The Springfest Sprint

Rate this book
Tradition can really put a damper on wanderlust.

Ember has come of seelie age, however, the spirited heir of the Spring Fae Court hasn't chosen a mate yet. Per the court's ancient custom, it's time for her to run the Springfest Sprint! The males are ready to claim their mates, and many have their sights on the elusive princess. But she's got a plan...

Hide until this nonsense is over.

It's not foolproof or typical of the feisty fae, but it’s better than getting bound to a terrible kisser, a pompous bragger, or really… anyone. When she runs into a male who ruins her hiding spot, she has to decide if he's an enemy or ally.

Thank you for NetGalley for providing me with a copy of the ebook arc.

I AM IN LOVE. I did not expect this to be so fucking good. If you read fairy books as a kid and loved it, this is for you. I will reread this and read anything the author publishes now. Some of the dialogue was a bit cringey but overall it was so much fun and I loved it. I laughed and enjoyed myself immensely. Go read it.

I bought the ebook btw bc damn I gotta support this author!

I don’t know what it is about spicy romance books that makes me imagine Henry Cavill as every love interest MMC ever… but I’m totally here for it.

“His features are pale and chiseled – hauntingly sexy”

I will die on the hill that Henry is perfect as every MMC ever.

This little Novella… man it was not what I was expecting! So far, my only gripe is that it wasn’t long enough. I got through it in about 40 minutes and instantly wanted more! It’s got everything you could imagine in a fairy novel.. wings, magic, a hot love interest, traditions… what a novella it was.

Georgie Monroe did a great job creating this little world! The flow and story line was smooth and interesting, the plot was good and easy to follow, and the characters were great. Even though it was a shorter book, it wasn’t hard to know what was going on. There were some twists and turns that made it a fun read. Georgie’s descriptions and portrayals of the places in the book (you, dear reader, know how important this is to me) are well written.

“Winding through the maze of boulders is far easier than running and every sound-from seed pods clacking together to cricket chirps-bounces off the stone, echoing a sweet song of aloneness.”

The romance was a little quick, but again – this is a novella and meant to be a quick read – and the characters are Fae (seelie and unseelie) so you expect them to be quick to love and … well quick to other stuff too!

The spice on this one – man it was good. 5/5 on the spice scale. 4/5 stars.

If you are looking for a quick, spicy, fantasy read – pick this up! It will be available on June 23rd. For more information visit the author’s website

I received this novella as an ARC (thank you to Georgie) in exchange for my honest review. All opinions and thoughts are my own!

This is a fast sexy read. The Spring Court has chauvinistic practices which the MFC actively fights against. She finds an unexpected ally and romance while she's participating in the Springfest Sprint.

This is a cute fast read. Definitely would like more of this universe.

I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
FMC: Ember– the daughter of the Spring Fae queen and of age to perform in the Springfest Sprint, Ember must run and hide if she doesn’t want to be claimed in the rite. While hiding she comes across an unlikely advisory who might help her get out of this alive.
MMC: Typhon– an unseelie who finds himself alone in a cave with a tiny spring fae girl who is hiding from a mating ceremony. Is he the only one feeling the irresistible pull toward her? Is he willing to risk it all to have her to himself?
POV: 1st person, dual POV
HEA: yes with 2 bonus epilogues
spice: several open-door spicy scenes
TWs: attempted SA, assault, forced mating,
standalone: yes, book 1 in Faetales series (unreleased)
final thoughts: wow this novella was such a quick and awesome read. I wanted more and more! I loved the insta-lust from both parties and the strength of both MCs that was quickly made apparent in such a short book. Great world building that can definitely be turned into a novel. Loved the epilogue with some group scenes… if you catch my drift

Let’s start off with the obvious. That cover! Ugh probably one of my all time favorite covers. I love anything Fae and this cover doesn’t disappoint.

