I kind of like to think of myself as a normal lady living a semi normal life. I’m not sure that’s all that accurate; I have a sweet husband and two dogs-my girls- that I think of as my children. I grew up in Sonoma County, California and I never pictured myself moving. Funny because now I live in North Idaho and I love it here, I love the summers; camping, bar-b-ques with friends, and the farmers markets. I find the winter magical and love the snow. I started writing as a hobby. I’ve been one of those people who has been obsessed with the world of the paranormal for as long as I can remember. I self published my first book in August of 2011 at my husbands’ urging.
Sophia’s story was truly meant for me at the beginning. Now I love that I chose to share these characters with everyone who’s chosen to read about them. I love these characters. They hold a special part of me and represent the strength and knowledge that comes with never giving up. of course I’m biased.
As for me personally, I’m not one who ever really shared much of my own story, however not long ago I finally shared my story with the fans who followed my Facebook page Magen McMinimy Author Page so I figure my story is out there for the world to read so I might as well share it here . . .
Like I said I grew up in California, I was born in Santa Rosa, Ca on April 19th 1983, I had a simple and pretty good childhood with a rather great family. I have wonderful parents and a pretty great sister( I didn’t always think so as I was growing up, but now I know the simple pleasures of having a sister as my best friend, she also gave me my nephew Asher who I adore). When I was nine I was diagnosed with Sarcoidosis, I was fortunate enough that it didn’t affect any of my major organs, but on the flip side of that it was in my eyes.
When I was around the age of twelve, I was given the diagnosis of secondary glaucoma. At thirteen I had my first in a fairly long line of surgeries to help control the pressures and remove the cataracts in my eyes.
When I turned twenty-one I took the first step of a major life change and moved to Coeur d’Alene, Idaho. I left a lot of amazing friends and an amazing extended family. I met my now husband a few months after the move and was married to him in June of 2006. In 2008 I finished college and became a wedding planner. I love a good party and I live to decorate and make things beautiful and amazing for those around me.
In April of 2010 I woke up one morning with no vision in my right eye, I got an appointment with a specialist and found out I had blood vessels growing in the back of my eye that led to nowhere and were steadily bleeding. I underwent treatments and we got the bleeding under control and eventually stopped completely. But not before some major damage had been done. My doctor got me on the road to getting some help and I work each day with a small amount of remaining vision in my left eye.
So why do I tell you all of this? I tell you all because this is who I am, and those of you taking the time to read this have probably read at least one of my books and because of that you’ve helped to make this dream of writing and reaching out to others who love books, and vampires, and shifters and all things gorgeous and sexy . . . come true!
Life is a constant balance of what we want and what we need. It's also a lot like a Battle. A battle that we all have to fight in our own way. I chose to try and love and cherish every minute that I get to chase my crazy dreams and create a world and characters to get lost in.
This book was another great book. It also had parts that seriously made me cry and want to reach into the story and comfort Bryn and beat the shit out of the man who hurt her. She is such a sweet girl, and it shows until closer to the end of the book.
If you all recall, I wasn’t very fond of Ash in the beginning of the series. I thought he was an arrogant ass, but this book shows a side of him that you hoped he held, and were thrilled to see. By the end of the book, I was so in love with the man. He ended up being devoted, and brought to his knees by his “little witch”.
I think that the drama that unfolded in this book wasn’t as surprising because I thought some of Bryn’s coven was shady.
This one is a little harder for me to review because, yes, it was another great read, and actually I think it was my favorite, I don’t want to give anything crucial away. So what I’ll do is add a couple excerpts that I liked, and explain why I chose them.
The first excerpt:
“She couldn’t help but smile as she looked at that beautiful and smug face. She’d missed seeing it every day, but in this past week she’d been reminded of what a danger Ash was to her; she knew better than to spend any extra time with him, even if that was all she wanted. “I don’t know Ash; your date is headed this way.” Ash turned to where Bryn could only see his profile; he smiled as Blair approached and Bryn used that moment to make her escape.”
The reason this part is important is because it shows Bryn’s feeling without really saying then. Also shows her fear of those feelings. I think just about everyone at some point in their lives can relate to this feeling. The fear, nerves, and need to run.
The second excerpt:
“It was the first time in six months that they’d been around each other, but she kept her distance. And this past week on the island as they rehearsed and prepared for the wedding she had avoided him, always keeping a good ten feet between them, and if she could, at least two people. Ash was not one who lacked confidence, but Bryn was throwing him off.”
