I kind of like to think of myself as a normal lady living a semi normal life. I’m not sure that’s all that accurate; I have a sweet husband and two dogs-my girls- that I think of as my children. I grew up in Sonoma County, California and I never pictured myself moving. Funny because now I live in North Idaho and I love it here, I love the summers; camping, bar-b-ques with friends, and the farmers markets. I find the winter magical and love the snow. I started writing as a hobby. I’ve been one of those people who has been obsessed with the world of the paranormal for as long as I can remember. I self published my first book in August of 2011 at my husbands’ urging.
Sophia’s story was truly meant for me at the beginning. Now I love that I chose to share these characters with everyone who’s chosen to read about them. I love these characters. They hold a special part of me and represent the strength and knowledge that comes with never giving up. of course I’m biased.
As for me personally, I’m not one who ever really shared much of my own story, however not long ago I finally shared my story with the fans who followed my Facebook page Magen McMinimy Author Page so I figure my story is out there for the world to read so I might as well share it here . . .
Like I said I grew up in California, I was born in Santa Rosa, Ca on April 19th 1983, I had a simple and pretty good childhood with a rather great family. I have wonderful parents and a pretty great sister( I didn’t always think so as I was growing up, but now I know the simple pleasures of having a sister as my best friend, she also gave me my nephew Asher who I adore). When I was nine I was diagnosed with Sarcoidosis, I was fortunate enough that it didn’t affect any of my major organs, but on the flip side of that it was in my eyes.
When I was around the age of twelve, I was given the diagnosis of secondary glaucoma. At thirteen I had my first in a fairly long line of surgeries to help control the pressures and remove the cataracts in my eyes.
When I turned twenty-one I took the first step of a major life change and moved to Coeur d’Alene, Idaho. I left a lot of amazing friends and an amazing extended family. I met my now husband a few months after the move and was married to him in June of 2006. In 2008 I finished college and became a wedding planner. I love a good party and I live to decorate and make things beautiful and amazing for those around me.
In April of 2010 I woke up one morning with no vision in my right eye, I got an appointment with a specialist and found out I had blood vessels growing in the back of my eye that led to nowhere and were steadily bleeding. I underwent treatments and we got the bleeding under control and eventually stopped completely. But not before some major damage had been done. My doctor got me on the road to getting some help and I work each day with a small amount of remaining vision in my left eye.
So why do I tell you all of this? I tell you all because this is who I am, and those of you taking the time to read this have probably read at least one of my books and because of that you’ve helped to make this dream of writing and reaching out to others who love books, and vampires, and shifters and all things gorgeous and sexy . . . come true!
Life is a constant balance of what we want and what we need. It's also a lot like a Battle. A battle that we all have to fight in our own way. I chose to try and love and cherish every minute that I get to chase my crazy dreams and create a world and characters to get lost in.
The seventh book in the Half-Blood Princess series skips a few years ahead in the lives of Sophia and her friends. The story continues to be intriguing with each character and their evolving destinies.
The budding romance between Ashlyn and Tavian is the main focus of this book of the series. And the romance is a laid back and gentle kind of romance, the kind that is sweet, endearing and lasting. I found myself falling in love with the couple and believing in fairy tales.
In the continuing saga of the vampires and their future, the plot has more suspense than action in this story and continues to engage you with the addition of another special paranormal character.
The author speeds up time to bring us to this chapter of the saga. This is an interesting way to bring in all the characters of the prophecy. The only drawback I found to this story is it was too short and I wish I could have spent a little more time with Ashlyn and Tavian.
I am looking forward to reading the eighth book in the Half-Blood Princess and I am very curious to see if the new paranormal character will be involved in the future of the series.
Bound by Destiny is the second book in The Guardians, and the seventh book in the Half-Blood Princess series by author Magen McMinimy. In this book stars one of my favorite characters of the series, Tavian Baikov. I’ve been waiting to read more about him since the end of the fifth book, and I surely wasn’t disappointed!
Tavian is struggling to come to grips with his destiny. Being presented a piece of parchment that basically tells you your future isn’t something you easily swallow, especially when it says you’ll find an “epic love.” He tries to avoid the prophecy as much as possible whilst away in Europe for two years, but when he returns to Maldera Springs he has no choice but to embrace it when Ashlyn, the daughter of the Half-Blood Princess, calls for his aid when her friend goes missing.
Faced with his destiny and with a prospect of new, everlasting love, Tavian has a lot on his hands in this installment of Magen McMinimy’s epic series.
I really did enjoy this book, especially since it was about Tavian. I’ve said before how he was one of my favorites from the beginning, and I was glad to see him in action after a while of the focus being away from him. I love author Magen McMinimy’s ability to create such unique characters, each with their own personalities and voices. With such a long series and an expansive world, it’s easy to make carbon copies of previous characters, but Magen triumphs in making original characters left and right. I’m sincerely impressed with her writing prowess, happy to have been given a chance to read this series, and look forward to more!
This book has one of my favorite male characters, oh who am I kidding I love all the male characters. Haha, but seriously, Tavian is the one I felt emotionally attached to. He is angry and unhappy at the beginning, but he learns he has a destiny to follow and it includes the most unexpected person. Ashlyn. Now if you have read this far, you know she is Sophia’s daughter, twin to Andre.
Tavian being an old vampire, who was there when Ashlyn was born, and sees her grow up pretty much shuns the idea that she is his destiny. Even with fighting it, he can’t deny his feelings towards her, and when she calls him for help he doesn’t think twice before jumping on a plane and going to her. He would do anything for her. There love begins to bloom, even though she is in denial just as much as he, but not because she feels it’s wrong per say, but because of who he is: Her mother’s Guardian.
Once they finally stop fighting things they become a couple and work together to solve the murder of someone close to her. I am just glad he found his happy ending. After being possessed and losing Sarah, he had a hard time dealing with his life. He focused on training and working for the head hauncho, Cain. It’s an emotional ride that yet again keeps you wanting more.
This story is all about a prophecy and how it can affect so many different people and in so many different ways. This story is more suspenseful than any of the others but it is a wonderful change. This story follows Tavian and Ashlyn and is a much more tender love. While it does skip ahead a couple of year those years are summed up in a way that you don't feel like you missed anything important. I did feel like this one could have been longer and would have loved to see more of their relationship and the dynamic of the other characters dealing with the prophecy.
Tavien has been haunted by the possession that made him attack Sarah and Sophia. After being gone for two years he finally has come home to face the details of the prophecy. Ashlyn graduates and goes to New York to get her best friend settled in for college. While there her best friend goes missing and the only person Ashlyn can call is Tavien. She doesn't want her parents to find out and so Tavien agrees to help look for her. Along the way the find that they are attracted to each other and through sadness and tragedy they are pulled together. What evil is lurking around the corner and will they be able to reach her in time? Find out!
Tavian is such a great character. The prophecy about him is finally happening. Ashlyn is now 18 (even though the twins were only born 6 years ago). Mel and Ashlyn go to New York before Mel starts school. Crazy things happen. Ashley calls Tavian, he comes to her. Things get crazier from there. Tavian has always been one of my favorites in this series. Mel also gets a few surprises in this book and not all are good.
Interesting turns in this one. I thought it would be weird when I first realized what was going on, but it wasn't. It was executed nicely and I really enjoy this pair together.
