Learn to use your multiple brains to do cool and amazing things in your life!
After getting into Neuro Linguistic Programming a few years ago I began to hear the concept of MBIT (Multiple brain integration techniques) and mBraining. This was the most recommended book by people in the NLP industry. Had to check it out!
MBIT revolves around the concept that our bodies having more than one brain - namely the brain along the heart and the gut. The discovery comes from the large amount of neurons each organ has but more importantly the benefits one can get from brain alignment.
This book isn't your typically self-help book but more a discovery of courage, compassion and creativity; namely your gut, heart and brain and the three working in tandem. It is blended with science based research along with practical based applications. It is an emerging field and I'm sure more literature will come out in the future. This book is a start and will explain the mBIT functions, competencies and how to align your brains and avoid neural integration blocks (i.e. your mind banking a check your body can't cash). Throughout it you will also get to try out some discovery exercises to understand the power behind the three brains and what can be accomplished with alignment.
If you're interested in learning something a little different and can relate to the various metaphor of gut checks, being heartless, not being able to stomach something then this is a book to pick up!
Three key takeaways from the book: 1. The heart contains 40,000 - 120,000 neurons and the gut contains over 500,000,000 neurons. The brain as we know contains approximately 100 billion neurons. 2. Our communication via thought and language is primarily metaphorical and embodied. Our language represents underlying neural and behavioural processing. This is the best way to communicate with the three brains. 3. Don't expect wisdom, courage or motivation after filling your stomach with food. Esoteric and spiritual traditions know this and it is why many cultures fast during or before important rituals or when attempting to connect with deep intuitive processes.
“mBraining” is a revolutionary book and a must read for anyone who is interested in effective decision-making and problem solving! It introduces us to the understanding that human beings are functioning with multiple brains—head, heart, and gut—and how this is supported in previous century medical history, ancient wisdom traditions and eastern spirituality, as well as modern cutting edge neurological and psychological research and theory. The authors lay out the history and research on this topic in a step-by-step method that is well-researched and comprehensive yet clear and understandable, as well as truly fascinating. Once you read this book, you will understand a more accurate model of the intelligence of our multiple brains and be able to apply the knowledge and exercises in this book to begin achieving a unified body-mind and well-being.
As a counselor and school psychologist, I spent years reflecting with people to assist them in getting in touch with their gut feelings and to use this gut intelligence in the decision-making process. The authors’ discussion of the two main functional intelligence or what they call “core competencies” of the gut brain is in essence right on target with my own findings with what people express as their inner needs experienced in their gut feelings. It is quite exciting to find that what has become clear in my own life’s work with hundreds of people also validates what is written in “mBraining” about the gut brain intelligence. I thank you both, Marvin Oka and Grant Soosalu, for your well-written and engaging book with such an important message of multiple brain intelligence.
It is clear from reading this book that these two authors have found and tested a technique to experience real healing—unification of the three brains—within their own beings and are passionate about sharing this benefit to all of human kind.
Really enjoyed this book, it picks up where NLP left off, taking the field of NLP forward. The scientific knowledge is finally catching up with deep insights from esoteric and spiritual traditions informing us for thousands of years about these three powerful intelligences of head, heart and gut. Using methodologies from NLP (Neuro Linguistic Programming), Cognitive Linguistics and Behavioral Modeling, and informed by the latest Neuroscientific discoveries, the newly emerging field of mBIT (multiple Brain Integration Techniques) has codified a powerful system for communicating with and integrating the wisdom and intelligence of your multiple brains.
Written as an engaging, easy to read and deeply intriguing introduction to the new field of multiple Brain Integration Techniques, this is a highly accessible guide to understanding the scientific basis of your gut intuitions, heart-felt emotions, and head-based creative powers. mBraining coaches readers in achieving greater success and happiness in a world of massive change.
As an NLP Trainer, this book has filled in the missing pieces into the key influencers to how we think and Marvin Oka's excellence in NLP took me on a brilliant journey littered with "aha's!"
This is an excellence resource for those who are life coaches, therapists, counselors and psychologists who are baffled by a client's behavior and cannot pinpoint a solution.
Chances are they are looking at just part of the person and not the whole person. Marvin and Grant's book provides exceptional cutting-edge insights into human behaviour utilising the latest research into the gut brain, heart brain and of course the head-brain.
I could not put this book down and have re read it many times. It offers a beautiful weaving together of neuroscience and ancient wisdom. Carefully crafted, easy to follow, written for people to understand who may not have a background in neuroscience of academia, it explores the multiple brains and offers insight into the amazing field of work from which this book emerged.
If you are curious about what it means to fully know yourself, and you want to ensure the work you follow is evidence based, then this is a must read.
Fascinating! Explores the idea that we have neuron centers in our heart and gut that inform many of our decisions, BUT it matters in what order we call upon these brain-centers (heart first - compassion and desire, then brain - cognitive rationalization and creativity, then gut - courage). A little too technical and dry at points, but overall very enlightening.
So poorly edited that I couldn't finish it. Whoever edited this book simply doesn't understand how commas work.
I don't expect perfection, but I had to stop and re-read so many sentences that it just wasn't worth it.
The authors also didn't seem to have any logic around which scientific concepts they explained and which ones they didn't -- a poor choice for a book clearly aimed at a lay audience.
Using your multiple brains to do cool stuff by Grant Soosalu and Marvin Oka saved my life imho post-diagnosis bipolar.
I'm rewriting my memoir published in 2015 entitled WTF! Life is not always what it seems as it is factually incorrect - and that's the essence of bipolar I believe - a misperception of our reality to be rebalanced.
Having trained with both Grant and Marvin, I am now mapping a path to share my life experiences and story and whatever wisdom I may have to de-stigmatise bipolar and mental illness more broadly based on my persona lived experience.
I thought that the material was interesting, and definitely insightful if you’re not too familiar with brain training. Although they attempt to keep the info more casual, I still found it to be more formal and academic than I’d like. Definitely recommend it to those who are new to the concept of neuroplasticity, or brain training in general
