The Edens #6

Sable Peak

Rate this book
Vera Gallagher is chasing constant. For four years, her life was anything but normal. And the years before that she refuses to even remember. Dwelling on the past only hurts. Life is fragile, a lesson her mother taught her well. She’s determined not to waste a moment of her newfound freedom.

Maybe some would consider her crush on Mateo Eden wasted time. Maybe some would call her a fool for loving a man who hasn’t once dropped a crumb of interest her way. Still, to Vera, it’s Mateo or nothing.

He’s handsome. Charming. Witty. And he loves his family the way Vera loves—with her whole heart.

Maybe he’ll never notice her. Maybe she’s too damaged, too broken, to find that normal life she craves. Maybe her secrets will always keep them apart. But Vera will love him anyway. Whether Mateo realizes it or not.

An unrequited love, small town romance.

4.25 stars! Such a great ending to the series 🥹 im so sad to say goodbye to Quincy & all of these characters. This last book was one of my favorites in the series. I loved the continued mystery plot from book 5 and Mateo & Vera's love story. And we got to see so much of the other edens. Truly the perfect goodbye book to the series and eden family

jokes on me for expecting this to be good 🤡
sorry for the rant 😔 and i’m just gonna lower my rating to 1 because while writing the review i realized i didn’t enjoy a single thing

MATEO.DID.NOT.SHINE. (couldn’t)

i wonder how did Mateo felt when he learned about his daughter? how was their first nights together? did he struggle a lot? what was her first word? did they bond easily? how was his days in Alaska? i don’t know. i was reading about Vera’s unrequited crush for 2 damn years. apparently he took a paternity test at the hospital the day Allie was born because her grandparents didn’t want to give up her. would i like to read those days? yes. but sorry i was reading about Vera’s boring life.

what is the point of writing a single dad romance if the focus isn’t dad or the kid? i loved Juniper Hill because Memphis was real. she had struggles, she had sleepless nights, she had problems with Drake. what did Mateo had? i don’t know, a kid who would occasionally throw a tantrum over bath?🤨

Vera Vera Vera

i honestly couldn’t care less about her. first eleven chapters were told by only her which makes it the %25 of the book. she would talk about before like we supposed to know what is it🤨 and then she would talk about Mateo 🤡 i can’t believe how pathetic she was.

and after 11 chapters she just randomly snapped at Mateo for not seeing her even though she never did a move before? 🤨 kissed him in front of the woman he was flirting and entire Eden family only to run after 🏃‍♀️ girl what are you even trying

Mateo Mateo Mateo

i’m so disappointed. she gave us absolutely nothing about him. oh wait i know he doesn’t like cherry tomatoes, he’s allergic to shellfish, his favorite color is blue… if you wonder why i know this totally random facts, Vera was listing these things off when she snapped at him😃 ok girl go on with your creep behavior

OH WAIT- Vera loves cherry tomatoes(like olive theory how romantic😜) drinks her coffee with milk and sugar and eats her mashed potatoes plain because apparently Mateo is also have weird infos about her🤨 even though he would go on dates with other women for the last 2 years as soon as she kissed him, he went full on chasing mood. he decided Vera was his and his only😍 why did you not see her before then?

anyways that’s all i’m gonna say about Mateo and as you can see most of them was about Vera because this book was about Vera 😃🤚🏻

about the safety: Vera is celibate for years, Mateo is also celibate since he learned about his daughter. no owd/omd or third act break up. he went on a couple of dates over the past years but there wasn’t much information about it. obviously there’s also dead ex&baby mama which he wasn’t sure if he loved? imo he loved her because if she didn’t break up with him he would stay in Alaska.

normally i would leave some sweet quotes but this time i’m gonna leave some quotes for you to see how pathetic Vera was🤗

I would have liked this loft had he not lived here, but knowing this had been his home too made me love it that much more. (his loft before he left for Alaska)

He was the light. My light. The shining star that chased away the dark.
Please don’t move to Alaska. I pressed my palm to the glass.
“Happy Valentine’s Day, Mateo.”
(watching him through the window)

Alaina.
Her name was Alaina.
The day Mateo brought her to Montana I knew I’d never win his heart. Because he’d given it to Alaina.
With silky dark hair and eyes the color of sapphires, he called her Allie.
Alaina.
His daughter.
(no explanation needed)

