Dark Season #9-15

Dark Season: The Complete Second Series

Rate this book
For the first time, the entire second series of Dark Season books is available in one volume. Also includes 20th Century Vampire (A Dark Season Prequel). Total word count is around 180,000 words, approximately 700 to 800 pages of a printed book.

Sophie Hart's relationship with Patrick, the last vampire, continues to take a series of dark twists and turns. But this time, there's the life of a child at stake. A mysterious stranger named Nimrod offers to help Sophie, but can he be trusted? Meanwhile, an ancient prophecy says that Patrick will eventually kill Sophie. Determined to fight that prophecy, Patrick risks unleashing dark forces from a war that end centuries ago.

Along the way, there are giant spiders, genetically-engineered killers, desperate ghosts and former vampires, plus a sequel to The Civil Dead from the first series in which the Tenderlings show their true powers.

From modern-day Dedston to the trenches of the First World War, and from an ancient ballroom filled with spiders to the bottom of a haunted well, this volume collects together the 8 books from Dark Season's second series, plus the prequel volume 20th Century Vampire.

This volume contains all 8 books in the second series, plus the prequel:

Book 0: 20th Century Vampire (A Dark Season Prequel)
Book 1: Nimrod
Book 2: Shy People
Book 3: The Ghost of the Girl in the Well
Book 4: Tenderling
Book 5: Shelley
Book 6: Spider, Spider
Book 7: Fangs Out
Book 8: The Death of Sophie Hart

Please note: This book contains violence, swearing and sexual scenes. Also, the end of the whole book finishes on something of a cliffhanger, which will be resolved when the next Dark Season book comes out in November 2012.

Excellent trilogy

Best written Amy Cross book I’ve read. You care about the characters and Patrick is the most unusual vampire to figure out.

Felt like someone took 5-6 different people's journals, pulled some pages out and stuck them all together to form one journal. The story is great, it bouncing around got frustrating.

Dark Season: The Complete Second Series by Amy Cross

Once again I will stress the importance of reading this complete series, starting with Season One. I found this series to be too wordy and drawn out. In this set the author tried to tie parts back to happenings in the previous series and almost succeeded. The problem was that she waited so long that the reader was left bewildered. Patrick did not appear in this series until near the end, and then briefly. Instead we venture out with many different characters, making one wonder why they are included at all. It seems they aren't relevant to the series. Perhaps the final series will actually tie it all together. It was an ordeal getting through this series. I'm not impressed by the story thus far. There is nothing to help a reader identify with the main characters.

A fabulous second series in the Dark Season saga. This fantasy is brought into reality by the author's easy to read writing style (not withstanding the typos). I love the many first person narratives and the swing of time, which cleverly reveal a great plot.

We learn more about the characters and their motives and of course the prophecy in this second batch.

I don't give spoilers, but will say that if you like plenty of twists and turns and a splash of originality, together with intriguing characters, this horror is for you.

Recommended.

The Story Continued...

As with the first book, the journey of the characters continues. This book is written in the same intriguing way the first collection was written. Mystery authors of introductions to each section. Although a portion of the story is resolved, a complete resolution remains a mystery so I shall trudge on with anticipation of the final wrap up by reading the third series set.

Amy Cross certainly lives up to the expectations I had for her. In my mind, she is a master of plot, and this book (along with the whole previous series) is clear evidence of that in my mind.
