Hope Taylor is a practical, happy and content nineteen-year-old with a solid and hardworking boyfriend named Trent. Life is going according to plan until Joey Puccino enters the picture. Now her life is off course and she's torn between two guys. Where will she end up?

Summer Rush is a very light, quick and easy-to-read New Adult romance. Technically, Ashley Wilcox has done a nice job with the writing. Word usage, spelling, punctuation...it's obvious there was good effort put into this aspect of the writing and editing process. That's a real plus and something to be very proud of in the sometimes inconsistent world of self-publishing.

Personally, I do feel like Summer Rush was missing some character development, emotional depth and maturity. However, with time, effort and experience, I have no doubt the storytelling will only improve.

I look forward to what the future will bring us from Ashley Wilcox.

WOW! WOW! WOW! Ashley Wilcox first book (Planning On Forever) was awesome. I knew I was going to enjoy reading Summer Rush. Well, enjoy doesn't even come close to the emotions I felt while loosing myself in this incredible journey. Hope has a great boyfriend, Trent that she loves, he is everything a woman would want, charming, kind, handsome, he is love with Hope, and she struggles with her feelings, is she really "in love"? Everything changes when she sees Joey for the first time. The doubts she had about Trent are much stronger than ever. She very dedicated to those she loves, especially her loving parents. Will she follow her heart? Or will some bad choices from Joey's past ruin true love?

I must also mention that Ashley has a wonderful way of pulling you right into her books, many times I was swept away, and the "rush" was captivating! You will absolutely LOVE this book. I can't wait for her next book, the next amazing journey that will leave you feeling every emotion, and just wanting more! So much more!

I am biased as I am the author, but I will say that I do personally love this book and really enjoyed writing it. Summer Rush gets a little deeper into emotions than my first book Planning on Forever and it touches base on more mature issues.

I hope you all enjoy reading it as much as I loved writing it!

Hope Taylor is a 19 year old college student, who studies to be a nurse during the day and waits tables at night. She comes from a very humble home with caring and loving parents. Hope's mom and dad were involved in a very serious accident when her mother was only seven months pregnant. From the impact, her mother sustained very serious injuries that left her in paralysis from the neck down. For most of her life, Hope has helped her father take care of her mother. Her life basically consists of surfing in the early morning, caring for her mom, studying, and working.

Since Hope doesn't get much of a chance to have a social life, she's fairly content with how things are going with her life; especially with her boyfriend, Travis. Travis is a very kind, handsome and hardworking guy who loves just spending time with her at the restaurant she works at or visiting her house for lunch. Hope and Travis' relationship isn't all too complicated and he's just the type of guy that most girls would love to settle down with. But a rift grows between Hope and Travis as soon as Hope sets her eyes on Joey Puccino. He's rude, arrogant, and egotistical. He's the total opposite of Travis but for some reason really gets under her skin and has her blood boiling. She then starts to have dreams and can't stop thinking about this complete stranger who has been nothing but rude to her from the moment they meet.

Now I won't go any further as to what happens after that because I don't want to give too much away but you basically get the gist that Hope eventually has to choose between the two guys. I liked Hope from the beginning. She's very selfless when it comes to helping her parents out and never complains about how her life is completely different from her peers. She's very set on her comfortable life, so when she starts getting these feelings for Joey, instead of confronting them she just pushes it aside. Eventually, things start to fester and she ends up really hurting Travis in the end. Hello…calling out a different guys name in your dreams while you're sleeping next to your boyfriend is pretty bad. While she never actually cheats on the guy, closing herself off to him for a whole year while she fantasizes about another is just as terrible.

But then I totally couldn't hate Hope for having feelings for another man. Sometimes the heart just knows what the heart wants. While Travis gave her a feeling of contentment, Joey sparked something in Hope that she'd never felt before. It could have been the excitement of a new and sexy guy, but Joey helped put a spring into Hope's step. Even her own parents noticed how positive Joey's presence was in her life. But of course not everything can be perfect because something in Joey's past has the potential of tearing them apart. And this is when I got irritated with Hope again. Joey tries to confess his dark secrets but Hope insists that the past is the past and that they should only look forward. We'll….when the past is brought to her attention she totally freaks out, which I totally didn't understand because she's the one that kept putting it in the back burner. The whole conflict seemed really foolish and it all could have been resolved with a little communication.

