Maureen Mary was born on 1945 at Port Macquarie, a popular seaside town on the Mid-North Coast of New South Wales, Australia, and is the youngest of four children. Her sister was the novelist Wendy Brennan (Emma Darcy). Her father was a country school teacher and brilliant sportsman. Her mother was a talented dressmaker. When Miranda was ten, her father was transferred to Gosford, another coastal town in the countryside, much closer to Sydney. After leaving her convent school, she briefly studied the cello before moving to Sydney, where she embraced the emerging world of computers. Her career as a programmer ended after she married, had three daughters and bought a small acreage in a semi-rural community. Following this, she attempted greyhound training, as well as horse and goat breeding, but was left dissatisfied.

Miranda yearned to find a creative career from which she could earn money. When her sister suggested writing romances, it seemed like a good idea. She could do it at home, and it might even be fun! It took a decade of trial and error before her first romance, After the Affair, was accepted and published. At that time, Miranda, her husband Tony, and her three daughters had moved back to the Central Coast, where they could enjoy the sun and the surf lifestyle once again. Not long into her writing career, Miranda committed herself to writing a six-book series entitled, The Hearts of Fire, with a deadline of just nine short months. Bravely, her husband left his executive position to stay home and support Miranda’s writing career. He learned to cook and to clean, two invaluable household skills. Numerous successful stories followed, each embodying Miranda’s trademark style: pacy and sexy rhythms; passionate, real-life characters; and enduring, memorable story lines. She has one credo when writing romances: Don’t bore the reader! Millions of fans world-wide agree she never does.

Miranda was the sister of the late author, Emma Darcy.

Pure romantic fantasy.

The way this romance plays out is how I imagine many women would like their first times, having sex and falling in love, to be like. Virginal, former "shrinking violet" finds true love with a handsome, wealthy and more experienced older man? Yes, please. The fantasy is appealing but what makes this concept work is the believable execution.

I liked how Violet and Leo's relationship evolved over several months, which involved actual getting-to-know-one-another conversations. They did jump into bed quickly, but they were clearly enchanted with each other's minds and characters as well as their bodies. I also liked how Leo retained a sexy edge in addition to being nice and charming (he can be my master anytime, hehe). It was cute seeing how his jealous and protective attitude towards Violet hinted at deeper feelings.

Most of all, I enjoyed seeing Violet overcome her fears to embrace a HEA with the man of her dreams.

I adored watching the heroine grow into a beautiful, strong and courageous woman. It was a delight that she went from meek mouse to sassy woman. I liked Leo to, especially all his thoughts at the end of the novel, wondering if she would love him. It was well written and totally adorable.

This 25-year old h went from virginity to bondage scenes, lol.

The H is 40 years old. I don’t care about the age gap, but I didn’t like that he was twice divorced and had a grown child.

This is such a classic Mills&Boon romance with a hint of eroticism. :)

There are some really cute tropes including; Virgin MFC, First Time, Age Gap (M40, F25), and Romance.

It presents Violet's virginity as a beautiful thing although she's not defined by it, as Leo falls for her mind as well as her body. The way her first time is described is how I imagine most women want their first time - careful, dedicated, patient, and full of trust and romance, which is really attractive to the target audience. The man is a walking green flag when it comes to making his woman feel comfortable. A little part of it is unrealistic since the relationship forms quite quickly and they practically have at it 30 minutes after he finds out she is a virgin and looking to change that by next year's Christmas (as per her New Year resolutions). Although it is a work of fiction so somethings can be forgiven, especially considering the book is less than 200 pages so is there for entertainment and fantasy, not hard-core reality. As a cute little escape reality book, for an hour or two, it's a hit!

This was an okay story. I liked the heroine's resolve at the beginning of the novel and I felt sympathetic towards her at the beginning of the book due to her history - which I think lots of people can relate to. I didn't like, however, that despite telling herself that she's only after sex, all it took was one encounter with the lead male, Leo, for her to fall deeply in love with him. That's just one of my pet peeves in romance stories because it's so unrealistic and just so stupid. It makes this great female character look stupid and naive and I hate that.
2 stars cos I liked the beginning but didn't like the middle or end.

So Violet I kinda understood, even though I thought the story was shallow. Lots of people have extremely bad acne and they never have the money to remove the scarring. I think that I would have enjoyed this story more if she was viewed as beautiful with the scarring. I think that this story equates physical beauty within socially acceptable parameters as a sign of being a worthy person and I disagree with that sentiment. Oh and can the guy she likes be any more paternalistic? He was so annoying. I just didn't connect with either character which made this book a hard read.

Some eyeroll-worthy moments for sure, but a surprisingly adorable hero and a really nice, sweet ending. I would have liked the hero's adult son to show up a bit more, but I suppose that wouldn't have fit within the category romance page count. I appreciated that Lee avoided the potential big misunderstanding --> last-minute separation by having the hero and heroine actually communicate after they start arguing.

Miranda Lee is one of my fave M&B authors because I enjoy her waffle-free dialogue and direct action within each story but Master of Her Virtue is not one of her better books.

