But when she discovers she’s pregnant, Mara finds herself torn between two unforgettable men…

Kyle Bowden is the mortal father of her unborn child. A gorgeous, golden-haired artist full of passion and life, Kyle was ready to give his soul to Mara—until he learned her terrible secret.

Logan Blackwood is the Vampire she created nine-hundred years ago. Now a Hollywood millionaire with all the dark seductive power of his kind, Logan still longs for the woman who turned him.

With time running out—and her Dark Gift fading—Mara must decide what is best for the miraculous new life growing inside her. But first she must embrace the feelings in her heart—and choose one lover…for all eternity.

I would have loved to give this story 5 stars, except that Mara's stubborn ass attitude irritated the hell out of me halfway through the story. The beginning was great actually. I loved her relationship with Logan, and I really liked Logan's character. Although, I truly empathise with him, feel sorry for him, at the same time have a helluva admiration for his love for Mara.

Heck, I felt like smacking Mara in the head and asking her What the Fck is wrong with you! There's a man right in front of you who has loved you over a few centuries and has loved you even knowing who you are and what you've done and you chose the dumbass, spineless Kyle over Logan. Gosh, in reality where can I get me some Logan?

Gosh! I am so fired up right now!

I mean, who would choose a wimp over a man who clearly loves and is able to protect you and your baby from harm? I hated how she was in denial..and for like freaking 900 years denial...before she could 'SEE' that all along she loved Logan...talk about experienced...shouldn't you be consciously aware of your feelings after having lived that long?

Guess all that immortality really gets to your head and you just want to have all the fun in the world without caring what happens to those around you...

In the end, I know she's supposed to be a strong 2000 year old vamp, but where did all that attitude, experience go to? Mara only gave way to becoming a coward when it came to facing her pregnancy and to have the guts to love Logan like he loved her....I get that she feels useless or nicely put...vulnerable after losing her powers...but still...jeez

I admired that she finally accepted her baby's presence and did all she could to love the child, but to think Kyle would have been a better dad...err nope...i mean, he only fathered the child but Logan would have done it all to protect Mara and the babe that isn't even his...

Well, sorry for the rant but I think that this story really got me peeved.

PS: I've never read the first few books in the series to know Mara, but if she was kickass there, she definitely wasn't here. I've read lots of spunky vamp/werewolves/contemporary women characters who have way more backbone than Mara...

PPS: This rant doesn't conclude who she ends up with...you'll just have to read it yourself. I just didn't like what happened in between...thus the rant.

Book 5 in the My Night/Children of the Night series

This is the book everyone has been waiting for- Mara's story! And it doesn't disappoint! It is filled with love, heartache, friendship, and of course betrayal. Oh, and I almost forgot, a love triangle (of sorts). Wrap that up with Ms. Ashley's fantastic writing and you have one hella book!

Mara starts feeling weird and discovers that her vampire powers are diminishing. Not only that, but Mara has to deal with another shock, of a very human kind. With Mara has to think fast. And, ultimately, decide between two men: Kyle Bowden a gorgeous artist or Logan Blackwood (don't you just LOVE that name!!) who Mara turned into a vampire against his will almost a thousand years ago who never fell out of love with her.

Thankfully, both men love her and will do anything for her. So, the real question is, who does she really love.

Sorry, I just can't tell you any more than that. The story is too good to pass up, so read it! :o)

Paranormal is a style that I have grown to enjoy over the years and Night's Mistress by Amanda Ashley was a new read for me.  In Night's Mistress we follow the life of Mara the Queen of Vampires.  She was turned against her will at a point in her life that she was just begging for death.  From that point forward she embraced the life of the night.  Sleeping during the day and feeding at night. Until as she got older she was then able to start walking in the daylight.  This made her the exception to the rule, a vampire that could walk in the daylight was something that all vampires wanted but had never been able to find the ability to do so.  This again made her a desired commodity.  To feed from her would give others to a certain extent her abilities.

Because of Mara's age the story has flashbacks to different times periods and upon occasion I found this to be confusing.  It wasn't always evident when she was going to have a flashback and that led to times of being lost in the story.  I also found the story didn't move along quite as well as I would have liked to see it.  Simple scenes that should have taken a short period of time seemed to stretch out for far too long.

The one thing that I did find a good flow with was the character development.  A few too many characters to keep track of them all but the relationships between them were explained quickly and without confusion.  The author really showed the development of Mara in going from human to vampire and the evolution of the character from there.

I found the story to be interesting even if it did take a little longer than normal to get into the story.  I would definitely consider reading another book from Amanda Ashley.  Because of that I give Night's Mistress a 4 Rose Rating of Lovely Rose.

Ok, I'm so sorry for my two stars, but it is the best I can do.

I found this book in a dollar store. I love vampires and the synopsis sounded fun; and it was kind of fun but...

It cold be a nice experience but then I found a lot of contradictions in the narrative. Most of the decisions made by the main character Mara were totally unfit to the profile and personality the author was trying to imply about Mara; she was supposed to be a strong vampire (the strongest of all), but her decisions are contradictory, with non-sense and even silly sometimes.

Also, the author would say that Mara would never do something, but then she was there doing it.

In resume, while the author was trying to build a strong character, Mara ended more like a teen vampire mostly.

I really got excited about the topic of what happens to Mara, but as the story went on I couldn't rescue her anymore.

I always loved Mara's character in the other books, but this book left me liking her less. (not a lot) She seemed shallow. I hated how she treated Kyle, then at the end he dies, and she is like"oh well, now that I'm free of him, I can be with who I wanted to be with anyway" Also the way she treated Logan and when she comes crawling back, and he's like "Well the husband I hated is dead, I have to put up with a kid, but I got her in the end." I am glad she became a vampire again, and that she wasn't a fledgling, but the powerful "Queen" she always was. ^.^

My god. Human Mara is such an IDIOT. I did not like this book, AT ALL. Logan was the only redeeming part, and the only reason I'm rating this two stars instead of one. Although he SOOO deserves better than Mara.

