the next book. Jennifer is truly my favorite author. She's amazing! I've read all her series multiple times and this one will be no different🥰

I thought this was a Duology. I had read the first book and was disappointed. I decided to give this book a chance because I wanted closure. Unfortunately, this series has become a trilogy. There was no forward movement with the storyline. The MFC is very shallow and pampered even though the author attempted to give her a backbone.

I will not be reading book 3 if it ever is released.

The story continues and secrets keep piling up, let’s see what happens for Sabine next. I like that she’s starting to act more mature and not as childish and willful as she did in the first book. Even at 18, she is learning to be strong!

I liked the book (I wish it was longer) but I’m a Rainer girl and was not into the eavander/sabine ship. Can’t wait for the next book — I hope Rainer is redeemed!

📖3⭐️1🌶️ This really felt like a filler. Which I get, when it’s a few chapters but a whole book?
