Rate this book
On the verge of manhood, Raven's rampage continues as he begins the difficult path to Acceptance by his fellow Olympians. Out to prove he's as good, if not better than, any of them he bests the Trials set before him by Hades and Poseidon. This isn't enough for him, in his quest to prove to his Father, Ares, that he is an Olympian Raven preys upon the Mortals below Olympus in a time of great weakness. Settling for nothing less than Chaos, he enlists the aid of his Uncle Apollo and pushes the Mortals to pure anarchy when a global financial crisis leaves the entire world destitute, in ruins, and at each other's throats. Ready to conquer his Trials, take his place at the Counsel Table, and bring Ares the glory Cernunnos once prophesized, only one thing stands in his way; the night his Mother fell down the stairs.

Alena, her body asleep in Ares' bed for four long years, is lost deep in the clutches of a never-ending dream induced by Morpheus. After years of living an illusion and becoming Morpheus Wife, Alena discovers his deception and struggles to escape her prison. Morpheus has no intentions of ever letting her go. He'll fight to the death to keep her.

Apollo, ever the Man Behind the Curtain, pulls Raven's strings like a true puppet master. It's far too late when Raven realizes all he's done to please his Father actually makes Ares look guilty of destroying the Mortal World. A little Chaos and a little Anarchy aren't enough for the Golden God, in his on-going quest to destroy Ares, Apollo sets a plague loose upon the Earth. A bio-chemical weapon stolen from the United States Government at Area 51, known commonly as Major Falls. By the time the Olympians discover what's going on twenty million people are dead with the number multiplying exponentially every day.

With only one option left to each of them, Raven and Alena turn to their unlikeliest of enemies-- Aphrodite and Apollo for help. One night in the bed of the Goddess of Love can be painful but one night in the bed of the Golden God can kill and destroy all that Ares and Alena have built and endured. To ensure that her beloved Husband and her Son are not put to death she may have no other choice.

Spell Bounding!

Wow! Many words can describe how fantastic this 4th installment of the "Of War" series is. I was totally Spell Bound, the story captivated me from the first page, and the writing is so creative and brilliantly written that it kept me glued to the pages. All day small scene clips played over and over in my mind recalling and reminding me how intense, heart breaking, shocking, and on the edge of my seat thrilling the story was. Though this story is a long novel, the drama is wicked with infuriating situations that will have you fuming towards some of the gods as the author shows us a side that is despicable, jealously motivated, and cruelly demented. At the same time the author shows the heroic side and will have you cheering the characters on in their revenge and conquests.

The connection between all the characters are electrifying and draw you in. The author does a fantastic job with the characters emotions of hate, love, lust, and deceit in a way that it felt so real world like. Going into this read my feelings towards Raven were bad and I had grown to hate him from the last book because of his devilish acts towards his mother but the author took his character that was great to hate and flipped his demeanor around to a semi-redeemable caring person towards others as he experienced the trials he had to go through to become an Olympian. He became heroic in his challenges as he rescued his half sister from the Fiery lake in the Underworld and as he killed the great sea monster in Poseidon sea.

The story's plot is intense and exciting showing how dedication and determination can over come some of the harshest situations. The erotic scenes are mind blowing especially when Raven is initiated into manhood. With a little help from the Olympian Gods the passion and desire will take you beyond no return so get ready for a sensory overload when the erotic escapades blast above the imagination.

Even though most of the story is intense and thrilling, there were sweet and tender moments that Raven's sister Rose captures as her actions touch your heart. I loved how the author added a physical handicap disadvantage to the story because it showed even though physically someone might not be as strong but mentally they far exceeded everyone else's abilities making the ones not handicap the ones lacking in substance as a person.

Overall, it was fantastic to read more about Ares and Alena and to see their love tried and tested beyond extremes. It was neat to see Raven grow into maturity even though he caused devastation on earth which by the way was another great accomplishment the author portrayed by bringing in similar current events into the story. Most important, it was great to read the awesome drama between the Gods Apollo, Hades, Poseidon, Zeus, Hera, Athena, Aphrodite, and the Nymphs.

I totally look forward to the next installment in the Of War Series to find out what happens to Ares and Raven down on earth, will they fix all the chaos Raven caused? What will happen to Alena and Rose now that they are back on Ares island, will the deadly plague overtake the world to include even the Olympians? Will Raven take out his half brother Hunter? What about Raven's relationship with Aphrodite - will there be any true feelings come between them? I'm dying to know what other scheme Apollo and Zeus come up with to make things more dramatizing for Ares and Raven? Finally, will the fae heritage come to the forefront now that Raven knows who he is or will being a God wipe out that part of him; and will Rose's powers exceed even Zeus powers?

