Ephesians presents readers with a volatile mix of assurance, exhilarating worship, and forceful exhortation--a bracing challenge to today's church. The letter convinces Thomas R. Yoder Neufeld that the grace-gift of faithfulness leads to worship. Power, peace, and new creation are gifts of grace equipping the church to participate in God's reconciling embrace. This commentary guides readers to a life-changing encounter with Ephesians, probing interpretations, refreshing Christian teaching, and calling everyone to "walk" accordingly, with a song in heart and throat.
Yoder Neufeld offers a concise, critical commentary rooted in the Anabaptist tradition. While he perhaps sees baptism in more places than other scholars, it was a challenging read on the nature of church, calling to worship, service, evangelism, and life in Christ. He handles the household codes thoughtfully and has a dynamic understanding of the armor of God from his studies of the Divine Warrior in the OT. An excellent alternative vantage for sometimes overfamiliar passages.
I mean, it's a Bible commentary. So it's not fascinating novel. But still, I found this book to rekindle my love for Ephesians, and the many ways that this book of the Bible is becoming increasingly relevant today.
