More shouty shenanigans and shocking surprises laid in store in the second instalment of this stellar manga series.

The storyline progressed at full speed, including new side characters to help flesh out the main characters who provided bucketloads of authentic and hilarious interactions. The way the protagonist, Ichijo, and the main love interest, Onodera, danced around their attraction to each other and teased the reader by drawing out their almost confession would have been bordering on annoying had it not been for the many other side stories that happily offered to distract the reader.

The addition of new characters added excitingly new and unexpected variables to the already wild and unpredictable storyline. There’s no telling where things will go in Nisekoi: False Love, Vol. 3: What's in a Name?!

This volume of Nisekoi was out of stock at my favorite online retailer for quite a while--over a year--and I ended up receiving and reading v. 3 before this one. Not that the order makes all that much difference, since the only development of any kind happened at the very end of v. 2 and continuing into v. 3.

My impression of this volume isn't substantially different from the first one. Cute characters, funny double takes, cliched and unoriginal storytelling. Comedy is quite low on my list of favorite genres (it beats mystery and battle manga, though not by much), which might be biasing me against it. It crept up to "decent" by v. 3, but that isn't enough to justify pursuing more of it, considering I'm trying to pare down my manga shelves to leave only my forever-favorites. Two and a half stars, rounded down.

I’m glad they’re not longing out everything for eight volumes and by volumes 2 their friends know their not actually dating.

OK, it's light and silly and maybe the perfect thing to be reading during a wildfire. Maybe. Either way, we seem to be multiplying the girls, but that makes this a typical harem story. Maybe Ai Yori Aoshi did it better, and Tenchi Muyo was sillier, but you know, this storyline is growing on me. My only complaint? Not enough Yakuza. If we're supposed to have gangsters, then let's see a little more of the gang!

So maybe on this volume I'd give this one a 3.5. Who knows, I might even figure this for a 4 and blame it on exhaustion or something.

Sure, why not?

*Nisekoi* is a series that quickly becomes a "guilty pleasure", but one that you are not guilty about at all. I just wonder if we will ever find out which girl truly has the key to fit the lock, and who is his one true love.

This is the most legit 5 stars I've given a manga. Like I said in my review of the first one, my brother got me to read this series so we could talk about it. The first one was good enough that I wanted to keep going, and I'm so glad I did!
This book had me laughing so often. It was engaging the whole way. I think getting used to the backwards reading helped me read this one faster too.
I love it! 2 down...23 to go!

I liked the first volume better. This one just seemed to be a bit too over-exaggerated compared to the first one.

This volume of Niseoki is even more uproariously hilarious than the first! Raku and Chitoge have muffed things up royally, yet are still (miraculously) managing to fool everyone into believing their relationship is genuine, but keeping up the facade is proving more complicated than ever. I have to say I've been pleasantly surprised by this shonen manga so far. There's very little sexual fan service (so far) and the predicaments these outrageous characters land themselves in are actually funny and very entertaining to read. I wouldn't say this manga is a top-priority, but I look forward to continuing it in the future!

Cliched as all hell, and boringly so
Sure, there's a couple of silly moments but the rest is just painful. The cast is walking cardboard of regurgitated tropes w/ the average intelligence of a baby seal

And the book's end is a clumsy ripoff of Ranma 1/2?! Complete with anime-physics drop into a swimming pool no less

I just finished Volume 2 of Nisekoi, and to my surprise, the dynamic pacing and evolving character relationships haven’t lost momentum—at least not yet. The web of relationships is undeniably complex, but unlike so many romantic comedies that spiral into repetitive, circular scenarios, Nisekoi continues to push things forward on multiple fronts. Most notably, the relationship between Raku and Kosaki doesn’t stall in the usual pattern of misunderstandings and prolonged silence. Rather than dragging out the false assumption that Raku and Chitoge are a real couple for volume after volume, the story allows Ruri to directly tell Kosaki the truth relatively early on. Raku, for his part, has his doubts about whether Kosaki likes him, but those doubts aren’t treated with artificial cluelessness. He picks up on her subtle signs of affection, and it affects his behavior in ways that feel both believable and considerate. This keeps his emotional arc from looping endlessly—he’s cautious, but he’s not stagnant.

