Dance on Fire #2

Flash Point

Rate this book
Five years after the death of their only child Tiffany, Steve and Angie Rosen receive an unexpected guest to their Morro Bay, California home: their daughter. She comes with a tale of having suffered a terrible head wound in the fire that took their Kingsburg home, causing her loss of memory and migraine headaches that force her to hide from daylight in order to prevent. Tiffany's reemergence is treated like Manna from Heaven; however, her story is only half true. Tiffany is a vampire and their daughter in name only. She sleeps during the day and hunts for human blood during the night, and has come back to enact a twisted revenge upon those who ruined the plans of her master, the notorious vampire, Vincent. And she is not alone. Five years after the terrible events that reshaped the Swedish Village, Kingsburg lies unsuspecting as five vampires descend upon her with a great evil in their black hearts. Five years after old wounds have finally healed and the old fires were thought extinguished, Police Chief Michael Lopez and Officer Mark Jackson and their families find themselves surrounded when fires blaze anew. The good vampire, Nathaniel, has pledged his service to these people, but he is no longer among them. He lives high in the Oregon Mountains near the California border, seeking whether God might have a place in His kingdom yet for him. When Nathaniel discovers that Tiffany has returned, will he be too late to stop her? And will his desire to protect his friends destroy what God has begun in him? It will all begin with a Flash Point.

Upon discovering the likes of Stephen King, Clive Barker and Michael Slade while in his teens, James Garcia Jr. soon began creating his own dark worlds. Not prepared to write and be a mature husband and father, that passion was boxed away for nearly twenty years. Then, not wanting to allow regret to fester, he finally removed that box from the attic of his heart and opened it. He now has four novels: the stand-alone paranormal romance "Seeing Ghosts" and the three volume (so far) "Dance on Fire" crossover vampire series.

I was excited to have won a copy of this book, as I had read the first, Dance on Fire, and was interested in seeing what happens next. James Garcia Jr. did not disappoint. Flashpoint picks up 5 years after the events that happend in Dance on Fire. Nathaniel is living in a monestary, trying to find if God does have a place for him in our world. He is plagued by nightmares and becoming increasingly worried about his extended family. He fears a great evil is about to fall and is he ever right.

The beginning is a little slow. Tiffany's parents are mourning her death and there is a great deal put into the beginning to show how they have grown apart. But then things pick up and they don't let up. Just when I thought it was all over, the author throws in a twist at the end and sets the series up for the next book.

If you read the first, (and really you should so you aren't lost,) you will laugh at the twins. They are in kindergarten, but act so much older. Jarrod has a girlfriend and Michael is now the Chief of Police. And Tiffany is back. I am sure when she was alive she was a sweet girl but now she is just pure evil. I lost a night of sleep reading this because I couldn't put it down.

I wish I could give it five stars, unfortunately the beginning felt like nothing but filter, chapter after chapter dragged on. However, once we got into the heart & soul of Dance on Fire, I was brought back to how much I loved book one and truly enjoyed book two. Once again the Garcia family is threatened when a blast from the past returns for revenge, but no worries, Nathaniel is never far behind. The characters are written beautifully, the twins are so much fun, they brought a nice feel to the book. James did not disappoint, look forward to book three.
