H.A.L. Wagner, acclaimed writer of the novelette "Homecoming", joins newcomer Forrest Parham "Divison Six", a hard-boiled techno-thriller that's equal parts Dashiell Hammett and Tom Clancy with a super-powered twist.
A rich man's daughter disappears in Florida starting a chain of events that brings detective Jack Hennessey into the center of an international conspiracy. Now he struggles to find answers about his past as a secret arms race explodes around him. Will Jack, and those like him, be able to use their powers to save the world or will their own demons destroy us all? Action-packed and hard as nails, "Division Six" is an instant techno-thriller classic.
I went with four stars over three because after I read it and thought about it the more I liked it. Division Six is a fun read that has all the elements of great Sci-Fi from ray guns to mutants. The story plays out around the mystery of a missing girl and her wealthy father who spends his fortune to find her. A detective, Jack Hennessey, with a "hidden" talent hires on to solve a mystery of his own. The book feels like a 1950's detective story with over the top 1950's horror movie monsters and gadgets. I loved all the characters even the villan and could see this book set up for sequels.
