Wel ik moet zeggen dat dit niet is wat ik verwachtte. Ik had eigenlijk gehoopt dat dit een leuk boekje zou zijn over betaalbare en leuke vintage winkeltjes. Helaas waren veel van deze winkeltjes niet wat ik leuk vond, en het zag er nou niet uit als betaalbaar, in ieder geval, niet betaalbaar voor mij. Maar de foto's waren zeer mooi.

Ik zag dit boek in de bieb, en heb deze en haar zusje (Parijs in Stijl) meegenomen. Ik hou wel van winkels die net iets anders zijn, en vintage is ook leuk. Ik heb ook nog steeds plannen om naar beide steden een keer te gaan, maar ik zal deze guides niet gebruiken. Ik ga wel gewoon in de gewone winkels shoppen, die wel voor mijn budget zijn. En die grote winkels zijn net zo leuk. En dat was ook een frustratie puntje, het je moet niet naar de grote winkels gaan-mantra die steeds en steeds weer werd benoemd. Laat mensen lekker zelf kiezen of ze jou fancy winkeltjes willen checken of niet.

Want dat is wel het gevoel dat ik had, dat al die winkeltjes bedoeld zijn voor mensen als Kate Moss (ze wordt best vaak genoemd, net zoals een stel andere beroemdheden in de mix worden gegooid). Misschien zijn er ook leuke betaalbare vintage winkeltjes genoemd in het boek, maar ik heb ze niet echt gezien. Heel erg jammer, ik had eigenlijk wel iets verwacht als prijzen systeem, iets voor de mensen die wel dure vintage kunnen kopen, en iets voor de mensen die leuke, betaalbare vintage willen vinden.

Ik heb de interviews op een gegeven moment ook overgeslagen, het was gewoon meer van hetzelfde. De eerste was leuk, maar daarna voelde het gewoon alsof steeds hetzelfde bandje in een casetteplayer werd afgespeeld.

De foto's waren echt prachtig en ik heb met veel plezier ze bekeken. Vooral de verschillende mode winkels waren mooi, ik had minder interesse in het voedsel, aangezien het toch vaak voedsel is wat ik niet wil eten.

Zou ik dit boek aanraden? Niet echt, het is een leuk boek voor de foto's, maar buiten dat? Niet echt.

I loved this book. It was a second book. I'm always reading two books at a time. A great guide for anyone who plans to visit London. I have been there many, many times but still found some new places if and when I can get back there. It did make me want to go again. Short chapters about each district and what they offered, how to get there, where to eat and drink. Lots of good tips on how to find the best markets and parks...even if you never go, after you get done reading this lovely book you might just think you had been there.

I can't believe I walked past so many shops without ever noticing them!
Of course you could fill a whole library with books about trendy and cool shops in London - this is just a glimpse. And if you are looking for more shops of a particular area you will quickly be disappointed, 5 pages aren't enough.
But all in all it's an entertaining, well written book with plenty of pictures.
I sure have picked so new places to explore for when I return to London :)

Awesome. Lovely pictures, fantastic food/drink/and sight seeing recommendations. Love the feel and size of the small hardcover book - would be a great take along and tour guide along with a stash place for paper souvenirs & pictures.