A man’s vulnerability and insecurity, need I say more? For most of the scenes of Ash in the books, he is always confident and almost cocky, here he shows more and lets you really see a different side of him, and all it took was one Witch. It shows that every man has a soft side even if he never allows others to see it, until that one person makes him want to.
The final excerpt:
“What is she doing here?” Ash muttered, a light excitement infusing his body. “Whatever she’s here for, it isn’t good.” Tavian narrowed his eyes. “Why would say that?” Rachel asked. “Because we can all smell it luv. Something’s got her good and scared,” Dante said gravely. “I got this,” Ash said as he caught Bryn’s gaze and headed towards her.
This one I just liked. More of the cocky Ash coming out to play, but not in an annoying way. He was just as surprised to see Bryn as she was him. It’s a great way to bring them back together.
Like the others I highly recommend this whole series, you’re going to love Ash and Bryn’s story.
The sixth book of the Half-Blood princess will bewitch you with its story of the continuing battle between good and evil involving Sophia and her friends.
The author continues to focus the story on the plot of the book with the romance supporting the plot. The love scenes are still sizzling while remaining well written and tastefully done.
This story is fast paced and is more active than the last one, so be prepared to finish the story before you put it down. As a new front on the battle scene emerges, the plot grabs your attention and refuses to let you go.
While the book has a couple of violent scenes, violent the author has achieved getting the violence across without being graphic or tasteless. I was very impressed with one really violent scene that had the potential to be nasty. The author kept the intensity of the scene without being excessively graphic.
There were a couple of minor grammatical errors that get lost in the story. Overall this book is a fascinating addition to the Half-Blood Princess series.
This story is one that you will quickly pick up and finish before you even realize.
Starting with a wonderful wedding and quickly picking up a new love story. This story follows Bryn who is quickly attacked by a werewolf and Ash who is the last Vampire around without prior engagements.
Ash decides to become Bryn's protector and takes her to the local werewolves to find out why they are after her.
The relationships are engaging and everything is passionate and engaging while being tactful. There is an encounter with violence and violation that is shocking but done in a way that does not make you squeamish.
Overall this story pulls together more of characters and their relationships while building on the ones you already know about. This story shows normal everyday emotions and how detrimental or helpful they can be to everyone around you.
The Witch’s Mark is the sixth installment in Author Magen McMinimy’s Half-Blood Princess series, and just as its predecessor stars two characters that were side-lined in previous novels.
Bryn, the youngest witch of her coven and daughter of its leader, is the central character of this book. It all starts when she believes she’s being chased by a mysterious werewolf and she runs to Maldera Springs hoping to find help. She finds it, and more, when Ash promises to protect her. Unbeknownst to either of them, there’s more to the strange werewolf and his mission than they could have ever imagined, and it will change them both forever.
I must say I was particularly excited to read this one, as it finally formally introduces the werewolves of the series. Just as I expected, Miss McMinimy does not disappoint with her portrayal of the lunar creatures. Although, that excitement quickly became shock as the story unfolded and an atrocious act is committed by the wolves towards Bryn. I honestly could not believe it had happened, and the aftermath drives the story into a whole new level of dramatic. I applaud the author in being able to create such a shocking and passionate entry into what has become one of my favorite series around. Congrats Magen, you’ve hooked me!
This book tells the story of Bryn and Ash. Bryn is a wiccan witch that has fought on the side of good and light with Sophia and the rest of the clan. Ash is Sophia's ex and Sage's brother. He has been a playboy and is cocky as ever but he is different now and secretly in love with Bryn. Something tragic happens to her and she is left feeling lost, destroyed and empty. However Bryn is strong and has a heart of gold and sets out to do what some people wouldn't. Along her journey she never expects Ash to stand by her and support her but that's exactly what he does. Ash finds out that someone is out to get Bryn and finally uncovers the person who made that tragedy happen. Bryn is shocked but it just further proves that Ash is the man for her and that her life will forever be changed.
Wow, what to say about Bryn and Ash's story...Amazing and parts are heart wrenching. The things that Bryn goes through, I'm surprised that she didn't break from it all. She is an amazingly strong woman. Ash has done a complete 360 since the very first book, my first impression of him was totally wrong. He is loving and caring and would do anything to protect the ones he loves, including Bryn. Bryn has to overcome some major set backs, including betrayal from someone she knows well. Was not expecting what happened, to happen.