I was a little iffy about Joey at first because he's basically described as a Jersey Shore type of Guido. Now as much as I liked watching that train wreck of a show, I really am not attracted to those kind of guys. So when Ashley Wilcox first introduces Joey I was a little disappointed because images of Pauly D and Mike "The Situation" just kept popping up in my head. But when Joey looses his douchbaggy-ness, he actually started to grow on me. Contrary to Hope's first impression, Joey is a very sweet guy and loves to treat his lady to some scrumptious Italian cuisine. He's got a sketchy past and struggled to stay clean and sober. But the guy was determined to live a clean life and one that included Hope. Eventually in his quest to win Hope's heart, he ended up getting a little piece of mine as well.

The main reason that I gave this a 3 star instead of 4 was because of Hope. If the girl has just talked and worked out her feelings, she could have saved a few people some heartache. Overall thug, SUMMER RUSH is still a very enjoyable read. It was quick, fun, romantic, and sexy. Definitely the kind of book you want to take with you to the beach and read while you are relaxing and soaking up the sun. There will actually be a book two which will focus on Travis, so I'm pretty excited to find out what happens to Travis after Hope.

Summer Rush by Ashley Wilcox is one of those sweet love stories that will make you smile and feel warm and cozy inside. While being the first in a series, surprisingly it did not end in a cliffhanger. This is quite refreshing as most series do just that. Instead, we get a happy ever after that will have you smiling upward at imaginary rainbows and unicorns.

Hope is a young on-line college student who works to help support her family. Her life is not one of privilege nor wealth, but one of modest means. She is a sweet character that expects nothing out of life except what you work for. When she's not working, she is co-caretaker alongside her father for her quadriplegic mother. The details of Hope's mother's disability are heartbreaking and very close to home, as I lost a grandparent to the same fate. Although Hope doesn't have the perfect life, the love within her family is very strong, easing any pain of the family financial burdens. Her escape from the harsh realities in her life are found in surfing, which she does each morning at 6:30 a.m. before her father leaves for work and leaves her mother's care to Hope. She has one friend in Trent, her boyfriend. Hope loves Trent and sees a future with him until one day while waiting tables at Trent's mother's restaurant. Then and there she meets the customer who is like nails on a chalkboard to her skin....but he's also the one infiltrating her dreams every night.

Trent is perfect boyfriend and future husband material...on paper. He isn't GQ handsome, nor is he exciting and daring. In fact, I find Trent quite boring...as does Hope. But he is successful in his line of work, a sweet country boy, and he is good to Hope, which is all that matters. When something someone comes along and threatens his future with Hope, Trent finds himself in a losing game. Sweet and easy-going Trent isn't all that he seems. He wants Hope and wants her badly. Just what lengths will he go to in order to gain Hope's love and have her back in his life?

Joey is the narcissistic, egotistical, rich boy from the right side of the tracks. He is the cocky, arrogant, GQ handsome Italian stallion, and he makes Hope feel things she has never felt with Trent. He is nothing more than a summer visitor in the small East coast town in North Carolina, and he isn't a future for Hope. But something happens from the first summer when Joey meets Hope that changes him from that cocky bad boy into a sweet and loving young man whom Hope is drawn to. But his past may threaten any future he has with Hope before it ever gets started. While I enjoyed disliking Joey when first introduced, I loved loving Joey after seeing the change in him over a year's time.

