Another fantastic series that picks up with a start. Poor Mo. She is being passed around, lied too, manipulated, by all the people who are supposedly "looking out for her." I don't think I have shook my head so much as I read this book. But YAY, for a strong heroine.

The plot of this book is filled with many twist and turn. Mo is dealing with the after affects of what happen in the first book as well as dealing with more family problems. I really like that in this book, the reader gets to see more of Mo's life. We learn more of her family and her past.

The love interest in this book gets a bit more complicated. With those guys fighting for her ruthlessly, I loved how well she can see. She saw past both of their past and dealt with what she knew. I like that she was frighten but strengthen them. Even with the hard times that she deals with her own personal life, she never lets it get her down. She did what she needed to do for others and put everything aside for them.

My only grudge about this book is the poor misuse of Mo. She got tossed around like a rag doll. Like strong women, her trials made her stronger. I admired her will and ability to keep going no matter what.

Overall, this is good book. The plot is filled with drama, boy drama, family drama and much more skeletons coming out of the closet. I look forward to seeing how this book is going to end.

I adored Erica O’Rourke’s first book, TORN, and I won’t lie: I had very high hopes when I went into TANGLED.

Well, I can honestly say that my hopes were met and then some. This sequel takes the twisted, complex plot from book 1 to a whole new level.

Okay, first off: Mo. I adore her–I adore that she’s not The Chosen One, but only the The Chosen One’s BFF. I adore that she goes from being a character to whom stuff happens to a character who makes stuff happen. Her strength–and sometimes misguided choices–in Tangled are exactly what I want to see in a good YA heroine.

Second: Colin. And Luc…and Colin. The stellar love triangle O’Rourke gave us in TORN is back and ten times hotter. I honestly adore both boys, and both boys brought out different sides of Mo’s character. The romantic tension just sparks on the page.

Third: Subplots. O’Rourke is literally a master at weaving together seemingly separate stories into one. Plus, a plot about the Mob?! Who wouldn’t love that? I think the criminal connections in Mo’s family just add another unique layer to this story, and I can honestly say, “Wow. I wish I had thought of that.”

This is not your average YA paranormal romance–it digs more deeply and spins tropes on their heads.Quite simply, I need book 3 in my life…like yesterday.

So, if you enjoy thrilling romance, criminal mystery, or kickbutt heroines, then be SURE to pick up TANGLED–and it’s predecessor, TORN.

All in all:

Mo (Mouse) Fitzgerald is still adjusting to life without her best friend Verity and the knowledge learned from the events in Torn, including her new role in a supernatural world she never knew existed. As if that wasn’t enough…Mo has her own personal family drama going on that has nothing to do with Supernaturals and everything to do with organized crime and family secrets.

TANGLED picks up shortly after the end of TORN. Mo managed to help stabilize things for the the Magical community and took over Verity’s role as the vessel and in now tied to Luc, and though she can admit that the boy has charm and definite appeal, in the back of her mind she still thinks that he is only interested in her because of the prophecy. Collin, Mo’s appointed bodyguard provided for her by her Mob uncle, is still guarding her and despite their mutual attraction Collin continues to push her away and remains highly guarded emotionally.

I know what you’re thinking “UGH! Another love triangle?! Stab me!”. Normally I would agree with you, but this love triangle doesn’t bother me that much. Whenever I am reading scenes with one love interest I am totally into that character and then the next chapter I am reading about the other guy and I am thinking he is the one! With a love triangle with two equally likable guys, what’s not to enjoy?

There are lots of new developments in this book including an unlikely “friend” that shows interest in helping Mo and the family dynamic is really shaken up when Mo’s mother begins making preparations for her father’s release from prison.

The real theme of this book is not love or redemption but secrets and lies and the impact they have on people from both sides of the deceit. It reminds me of that famous quote by Sir Walter Scott;

“Oh what a tangled web we weave,
When first we practice to deceive!”

FINALLY! A book with a freaking love triangle that’s actually a love triangle. Gah! I’m just so excited that this book was so different. Often I find myself picking out whom the main character will end up with. I think if the heroine has some kind of feeling for two male characters the reader should feel the same way. It seems pointless if the reader knows whom she’ll pick at the end. Why add a guy the heroine or the reader won’t even consider and complicate the plot? Fortunately, Tangled is nothing like any other books I've ever read.

Here we have two strong male characters. Both gorgeous, with qualities all readers love (or at least me). Mo has no idea who she will choose and I’m as lost as she is. In Torn the first book in the series I was Team Colin. Why? I really don’t know. He’s just amazing and the way he treats Mo is so gentle. Then for part of Tangled I was Team Luc. Now I’m Team Coluc. Get it? I can’t choose!

I’m going to try to review the plot without any spoilers. I liked that it was fast paced. I do feel bad for Mo because she gets out of a mess to get stock in another. Regardless the plot moves fast and it makes senses. I love how she’s almost living two separate lives without people in her “normal” live knowing. You guys need to read this series! It would be a crime to miss out on the steamy love triangle and an amazing read.