Excellent Read!

I have been a hardcore fan of this series since book one. I'll never be more thankful for the person that introduced me to these books. (thankyouthankyouthankyou, Ronda!) My love for the story and all its characters has continued to increase as the series has progressed. Knowing only one book (and one short story) remains in the series saddens me greatly, but it also excites me. I have no clue what I'll do once it's finally over because the OF WAR series is one of my top three favorite series, but everyone deserves their happy ending...or not so happy ending. *evil smirk*

Every time I read these books it's just as magical and powerful and devastating as it was the first time around. The same events still make me smile, cringe, or cry. That's how you know this is an amazing series. With Lisa's wonderful writing, that reads more like a movie in your head, there is never a dull moment. There's murder, betrayal, hot sex, action, sea monsters, and more! What more could you want? Add in the rich Mythology and you have a story that truly shines.

Book 3, Child of War: Rising Son, is yet another captivating installment in the Of War series. It's still the gritty, sexy, roller coaster ride we've all grown to know and love, only better. The story line is even more complex, more entertaining, more heart-warming! Motives are being revealed, secrets exposed, and chaos has been unleashed in the Mortal world!

CoW:RS sets up for what is sure to be a mind-blowing ending to an already epic series. Bring it on!

My rating: 3.5 out of 5 stars

"You're arrogant, ignorant, impetuous, narcissistic, and worst of all, stupid. You sicken me."

~Ares, God of War

**please note that I did not skip book #3. What is considered the third installment is a very a short read about Christmas on Olympus.**

Rising Son gives you absolutely no recovery time. The introduction is crushing, emotional and heartbreaking. I have to continue my praise for Ms. Darling and her ability to rip the emotion right out of you, the reader. You don't read the intense moments, you live them, whether you want to or not. For me, I find that impressive and even though I gave this installment 3.5 stars, it still remains true that she is exceptionally talented in many, many ways.

While Rising Son is a continuation of Raven's journey, the reader is gifted with a new standout that captivated me from the beginning and held true throughout...

description

Baby Rose

Precious baby Rose suffered more in her first couple hours of life than anyone should have to suffer for the entire length of theirs. Born extremely premature, for reasons I'll let you, the reader, discover on your own, it seemed as though she didn't stand a chance. In the eyes of the Olympians, she is a disgrace, an abomination and an embarrassment. Due to their shaded views and monumentous arrogance, they cannot see beyond her physical deformities and and cognitive delays. With her mother fighting for her own life, struggling to return to her family while her body lays still, she is ridiculed, abused and simply tossed aside by her relatives and Rose is much, much more than they give her credit for and joining Rose on her little journey is both heartwarming and heartbreaking at the same time. One thing is certain, she will steel your heart. Ares and Rose...just, yeah.♥

Raven. I just...I cannot wrap my brain around this kid and his actions. Don't get me wrong, he shows signs of redemption in this installment but I have yet to warm up to him. Each time I felt a tinge of redemption coming forth, he would say something or do something, or SOMEONE and then just like that, I was back to loathing him. It isn't his arrogance or even the chip on his shoulder really. For me, it's his utter lack of respect for the women in his life. His view of his own mother, how he treats her, talks to her, it's nothing short of disgusting. Only a mothers love I guess cause me, personally, I've had enough and so has Ares...finally. Do not get me started on his actions where Trinity and Rose are concerned. And now, his destruction goes well beyond Olympus, what is unfolding in the mortal world below is nothing short of shocking. Is there anything he isn't capable of?

I'm not sure there's anything the Olympians can do at this point that will shock or disgust me any more than they already have. They are my ultimate guilty pleasure. When Hera began salivating at the idea of being sandwhiched between her son and her grandson...wow. So why 3.5 stars? In Rising Son, Raven begins his Trials in his effort to become a true Olympian. There were some interesting revelations during his trials, revelations that opened up the storyline further. That being said, I felt his trials went on a little too long, names and places I could barely pronounce, it just seemed a bit much. I found myself reading faster just to get back to what was going on in Olympus. More editing is needed. There are typos, which can happen so I didnt make too big of a deal out of those but words missing, him when it should say her or vice versa. I had some confusion in regards to a sex scene involving multiple partners. I thought Apollo was first but then it switched to Eros. There was another side character mentioned that I thought had died previously. Could be my mistake, I tried going back to clarify but I couldn't find it. Unfortunately, such issues can take away from the reading experience. Even so, I can't wait for book #5, Rising Son ends with quite the cliffhanger!