While I can't say I loved Summer Rush, I can say that I liked it very much and found it to be a very enjoyable read that I will recommend to those who love a happy ever after. The only thing keeping me from love loving the story was my difficulty in picturing some of the scenes in my imagination. I would liked to have seen a higher degree of imagery in the writing. However, the story is well written, the prose is relaxes and present day, and Ashley Wilcox has told a beautiful and sweet story to me through Hope's eyes. I am always a sucker for a happy ever after, and I was worried toward the end of the book that the happy ever after I wanted for Hope wasn't going to come, but I was pleasantly surprised. I'm curious to see where Ashley Wilcox will take this series...just curious enough to want to read the second installment in the Because of Hope series. I can easily recommend this book as a book to cuddle and read in front of a cozy fire while wrapped in a blanket on a chilly evening.

Thank you to the author for providing me with an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Hope Taylor is your typical down South, small town girl. She helps take care of her disabled mother; who due to a drunk driver has been paralyzed from the neck down, while her father is at work. She loves to surf; it is the one aspect of her life that is just for her. She is a waitress at one of the local restaurants, is taking online college courses, and has a very sweet and hardworking boyfriend, Trent. She shouldn’t want anyone else. That is, until Joey Puccino and his rude and obnoxious friends walk into the restaurant one afternoon. She just can’t stop thinking about him.

Joey Puccino drives Hope insane when he comes into the restaurant. He is arrogant and constantly flirting with her. There is something about him though, something that makes Hope think about him constantly. Her thoughts of him are making her question her feelings for Trent. When the summer is over, Joey is still on her mind.
A year passes before Hope sees Joey again. Something has changed with him, he isn’t the same anymore. He seems more mature and isn’t the obnoxious ass he was the summer before. The attraction between them is still there, but will Hope finally act on it and break things off with Trent to explore what could be? Or, will Hope stay with Trent and try to forget about Joey?

"I couldn't fathom being with anyone other than Trent- he's the perfect boyfriend, and would make the perfect husband, and someday the perfect father to my children. I can see it. I just can't feel it."

“Although I know I shouldn’t want him, I do. I crave him and want just one taste to see what he’s like, if he’s worth the rush I get from him. Joey’s my drug in the worst possible way.”

Hope is torn. She has dreamed of Joey since the previous summer even though they never went out, there is a connection there that she just can’t deny. She knows that she isn’t happy with Trent anymore, and it’s not fair to him when she has Joey on her mind all the time. When she sees Joey again coming in for dinner with his family, that intense attraction is still there. Spending time with Joey and letting him into parts of her life that she has never let anyone before, she knows that she is falling hard for him.

Joey did a complete 180 personality wise. He wasn’t that bad boy anymore. It was almost like the new Joey was the real Joey. Something happened to change him, something he hasn’t really talked about, but Hope tells him everyone makes mistakes at some point in their lives. He tells Hope that she was his inspiration to change, that like her, the moment he first saw her, he knew there was something there. When Hope discovers what that mistake was, can she move past it and allow Joey into her life or will she be with Trent, the safe bet?

I really liked Summer Rush. I think at one point we have all felt what Hope felt, wondering if the person she shouldn’t want to be with could be the perfect one for her. Everyone has made mistakes in their lives, some pretty major ones. What counts is what you do to fix that mistake and take steps not to continue making those mistakes in the future. When it is a person that is making you want to change, sometimes that is the best motivation in the world, especially when that person is someone you love. Summer Rush is a book about second chances and following your heart. I hope that there will be more from this series in the future.

Summer Rush is such a sweet story about our heart determining who we love, not our minds. I really enjoyed this story. While there was a little angst involved, I felt that it was an overall refreshing 4 star story.

“My father named me Hope, believing that I was his only hope to get him through this tragedy, believing that I was his only light at the end of the tunnel.”

Hope Taylor lives a very predictable life. Every day is pretty much the same as the last. She works, takes classes online, and helps take care of her mother who is paralyzed from a tragic car accident that occurred while she was pregnant with Hope. The only other focus in her life is her boyfriend Trent. Trent is the perfect guy. He loves her and her family deeply; accepting the challenges of helping to take care of Hope's mother. Life seems to be going as planned for Hope.

“For so long my life has been simple, plain, and predictable. Every day come and goes just as the last one did. For years this has been my life. Then, one day, this insanely gorgeous egotistical guy comes into the restaurant, flashes me his million dollar charm and just like that my plain and predictable world becomes a roller coaster of crazy, shame, and anything but predictable.”