To Author:

Dear Erica,

First of all, you are amazing! Second, I have a problem and I think I have the solution. So, just hear me out. K? Mo shouldn't have to choose at the end between Colin and Luc. You are the creator of this awesome world and you can make things easy for her. Here’s how I think you should solve the problem:

Fuse Colin and Luc together! C’mon you can make that happen. Blame it on the magic or something.

You are welcome,
Me!

P.S. Make sure this creature has Colin’s guns!

Tangled is filled with deception. Mo lives the life of a normal teen while also living a secret magical life. She creates a web of lies as she keeps her magical life a secret from those around her. Even Mo’s normal life isn’t really so normal after all. Her uncle is a mobster and her father is finally being released from prison after many years. Mo’s life hasn’t been easy and she is guarded with her heart. I really like that her family became a part of the story.

What’s this about magic? Well, the magic has become way too powerful and it is starting to emerge in small children. The magical community is relying on Mo to save them from the out of control magic like she did before. Umm, and she only has a few days to do it. Pressure much? It’s like a pressure cooker situation for Mo! I loved all the magic and how it became central to the plot.

The romance takes a turn for the love triangle as Mo has feelings for both Colin and Luc. Colin is the human and Luc has the gift of magic. Colin is the nice guy while Luc can be cocky. Colin is focused only on making Mo happy while Luc will do things to get on her nerves. I dunno’. The whole setup is a little too expected for me.

Overall, I had some mixed feelings. I loved the magic but I was disappointed in the romance. I loved how Mo was affected by her family situation and how she used magic, but I didn’t care for how she dealt with the guys. Yeah, it was so-so.

Argh. It doesn't say much for a girl's maturity when she is literally falling into one guy's arms moments after being disappointed by another - and then flip-flops between them more than once! But I'm still invested in the story, so on I read.

So I started to read again and realized it is not my cup of tea yet it is a fantasy. This is a young adult book about boys and magic. I am past the boys stage but will give it to my daughter-in-law's younger sister who will love it.

5 for nostalgia, read this series when i was in 8th grade and they were my roman empire. i forgot all about them and re-read recently. didn't stand the test of time but i had to give them a 5 for old times sake.

The world was really interesting and I feel like Mo had a lot of character development but she was lowkey insufferable by the end and really predictable. I remember really loving the books as a teen but now as a 24 year old.... it really fell flat. It was giving Wattpad fanfiction.

But also..I would die for Colin and Luc.

I read the first book in this series, Torn, (review here) and was very happy I had the second book on hand to start right away. I was eager to see what was going to happen next with Mo and what the Arcs were going to ask, well demand really, she do now.

We left Mo after she fixed the magic for the Arcs and thought she was out of the magic world for good, yeah right. She is trying to get back to her life before she lost Verity, but she is slowly realizing that her life is never going to be the same. Her uncle is still watching her every move using Colin as his eyes and ears while her mother just remains oblivious to everything that happens around her. Mo also has a new issue to deal with, Constance. While in school one day Constance comes into her powers and Mo is scrambling to try and help her deal with the ramifications.

The book is categorized as a young adult urban fantasy, but it reads more like a contemporary book with magical elements peppered throughout. Even though I am not usually a contemporary reader, I did enjoy this book. There is enough fantasy in here to keep me interested, plus Mo’s life is in intriguing even without all the magic. Especially her uncle’s role in her life since she he has figured out that he is part of the mob and may not always have her best interest at heart. The level of his betrayal even took me by surprise a couple of times. Mo’s life is not easy and all the magic just adds another layer to her troubles. These issues have always been here waiting for her, but it took loosing Verity for her to realize that she never had a quiet life and happiness does not mean being content. So be aware when you go in that you are going to get more social issues with this novel than paranormal ones. I would not stop that from letting you try though, because I still think it is still completely worth reading.

I can’t not talk about the love triangle in this book, because it does consume a good portion of Mo’s thoughts. I went through the first book with an open mind and tried not to pick a guy, but now that I have read this one, my personal vote is for Luc. I really think the only reason Mo denies what she feels for Luc is because she thinks it is forced upon both of them. She believes Luc only wants her because of their combined destiny and because she is the Vessel. Here is a snippet from the book where Mo is contemplating this:

“I was never just Mo, to Luc. I was always the Vessel, the one he was fated to be with. But I wasn’t sure I believed in fate. And I wanted a guy who wanted me, not the prophecy I’d taken on.”

She does finally voice these thoughts out loud to Luc at one point and he denies it, but you can tell he is still struggling with this as well. I personally think they are meant to be together and it is not just fate. They both have feelings for each other and the only reason they are fighting them is because they do not want to be told want to do, they want a choice. I can respect that, I am just keeping fingers crossed that Mo gives Luc a real shot one day too.

The whole novel really is a constant love triangle, but there is no clear choice for Mo. Both relationships have cracked foundations, neither is perfect and I am sure these issues will come out even more in future books. I feel a little bad for the two guys, because Mo goes back and forth quite a bit. Neither of them really knows if they are truly with her or if she will change her mind again by the next time they see her. The root of the problem is Mo. She is still trying to decide what life she wants and both guys are just along for the ride until that decision comes. Whichever she chooses, she will have a good guy waiting for her, it is just a matter of her determining which future she wants.

