This series just fascinates me!! The world building is so unique and the storyline is like no other! I can’t compare this series to another series because it’s in a class all of its own. The writing is beautiful and so real. I don’t know what to say except flawless job!! I was so glad when the author offered me an ARC to review because I really loved book one and I can say that I’m not disappointed with book two!

I think Brianna is taking all the pressure very well. This girl is taken to a whole new dimension, where she is prophecized to be this all special being. And oddly, she can’t have the one boy she loves, who literally would give his life for her. I think she is growing nicely and shaping into a character you’ll easily enjoy reading about. She has so many trials and duties placed on her, that you forget she is only a freshman in college. Can she really save both Ethos and Earth? And will she finally get to be with Kalen? I guess you’ll have to read to find out!

As supporting characters go, I do love Kalen. He’s an awesome pick but my favorite character is Arden. Kalen is the total package in a guy. And he’s totally all about Brianna! But Arden is like the very cool best friend that has all these totally mind blowing secrets! Thank goodness she’s on their side and how awesome is her part in this story! And Athena… I’ll just say she is so cool!! I can’t say any more on that LOL

Overall, I can’t wait to read the next installment. The story and characters are getting more complex and it’s a beautiful thing to see! I feel like I’m a part of the characters and I’m so invested! I think anyone who loves fantasy and urban fantasy will love this series! Go out and get your copy now!! 5 PAWS from me!!

Well there, long overdue for this review!

I am back from a very long reading hiatus. It might not be truly long, but it felt like a horribly extended period of time and I am happy to be reading once again! So allow me to launch right into my review then, shall I? Bear with me as I try to dance around this wonderful second instalment and not spoil it for any prospective readers interested in this wonderful work.

In order to truly enjoy this book it really is a good idea to have read Ethos: Morning Star, first. The second book in the series begins just minutes from where the previous book left off. Literally it is as if she kept on writing and didn’t write a re-introduction or anything to waste the reader’s time in jumping right back to the plot. However, a new reader to the series may find themselves at sea from this, hence the above suggestion. We begin with our illustrious heroes where we previously left them on Ethos, They must sally forth to rescue those held captive by the evil (my favourite description ever!) Jeryth-mullet wearing Ellette. And must foil her dastardly machinations from destroying the delicate balance which has existed between Earth and Ethos for a millennium! I loved that this was the case, the story launched right into the suspense that we had left off with and it didn’t leave too much time for this reader to grow restful in the process.

As Brianna and Kalen work to overcome multiple obstacles, we get to see them handle these challenges together. Kalen and Brianna’s developing relationship is sappy-cute at times, but in a good warm-fuzzy inducing way. I was squeeing aloud at parts, just because they were so adorably written. Also as they learn to puzzle through, they aren’t alone in this monumental task of meeting a few new characters along the way. These characterizations were well written and not at all alike, each evoking their own personality and voice. A much appreciated skill that appears once again in this novel. There were some mysteries that were brought up previously that I had suspected, but have since been confirmed about one in particular, but in a good way. Overall, this book left me wanting the next in the series to already be out and ready to read!

The universe Desiree Finkbeiner weaves is still present, and very strong. With the same touches and solid descriptions of both her characters and the world they exist in. I loved these things so much in Morning Star, it makes this reader very happy to see she’s maintained these aspects wonderfully in Equinox. Her unique world building still managed to fascinate and seem fresh and original. The only major change I can think to note is that there is a lot of difference however in the writing between the first book and Ethos: Equinox, she’s only improved since the first part of the series and she gets all kinds of praise for it from me.

This book has earned a five star rating from me. I loved how the story has developed and I am impatient to read the next part in the series!

I was given a free copy of this book, but for whatever reason my Kindle refused to send it to me, so I purchased this book. I’m quite pleased that I bought it, however, as I enjoy supporting such a wonderful Author as she does what she loves. just keep writing Ms. Finkbeiner, and I’ll keep reading! It should go without saying that this review expresses my honest opinion.

