Smoky Mountain Matches #3

His Mountain Miss

Rate this book
A Battle of Wills

New Orleans aristocrat Lucian Beaumont wants only to sell his estranged grandfather's property and escape the backwoods of Gatlinburg, Tennessee. But a stipulation in the will brings him head-to-head with a local beauty. Megan O'Malley and the town must have access to the house. For the first time in his life the commanding Lucian finds himself at an impasse.

Clearly the worldly gentleman doesn't fit in Megan's quaint Smoky Mountain town. But as she glimpses the man beneath the hardened veneer, she believes Lucian is here for a purpose. To heal his soul. And maybe, with Megan's help, to heal his heart.

I enjoyed book "His Mountain Miss" - Book #3 of 12 in Karen Kirst's Smoky Mountain Matches series.

Lucian was the perfect hero for romantic - bookworm Megan, who always sought a fairy-tale romance with a spark. My only wish was that Megan share her lack of romantic feelings with Tom earlier, rather than wait until page 242 of 279.

I am looking forward to beginning Nathan's and Sophie's story next... "The Husband Hunt" (Smoky Mountain Matches Book #4) will be my next read :) Slowly but surely I am making my way through this great series.

I love this whole Smoky Mountain Matches Series by Karen Kirst!! I actually read book #2 (The Bridal Swap) in the series a couple of years ago and when I read #5 (Married by Christmas) at the end of last year, I realized it was part of a series. So I got this book, The Reluctant Outlaw, and The Husband Hunt in order to complete the series. Karen Kirst is so good at creating believable, endearing characters that you just can't help but feel and cheer for. These books are just complete page turners, never a boring moment. I usually finish each book in about 2-3 days time. They are set in the late 1800's in Gatlinburg, TN and it circles around the two O'Malley families: the one set has 3 brothers and the other set of cousins has 5 daughters. This book is about the 2nd daughter. Lucian Beaumont, a New Orleans aristocrat, has inherited his estranged grandfather's house in Gatlinburg and he wants nothing more than to come in, get the house sold and then head back to his comfortable, yet mundane, life in New Orleans. However, his grandfather's will has other plans. Megan O'Malley befriended and became a companion of sorts to Lucian's grandfather before he died, helping him set up poetry evenings, weekly reading circles for the local children and other social events for the community that took place in his house. And because of these events, he has stipulated that if his grandson doesn't want the house, then she gets it . . . without her knowledge. Which of course Lucian doesn't believe she had no knowledge of. So tension arises, which is how many of the best romances begin; and this book does not disappoint. This couple is fascinating to watch and they truly do have a lovely story that shows God's faithfulness and love. I promise, this whole series is fantastic and I've already pre-purchased book #6 that will be coming out in April 2015 . . . so you have plenty of time to get caught up on all the rest! :)

Update: On reading this through again in 2019, I had some things bother me this time round. 6 years and I've had a bit of a perspective change!
It bothered me that she accepted a good friend's proposal when she wasn't sure about him. It also bothered me that the message in this book suggested that the wild racing romance was to be sought rather than the good friendship of someone she liked and admired and who was a believer. That was a disappointment. Plus, there wasn't anything about the unequal yoke. Although he does become a believer before they marry, the omission bothered me. So rating has changed.

#3 in the Smoky Mountain Matches series.

Lucian Beaumont is tired of the ladies who are interested in him solely for his wealth and social standing. His own parents had an unhappy marriage, and Lucian has decided that when he marries it will be for duty and for the sole purpose of producing an heir.

That is until he comes to Gatlingburg, Tennessee and meets Megan O'Malley.

Megan is everything his future wife shouldn't be. She's a mountain girl, she loves her family and the simple things of life, an avid romance reader she's looking for a "happily ever after"...and she wants 10 children!

She also has a heart of gold, and is the 1st person to see past the man and look into his heart.

Can Lucian trust God enough to put Him in the centre, and marry for love rather than duty?