As for the fantasy elements, it has always been hinted at that Mo has potential in the magical world and that is explored more in Tangled. She is supposed to be the Vessel now, but she still doubts herself and her ability to help. I cannot say too much more without spoiling things, but I am very excited to see how events in this book will affect Mo’s life in the future.

I know that there is only one book left, Bound, which is due out later this year. I have my hopes for what will happen, but only Erica knows how this will all end. Overall, I am really enjoying this series and watching Mo discovery who she is. I would recommend it to anyone who loves contemporary with a little fantasy, but still think fantasy lovers would enjoy it as well.

The Torn saga continues.... I had completely forgotten that I had read book 1 in the series! LOL! Then reading the back of book 2 I realized that I was all set and ready to read because I had read book 1! ;-)
I am enjoying this series. Trilogies are my favorites and in this case book 2 was just as good as book 1. I really like how Mo is coming into her own and deciding who she is, where her loyalties lie and what she wants in life. For her there are no easy answers.
I'm excited to start book 3, which I have right here. Yay me! :-D

Favorite Quote: “For a second, I didn’t even feel the cut of his words, like when your slicing a loaf of bread, and the knife slips. You know something is wrong, you know you should be in pain, but the shock keeps you numb, even as you start to bleed.”

Tangled picks up about three months after Torn left off. Mo used her gift as a vessel to avenge her friend’s death and negotiate with her family for some much needed freedom. When Verity’s sister Constance comes into her power early and violently, Mo calls upon the only one she knows can help Constance-Luc. When Luc arrives he brings his mother and father along. His father explains to Mo that in her attempts to fix the magic earlier, she has inadvertently triggered something and now the magic is more unstable than ever. He offers her a deal. Fix the magic and they will help Constance. No fix, no help. Mo knows nothing in the Arc is ever that simple but agrees for Constance’s sake. As Mo tries to understand and fix the magic without killing herself, she begins to get pressure from her Uncle that will soon require her to make a dangerous choice for all of them.

Ms. O’Rourke picks the best titles for her books. Tangled perfectly describes Mo as she is pulled deeper in to Luc’s world while trying to find firmer footing in her own. Smooth writing and a steady pace propels the storyline along at a comfortable speed. There is still a lot of narrative in here and the result is you sometimes feel as though your being read to; which caused some issues for me. There is deeper character development, allowing us to connect to these people on a more emotional level. I felt as though we got to meet them in Torn, but we really get to know them in here. Layers in both characters and the plot lines are peeled back and the real agendas are revealed. While Mo was the center of Torn, other characters are taking a stronger stand in here, carrying more weight. It still speaks in a youthful tone to me but seems to have matured in some areas. I enjoyed the more paranormal storyline but still feel the contemporary aspects are stronger.

Ms. O’Rourke spends a lot of time in here analyzing what happened in Torn. Mo is now feeling the ramifications of what she did and the backlash is terrifying. She is being pulled in different directions and tries to stay one step ahead of everyone, out maneuvering before she is trapped by her own actions. I do like that she still has no magic in here and a majority of her actions are the result of her intelligence, open mind, and sheer stubbornness. She is a human vessel in which magic can flow through and Ms. O’Rourke keeps her that way. I felt her stubbornness was both her greatest greatest gift and flaw. She pushes so hard to know things-then regrets when the truth is revealed.

The romantic love triangle is still strong and though it seems Mo has made her choice, I have a feeling that nothing is set in stone. Ms. O’Rourke cranks up the emotional drama as both Colin and Luc try to push Mo towards the path of their choosing. I will admit, I’m team Luc. Even though he makes a choice in here that could end it all, I feel that she would be happiest with him. But, she still feels his attraction is only based on the prophecy and that she, as person, doesn’t matter. I’m still not sure about Colin. I don’t feel he’s being honest in his feelings for Mo and the chemistry between them feels off. It feels forced. There is more to him than we know and the secrets that Mo has uncovered about him play a far larger role in his feelings and actions towards her. I don’t want to spoil so I will leave it at that.

The ending wraps up the main conflict in a dramatic fashion while leaving us with unanswered questions and uneasy subplots. I look forward to seeing how Ms. O’Rourke ends this mysterious and suspenseful saga. The final book in this trilogy, Unbound, releases October 12, 2012.

Eh...this was kind of dissapointing, compared to the first book. Torn was awesome. I loved every page of it. I find it a very unique type of book that has magic, but without the witches and warlocks. So I was very excited to read Tangled. I did enjoy it – however, not as much as the first book.

The Good
- Like I said, I like the type of magic shown in this book, and the story just got even more intense.

- I really like the romance here...which is a love triangle. I only like love triangles that actually make sense, and the author managed to make this one good. Usually it’s pretty obvious whom the main character will end up with, but I kept going back and forth between Luc and Colin.