When she runs into a male who ruins her hiding spot, she has to decide if he's an enemy or ally.
Anyone who knows me knows how much I love strong female characters with a wit that leaves you whiplashed. Ember for sure is a character like that who just wants to control her own destiny. I think we all can relate. And oh Typhon is for sure a hot as sin character that makes me want to hang out with the unseelie. And their interactions for sure know how to steam up a room.
For sure a short naughty book but for sure interested in seeing how this world unfurls.

Thanks to NetGalley for a ARC in exchange for a honest review!

I needed 3o0 more pages of this, I couldn't put it down!

Normally I shy away from instalove but this was done so well the chemistry between Ty and Ember was undeniable. Fans of steamy fae romance, confined quarters, mate bonds and a feisty flirty pair of MCs will not be disappointed. I appreciated the quality of the writing which felt lyrical and smooth and the storyline was just enough to get me hooked from start to finish.

I will definitely be continuing on in the series. Thank you to the author and Booksirens for providing a free digital copy in exchange for an honest review.

This is a dark fantasy fae romance novella and I didn't want the story to end as I was really getting into the world building and the magical powers and societal dynamics of it all.

I'm not used to reading books that spell out trigger warnings at the start, but I think this is a
wonderful sign of the modern times, allowing people to be safe and opt out of content that would make them uncomfortable.

If you enjoyed The Cruel Prince and the ACOTAR series, I think you'll also fervently enjoy this one! This was a pleasant distraction! Adored the strong female main character, she's resourceful and certainly no pushover.

First of all, a massive thank you to NetGalley for the ebook arc.

Now on to the good stuff.
This book drew me in with its cover. What can I say? I judge books by their cover.
The description was the secondary indicator that this story was right up my alley and it did not disappoint.
This story was funny, fast-paced, and highly entertaining.
Forbidden romance? Check
Fairy smut? Check
Witty banter? Check
Does the story feel a little rushed at times? Yes, but seeing as it is such a short little novel, I really can't complain.
I'm now a Georgie Monroe fan and will be keeping my eye out for further releases.
Looking forward to following and seeing more of Donovan in the future!!

This is the perfect little snack to read as an in betweener or maybe something super quick and fun to get you out of a reading slump.

Ember was such a bada$s. But as soon as she met Ty, she knew she wouldn't be the same. Ty was determined to have her & with the help of Donovan (🥵🥵🥵) welll... You'll see 😈

10/10 would recommend this spicy Fae-tale 🥵🥵🥵

Seelies and Unseelies, I love it.

There's so much sass from Ember, she's amazing.

There are a few triggers in this book. There's a forced bonding/mating event, sexual descriptions, assault situations (not from MMC, just from side characters that believe their dick is God's gift ~ ew)

The Springfest Sprint is a mating tradition/cultural sprint of the seelies where the hunted are to run and hide until they are conquered by the hunters or until the hunt is over. Why do they do this? Tradition. Culture.

"I get it, unfortunately. We need children and if we're bound, we're more likely to go into heat and produce the next generations to defend our borders. But still." ~ Ember

Throughout this sprint, everytime a hunter tackled and tried to conquer her, I felt this digust/repulsive feeling in my gut. The hunters didn't care that she didn't want them yet they still tried to which reminds me of real life. But Ember is strong. She fought them off and used her veto when she couldn't.

On another note, the unseelies traditions actually acknowledge the hunted rejections unlike the seelies.

Yes I know the it's part of the trigger warnings and I knew what I was getting myself into. Just stating my opinion on the matter.

That said. I really liked it. It's spicy and sassy.

Ember to her mom:

“Mamaw, if you break my wings, I’ll bite yours off.”

Got to love Ember.

The spice:

🌶🌶🌶

Em's bisexual 😍

And the MMC is all for group activity… if you catch my drift ;)

"Do you want more than one?”

“Why would I lock myself down to one when there are so many to explore? I’m not done yet.”

"I enjoyed being with her and am colder without her near me. That sass calls to me, as does the underlying vulnerability. And she didn’t balk as I talked of multiple partners; she came hard."

I've learnt from dark romance that if his nickname for you has tiny or little in it, he's about to own you. Body, mind and soul.

