After years of lies, loneliness, and betrayal, she's finally left her wealthy husband in London--and moved into her own house in the run-down resort town of Sea Gate, New Jersey, the place of her childhood dreams, and now, her grown-up hopes.
But while patching together her falling-apart house and fallen-apart life, Alex meets someone who throws a wrench into her plans for solitary bliss: John Gallagher, a local resident with his own haunting past and painful secrets. Alex is determined to do what it takes to make it on her own, even working as a waitress at the Starlight Diner. This is a good, basic romance to read. I especially like the references to the coastal surroundings. The author's description of the East Coast makes me consider packing up and moving there myself. Good escape and the book costs way less than a plane ticket!
The love story of Alexandra and John. Alex is on the run from a husband who beat and rape her she run to Sea Girt, NJ. Sea Girt is a small shore town which is dyeing John has lost his family and is trying to save it he met Alex. Great summer read.
Really enjoy this authors books. This one was a stretch in my opinion -- so you run away from your husband, taking all your jewelry and buy a house (apparently paying all cash) and leave your self no money for a new roof, etc. And you trust everyone you meet very quickly. Little far fetched in my opinion .. Still a good read
With many authors, especially in the romance genre, secondary characters rarely have much pizzazz. This story is different: tightly woven, fast-paced, and filled with delightful people trying to resolve family problems.
This book is a story of courage, pride, perseverance and the real meaning of life and love 💘 I highly recommend this book for anyone that is feeling down! It will reignite your Spirit!
I did very much enjoy this book. Took you to the shores of Jersey and I grew up there so it was a nice remembrance. The characters were very likeable and storyline a good one. Not all romance, but a lot more!
Barbara Bretton writes wonderful books with terrific characters---ordinary people in extraordinary circumstances. Her characters are very believable and down-to-earth, and you can't help but like them and cheer for them.
Sleeping Alone is one of my "comfort reads"---a book I read when I need cheering up. The story has never failed me: it's always great, and it always makes me feel better.
I'm not much into cheesy romantic novels, and I feared this one might be. Considering there was only one sex scene, not too bad for feared romance. This book, while being a tad predictable was a sweet, fast summer read. Somewhat of a no brainer read, but I do enjoy those in the summer.