The Bad
- The plot was a bit complicated. The book is suppose to be about Mo and how she’s the Vessel and is an important part to the magic, but this book seemed to focus more on the problems with Mo’s uncle and the Mob. I honestly didn’t want to read about the Mob or whatever was going on with her uncle. I thought that maybe they had something to do with the magic, but no. I didn’t like how we kept going back and forth between the two storylines. I wish the author focused more on the magic.

- I didn’t really feel compelled to read this book. While I couldn’t put down the first book, I sort of struggled with this one. I was excited at first, but it sort of deflated as I read. The complicated storyline didn’t help.

The in-Betweens
- While I like the magical element, it was so damn CONFUSING. I had this problem in the first book as well, but I let it go in hopes of the second book clearing things up. But it was even more confusing. There were too many terms, most of which I couldn’t even memorize. Every time I tried to pay attention and understand, I’d get lost. This is sad because I really wanted to understand everything.

The Characters
- I was so, so, SO disappointed in Mo. First of all, she was pretty bitchy and cranky throughout most of the novel. I understand that she was going through a lot, and the magic wasn’t helping either, but I didn’t like her attitude. She basically snapped at everyone who talked to her. She also lied quite a lot, which is ironic since she hates being lied to herself. But main thing that disappointed me was what she did, concerning Colin and his past. I get that she’s worried about him and wants to help him. I do. If I was going out with a guy who wouldn’t tell me anything about his past, I’d be angry as well. But she should’ve waited for him to tell her when he could. *shakes head* I am not happy with you, Mo. Not at all.

- Colin stayed pretty much the same, but it was interesting getting a glimpse into his past. His situation pretty much sucks. Unlike Mo, I wouldn’t have pushed him so hard about his past. I felt bad for the way she treated him.

- I’m on the fence about Luc. I mean, I like him, but I can see why Mo’s hesitant about being with him. However, I do think he’s a great guy, and I love his protectiveness over Mo.

Recommended?
It’s not as good as the first book, but you do get to learn a lot more about everything. I’d recommend it. But you should be prepared for Mo’s, er, temper problem.

Despite the negatives, I still very much like this series. I’m only hoping the next book is a lot better.

Constance started to keen as the air around us began to thrash and twist, the caustic scent of ozone burning my nose. As I watched, her dark gold hair began to lift and kick into knots. “I’m here. It’ll be okay.” It was the last thing I said before my best friend’s little sister went supernova in the second-floor girls’ bathroom, taking me with her.

A month ago, Mo Fitzgerald risked her life to stop an ancient prophecy and avenge her best friend’s murder. Now, she only wants to keep her loved one safe. But the magic – and the Chicago mob – have other plans.

Mysterious, green-eyed Luc is back, asking for help – and a second chance. Colin, her strongest protector, is hiding a shocking secret. And inside Constance, the magic is about to go terribly wrong. Tangled in a web of love and betrayal, Mo must choose between the life she’s dreamed of and the one she’s destined for.

Tangled, picks up a few months after the events at the Chicago Water Tower. Mo is trying to get back to normal but magic and trouble are never far behind. It turns out the magical world still needs her despite their disdain for her. In the normal “flat” world, she’s trying to understand her family secrets, a rival mob is after her and she's crushing on two different guys. All this and she still has to get into NYU. Oh the pressure!

I really enjoy this series mostly because it's intriguing to watch Mo balance two very different worlds and very different expectations. No matter how many times she may save the magical world, she still has to get to school and get decent grades. She has to answer to her mother and uncle, even if they are suspicious. There are very real repercussions she has to face no matter where she turns. Not that I enjoy watching someone suffer but it’s definitely a different take on the whole paranormal storyline.

When The Convenant comes back to demand her help, Mo takes a stand and demands something as well. She's determined to have some control of her life and is still reluctant to adopt Luc's view that it's their fate to be together and protect the magical world. While she's fighting fate, she's also working her way through everyone's secrets – her mother's, uncle's, father's and Colin's. Mo deciphering her family politics is hazardous undertaking. At times she's in over her head and she makes some knucklehead moves. Then there are others when she actually gets the upper hand though it's short lived. But I have to hand it to Mo. The crap she goes through would do anyone's head in but she still manages to hold it together.

Mo's romantic triangle continues. Luc is a great comic relief, especially when things gets pretty serious but Colin is the guy you want to bring home to mom. So it's a good thing he's there a lot! While I'm not really sure myself who she should end up with, when it comes to Mo and Colin, I find the blurry line between that of protector and potential lover rather unsettling. But where my fellow BiblioJunkie Nat loves the nice boy, I loooove the bad boy. So I guess that means I'm Team Luc.

Tangled is a lot of fun to read and it was the perfect escape for me. There are quite a few creative twists involved which take things up a few notches. I'm looking forward to reading Bound that comes out June 26!

Tangled is full of intrigue. Mo, our heroine, is always in a crisis that she seemingly creates for herself. She is being chased by those in her world as well as by those in the world of the Arcs, the magic is killing her because of her apparent inability to mend the broken lines and she doubts herself endlessly. Mo cannot sort through her problems without first starting another and she's involved with a man that she cannot - no, wait - should not be with. This is only the beginning! Poor Mo is left to sort through her increasingly complicated life with only a few people that are willing to help hold her above water. However hair brained Mo seems, she manages to make the right decisions to get her goals accomplished. No longer a victim of obliging to everyone else's will, she is a strong-willed individual that let's nothing get in the way of what she wants.

