Leclercq offers a beautiful bricolage from the monastic witness to portray five or six images of the essence of its life—angelic, prophetic, apostolic, evangelical/Gospel and martyrial (could also count "paradisiacal")—most of which manage to [over?]index insistently to celibacy. In the end, that's as much as the book is.