"There’s a hum in the dark, then a deep chuckle as I look around, trying to see into the shadows. “You look rather rough, tiny Fae.”"

"Her eyes are a light orange and flash lighter, almost yellow, when she gets huffy. What color are they when she comes?"

Okay, I'll stop before quote the entire book. Also, the dirty talk? Yum.

“Now the nickname Sunshine really does fit. You’re bright yellow.”

“If this is your version of wooing, you’re going to have to do better.”

“How about if I tell you I’m entranced by how your pussy felt fluttering around my cock and I want that daily for the rest of my life?”

“Demanding,” I purr.

The description said a two hour read but if you're a slow reader like me… its 4 hours.

So, I thought this was really quite brilliant. It was a fun, fresh, and lighthearted take on the genre of fantasy romances / erotica, with genuinely likeable main characters. I can't wait to see more, especially Auralia and Donovan's story. The story made me smile a lot and it was really refreshing to be able to read a story where things turned out so well for the main characters so quickly. I loved the idea of a 'one night read' and was really impressed by the amount of world-building the author was able to accomplish in novella / novellete form. I haven't read anything else the author has written before, so this world was completely new to me, but it was incredibly clear. I did re-read a few sections, but that was for my own enjoyment - there were so many little hints the author had left earlier on about things that would happen.

There were a few bits I was confused about, namely how big the fae are supposed to be - I imagined them as human-sized, but then at points Ember was worried about a starling or single thorn damaging her, which made me think maybe they were supposed to be quite small? There was also the odd sentence which I didn't think made sense and I had to re-read a few times. There was also a sort of jump at the mid-way point regarding the character's feelings to each other which I thought felt a liiitle rushed, but overall this wasn't enough to detract from the 5-star rating.

Finally, I did find the title a little off-putting at first and was hesitant about choosing the book as an ARC until I read an excerpt - but then in the story itself this is addressed, the male main character describing it as 'an adorable name for something so disgusting', so the title was redeemed in my eyes.

Overall, I would really, really recommend this for fans of fantasy romance / erotica, and I can't wait to read more set in this world!

Thank you to the author and the BookSirens site for providing this novella as a free ARC for an honest review! I leave this review voluntarily.

Oh my gosh, what a fun, quick read!!! This took me about 2-ish hours from start to finish, so if you’re looking for an easy read as a palate cleanser in between longer novels, this is perfect.

“The Springfest Sprint” is the first published entry of the Faetales series by Georgie Monroe, which briefly dives into the lives (and romances) of a fantasy world’s fae creatures. Think “fae” more like Tinker Bell and the Pixie Hollow fairies, rather than ACOTAR fae. There’s Seelie vs Unseelie fae, seasonal courts, enemies to lovers, satisfactory spiciness, etc., and while this novella is just a quick glimpse into this world, the level of detail the author illustrates in just around 100 pages (ebook version) had me devouring every bit of it.

Honestly, the only reason why this isn’t 5 stars for me is because I actually wish it were a bit longer. While there was a fantastic amount of character development and conflict, I did find myself wanting the story to be dragged out just a little bit longer. On the bright side though, there is a second novella in this series that I believe will be announced/coming out shortly, so there is more of this universe to look forward to!

All in all, I had a great time with this novella, and I look forward to next one in the Faetales series (title is supposed to be announced June 30, 2023)!!!

Ember is now of Seelie age to participate, albeit forcibly, in the traditional Springfest Sprint: an event in which the males hunt for a bride, capturing females to mate for life. However, Ember wishes to remain unbound and knowing that more than a few of the males have their sights set on her, Ember has a plan.. hide until the festivities are over. But when she finally finds the perfect hiding spot, she quickly realizes that she is not alone.