There are so many obstacles placed before her, but Mo is determined to take everything in in her own stride. Each new task is presented with urgency by those wishing her to succumb to the instructions given, but Mo is absolutely headstrong and only does what she feels is most important at the time. Her friend, Lena, is a constant companion throughout the story and she leaves me wondering what secrets she has of her own! The Kowalski girl is an annoyance until about the middle of her role, when Mo realizes that she is more valuable than she seems. We still do not know by the end of the story if the Kowalski girl is friend or foe, but she does offer a glimpse at Mo's family's true nature that cannot be ignored. Luc is still a factor in the story, but not as strong as in the first book. He truly loves Mo, but she is hurt by his arrogance. Colin, of course, is still Colin, which definitely seems to intrigue Mo as she struggles to come to grips with his past. When Mo learns of her father returning from prison, her emotional state fluctuates and causes her physical symptoms from the magic to get seemingly worse.

I enjoyed reading this book, but it did frustrate me! How one person could go through so much without snapping is beyond my understanding. I cannot wait until the completion of this series as it was so entertaining to read. The story has just enough magic and just enough reality to keep you grounded. This particular part of the series seemed to be more well written than the first, but not so much as to jump outside of the realm of what is common for this genre. It is refreshing to have a novelist "grow up" with the characters, whether or not it is intentional. It reminds me of the writing style changes that we see in the Harry Potter books from J.K. Rowling. She started with the writing style of an immature eleven-year-old to a much more wizened character at the end. This is exactly how Ms. O'Rourke progresses, but from the mind of an immature and selfish teenager to a less immature young adult that knows how to get what she wants and needs. Well done.

I received this book in a giveaway provided by Goodreads.com. I was not paid or obligated to submit a review and did so only based on my personal experiences with this book.

Magic, the Mob and midterms make for a deliciously addictive combination in Erica O’Rourke’s newest novel, “Tangled.” This second installment of the Torn series finds its headstrong heroine, Mo Fitzgerald, caught in the middle of several sinister plots, all before lunch period.

Mo is still grieving over the death of her best friend, Verity Grey, who happened to be an Arc, or magical person. More specifically, Verity was an Arc destined to restore balance to her wizard-like realm. When she was killed, Verity’s powers somehow transferred to Mo. Mo can’t actually perform magic, but she’s the only one who can stop an ancient prophecy from happening. Even though she risked her life to do that, something is now wrong with the magic, and Mo is the only one who can fix it.

Then there are her human troubles. Mo’s father is due to be released from prison, and everyone but Mo is excited about it. After all, he’s been locked up for the past twelve years for money laundering and fraud, leaving her and her mother on their own. Unless of course you count her mobster uncle’s interference/protection. Her mom may bow down to him, but Mo certainly won’t, especially since his mafia connections now mean there’s a target on Mo’s back.

But all that is nothing compared to Mo’s boy trouble. She’s crazy about her bodyguard Colin, yet his loyalty to her uncle prevents them from ever having a future, at least one where Colin is still in one piece anyway. And then there’s Luc, Mo’s mysterious soul mate, the guy she’s fated to be with in the magic realm. Both are dangerous, gorgeous and irresistible.

It’s rough when two guys are fighting over you as you try to save the world and not get expelled from school, but Mo manages. Like other novels in the post-Twilight YA fantasy genre, we’re dealing with a flawed protagonist trying to balance her own needs and wants against that of the greater good. There’s the usual “end of the world” issue which is naturally complicated by the main character’s love life. However formulaic, “Tangled” still makes for a page-turning read you’ll easily devour in one sitting.

Here’s why: If you overlook the major figments of the author’s imagination (whether magic, mafia or both is up to you), you’re left with a dynamic roster of internally conflicted characters you can’t help but relate to. Each one’s personal agenda adds to the mounting tension, building towards an explosive climax where not everything is resolved. On the contrary, it just puts Mo in deeper entanglements as the title suggests. And that’s exactly what keeps the reader riveted from start to finish as we all eagerly await the conclusion.

Despite the fact that this is the second book in the series, it can stand alone. Of course, after you turn the last page you’ll probably want to get your hands on a copy of “Torn” in order to see how it all began, but it’s easy to keep up with the action regardless. So if you’re looking for an exciting new YA fantasy adventure to become immersed in, I would definitely recommend Erica O’Rourke’s “Tangled.”

Tangled was a hard book to get through, not that I didn't enjoy it. This book focused on the actions and consequences that faces Mo after her actions in the first book Torn. While that sounds fun and all, it moved rather slow, and I found myself questioning the speed, of this book. Tangled tested the characters, and pushed the boundaries of Mo. This book overall wasn't as great as the first, but provided a closure to the actions and

I found that Mo in this book was trying to choose her path, and make her way through a world she wasn't used to. In the beginning she's trying to live a normal life, and Constance seems to shatter that in a moments notice. As well, Luc enters the picture again, to help Constance and convince Mo that the magic world still needs her. However, Mo continues her relationship with Colin, and keeps him in the dark about the whole world, and the magic she's forced back into.