Dropped @ 26% i dont like the pregnancy trope, and I dont really like the main characters, the MFC was not believable as the most powerful vampire, not even a little. Even in audio format, it was not my cup of tea.

Full Circle

Maria's story was as great as I hoped. I enjoyed her character in earlier books and wanted her to have a book of her own. Mara, the most powerful vampire in the world needed to lose everything before she could gain real happiness. Msn Ashley gives us a complicated story needed to do justice to a queen.

Slow start, but picks up and keeps you interested for the rest of the book. If you’re into vampires mixed with reality, it’s a great read.

This is the first have read of Amanda Ashley's books. I was totally impressed with her writing style. Although I would not recommend this for YA reading, the sexual situations and intimate scenes are not detailed enough to call them explicit.

Mara, the Queen of Vampires, takes on a different role in this fast moving, endearing, fantasy novel. The author , cleverly, throws in a different twist to this Vampire novel which is very intriguing. Mara is very torn between major complications throughout the story...torn between two loves - Logan or Kyle. Which would you choose - Logan from her past or Kyle, a more recent lover? The reader will have to decide if Mara is truly evil or if she deserves compassion.

Key points: Power struggle, mystery, romance, family unity, violence, humanity.

The book cover is a great portrayal of the main character and her serenity. The title is fitting, as well. Amanda is very talented in portraying the individual characters and in captivating the reader into the various scenes. The story never drags in the least, yet artfully fluctuates between several supporting characters and scenes.

Because of the terrific writing style, my rating of this book is Five Stars.

Although it contains much intimacy, I still felt it would fit into a PG-13 category, yet, slightly "impassioned" for YA. You be the judge.

The author gifted me this book for an honest review, of which I have given.

REVIEW:

Great story! Mara, the heroine, is an ancient vampire whose last relationship with a human ended badly when he found out she was a vampire. She is nursing a broken heart when she runs into an old flame Logan Blackwood, a vampire she turned several hundred years ago and who has been in love with her since he was turned. I loved Logan! Mara is losing her vampire power and turning human. With all the different factions after her she turns to Logan for protection. I was annoyed when Kyle came back into the picture, and Mara had to choose between the two men, but I was happy with the ending. There are lots of surprises and complications in the story and it has a great plot with lots of action, danger, and steamy romance. Amanda Ashley writes great paranormal romance and I recommend this book and the series for vampire lovers.

I started out really liking this book but around the middle it started to drag. The love triangle just didn't work for me. The parts with Kyle just didn't sit well with me at all, it felt very wrong. I just wanted to scream at her for her choice and I read through most of the second half very quickly, not really caring about it.

There was just something off about the whole setup that made me feel disconnected from the book. Perhaps I just couldn't relate to Mara at all.

The story picked up toward the end, and I started to like it a bit more. It was mostly the middle that held no appeal for me. The begging was strange but I was enjoying it until about half way through when everything took a turn for the worst.

Mara is a vampire. Mara is over 2,000 years old. Mara is so old she can walk in the sunlight. And something else is happening to Mara. She is in love with 2 different men. 1 is human and has just cause to hate all vampires, but he can't forget the beauty, grace and love that is Mara. 1 is a nearly 1,000 vampire that Mara made and he has loved her every day thereafter. When a shocking thing in Mara's life makes her vulnerable to every vampire or human that she has ever crossed, which of these gallant lovers will be there to hold she who he calls dearest. Well folks, you're just going to have to read this wonderful addition to Amanda Ashley's "Children of the Night" series, cause this gal doesn't give away that kind of information! *smirk*

I have been eagerly waiting to read this book and finally had an opportunity. With Mara's involvement with the entire Cordova family and their books/stories, I was looking forward to hearing Mara's story, fully expecting a historical account of her existence. while the actual book isn't that, it is far from disappointing. The twists - can't specify without spoiling it for your - are unexpected and definitely never broached in any book or movie I've enjoyed. Leave it to Ms. Ashley to bring a new storyline to the otherwise "traditional" vampire romance! I look forward to the next book in the series, the previews for which promise more new, interesting concepts for our favorite characters!

Amada Ashley brought her fans the long awaited installment in the Children of the Night series containing Mara's story in the recently brought to print Night's Mistress. This story was one that she feared might not live up to her fan's expectations, but certainly goes above and beyond our expectations. A story that delves into the strong character her fans know Mara to be, with a solid story-lines that most assurely does not disappoint! Once opening the book, the pages will continue to turn of their own volition! This is the kind of writing that makes Ashley a New York Times Best-Selling Author! You'll be hard-pressed not go go find th eentire series after reading Night's Mistress!

Another great story from Amanda Ashley. You have read about Mara in the other Children of the Night series now it's her turn to tell her story. And what a totally different story I thought Mara's would have been. Love seeing Rane (who is my favorite from the Children of the night series) play a part in this story and the rest if the Cordova clan. The whole story is not even close to what I was thinking or picturing of Mara and I liked the idea.

I really enjoyed reading this book. I have been waiting for this book of awhile now. The love triangle I wasn't so sure about, but she made it work. I would have liked a little more info on how it all happened. (Don't want to give to much away for those who haven't read it) I highly recommend this book, or any of Amanda Ashley's books, you can't go wrong with any of them.

A little long and somewhat repetitive but overall a good story.

Oops, I thought this sounded familiar. Don't you just hate when you start reading a "new" book and figure out you already read it. Ha, I guess I need to find an actual new book to read.