Favorite Lines “I will always catch you, my Wife, and I will never let you go.”

“I'm sorry, Alena, I'm so sorry, I'll do anything if you'll come back to me, I'm utterly lost without you. I love you, please, please, come back.”

“Say it again. My name, say it again."
"Alena," Ares returned softly. "My Wife, my beautiful Wife, Alena, I love you so much.”

“Like a God," he whispered, tilting her head to look at him. "Like a man.”

“All Mothers want to feel that their children need them, to some extent, no matter how old or grown they become.”

Lisa Beth Darling DOES IT AGAIN!!! When reading this series I wonder how I can want to scream one page and cry the next and I know it's all because of this author fabulous writing skills!
After Alena fell she went into a deep sleep or so Ares thought but really another Olympian has her. My poor Ares was heart broken through this whole book. Raven on the other hand went from being a spoiled rotten brat, to a punk, to maybe a salvageable man. I'm rooting for him I really am!
I can't wait for what comes next I know it's gonna be good!
This series is for anyone and everyone who loves some crazy, backstabbing, action packed, loving, fighting, and kick ass Olympians! Ares is and always will be my favorite! Alena too! You get sucked into this world from chapter one. The writing flows never any boring spots it just keeps getting better and better!

Raven is out to prove to his father that he can be acceptd by everyone. He passes the trials set for him but somehow thats not enough for him. he sets out and prays on the mortals below, with the help from his uncle Appollo he creates chaos for the world below.

Alena struggling living in an illusion trying hard to break free of the lies and deseption she has found her life to be. Married to Morpheus a ver y dangerous man who will stop at nothing to keep her where she is.

seeing he is wrong in what he is doing Raven see that Apollo is doing nothing other then pulling his strings to make his father look bad. but Apollo isnt happy with with just making Ares look bad, he sets a plague on the mortal world and hundreds of people are dead before the Olympians discover whats going on.

Overall view:

This is a story what gets you gripped right from the start. At the moment with being pregnant and tiered all the time I struggle to find a book that keeps me glued and doesnt send me to sleep but im happy to say this one I managed to read all the way through. It is filled with amazing characters that you either love or hate and they help you stay with them on there journey. I think this is a series that you really should try.

Our Review by LITERAL ADDICTION's Pack Alpha - Chelle:

I have been a fan of this author and series since book #1, and Lisa Beth stays true to her niche with a dark, dangerous and beautifully disturbing 4th installment in the OF WAR series. As I've said in every review of the series so far, these books are not for the faint of heart - they're dark, violent, and a bit depraved - but if you like mythology, horror, and dystopia, you will enjoy Lisa's no holds barred approach to erotic paranormal.

After a devastating ending to Alena and Ares's relationship in the last book, Child of War - Rising Son reunites the couple and makes their partnership even stronger. Elsewhere, the boy we love to hate, Raven, is continuing his rampage of immature and unforgivable acts in his attempt to prove that he's a 'true' Olympian.

There are so many things going on in this book and each and every one will have you glued to the page each step of the way, right up to the twist at the end that will leave you a bit breathless.

I'm definitely looking forward to Women of War and the next step in this truly unique and unforgettable series.

I was amazed that Lisa Beth Darling managed to do it again, she pulled me right into this story and I couldn't put the book down! This series just keeps getting better and better. The story is amazing and stunning. This story is mythology with a little dystopian brought into the mix.

The things that happen on Olympus are dispicable.....no morals, no regrets, no remorse. There is not much to like about any of the Gods, they love themselves enough so I guess that doesn't really matter. Alena and Ares have been suffering for the last four years, each in their own heartbreaking way. Raven is listening to the wrong person, following the wrong path, he is a typical Olympian, cruel, brash, uncaring.

The story is awesome. The writing is great. The imagination that went into this series is astonishing. Love this series!

WOW I must say I love how Raven's story is coming along and how adorable Rose is. The first part of this book I felt sorry for Ares, I mean come on who feels sorry for a God, and everything that he is going through. No I will not put any spoilers in. You got to read this one for your self to see just how well the author added things in.

I was given a free ARC copy of this story in exchange for an honest review