Mo's facing the consequences of her actions over and over, and they get harder and harder. Having killed Constance's relative, Mo feels she needs to look after her. However Constance believes Mo is letting on more than what she is, and pushes Mo further and further. Mo doesn't right come out and tell her the truth, hoping that she'll understand and while I understand why Mo is doing what she is, it really doesn't make any sense. Colin even admits it once, saying that it won't end well. So why does Mo hide behind a lie?

As well, she leave Colin in the dust about the whole magic world nearly entirely throughout the book, and while he is concerned for her, he never questions her or asks to go along. Personally if I was Colin, I would go with her, and there wouldn't be a real option or argument. I would want to be there, and yet that never happens, Colin starts to show his weak side, and becomes more of a pansy in this book than the previous and it aggravated me thoroughly.

Than the one thing I was hoping to see in the first book happened. Mo's uncle finally catches up to her with the introduction of the Mob. Since she failed to identify the men in the first book, her life is at risk. And rightly the plot thickens when her house is invaded, and for the only time in the book, Colin shows his colors. I loved Colin in that moment, and wished there was more of his selflessness and righteous heart to show more of.

The other characters were normal, her mother who cleans whenever something isn't going as right as it should be. But the best part of this book was the fact that Mo transformed thoroughly through this book. In Torn Mo was just a girl who went about her life and things happened to her; to in Tangled Mo is this girl of action and makes her own path. Her transformation took the cake in this book, just the rest needed more work and fine tuning. The last book in the series, will be coming sometime, I need to get around to finishing the series.

Title: Tangled (Torn Trilogy #2)
Author: Erica O’Rourke
Publisher: Kensington
Number of Pages: 313
Date of Release: January 31st, 2012
Summary From Goodreads:

Constance started to keen as the air around us began to thrash and twist, the caustic scent of ozone burning my nose. As I watched, her dark gold hair began to lift and kink into knots.

“I’m here. It’ll be okay.” It was the last thing I said before my best friend’s little sister went supernova in the second-floor girls’ bathroom, taking me with her.

A month ago, Mo Fitzgerald risked her life to stop an ancient prophecy and avenge her best friend's murder. Now, she only wants to keep her loved ones safe. But the magic—and the Chicago Mob—have other plans.

Mysterious, green-eyed Luc is back, asking for help—and a second chance. Colin, her strongest protector, is hiding a shocking secret. And inside Constance, the magic is about to go terribly wrong. Tangled in a web of love and betrayal, Mo must choose between the life she's dreamed of and the one she's destined for.

Review: I took so long to review Tangled, because to put it simply I was having withdrawals from the brilliantness this novel is! I probably will start sounding completely incoherent as I start explaining, I just loved this book so much. On a side note the cover is brilliant and I loved having the “aha” moment when reading and I realized where the title came from. Erica O’Rourke has created another stunning masterpiece fans of Torn will eat up!

Mo is one of my favorite characters of all time. I like how she tests her limits and is able to stand on her own. I’m a sucker for strong heroines and this trilogy has one of the best in the genre. We get a lot more background info on Mo’s life in this novel and the way it is delivered is not boring at all. In fact it’s downright shocking. My jaw hit the floor so many times, I can’t even begin to tell how you how shocked I was. The triangle between Collin, Luc and Mo is in my opinion done so well all naysayers of the love triangle need to take a step back and read this book and revaluate that opinion. I truly still feel Torn between the two guys, both have mysterious pasts that are beginning to be revealed and like Mo I trust both.

If you haven’t figured this out yet, this trilogy is my favorite of all time. It has something to do with the paranormal elements and the Chicago Mob elements in Mo’s life that just work so well. The two don’t seem like they would go together, but they absolutely do. The last page of the book had me screaming SHUT THE FRONT DOOR. I swear my mum thought I was demented. If you haven’t read Torn do it right away and pick up Tangled while you’re at it, trust me I’m doing you a favor with that suggestion. Also go ahead and read my review of Torn that can be found in the Review Archive if you need even more persuading. Fans of Torn already will not be disappointed and will be like me waiting for the final installments release!!!