A wounded hearted hero, a lovely mountain miss, and a heartwarming romance – a sweet historical and faith filled story by Karen Kirst.

You don't have to have read the previous 3 books to enjoy this one, but the characters from the previous stories do play a part in this one, so you'll probably want to read them anyway to find out more about them.

I don't know that I liked Megan and Lucian's story as much as the previous stories in the series. I think it wasn't actually Megan or Lucian that was the problem, though. Megan's friend Tom was portrayed as a really friendly guy in the previous book ('The Bridal Swap'), but all I got from him in this story was a 'jealous peacock' vibe, and it was kinda distracting.
That said, I liked how Lucian, especially, learned to let go of his preconceived notions about his late grandfather, and learned to trust in the God that loves all people, even in the difficult, heartbreaking times. I loved that because Megan could see his heart, Lucian felt 'safe' to be who he really was.
I also liked how Megan kept holding onto her family and her faith, even when things seemed bleakest; how she was determined to see the best in people, and her desire to be kind. I liked how her relationship with Lucian seemed to develop naturally once they got to know each other, rather than just seemingly instantaneously 'falling in like'.

The Marriage of Love

Lucian and Megan had many different views of life. Could Luciana's, Grandfather Charles have planned that upon his death these two may someday learn to love each other? Could Charles have known that Megan would be the one person to help Lucian find the truly good man he could be?

Lucian, new Orleans aristocrat, comes to sell his grandfather's house. He never knew or met his grandfather but Megan O'Malley was a confidant and friend. In his will the stipulation said Megan was to use the house for community activities. Interesting story follows in number 3 of the series

Title: His Mountain Miss

Author: Karen Kirst

Series: Smoky Mountain matches Love inspired

Pages: 288

Genre: Christian Historical Romance

Rating: 5 stars

His Mountain Miss by Karen Kirst is the third book in the Smoky Mountain matches series. It is Megan O'Malley’s story. She wants to continue using the house that Lucian Beaumont inherited from his grandfather to continue to allow the children of Gatlinburg to have access to books. Lucian wants to sell the property and head back to New Orleans. To continue to keep the past behind him.
His Mountain Miss is my favorite of the Smokey Mountain Matches so far. I think it is because Megan is a book worm. Megan has always wanted to marry for love. Her family thinks it is because she reads so many novels and fairy tales. Lucian wants to treat marriage like a business arrangement so no one gets hurt. This is because of his parent’s unhappy marriage. However God has other plans for both Megan and Lucian.

The thing that I love about Love Inspired novels all three branches is that even though it’s a romance the novels also include faith and learning to trust God.

This was my first Love Inspired Historical romance and it was good. I liked that there wasn't any sex scenes. This one is clean and a very good read.

Megan O'Malley lives in Gatlinburg, Tennessee during the later 1800s. She volunteers to read to a group of young children in now deceased Charles Beaumont's home, estranged grandfather to Lucian Beaumont. Lucian is from New Orleans and came to sell the home, but soon discovers from his grandfather's lawyer that Megan has been given the right to carry on her storytelling in the home and Lucian, the home itself.

Megan and Lucian are very different. Lucian is determined to sell the home and writes his grandfather's lawyer to find a loophole that will allow him to do so. Megan, on the other hand, continues to tell her stories until the situation is resolved.

As the story unfolds, we find Lucian trying to understand why his mother and grandfather never let him come to Gatlinburg. Slowly, his hard shell is softened with the help of Megan.

Lucian Beaumont grew up thinking his mother was the only one who loves him. His father only loved his mother long enough to pull her away from her family and she spent the rest of her life trying to get him to love her again. Soon after she dies, Lucian finds that his grandfather has also passed on and left him a house, with stipulations, the biggest leading to Megan O'Malley and finding out that he was loved by his grandfather after all and that his mother kept too many secrets from him. Likeable characters and an enjoyable story line.

I could really relate to the man, not just the heroine. Although simplistic writing, it stands well with complex character situations and relationships.