One summer day while at work, Hope meets Joey. Joey is completely full of himself. While completely disgusted by Joey, Hope can't deny this instant attraction that she feels for Joey. Unfortunately, Joey can see right through her and uses this to make things even harder for Hope. She can't stop thinking about him, even though she tries to force herself to focus on Trent.

“Trent has every quality that you dream your future husband will have – good looks, big heart, sensitive, hardworking, and an overall great guy.”

As the summer comes to an end, Hope tries to forget Joey and focus on Trent. But Joey has left a lasting mark on her. As the next summer rolls around, Joey returns along with all of her feelings for him. And this time, he is different than before. Hope feels so much guilt for having feelings for someone other than her perfect boyfriend. But there are things about Joey that Hope doesn't know about. Things that could change the way she feels for him.

“My heart aches seeing the pain my distance is causing him. He has done nothing but love me, cherish the ground I walk on, but it's still not enough. My heart still isn't whole...”

I felt so sorry for Trent. He was undoubtedly madly in love with Hope. As much as I felt bad for Trent, I felt that Hope handled the situation as best she could; being sensitive to Trent's feelings. I was rooting for Trent a majority of the story. But, somewhere down the line, I fell in love in Joey as well and really couldn't decide which guy I wanted Hope to choose.

“It's not like our feelings or attraction for each other ran dry. It's all there and in full effect. It's the past that's haunting the present and any chance of a future.”

I truly enjoyed every part of Summer Rush. Hope was forced to choose whether to follow her heart or her mind. Choosing the right one led her to happiness. I noticed at the end that Trent's story is in the works and I am so excited by this. I really look forward to continuing on this journey with Hope, Trent, and Joey. I very much recommend this book as a lovely short read.

Review from http://www.whirlwindbooksandreviews.com/

I am a huge fan of Ashley Wilcox's books and I also happen to think she is a complete sweetheart so when I found out about this book I got very excited, and almost did a little wee when I was asked to take part in the tour as I couldn't wait to read and fall in love with yet another story from her.

Southern Girl Hope Taylor looks after her mother full time, after a terrible accident left her paralyzed from the neck down, although most of her time is spent making sure her family is okay she does ave one hobby something that helps her to relax and to keep a sense of normality in the craziness; Surfing.

Hope's lift us relativity normal; she has a job working at a local restaurant she is enrolled in collage and taking night time classes plus she also has a great and caring boyfriend; Trent. But things change when a new person walks into her life, someone who she cannot deny her attraction too, Joey Puccino. Walking into her work with his friends, she is shocked at his elude behavior and crass way with words but sometimes it doesn't matter how arrogant someone is you just cannot get them out of your head.

"I couldn't fathom being with anyone other than Trent- he's the perfect boyfriend, and would make the perfect husband, and someday the perfect father to my children. I can see it. I just can't feel it."

Driving Hope insane is just something Joey seems to do best, arrogant and cocky and a total flirt he cannot seem to win Hope's attention especially when she informs him she has a boyfriend. Leaving the restaurant it isn't for another year that Hope and Joey should meet but will time be more successful or will he be left to go on his own way yet again?

“He's nothing I've ever been attracted to, but everything I'm currently drawn to.”

Hope yet again see's Joey, but this time it is one year later and there seems to be a huge change within him and once again Hope is left with an attraction for him, now with her relationship going down hill and an interest in a seemingly changed devastatingly handsome man she has no idea what to do, explore these new feeling or stay in her current relationship which is safe and familiar.

“Although I know I shouldn’t want him, I do. I crave him and want just one taste to see what he’s like, if he’s worth the rush I get from him. Joey’s my drug in the worst possible way.”

Overall I really enjoyed this book and hope there is more to come in this series as in some ways I felt as though the ending needed more or maybe I just didnt want it to end.

4/5 overall.

The heart wants what the heart wants.