I liked that Leo is unlike many heroes in the M&B stable, being a forty year-old, twice-divorced man and father of an adult child. And I could live with Violet being a twenty-five year-old virgin. Her backstory came across as plausible for her character.

What didn't work for me was the continual reference to the age gap - including Leo always referring to Violet as a 'girl'. A twelve to fifteen year gap seems par for the course in M&B books, but here it's an issue the author dramatises. It seems silly given Leo doesn't think long before deciding he'll be Violet's first lover.

What also didn't work for me was the lack of communication between these two. There was plenty of internal dialogue, followed by telling each other the opposite of what they really meant, followed by declarations of love and happy ever afters. I am surprised these two even managed to get together.

I really enjoyed this story. After suffering from cystic acne, bullying, and weight problems throughout her teenage and young adult years, Violet has low self-esteem and antisocial behaviors. She doesn't have friends except for her elderly landlady and her boss, the H's father. Once she's inspired to take control of her life, she puts herself out there even though she's scared. I liked how brave Violet was to overcome her doubts and fears and try to gain control over her life. Leo was a good match for her but Violet definitely had the most growth.

The plot progressed at just the right pace. The story contained the right amount of anticipation, excitement and action. The atmosphere in the story was captivating. It only took a couple of hours to read the book. This should have been a longer story.

She loved him but he didn't know it and he loved her but he didn't know it either. Then it hit him "I love her". What a change to have an older man 40 to her 25. Love that being the case.

A bit slow

I found the beginning of this story a bit slow and didn’t really pick up the pace until three quarters of the way through. Enjoyed the ending.

(Explicito).

I saw this in a box of unread books and thought it would be a nice, easy read to finish the year. IT WAS NOT. In fact, IT WAS HORRIBLE and reminded me of why I don't enjoy these books anymore.

I deliberately didn't read the blurb and dove straight into it. However, as soon as I saw "movie producer", I knew I would hate it. There are some tropes I should stay away from and "Hollywood" ones are at the top of the list. So this is the book - twice divorced, 40 year old movie producer seduces 25 year old incredibly smart (replace smart with naive and ANNOYING) virgin and they live happily ever after. I think not either. YUCK! Where are the strong, brilliant women? Some-one needs to drag these writers into the 21st century as they are doing their gender a BIG disservice. The heroine crying in the bathroom because she wants him to propose? WTF?

I desperately need to find something to finish reading in the next 2 days as no way am I ending a good reading year on such a hideous note. Note to future self: Quick, lazy read does not equal good read. Oh and READ THE BLURB!

You've got Violet, who is a clever, witty, genius but who is painfully shy and anti-social. She had a scare and is looking to take control of her life and go out there and lose her virginity. She meets Leo, her bosses twice-married, 40-year-old son and decides he's the one. Only he feels too old and too worldly for her, so he resists...and when he doesn't, he does all he can to avoid breaking her heart, knowing that she's young and naive and too likely to lose her heart. But that sort of backfires and then he's stuck trying to figure out how to get such a young and vivacious woman to settle down with him before she's really experienced life.

This just didn't hit the spot for me. I think my biggest issue was with Violet. I didn't really care for her "I have to lose my virginity" sort of mission. I mean, it was sort of all consuming and there are so many other better things to go after when you have a new lease on life. And rather than seeming mature and sophisticated, which is what she was probably going for, her reaction to Leo's insistence that it was all lust, just felt childish. And she flip-flops so much on her opinion of Leo. Even later, when he's looking for a way to keep her in his life or to keep the relationship going and suggests they get meet up in different countries and get together, she jumps the conclusion (which she's been harboring all week) that he just wants someone to have sex with. Well, what else was he going to suggest for a long-distance relationship? He never once mentioned the words "mistress," "sex" or "affair" in his whole spiel, so why did she jump down his throat? She once again demonstrated her childishness, and that's what I struggled with there. I really did like the age difference and their differences in experience and how Leo felt jaded almost, but I just wish the heroine had been a bit more mature. I did find it kind of refreshing though that .

Master of Her Virtue is the twenty-third stand-alone romance by Australian author, Miranda Lee. For some perfectly valid reasons, Violet Green is still a virgin at twenty-five. But after a close call with death just after Christmas, Violet makes a New Year’s resolution to change all that by the following New Year. Accepting an invitation to her boss, Henry’s New Year’s Eve party is just the first step. When Henry’s twice-divorced son, Leo attaches himself to Violet, she’s incredulous. Leo Wolfe is wealthy and very attractive, and somehow, Violet finds herself convincing him to help her change her virgin status. This romance has a charming hero, a feisty heroine and some hot love scenes. Very enjoyable.

A good story that dragged on a bit. During a airplane emergency a twenty-five year old comes to the conclusion that it's time to branch out and lose her virginity. Her target is her boss's forty year old director son. Once the decision is made things move fairly quickly but the relationship gets bogged down in too much rhetoric.

I LOVED this book !!! Miranda Lee is one of my favorite HP/harlequin author and she didn't disoppoint me this time either. Absolutely one of her BEST and now one of my all time favorite HP. Older man/younger woman is one of my favorite theme and in this book heroine is 25 and hero is 40. I wish there were more of them.
