ladden with written-ese, on-the-nose writing full of over-staging/stage-direction; dull, boring--kept nodding off while trying to read; could be used as some kind of torture device in place of waterboring perhaps. most of the time i was reading the first (2%) i was wondering why the hell i was still reading. So that is why i'm not reading any further.

I personally tried to go outside of my regular genre, and I got half way through this read and I just couldn't get into it. I am sure it's a great read! Just not for me. I felt like the story dragged on a bit and I couldn't keep my mind focused.

Christian book. Somewhat manipulated and fairly well anticipated plot. A comfort read however and no factors which are scarey or non-normal.

I spotted #7 in the Annie's Attic series Rag Doll In The Attic at a library sale and picked it up because it had a rag doll on the cover. Also picked up Boxed in and The Map In The Attic when I saw that they were part of the same series, although written by different authors. Unfortunately, I believe that Rag Doll In The Attic was the weakest of the three stories with all the thunder storms and the theme of a child's death running through the entire book, making it the least cozy to read. On the plus side, Annie learns some things she didn't know about her late mother.

But this is an important book in the series because Annie is coming to a turning point in her life. She is going to be returning to Texas for her grandchildren's birthday party and her daughter is pressuring her to move back to Texas permanently. Annie debates with herself over the choice she will soon have to make between her family and memories in Texas and her grandmother's Victorian house and all of her new friends and activities in Maine.

On pages 91, 177, 178, and 179, the author repeatedly confuses microfiche (small sheets of film) with microfilm (film on rolls) changing them from "sheets" into "rolls" and back again. I would have expected an author to know the difference or an editor to catch the flip flop. Oddly, the same mistake appears on page 31 in The Map In The Attic which is by a different author.

4/5⭐️

I have to applaud this author… since all of these books are written by a different author I find some of the characters or esthetic just too drastically different from prior books. But wow, this author nailed getting the characters, the town, and everything in between perfect. Jan fields had the characters spot on, and she mentioned many previous people and occurrences from other books into her story. You can really tell she took time into reading and understanding this series and she utilized things that ALL the authors did before her, whereas for some books I felt the authors didn’t even read the books prior fully.

So with the authors attention to detail, I really enjoyed this book. This one was definitely not as thrilling or nail biting as some other ones (which I always like in book), but this was a great and realistic cozy mystery. Some other books in the story just seemed a bit far fetched to me. Annie was essentially in danger 24/7 in many of the other books, so I appreciated that this author took a different direction and focused more so on the characters and the towns history to make a beautiful story.

I adore this series. The fact that the central characters are women of different ages who are friends despite all of their differences really works for me. This story was a little different from the rest but it was probably my favorite by far. Annie is trying to adjust to a new life without her husband and she finally is getting on tract. Her grandmother knew exactly what she was doing when she left her the house full of attic treasures and mysteries.

Annie finding the Rag Doll in the Attic leads to her finding her Mother Journal. The Rag Doll belonged to her Mom's best friend from childhood Little Sister. Annie is delighted to learn more about her mother's childhood.

Jan Fields really did a great job with this mystery. The story was very well thought out and the different parts were woven together perfectly. The story starts with Annie finding an old rag doll in the attic and she can't figure out who could have been its owner. She was sure it wasn't her mother who was never a doll person. Annie's friend and neighbor, Alice, meets a man who is visiting Stony Point to learn about and photograph the lighthouse. He is writing a book about lighthouses and the legends that tend to surround them. Alice and Annie decide to help him learn more about the legend and in the process solve the mystery of the doll.

I enjoyed this entry in the Annie's Attic series written by different authors. Jan Fields wrote a good book with mystery and a little creepiness and excitement that for once didn't involve anyone stalking, threatening, or knocking Annie down to steal her quilt, map, or other doodad from her grandma's attic.

Annie is a widow who left Texas when her grandmother Betsy died in Stony Point, Maine and she inherited her house and all that was in it. She has been rummaging through the stuff her grandma had over the years, remembering her girlhood spending summers here, fixing up the house, and getting to know the women in a local stitching club. She does good deeds and has reunited with her pal from childhood Alice.

When the book begins, Annie is having a series of nightmares about 3 girls out on a dark and stormy Maine night creeping up a cliff road to the lighthouse to touch it. There is supposedly a curse on it and the lighthouse keeper hates kids. Night after night bits of what happened come to Annie in her dreams (she apparently heard about what happened when she was a kid visiting but forgot)and she is stunned to then find out it is all true when she finds the rag doll that belonged to the 11 year old who was out with her older sister and with Annie's own mother Judy going to the lighthouse, a girl who died that night of injuries sustained on their adventure in the rain.

Annie tries to unravel the mystery just as her friend Alice takes up with a photographer/writer who is in town to collect stories and photos for a book he is doing on lighthouses and their legends. The two mysteries (he heard of a young girl dying there on a stormy night) collide.

That's not all that collides. While Alice is being tempted to run off with the writer, Annie finally comes to a decision about whether she will return to Texas to live or stay at Stony Point.

Quick, easy read. I am not reading this series in order and am not having any problems following along. I would really like to go visit Stony Point; it sounds like my kind of town. The people are very interesting and down-to-earth. I also wouldn't mind helping Annie solve one of her mysteries! This story is a little darker than the others in that a child died quite a long time ago but the tragedy comes back to light when Annie finds a rag doll in her attic. There are a few twists and turns that I wasn't expecting that added to the overall story. Alice even finds a beau for a little while :)

Annie can sure find things in her Grandma's attic.
I like the rag doll and was glad she found who the owner was.
Too bad the little girl had died. I am glad her sister will be able to appreciate the doll.
I am glad Annie will find out some things about her mother. Jo was her dear friend.
Annie did not hear all the things about when her mom was growing up. But the friend, Jo, will be able to fill in some blank spots.
Good day reading.
Nice Book.

As the library of Stoney Point prepares a display for the children of the community, they request donations of items to be added to the display. Annie comes across a rag doll in the attic of Grey Gables to donate but the doll has a mystery attached to it! I thought the story was sweet and what Annie finds out about the doll and who it belongs to was touching.

A rag doll in her grandmother's attic and a dream send Annie searching for answers. Unfortunately the story does not have a happy ending. Annie decides to live in Maine and let her Texas house be used for visiting missionaries.

This is not the author I read, but the book seems to be the same one. It is part of the Annie's Attic series. It is another good mystery for Annie.
