You were transformed to transform your world! For too long, Christianity has been defined by a false concept of church. As a result, believers have built walls around their lives, keeping culture at a distance. As Christians have tried to keep culture out of the church, unfortunately, the church has kept itself out of the culture. This was never Jesus’ design for the your life! Before church was established as a place that people “came to,” Jesus instituted it as an army that brought transformation to society, starting with salvation and continuing with seven spheres of influence: Church, family, education, government, media, arts, and commerce. Six revolutionary voices in the modern church deliver Invading Babylon. This essential guide will equip you to: It’s your time to arise and be a light in a dark world.
The other day, when I was at lunch with some friends, the topic came around to what is going on in the world today. One friend said that her husband watches the news, shoulders slumped and they both get so depressed. She said she tells him to turn off the television, put on worship music and pray that Jesus comes back soon. Now, while I enjoy soaking in some good worship music, I do not believe Jesus meant for us to turn off the world, hide in our homes wait for Him to come "rescue us". In fact, He tells us in Matthew 6:9-13 to pray that His Kingdom come and in Matthew 28:18-20 to go and make disciples of all the nations. This book helps me to process what is going on in the world and gives me insight in how to pray for change. Kingdom believers need to invade and occupy culture. Kingdom believers need to set the standard, the standard of God's kingdom. This is an excellent book, written by those with a passion to see God's Kingdom come. If you are tired of the "hole up and hide" mentality of the Church, if you want to see a difference, if you want to MAKE a difference, this book is for you.
Not everyone wants to live in a world dominated by the beliefs and practices of this outlier Christian organization. Last time I checked, we live in a country--if not world--founded on democratic freedoms as outlined in our Bill of Rights. Altruistic as dominionism may seem on its surface, its underlying motivation to control doesn't essentially differ from other less innocuous world domination schemes. No thank you.
I love a book that makes me think outside the box. This book is not only biblically based, but prophetic and practical. I highly recommend this book if you have a desire to change and transform your cities and if called, to nations.
This book has each chapter written by a different author. My two favorites were by Bill Johnson and Peter Wagner. Wagner’s chapter on Stewarding for Reformation is the single most personally resonant description of how business influence contributes to the Kingdom and Great Commission. I was deeply affected and inspired by this book.
After hearing many of my friends talk about the idea of the seven mountains of society, I felt really led to read up on it and came upon this book. It was inspiring and fascinating. The idea is simple there are seven areas of societal influence in our world, the media, the culture, government, education, religion, business and the family and the idea is for the Church to impact these areas for the Gospel. As a person who has worked quite a bit in the religion and culture areas I can definitely see this need. The book is encouraging and optimistic and thought provoking and got me really thinking about my work in the church and the arts and really seeking God to see how I can make better use of the opportunities given to me and how I can encourage and empower the people God has given me to serve as pastor to use their considerable gifts to impact our world with the truth that sets men free, the Gospel of Jesus Christ. This was a good read.
One of the most excellent and digestible books on the subject of the 7 Mountain Mandate. Lance Wallnau and Bill Johnson have compiled information from people who are excelling in the areas of their gifting and calling to reveal how the Church should reclaim territory for the Kingdom. The balanced view that it's not about being arrogant but about redemptive in making the world what God intended from the beginning is refreshing and inviting.
This book is for anyone who has felt that their walk has been somewhat lack luster because of a false narrative or incomplete view of the Christian walk. I'd recommend this for anyone who wants more out of their life and wants to make a difference in their community and sphere of influence.
Those that are apart of God’s true remnant, his ecclesia, were born for such a time as this. I thoroughly enjoyed this book. Each chapter is written by someone different and they are all great examples of a true Christian and how we can be an influence in whichever of the 7 mountains we are called to. Some great testimonies in each chapter as well.
This was such a powerful read and really showed me God's power knows no limits. It challenged to me to think of how I can bring God to my day to day something I didn't realise. I enjoyed reading it and it was an easy read.
Amazing book, I really loved this and how it had prophetic words and insight from a bunch of different people. This was an amazing book on the seven mountains and I'd highly recommend it to any Christian who feels called to any of the mountains of influence in society. :)
First, let me say that I certainly would only recommend this book for the knowledge of what the authors and their groups have planned and want to accomplish in our world. Although this book is fairly short and very easy to read, the authors in this book push the idea of Christian people taking over all the important areas of life, such as home; church; education; media; politics; performing arts and commerce. Now I can understand people of influence following their personal beliefs in any area they work, live or play, but I do not agree in a forceful take over in the name of Christianity. As Christians, we are to be know for our love for one another. Loving others and forcing religious beliefs on others are two different things. We are to follow the example of Jesus by loving one another and helping make this world a better place for everyone, but forcing religious views on an entire country or world is not loving. One section talks about how money is necessary for the furtherance of this movement. Yet I remember reading how Jesus and his disciples turned the world upside down, yet they were poor in the world’s standard. The prosperity gospel does nothing but put guilt on people who are not rich. They talk about mega-churches as being good since they have so much money, yet most mega-churches have pastors who own mansions, fleets of airplanes and spend so much of the money on themselves and the business of the church organization. Saying God wants us all to prosper financially is totally unbiblical. Of course, the topic of tithing and robbing from God is used, which is typical, although tithing is an old covenant law that was given to the Jews and not to the rest of us. In the New Covenant of grace, tithing is no longer a thing. We are told to give as our heart leads us to help others, but a law of tithing to God or to people in an organization is no more. This book also demeans those who are LGBTQ and certainly shows no love towards those who are gay. Jesus nowhere says to hate, discriminate, judge, condemn nor exclude anyone. Another issue I noticed is this group has a whole strategic plan laid out to methodically turn the country and the world over to Christian control. Rather than follow the Spirit and loving people, they have specific plans to fulfill their goals. Of course, it is all according to their interpretations of the bible. They do not take into account that there are many different sects of Christianity and many, many various religions and forms of belief, many of which claim the same God. I am certainly not against following the example of Jesus by loving God and loving one another. Jesus kingdom is not of this world and forcing this particular view of kingdom living is not what God had planned. The Kingdom of God is not a kingdom of rich, powerful people forcing their interpretation of Christian living on everyone else. The Kingdom of God is one of love, acceptance, grace, healing and caring for all people of the world. It is also a kingdom of granting people the right to reason and think about whether they want to accept this way of living or not.
For too long the church has taken a back seat in society. It has kept to its own small corner providing safe haven for believers. But Christians were not called to stay safe, they were called to bring light into dark places, and to be strong and courageous in speaking up for the gospel and revealing the nature of Jesus to a world that is crying out for His presence. This book is a great place to start if you feel a stirring to be more active for the kingdom and bring a change to how things are. Time to engage and get activated!
It's pretty good overall, though is pretty sparse an the details and the language it uses is rather unsavoury. Also they barely mention Jesus at all. And never see the glaring contradictions in for example their prosperity gospel and Jesus's many calls to poverty. They went as far as to call poverty of the devil, thus calling Jesus the devil. So yeah many inconsistencies.