Hope surfs in the morning, helps care for her mother during the day while attending online classes, and then works at night to help her family out financially. Besides having a doting boyfriend that she loves, she practically has no social life. But life is good and it is how things are supposed to be. But when a cocky, Italian comes waltzing into her life one day, something inside of her changes. With all these feelings for Joey twirling around in her heart she soon feels guilty when she is with Trent. Can she overcome these new feelings for Joey and be a better girlfriend to Trent or will she end up falling for Joey in the end?

SUMMER RUSH is a very quick read. Before I knew I was done. But I was thoroughly entertained throughout the whole book thanks to the cute characters. Although the storyline was fairly predictable I loved how all it took was the smile of one guy for Hope to realize that she is not at all content with the way her life is going. The author did a great job giving the readers something real and believable.

Let me tell you, I loved Joey and thought Trent was a donkey’s rear. I didn’t have that warm fuzzy feeling about him in the beginning and it proved true when he showed his true colors later on. But again I say…loved Joey. Yeah he was also a donkey’s rear in the beginning but I just knew that wasn’t the real him. And I was so happy with who he really was.

Got some free time on your hands? Want a cute, romantic read? Well look no further…SUMMER RUSH is the perfect book for you. And from what I hear there is a sequel that is supposed to take place. I so will be reading that one. I am eager to see what develops further with Hope and Joey.

I received a complimentary copy of this book as a part of a book tour in exchange for a fair and honest review. I rated it 3.5 out of 5 Stars:

Knowing what you want out of life is difficult at any age but it's especially hard when your heart wants something different than what you have planned. With likable characters, emotional angst and two men vying for a young woman's heart, Summer Rush, the first book in the Because of Hope series, grabbed my attention and didn't let go.

Hope Taylor has a loving family, a boyfriend she loves and a waitress's job that helps pay the bills. Even though her life is predictable, she considers herself lucky to know what she wants. All of that changes when a chance meeting at work brings Joey Puccino into her life. Now she can't get the summer "bad boy" out of her mind.

Torn between Trent, the "perfect" boyfriend, and her attraction to Joey, the arrogant "bad boy", Hope spends the next several months confused about what she wants. Ms. Wilcox does an okay job developing Hope's character; she's torn between what her heart wants and all she's had planned. Stuck between two men, Hope knows life with Trent will be safe, and possibly boring, while taking a chance on Joey could risk more than just her heart. One thing I would have liked to have seen more of was Hope's emotional development with both young men; both relationships were a touch superficial.

Will Hope stick with the safe choice or will she give Joey a chance to prove that he's more than just a bad boy? You'll have to read Summer Rush to find out, I enjoyed it and I think you will too. I look forward to reading what happens next.

I had the extraordinary pleasure of reading this book right when it became available to the public and stayed up way past my bedtime in order to do so. Ashley Wilcox has the ability to hit your heart and make her way into your soul so quickly that it takes your breath away. The name Hope is a precious one to me and by the end of the book it meant so much more. I sincerely look forward to reading anything this woman writes in the future because her words have captured the very reason as to why I love to read.

Hope is a fun girl with a simple and predictable life. Her home situation is ideal even though it may not be normal, her job brings in the money she needs to live and her boyfriend is a wonderful man who takes care of his angel every step of the way. One day a stranger named Joey walks into her diner. A rough talking, slick bad boy from parts unknown starts to work his way under her skin in ways she has never felt before. So hope has to make a choice, safe and simple or risky and life changing. Is it meant to be like the ever constant sand on a beach. Or is it a summer rush, like the wave crashing into shore?

This book was simple, elegant and a fun read. I don’t have enough words to describe it without sounding pretentious. So there you have it. Read the book. Love the Ashley. And Such <3

Summer Rush was a cute, sweet, fun read. It's a story about how much your life can change in one summer, and how what you thought you always wanted may not be what you need. 3 stars

Hope is a sweet girl that sacrifices her social life taking care of her mother and studying for nursing school. She has the perfect, attentive boyfriend Trent, and loves to surf in the morning when is the only time she has any free time. Then she meets Joey Puccino and everything changes for her. Joey is cocky, rude, and extremely hot and Hope is instantly attracted to him. Joey is nothing like she wants or needs, so why is it she can't stop thinking about him? Secrets are revealed, some to close to home and Hope has a big decision to make......does she follow her heart or does she chose to live her life the way she thinks it was meant to be?