Meine Meinung

The second book in the Torn trilogy finds Mo settling back into her old life - her life before magic, prophecies, darklings (shadowy, evil magical creatures) and the mysterious Luc. Mo is doing her best to pick up the pieces of her life but it's not long before she's pulled back into Luc's world. Mo agrees to a Covenant with the heads of the Arcs (magic-users) in exchange for her dead best friend's younger sister - Constance recieving help and training after she begins to manifest uncontrollable powers.
The premise of the series is great Mo, an ordinary teenager is thrown into the magical world after Verity, her best friend - who unbeknownst to her is an Arc - is killed protecting her from darklings. Verity's sacrifice somehow bestows Mo with some of her powers. Mo soon finds out that Verity was no ordinary Arc, Verity was one of the two prophesised Arcs that would fix magic..the other being Luc. Mo is shouldered with fulfilling the prophecy meant for Verity.
I liked Mo - she was relatable, clever and compassionate. Mo had a lot of challenges - her mob uncle pressurising her to frame his enemies for Verity's death.. her bodyguard and crush Colin keeping secrets and acting hot&cold with her.. Constance blaming her for Verity's death.. her mum nagging her to visit her dad in prison.. her uncles enemies targeting her.. Luc and the Arcs manipulating and using her for their own benefits irregardless of Mo's well being.
Naturally, Mo on top of everything else is having boy problems. She's drawn to Luc who she's bound to out of necessity and she has a huge crush on her brooding, protective, very human bodyguard Colin. Luc seems to only want Mo because he believes it's fate. It's clear Luc's loyalties lie with the Arcs and he proves this by betraying Mo in a serious way. Mo has a real connection with Colin but their relationship is no less complicated than the relationship she shares with Luc. Colin is keeping secrets from her and Mo's uncle has forbidden Colin from dating her. Luc and Colin respectively represent fate and choice..Is fated love true or is falling in love naturally truer?
Fated love in YA/PR/UF is very popular and seems to always come out on top.. personally I don't find fated love very romantic or endearing. Colin I feel is the far better option.
I've always been bothered that Luc would hit on his dead girlfriend's best friend so soon after her death..and if Luc and Mo do end up together there's always the question that had Verity not died..would he have even been interested in Mo?? Verity was his destined partner, he seemed to care and love Verity and she was an Arc like him..so it's hard to believe he would have ever fell for Mo if Verity was still in the picture.

Tangled by Erica O’Rourke
YA Paranormal Romance- Jan. 31st, 2012
4 stars

Tangled is the second in the YA paranormal series about witches called ARCs.

In the last book Torn, Mo Fitzgerald discovered that her best friend, Verity was an ARC. However, she was unable to save Verity from her evil aunt. Depressed and feared, Mo is now an outcast at her high school. Verity’s younger sister, Constance hates her but is now coming into her ARC powers and is distrustful of Mo and does not believe she is gaining magical powers. But without guidance, Constance will probably die. So Mo enlists the aid of Luc, the ARC foretold to mate with her. While Mo is attracted to Luc, she questions his real intentions and since she is actually a Flat- person without any magical powers, she is disdained by the ARC community. In addition, her uncle’s ties to a mob boss make Mo’s life uncertain as she is threatened by shifting powers in the area. Worse, she is troubled by her soon to be released father who is a felon and left her family to fend for themselves. Not only that, her mob bodyguard, Colin is hiding things...But even with her life in turmoil she knows that Constance uncontrolled powers will harm her. To save Constance, Mo signs a finding contract with the ARCs since she has mysterious abilities with the unstable raw power which they use. But if she fails to stabilize it, is her death.

This is a very complex story, it can be read having not read the first book but I think it will take a while to orient the reader and the death of Verity plays a large part in this story. Mo is a very likeable and down to earth character. In contrast, Constance is a very annoying and irritating character that I really wished had not been in the book even though it drove much of the story. The book is and bridging book in the series as Mo's mysterious father returns and the mob is a heavy presence around her family which on creates more danger. The love triangle between Lucas, Colin and Mo causes a lot of tension as Mo is uncertain about either. Colin refuses to tell her about his shady past and Luc says he cares for her but his loyalties to the ARCs seem very strong. There are many twists and turns, betrayals and hidden agendas especially concerning the mob.

Those who enjoy a thrilling storyline filled with surprises and the paranormal will enjoy this series but I strongly suggest reading the first book beforehand.

Mo isn't quite who she used to be. On the outside she still looks like the same girl but on the inside she is growing and becoming so much more than all of that. Even though she thought she had done all she could and has fulfilled what was expected of her she can't just go back to her life. I mean she can't just become who she was when she just isn't that girl any more.

This book left me torn and conflicted in so many ways it is NUTS! Not in a bad way, I really enjoyed this read. Unlike the first I felt like this one just took off but the decisions that Mo makes and the things that she has to go through are way more intense. To help the ARCs or not? To dig up Colin's past or not? Ya sure they seem like little things but when you factor in the life altering out comes of the choices that Mo makes they really aren't.

I really enjoyed Mo more this book than the last one. I wouldn't exactly call her a whiner because she has no fear stepping forth to do what she feels right but she had a lot of inner moments. However she is really starting to grow more and more. I know that is the point and a character must develop to continue the story but Mo is learning not everything is as it seems and by doing that becoming someone she wants to be not what others want her to be. The moment she decided she wasn't going stay hidden was absolutely the best thing she could have done.

The love in this book stayed once again kind of in the back ground. It is always there but it is not really the focus. Luc is still around and still believes fate has made it so that they are together but not being a big believer in fate Mo still doesn't really listen. Doesn't stop Luc from trying. The only one that Mo seems to have eyes for is Colin. They have their moments and even when she says she isn't interested there is always the thought of him in her mind. If I were to be honest I am still a TEAM COLIN girl!

