Peter Clover is an international, best selling children’s author with over 70 titles in print across UK, USA, Germany, France and the Commonwealth. Peter originally hails from Islington, North London with a colourful career in advertising as a storyboard artist. His overwhelming passion for writing eventually inspired him to pen a rhyming picture book, which led to his success across the genre of children’s literature from early reader to M/G, published by all mainstream publishing houses including Puffin, Hodder, Macmillan, Scholastic, Transworld, Oxford University Press, A&C Black and Barrington Stoke.

Peter met his husband back in the Jurassic Age, left London, and bought a Georgian hotel which they ran together for fifteen years, with Peter as whirling resident chef, before moving lock stock and typewriter to Spain where they built a house, got married, and plan to live happily ever after!

Now a permanent fixture in Mallorca, Peter writes a regular ‘lifestyle’ column for an English newspaper along with the occasional article for glossy travel magazines.

As an exhibited artist, Peter still paints on occasion, yet writing remains his principle passion. RETURN TO LYNDON GATE is his first adult novel - an idea, he says, which has been haunting him for over 20 years. Currently working on his Mallorcan Memoirs, LGBTQ children’s novels and a children’s cook book.

What you have to remember when reading these books as an adult is they were originally written to get a MUCH younger audience into reading. Particularly those with an interest in animals, especially horses and ponies. The stories are engaging and sweet, but aren’t too heavy. Perfect for the 6-11 age range. As a child I was lucky enough to have my own Shetland pony so reading about this girl around my age going on adventures with her pony was actually something I could relate to. Sheltie will always have a special place in my heart!

This was one of my favourite series as a kid. Sheltie is to put it simply; a comical little horse who doesn't like to behave. Perfect for fans of black beauty or for the horse girlies without a doubt.

Rereading this series as an adult, the writing definitely needed some work, however it was still a huge part of my childhood were these books.

This is the first book in the series about the Shetland pony Sheltie and Emma, the girl who loves him. Here we are treated to the beginning of this wonderful friendship. The book is written for elementary aged children, but is a treat for all ages. The book has some black and white illustrations that go nicely with the story.

Sheltie and Emma bond immediately upon meeting, which happens when Emma's family move into their new cottage in the country. Soon Emma is riding him like a pro, and the begin their adventures. In this first installment, that includes solving the mystery of the stolen cabbages.

Another horse series for my horse crazy little girl! My daughter was so sad when she learned that we had read all the Big Apple Barn series and then the librarian introduced us to Sheltie! We are now in love with Sheltie and all his antics. The book is simple enough that my first grader could probably read the book herself and do pretty well with it but she still likes me to read to her - I love reading to her too and I know this will help her develop her fluency as well as foster a love of reading! I have the second book in the series requested from the library and am planning to surprise her with another book in the series for Valentines Day!!!