I wasn't that excited to read the second book in the series, since I didn't like the first book. The idea of this series is very unique and refreshing, so I decided to give this one a try. And I am NOT disappointed after reading this, at all.
Minor spoilers if you have not read the first book in the series, Morning Star (read my review here.)
Bree and Kalen have been through so many ups and downs. It should finally be the time for them to relax and drawn in their love in Ethos. But the universe has different plans. The council is not very keen on letting them be joined together, since they have proof that Kalen is not suitable to be the "morning star"s mate. At the same time, Ellette is getting more power from her minions -the banished Ethorians- and she is ready to conquer the Earth.
As Bree and friends begin to save the Earth, they meet new friends, new enemies, until it's impossible to tell the difference. Will Kallen and Bree ever be able to be together? Will they save the Earth before it's too late? Will they be able to end Ellette's rule, once and for all. Find out more when you read this imaginative, thought-provoking tale.
I have to admit that this book was WAY better than the first book. The writer's style has improved and it is very enjoyable. I love her world-building of Ethos, although we don't get to see so much of Ethos in this book, unfortunately. I love the twist that this book took, it was definitely not what I expected. One thing that irks me with this series, and I think will always do, is: Bree. I just don't connect with her. I feel nothing for her, at all. I don't really care what happens to her. But because the characters care about her so much, I can't help but wish that she will make out of the mess alright, poor Kalen! I adore him.
I cannot wait to see what Desiree has in store for us in the third book. Definitely much more kick-ass and action scenes. This book is a hell of a ride. Full of unexpected twists, heartbreaking betrayals, and ever-lasting true love. You should start reading this series, now.

Second in her Ethos series, Desiree Finkbeiner’s Equinox starts up just as Morning Star ends. The story is ramping up by now as Brianna and Kalen (newly raised from seeming death), strive to save not one world, but two, from the evil elvish Ellette. The laws of Ethos insist the two protagonists cannot be together, but human love seems likely to prevail in this tale where obscure mythologies are well-blended with ancient history and modern imagination.

I really enjoyed the first half of this book—more so than its predecessor. The characters feel deeper and their emotions more real. Touches of faith both behind and in opposition to laws are very nicely done. And occasionally overblown dialog is well-balanced with action and thought as the story moves back to earth and into the wilds of America. Even the first touches of conspiracy theories worked for me, feeling well in character. But the story slows when discussions Big Pharma, the dangers of childhood vaccinations, and the usurping of the American Constitution take the stage.

Not a book for serious scientists, or for readers overly frustrated by unintended word-choices, this is still an intriguing tale, offering a good mix of myth, law and love, complex imagination, and an enjoyable hint of more behind life than the facts our senses perceive.

Disclosure: I was given a free ecopy of this novel and I’m offering my honest review.

I have to say that this instalment definitely captured me a lot more than the first book, mainly due to the intricate and fascinating world that is further built upon. The author really draws on the imagination of the reader and has gone to an incredible amount of effort to create the world of Ethos.
This instalment again centres around Brianna and Kalen and their mission to save not only Ethos but Earth as well from Elette and her nasty minions.
The story focuses quite a bit on the love the Brianna and Kalen feel for each other and the fact that it is forbidden due to the laws upheld by the council members in Ethos. I'd say that the romantic aspect has a tendency to take over the story a little bit in some parts but it does not diminish the book in any way.
Brianna matures as a character quite a bit during this novel and is no longer the carefree college student that she started out as in Morning Star. She has come to accept her destiny in life and the important role she holds as well as learning to control her new powers more and more as the story develops.
The only negative I found was all the new conspiracy theory discussions as I felt like I was being given a lesson in world history. I honestly have to say that these were the only parts of the book where I felt a little lost.
Overall, this is a fascinating and unique fantasy series that I would recomment to anyone with an interest in this genre.

Although this second book was a good continuation from the first, I feel it did not keep the same pace as the first. The ending was very disappointing. The entire story is centered around the “prophecy” and protecting the “Mathair,” it’s almost like the author forgot all about her purpose. I feel like another book to bring better closure for the main characters would’ve helped tremendously. I feel like there was so much more story to be told.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.

Eh... It is a YA book. I felt a need to read the second story as I read, and somewhat liked, the first, I'm not sure if I'd continue with the series. The read was more a labor and need to finish vs. a need to know what happens. Not bad but there are better books I have calling my attention.