What originally drew me in was the gorgeous cover and I stayed for the captivating blurb! This was a quick and spicy fantasy novella that had me hooked right from the start! The fast paced action and steamy scenes were absolutely riveting, and it was so fun gallivanting through the fairie lands. The FMC is a spunky, headstrong Fae with dreams that do not fit her role as a princess, while the MMC is an alluringly dark male who is determined to change her opinion of his kind. I loved the sassy banter between the two characters and the instant connection that they seemed to have. Meeting mysterious, forbidden strangers almost always leads to the best spicy scenes, and this novella did not disappoint! Monroe does a spectacular job with her descriptions and the short story was very well written. There was a lot packed into this little story and it left me wanting more of the duo. I look forward to reading the next installment of Faetales!

Consider me a fan! After the blurb caught my attention I knew it would an interesting read. However, I was blown away by the loveable and sassy characters and the impressive world building packed into this small novella. For lovers of everything Fae, I’d say this is definitely a must read, as it gives a refreshing new take on Fae-lore. The main characters, Ember, Ty(phon) and Donovan have already captured my head in just a few pages - consider the hunt successful ;) - and the way Ember and Typhon interact is so much fun to read! I simply can’t get enough of them.

The story felt a little rushed at times, yet in such a small format the pace of the narrative is still very clever, impactful and keeps you entertained till the very last page. Which is impressive considering the size of the novella!

Springtime Sprint is definitely the novella to pick up for a short and entertaining read. Fair warning tho: It will leave you wanting more!

One thing is for sure, I’m hooked to the authors books now and can’t wait to see more of this world ✨

I just have to say that this book was amazing! It is a perfect short fantasy romance story with all the sass from the main character you can ask for. The first thing that caught my attention was definitely the cover, like wow Ember looks absolutely stunning, it's the perfect representation of her.

I loved the bond between Ember and Ty it was perfect with the banter alongside the nicknames, unbeatable. She is definitely a strong fmc and i loved her, a very well written character to be completely honest. I feel like this is just one of those books you can read if you're stuck in a reading slump, the bond between the characters and the short chapters just stop you from wanting to put the book down for even one minute and just make you feel like you have to know what's next and before you realise it you've finished the whole thing.

It is the first instalment in the "Faetales" and with the next one coming soon hopefully!

Be sure to get yourself a copy of The Springfest Sprint on release day 23rd June 2023!

If you are wanting a quick, super spicy, fun read, look no further than The Springfest Sprint. I was pleasantly surprised to find how addictive this novella is and wanted to know more every time a chapter ended.

Diving into a fae world is always fun but adding lusty characters and a dark MMC that counts the FMCs freckles make it hard for me to put down a book. I'm normally a fan of the slow burn and books with insta love or heat up too quickly usually turn me off, but with this book I didn't find those tropes cringy or hard to deal with at all. The instant lusty vibe and the easy page turner had me comparing this read to the Never King series.

Ember is spunky and sure of herself. Typhon is kind but predatory, just like we like em. These two gave off a slight Romeo and Juliet vibe (if you don't read the last two acts of the Shakespeare play) in how they are drawn together despite their people being at odds with one another. Even with such a short read we get a little banter between Typhon and his friend Donovan which was great. The Springfest Sprint is sure to bring you out of a reading slump and add a little fantasy to your day!

This book will be available June 23rd! I received this novella as an ARC in exchange for my honest opinion. Thank you Georgie for reaching out and giving me the opportunity to read your work!

Thanks to NetGalley and Victory Editing NetGalley Co-Op for this ARC.

This was a spicy little fantasy novelette that was quite enjoyable for what it was. In it, we follow Ember, the princess of the Spring Seelie court as she is forced to participate in a mating ritual that she has no interest in. Instead of giving in to the Springfest Sprint, Ember has other plans up her sleeve, plans that are foiled when she stumbles upon an unexpectedly sexy unseelie.

Fun spice and and interesting concept although admittedly, I would have loved for this to have been elongated into a full novel and for the story, world and characters to have been fleshed out a little more. Monroe clearly has a full concept of her world planned out but in its current format, readers are dropped into the middle of an unexplained world and hierarchy which is both a tad bit confusing and a little frustrating since it forces the entire story to be crunched into a quick instalove tale.