Simultaneously, the bond between Raku and Chitoge begins to evolve as well, mostly because the narrative forces them into close-quarters situations that highlight their vulnerabilities. Whether it’s being locked in a room together—where we learn about Chitoge’s claustrophobia—or the classic near-drowning rescue scene, these moments don’t just serve as contrived rom-com beats. Instead, they open a slow, mutual acknowledgment: neither of them is as awful as the other once believed. Raku starts to notice Chitoge’s femininity, while Chitoge begins to see Raku’s quiet strength. The shift is subtle but emotionally grounded. One scene in particular stood out to me: after Raku instinctively saves Chitoge from drowning, he says that his body “just moved on its own.” Chitoge, flustered and fumbling, tries multiple times to thank him, each attempt comedically derailed before she finally gets it out - but only in English. The humor is charming, the timing sharp, and the payoff—her shy, sincere gratitude—genuinely sweet. It’s one of the first moments where their fake relationship starts to feel real, not just to them, but to the reader as well.

What continues to impress me is how actively the supporting cast contributes to the narrative momentum. Far from being passive background characters who simply whisper advice, Ruri and Shu take proactive roles in shaping events. Ruri doesn’t just suspect Chitoge’s feelings—she sets up the swimming lesson, asks pointed questions in front of Raku, and essentially uncovers the truth herself. Shu, meanwhile, outright tells Raku that Kosaki likes him, cutting through the usual web of speculation and avoidance. These immediate actions give the story an unusual clarity: misunderstandings happen, but they’re confronted and resolved rather than endlessly prolonged. This applies not only to the central love triangle, but to the ongoing mystery of Raku’s childhood promise. Even after Kosaki denies being the girl from the past, Raku keeps investigating. He doesn’t just accept her word as final—he stays curious, attentive. When Raku loses the pendant, instead of becoming a drawn-out melodrama, Chitoge simply finds it and returns it—while quietly reflecting on her own half-remembered promise. I really liked this narrative mirroring: two parallel threads, both uncertain, both treated with gentle introspection. There are also clever subversions that keep the story fresh. Take Seishiro’s introduction: the classic male rival trope—until the reveal that Seishiro is actually a girl. It’s a fun, unexpected twist that plays with genre expectations in a way that feels earned rather than gimmicky.

That said, not everything lands. There’s one moment that pulled me out: right when Kosaki gathers the courage to confess her feelings, a baseball crashes through the window and ruins everything. It’s the kind of forced interruption that reminds you yes, you’re still in a rom-com, and it’s frustrating mostly because of what follows—Kosaki convinces herself that being “just friends” might be enough. If this becomes a dragged-out beat of self-denial, I can already feel the irritation creeping in. But so far, I’m optimistic.

All in all, Volume 2 reaffirms what made the first volume so compelling: expressive artwork, emotionally grounded progression, and a refreshing refusal to rely on tired tropes. If Nisekoi can continue to develop its characters with this kind of clarity and nuance, I can see myself fully invested in the long run. Volume 3 can’t come soon enough.

3.5 stars.

Pretty good series so far.

Enjoying the plot and characters, I think that they are developing well. It is also good to see that there are other characters that are getting fleshed out as well.

Again though, the cliche was really bad. Like,

Also, the constant bickering, while reducing, is getting pretty annoying, I hope that Komi reduces it in later volumes.

Overall, was a good second volume, bar the cliche and cringe jokes.

So, Chitoge continues to be violent and kinda a brat, and we have Kosaki being more bashful in this, as well as another character, Tsugumi, who shows up to challenge Raku. It ends on a cliffhanger as a lot of these usually do. Again, nothing special but it has good art and is amusing enough to continue. If I had read less mangas it would have hit better, but right now the been there done that plot hold it back a bit.

I bought this, as the library holds would take several weeks to come in (someone else had borrowed the only copy). Anyway, I really liked it! It was a fast read, about 45 minutes, and introduced Tsugumi, Chitoge's childhood friend. Everything in that part of the volume was hilarious! It was a lot of fun to read these chapters, and I will definitely be continuing with the series! 4.5 stars.

Well, the premise and plot are still interesting. I find the characters yell too often (but that could just be the style). I don’t super love the main guys romantic interest and prefer the overbearing girl. It’s good enough to read the next one.

Really surprised how much I enjoyed this considering I wasn’t wowed by the first volume. I think as the romance plot line enhances it’ll get better. A solid volume and I’m excited to read more when I come back to this series :)

These are the first real manga books I have read. So far they are pretty good. The drama of a relationship and trying to find out who is actually the real love in this series is keeping me wanting to read.

I honestly don't see how there can be so many more volumes of this series. It already feels like the main plot point is unravelling, but I guess I'll find out! Still a very tame, clean romance that is okay for middle school in my opinion.

The first couple chapters were the same comedy I expected from the first one.
But oh my god. Those last two chapters. Those were fantastic.