This novel was a super example of a sequel gone horribly right!! The pace rocked, the character development was mind blowing and the story development itself was wonderful. For this being the second book in a series it really held its own. Normally I feel a little let down in second books but this one was so amazing I didn't want it to end! Not just because of how great it was but because I know how long my wait is until Bound comes out.

My Thoughts: I remember first seeing Torn and I was hesitant to read it, but once I did I enjoyed it a lot so when I heard there was going to be another book in the series, I was very excited.

In Tangled, we are back with Mo and her crazy life. She’s still divided between Colin and Luc. She’s still battling her uncle's business and her “other” business. Mo has a lot on her hands. She had to stop an evil prophecy and learn just how to deal with real life in the process. Now she’s out to save her best friend’s sister Constance (remember her best friend died?) and she has to start thinking about where her future is going to go. Is she going to go against her uncle and choose Colin or if she going to finally give in and get with Luc, she is after all betrothed to him.

Gosh, this book was an emotional ride. From the troubles with her family, her own personal struggles every time she went in between, and just seeing how much she clearly cares about both boys, its a roller coaster ride.

The plot is filled with so many different things, things twisted and turned when you least expected it. She kisses both boys when you start to think she’s going to end up with the opposite one, and she helps Constance in the process. And the fire, it made me cry a few tears! Very emotional!

Tangled is a very different kind of novel. The first part of the book I started to wonder if it was going to get better, or if anything major was going to happen, but just like with Torn, it all hits you at once and you look at the clock and it's the middle of the night.

Mo is such a likable character. Even though she’s stubborn, I can see myself being best friends with her and helping her out through her daily life.

Overall:This series is different, but in a good way. The characters are easy to get attached too. The plot sucks you in. And by the end, you’ll be rooting for both boys wishing she could just have them both. This series is one you should check out now!

Cover: I’m not thrilled with the covers but they are ok. I think that was the biggest problem with Torn. I didn’t read it soon enough because the cover didn’t catch my eye right off the bat. But, they are such good books!

What I’d Give It: 4/5 Cupcakes

n the second book of the Torn trilogy, Mo Fitzgerald is trying to get back to whatever normal life she can have. But it sure isn’t easy. Constance, Verity’s little sister, has just started developing her magic skills, but has no idea that it's even happening, so of course, cannot control what it does to herself and those around her. Mo has no choice but to call on Luc to come to the rescue. When he in turn asks for her help, she feels she cannot say no because she wants to help Constance and this is the only way she can do so. Even if it will ultimately cost her life.

Meanwhile the daughter of the detective that died during a magical episode in the last book is trying to blackmail Mo into giving her details about her Mob tied uncle Billy, and Mo doesn’t know if she should help her or not. When Mo finds out part of the truth that Colin is hiding from her (that her father is coming home from prison) her world seems to be out of control. The more Mo finds out about what her uncle is really doing, and what he's capable of, the more she tries to help Constance by being a part of a magical war. Trying to really find out if Colin feels the same about her pushes Mo over the edge. Can she figure out how to balance it all and help save those she loves from the Mob and the Magic that is surrounding her?

This was another great book. The characters left right off from the first book, so I suggest that you pick that one up before reading this one. It will help you understand the background to the story. I think that (again) the hidden details of this book make it special. There are things that are not quite ever said that help keep you reading to figure out, because you know that something is just not right about certain people and you can tell they are hiding things. I think that the bond between Mo and the two young men in her life is interesting. She is wanting so bad to have Colin, but cannot help being drawn to Luc when he is around. I really like the writing style as it is fluid and easy to follow. I think that this is a great high school or older read. An all-in-all great book. There is going to be one more book and I am anxious to see what is going to happen in the end.

Actual rating: 3.5 stars. In a fun twist of events, I think I actually liked this book more than Torn. Though my favorite thing is YA high fantasy with only the slightest hints of romance, I picked up this trilogy upon reading that Susan Dennard found it to have a compelling, believable, realistic love triangle. So in this case, I was looking for something different, and O'Rourke totally delivered.

Granted, I'll say this: if you didn't come into this book expecting a serious love triangle to be the main thing, you could get annoyed with all the romantic interludes and back and forth as Mo is finding reasons to choose first one, and then the other, guy. In my case, I didn't mind so much, because I have a feeling O'Rourke is grooming us for Luc, but I somehow still like Colin better. (This also happened to me, alas, with Clockwork Angel, where I liked both main love interests but still kind of leaned toward the one who I didn't think she'd really end up with.) Both Luc and Colin are definitely good guys, and they're also, neither of them, perfect for Mo. But anyway, I appreciated that, despite the leaning I feel O'Rourke has, she really bounces us back and forth and keeps revealing new information.

I do think it was kind of strange that Colin wasn't willing to reveal his past to Mo, though--felt like an almost exaggerated part of his character, and I hope that gets addressed in the last book.

Again, as with the first book, I liked the romance and the characters more than I cared for the world-building, especially as relates to the Arcs. But everything amps up here, which is definitely fun; lots going on with the Arcs, as well as the Mafia. Almost makes me wish O'Rourke wrote this book without the paranormal aspect, but of course that would still change this book considerably.

Either way, I enjoyed it, and I'm looking forward to reading the next book!
