Thoughts:
Elizabeth Cady Stanton is the biography of Elizabeth Cady Stanton, a famous women’s rights activist. The book focuses on her childhood, with only a few pages dedicated to her life as an adult.
Elizabeth Cady Stanton is a good book for a competent early reader. The text is black words on a white background; there are few lines on the majority of the pages. The illustrations are highly supportive of the text. There are a few vocabulary words that may prove tricky but the majority of the words are common vocabulary words.
This would really get the attention of students who love to learn about history and it could have an impact on young girls. Reading about Elizabeth Stanton could still be a role model for girls to stand up for what they believe in. I would use this book to teach a fifth grade history lesson. We would talk about the civil rights movement and different leaders including Stanton and how she promoted women the right to vote and have equal rights.