Like I mentioned, this is cute read. There were a few issues for me like the time jumping around too fast(felt rushed), not enough description, and I was confused about the ending. The ending was like a cliffhanger, but wasn't! I just felt like Hope and Joey's story is not complete, and I frantically searched Ashley's author page and it looks like the next book is Trent's story. Even with these issues, I think the story is still enjoyable.

Cute...easy read. its about Hope who lives at home with her mom and scavenger mom is paralyzed from an accident they were involved in when she was pregnant with hope where a drunk driver hit them.

hope finds peace when she surfs every morning. her life changes when Joey comes into the restaurant that she's a waitress at. the first year they meet he is cocky and she has a boyfriend. then the 2nd year he comes back for the summer and has changed.

you can see what happened to change Joey a mile away. he got a dwi the first summer and that's why he's a changed man. he doesn't telephone about it and he ex boyfriend is the one to break the news to her about the accident in hopes that he would win her back.
doesn't happen. they admit they love each other and its forever.

I was lucky enough to get an ARC of this book.

This was a book that couldn't be put down. It was a one evening read for me! The characters were well written and I found easy to fall in love with them all! The authhor dealt with a topic that is important in society at this time: drunk driving. She dealt with it well and in a way that was non-accusatory.
While dealing with that topic, she was able to get to the heart of love at first sight. That feeling where they make you feel so alive. Angry, joyful, and confused all at the same time.
This book made me laugh and cry....all in a VERY good way!

I really loved reading this book. I could not put it down and actually read it in a day. My emotions were all over the chart. Hope has a special relationship with her parents. She thinks she has the perfect guy in her life with Trent. Then one day she meets a gorgeous guy, Joey and feels things she never has felt before. She has to make a decision.....go back to Trent who is a stable choice or Joey who has made mistakes in his past, but the one she has fallen in love with. Love the beach, surfing, working at the restaurant, romance and the ending. It was what I call, "A feel good book".

I really liked this book - I would classify it as a young adult, cute and short romance book I guess. It about a college student who has a great boyfriend but when she "meets" another guy things change for her. I felt like the middle and end were really rushed and there was not enough resolution and closure at the end. I see there is another book but it does not revolve around Hope - which I would have liked to see.

Loved it! All of the characters were so real and Hope went through a real life process by second guessing or questioning her first real relationship. Everyone goes through that situation in their lives and I love how Hope took that leap to figure out her heart. Trent was a sweetie, but I was glad Joey was introduced into her life. He is more adventurous versus Trent who was safe and comfortable. Love love loved it!

Decent read

Hope is her parents miracle child! She was born a premie baby and her moms paralyzed due to getting hit by a drunk driver. Hope thinks she's in love with Trent.

Joey is your all Italian meat head who thinks the world revolves around him...until he meets the beautiful waitress at the diner.

I liked the book don't get me wrong. I just felt like it was over before it started. I felt like there needed to be more from Trent or Joey.

Super cute story. Hope is an amazing girl. The love of her parents has taught her a lot about loving with her whole heart! I was broken for Trent until he pulled his stunt! Now I am team Joey all the way. I hate to say that the drama of this book was predictable, but enjoyable none the less. I can't wait for more of these characters!!

I really enjoyed this book....I must admit, though, at the end when she seems to "judge" Joey, I found her annoying...but the storyline and the characters were very believable. Of course, I felt badly for Trent:( poor guy got his heart broke twice in this book! Would like to get to know more about where the story goes:)

I am trying to figure out how to word this without it being a spoiler, but I love that this book isn't all about sex and that its not another book about a virgin who jumps into bed with someone that she has only known for a week.

Cute book. Felt bad for Trent. I hope he gets his happily ever after.

In love with Hope and Joey and I cannot wait to read more. This book is a must read. Ashley Wilcox rocked it with this one.