He winked. At. Me. The girls at the table didn’t get winks. Lyla didn’t get a wink. Just me. What did that mean? Did he wink at everyone? Or just girls with nice home haircuts? (the only explanation is that lyla is his sister)

~~~~
FINALLY IT'S MATEO'S TIME TO SHINE 🙌🏼
i've been waiting his book since the first book 🤭
edit: i don't know how i feel about this book anymore 😪
I’m so sad right now whyyyyyyyyyyyy
Mateo was the one sibling I wanted to read a book about. He seemed like the wild child who didn’t fit in with his family and I had to read ALL the other books because I wanted to make sure that I didn’t miss any detail on this guy.
Sadly this book gave me less info on Mateo than the books about his siblings.
I’m aware the main character in this book is Vera but how do we know so little about Mateo’s time in Alaska. That should have been more important and more detailed.
I feel like throughout this book the same scene happened over and over again and we learned nothing new. There was just a lot of hiking and unrequited love.
I needed more. I needed more of Mateo and his past but also just his feelings? We know what Vera feels but Mateo went from 0-100 over ONE NIGHT. IT MADE NO SENSE AT ALL.
On top of that, Vera’s story was sad but we could have worked with it soo much better. More focus on her past instead of the focus on the constant fucking hiking.
I get it, you guys hike every day.
”i see you.”
“not always.”
“always.”
the book, particularly the ending, failed to meet my expectations. i wished for a more structured closure regarding Verra and her horrific past. I desperately needed a fresh narrative and a more promising future for Cormac Gallagher. I was fervently hoping that the next story the author would explore and the next happily ever after she would gift her characters with would be his. the beauty of his character lies in how intricate and twisted it is, and a redemption arc orbiting around him, his past and his future would definitely be a masterpiece. but it’s not in the author’s future plans😭
i loved how the first part had resumed and retraced the two years of Verra’s journey toward a civilized life only and mainly from her perspective. i loved being immersed in the head of not-your-typical twenty-something woman, how she perceived the world, how she experienced a crush and a heartbreak, how she tried to learn welcoming strangers in her restrained cocoon.
the second part of the storytelling is where i found some difficulties to properly enjoy the plot, the characters, the relationship. Matheo's point of view’s addition was invigorating, but it didn't significantly enhance the plot. i’m certain that the author has an aversion to love stories following a slow or normal passing. everything went too fast, too soon and it’s a shame because i remember absolutely loving the only one book Devney Perry dared to write as a slowburn and this one should’ve gone through a slower relationship development. i also were craving more on screen scenes between Matheo, his daughter and Vera..
all in all, it’s hard to say goodbye to Quincy and the Edens but i absolutely adored the extended epilogue; BECAUSE DADDY HARRISON EDEN 🤰🏽
kinda sad the fmc is finally not Tera from 'Tin Queen' but excited for Mateo and this Vera 👀
“𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐬 𝐥𝐢𝐟𝐞 𝐨𝐟 𝐨𝐮𝐫𝐬 𝐰𝐚𝐬 𝐜𝐥𝐞𝐚𝐫 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐚 𝐦𝐢𝐥𝐥𝐢𝐨𝐧.”
sable peak was truly the perfect final book for this series. mateo is charming and selfless and the steady rock that vera can cling to while she’s finding her way back to herself after all that she’s been through. their romance is slow and sweet and perfectly their own. i loved having a chance to say goodbye to the rest of the edens, the little nods to their love stories throughout the book were everything i could’ve asked for. and it wouldn’t be a devney perry book if the final epilogue didn’t make you sob.
it has been a joy to spend time in quincy, montana with these characters over the last two years. i’ve loved every minute of it. while it’s certainly bittersweet, mateo & vera’s story was the perfect way to say goodbye to the edens.
I’ve thoroughly enjoyed Devney Perry’s ‘The Edens’ series and was equally sad to see it come to an end, but excited to get Mateo and Vera’s story, especially after reading ‘Crimson River’
This one didn’t have the strongest start for me, as unrequited love sometimes works for me and sometimes doesn’t… especially when the fmc is the one who is in love. Vera has it so bad for Mateo and he just doesn’t seem to see her like that. Until he does.
My favorite part about this book was seeing Vera with Mateo’s daughter. It was the sweetest. I always love a single dad romance. Also, Vera had so much character growth and I think Devney does such a good job balancing the romance and feels with the suspense in this series. The Eden family is a special group and I hope we might get some next gen books in the future.
update: i did a little sleuthing, but i cannot confirm/look into what i found further because i dont have IG & TikTok. 👉👈 based on THIS guide, apparently, this book is going to be a single parent (dad), age gap romance with unrequited love (the h towards the H) element. taking into account what ive gathered about the MCs, im going to assume that the h will work for the H as his daughters nanny. due to forced proximity, the h develops a crush that she thinks is one sided because the H simply hides his attraction/feelings better. i could be wrong, but it will most likely be shite regardless. 🌚
