The Kandesky management trio, Stefan, Jean-Louis and Pen, find themselves embroiled in a war with their rivals, the Huszars, which is bad for PR and bad for business, but after a judicious assassination they hammer out a pact.
This fourth book of the Kandesky Vampire Chronicles tells of peace agreements with their rivals and the growth of their now-international business ventures.
It also follows Jean-Louis as he meets and falls in love with a young artist, Magda, who desires travel and adventure but never imagined the world the Kandeskys inhabit
This is book four in the Kandesky series and we finally get Jean-Louis' story. Theron's colony is growing, he and his followers are indiscriminately turning people into vampires without any regard for the reprecussions it will cause, such as enough food. People are beginning to leave the farms and going to villages leaving less and less of a blood supply. Theron's habit of just killing and letting his followers do the same is creating havoc. In addition, he and the rest of the colony are living in filth and it is causing some of the vampires to turn against his rule.
Felix Theron's second in command has arranged for Theron's death and with it his rise to power. Stefan and Jean Louis arrange a meeting with the new leader and work out a neutral space between both territories to eliminate the possibility of war between the two groups. The colony is now organized, new clothes and cleanliness. Is this the beginning of an new era or will things just eventually escalate?
In order to ensure the neutral zone is secure Jean Louis seeks a mapmaker to map out the Kandesky's territory including the neutral zone and it is at this mapmaker's shop that his life changes. It is here that he meets the woman he hopes to marry, Magda, an apprentice mapmaker and a governess. But will she be willing to be turned? Can he convince her that he loves her enough to want to spend an eternity with her.
This is a novella and a beautiful love story, but will Jean Louis finally find happiness and will the two vampire families continue to exist in peace? I loved this book and the previous ones in the series and I can't wait for book five to come out.

3 1/2 stars. This is a short story about Jean Louis, and how he becomes part of Stefan's family and how he ends up with Magda. Moves right along, and brings some of the other characters into play that are in the main books. Shouldn't be listed as book 4. Maybe should be listed as .75 or 5.75, but not book 4.
I loved this entire series! I liked how well the characters were developed and how the story line grabbed me from the beginning. I couldn't wait to start the next book! Michelle does a great job grabbing your attention and keeping it from beginning to end!