Overall, this was a fun 4/5 star read for me and I would absolutely love to see longer works from Monroe in the future.

Please read the trigger warnings!

Oh, My Goodness! I loved this quick, fun and spicy fairy fantasy. This was my first dark fairy romance novel, and it won't be my last! I really enjoyed it. It was quick but The Springfest Sprint has just the right amount of character development and spice to keep you entertained. My only complaint is I needed more story!

Ember is sassy and strong and knows what she doesn't want! We learn in the story that she is coming of binding and claiming age and is forced to participate in this traditional festival called the Springfest Sprint. The hunted males chase the females and whoever is caught is mated for life. While she is running to escape from the males, she finds a hiding place. Ember thinks she may have escaped the game but quickly realizes that may not the case...

I was completely drawn in from start to finish. and that cover art!!! so pretty! I am hoping to see if the author continues this story.

Overall, great quick read! I would recommend :)

Ember must face the Springfest Sprint, it’s a cruel tradition of her people. If you’re not mated by a set age you’re forced to run from males looking to claim a mate. The males can fly, the women can only run and hide. I love Embers courage and determination to not get caught. She reaches her hiding place after several close calls. Ember is a Seelie princess, Typhon is a Unseelie Prince . Typhon is shocked that Ember will be forced to mate, he hinds her when some males come after her. Typhon and Ember kiss hot and steamy. I love the chemistry between them and sad when Ember leaves, she wants to stay with Typhon but can’t. Typhon can’t stop thinking of Ember, will not lose his fated mate. Heart pounding, thrilling, action packed and brilliant story with a wonderful ending. Typhon and Ember happy ever after 🥰🤩❤️‍🔥. I loved 🥰 this exciting and very moving story, fantastic read.

A really fun, super quick, spicy read.
Like most of my reads, the cover caught my attention first and I was intrigued. Another thing that drew me to this book is that it was a very short read. I really enjoy sliding quick reads between series, or books that are on the longer side. The Springfest Sprint caught my attention from the beginning and kept me entertained throughout. The best part of novellas is that you don't get pages and pages of world building. The best parts are right in your face with no fluff. There is a sneak into another couple at the end, so I look forward to reading their relationship once it is released as well as other books/novellas by this author.

🌶 3.5/5

Ember is a feisty, Fae princess that has come of age to choose a mate, but she doesn't have any real interest in any of the Spring Fae, so she is to participate in the Springfest Sprint. Many of the elite Spring Fae have her in their sights. She plans to hide and wait out the ceremony so she isn't mated and free by the night's end. She finds herself in the perfect hiding spot, but a stranger appears. He is unlike any of the men she has ever met. Typhon is respectful, a good kisser, and a Dark Fae!

This book may be short, but it had so much world-building and you really got to understand the FMC within the first couple of chapters. This author immersed me in another world where I could picture exactly what was happening throughout the book. Ember and Ty had a great enemies-to-lovers relationship that I didn't want to end. Which brings me to the downside of this book. It was too short. I wanted more! The ending wrapped up nicely and quickly showed how their worlds could emerge. By the way, the spice was 🥵.

Thank you, Georgie Monroe and Netgalley for this ARC!

Thoughts: It’s a great, quick read. A lot happened in such a short time and there was some great spice jammed in there as well. I would love to see this novella turned into a full book or even better, a whole series! It doesn’t get any better when we flip things around, where the villains don't turn out to be the real villains when you look a little closer. I would recommend this book and this author. Although there is a warning regarding nonconcent, it’s more of the theme of the book and how barbaric it is and why women should have the right to choose what happens to their bodies.

I received the ebook of this novella through NetGalley.

This novella was an enjoyable and easy to follow read. I quickly read it in one sitting and could not get enough. There was a good amount of chemistry between the two main characters. There was also decent world building and background information. I especially liked the detail about the liar’s curse/punch. Most books about fae state that they cannot lie, but never give any information on why that is or what would happen if they tried to lie. I would love to read a full length novel set in this world with a closer more detailed look at the different courts.