after finishing book 5 & reading the blurb and thinking of possible theories...EW I DONT THINK IM GOING TO LIKE THIS BOOK. 😭
in Crimson River, its revealed that Mateo had a casual fling with some girl in Alaska. he was interested in more, but she was not. so, he went back to the Lower 48 (Quincy). by the end of that book, he says that he “has to go back to Alaska” because he “THINKS HE HAS A DAUGHTER.” 🤩 i was excited because i like surprise baby/single mom tropes. however, this blurb says that the h is Vera Gallagher, whos introduced in the previous book (whom i had also suspected would be the one paired with Mateo, but the whole Alaska fling & daughter bit threw me off 🤦‍♀️). the only good thing about this is we’ll finally know Veras secrets and what happened to her sisters.
anyhow, this could mean that : (1) the Alaska girl is dead, so Mateo has to take care of the daughter...which means single dad & sorta dead ex tropes; 😪 or, (2) shes not dead, but they have to have a custody battle...which means single dad & potential OW drama. the latter will likely be similar to The Bluff, which means DP is rehashing old ideas. lets not forget, Veras unrequited love (i like this trope only when its the MMC whos pining 🙃). this is also a story DP has written about before in Timid. whichever the case, its not my cuppa. can y’all think of different scenarios that dont involve these?? because i cannot. 💀
i probably wont like this book, but im still reading it—if only because its the last one (is it not?). so, pray for me! 🤞🤞🤞
i actually can’t even put into words how good this was, how destroyed i am knowing the edens are over, and how much this series changed me.
vera and mateo were just absolutely perfect. they had the most genuine connection and the slow journey from winks and glances to excuses to be around each other to little touches here and there and finally to their insane chemistry was EVERYTHING. this isn’t a long book but their love story felt so intentional and perfect.
vera was so strong and her internal dialogue broke my heart so many times. she just wanted to be whole and normal again and mateo gave her that as best he could.
mateo managed to be the cutest, most protective dad also while being so emotionally intelligent and caring and communicative and HOT. their chemistry was everything and i LIVED for the winks and blushes!
as always, the edens have the cutest family moments but a special shout-out to harrison and anne for stepping in to be vera’s pseudo parents 🥹
i am NOT okay that this series is over but sable peak shot right up to my favorites in the series along with juniper hill. what a journey and what a story!!
I wanted to savor this book because I knew the end of this series would sting, but I couldn't keep myself from eating it up, so I’m here, grieving one of my favorite series and I have no idea how to move on.
Vera and Mateo own my heart, their book just pushed Jasper Vale from my top 3.
I knew I would love it. I knew Vera had so much to give and it wouldn’t be easy.
I loved that the start of the book was just from Vera’s POV and I wished it wouldn't be so rushed because I know a crush that deep wouldn't start from just a “presentation” between the two of them, so I wished I had more details about how this feeling “grew”, but I think for having that I would need a book just about the “before”.
I had my doubts about the main trope, instead I just feel like the unrequited love trope wasn't so “heavy” as in other books I've read. I don't like when the FC acts like a doorstep to gain the MC’s attention, and Vera did not. She navigated her first real crush after years in the wilderness in a way that a “normal” girl wouldn’t, I know I wouldn't.
Mateo was so real for his trouble finding his “call”, I felt connected to him. The way everyone around him had found their path, pursued their dream, and he was just stuck there, doing something just because that is what society expects from you, no matter if you liked it or not.
Yes, probably I did expect more about Mateo, not just his love for his daughter, the pain of finding what to do with his life, and his love for Vera. I probably wanted more insight into how he found out about Allie instead of just two phrases. I probably wanted to read about what he was going through in the “fighting” with Madison’s parents. I think there was so much left out of Mateo, but I also think Vera had a big background and there were a lot of questions to be answered, and that was the main focus. Like in Crimson Creek, the main focus wasn't the romance between Vance and Lyla, but the mystery about the Gallaghers.
So yes, maybe those missing pieces disappointed me a bit, but in less than 400 pages there wasn't much space to give everyone everything. In the end, I think this book was just a perfect end for a perfect series, even with its little missing pieces.
**********
previous review:
The way some of you hate on this book (after getting just small glimpses from the end of Crimson River) it’s really scary.
How can you already hate a book or a character without having any idea about it?LOL
Why are you suddenly mad that Vera is the FMC? I’d be mad if she wasn’t, because in Crimson River there was a whole house of secrets to unlock about THAT night, and I need answers.
And why are you mad if the FMC is pining after the MMC and not the other way around? Where does it say the MMC has to be the one going after someone? Okay that it’s fiction, but let’s be honest, the chance that a man is pining after a woman are really low.
Sable Peak by Devney Perry
𝄞 Reading period: August 11 - August 14, 2025
✿ Rating: ★★★★☆.5
“We weren’t exactly new, not in a lot of ways. Vera had been a part of my life for years. A part of Allie’s too. We were just starting down a different path. And there was no looking back.”
When I picked up Sable Peak, I thought I was in for a sweet small-town romance—and it is that—but it also reached into my heart in ways I didn’t expect. Vera Gallagher felt like someone I could see myself in. She’s been quietly in love with Mateo Eden for years, loving him from the sidelines without pushing or demanding anything in return. And Mateo… well, somehow he never noticed her in that way—until something finally shifted.
ˋ°•*⁀➷ Vera:
“It wasn’t gone, but it was lighter because Mateo was carrying part of it now.”
Vera is a character you root for from page one. She’s been through emotional storms that could have made her close off completely, yet she remains soft, hopeful, and quietly brave. What’s touching about Vera is her vulnerability—she’s not afraid to feel, but she’s terrified of being hurt again. Her love for Mateo existed long before he ever noticed it, which makes their eventual romance all the sweeter. Vera’s bond with Allie shows her natural nurturing side, and watching her become part of a family she’s always deserved feels like watching someone finally step into the sunlight after years in the shade.
Vera’s character stayed with me because I see so much of myself in her. She’s soft but strong, loving yet guarded, and she’s been through enough to know that letting someone in isn’t always easy. Still, she chooses to hope. That quiet resilience—the kind that doesn’t shout but keeps showing up every day—feels so personal to me.
I relate to the way she loves Mateo from a distance at first, not because she doesn’t care enough, but because she cares too much. She doesn’t push, she doesn’t demand—she just loves in a way that’s patient and steady, even when it hurts. And when Mateo finally sees her for who she truly is, it’s not just about romance. It’s about her finally being chosen, not because she changed, but because someone finally recognized the worth she’s always had.
Vera’s story isn’t just about falling in love with someone else—it’s about finding a place where you belong, where your heart feels safe. And that’s something I think so many of us are searching for.
ˋ°•*⁀➷ Mateo Eden:
”like the moon and the tide, the closer he got to her, the closer he wanted her.”
Mateo is the kind of man who reminds you that love isn’t always loud—it can be steady, patient, and quietly life-changing. At first, he feels like this calm, dependable presence, almost unaware of how deeply someone right beside him cares. But when he finally sees Vera, truly sees her, it’s like a switch flips, and there’s no going back.
What I love most about Mateo is how his devotion shows in the little things. He’s protective without being overbearing, tender without losing his strength. He doesn’t just make Vera feel loved—he makes her feel safe. That’s a rare kind of love, the kind that gives you room to breathe while still holding you close.
And then there’s Allie. The way he is with his daughter says everything about his heart. He’s patient, warm, and present, which makes it clear why Vera falls for him—not just as a man, but as a father. His love isn’t divided between them; it grows to fit them both.
Mateo’s journey isn’t about becoming someone new—it’s about realizing what’s been in front of him all along and stepping fully into it. Once he does, his commitment is unshakable. He’s proof that the right man doesn’t just love you when it’s easy—he loves you when it matters most.
ˋ°•*⁀➷ Allie:
Allie might be young, but she’s such a big part of book’s heart. She’s not just there to be the “cute kid in the background”—she’s the thread that quietly ties Mateo and Vera together. The way she naturally gravitates toward Vera says so much; kids can sense when someone’s heart is genuine, and Allie sees that in her long before Mateo fully does.
What I love most about Allie is how she brings lightness and innocence into the story. She softens the heavier moments and reminds everyone—characters and readers alike—that love doesn’t have to be complicated to be real. Through her, you see how Vera already belongs in their world, even before the romance officially begins.
Allie’s presence also deepens Mateo’s character. The way he parents her—patiently, protectively, and with so much quiet love—shows exactly why he’s worthy of Vera’s heart. And when the three of them are together, it’s not just a love story between a man and a woman—it’s the making of a family.
“I couldn’t stop thinking about her. It felt like someone had slipped glass on my face. And that someone had given me permission to see. Now I wanted to learn everything there was to learn about Vera. I wanted to see it all.”
What truly elevates this book is not merely the romantic elements, but the profound transformation that Mateo undergoes upon finally recognizing Vera. There is a poignant moment in the narrative where his perception shifts dramatically; he evolves from viewing her as just a friend to cherishing her as the most significant person in his life. This change is beautifully illustrated through his actions—he listens intently to her, defends her against challenges, and creates a sense of safety that she hadn’t even realized she was longing for. It was incredibly rewarding to witness not just his journey into love, but also his conscious decision to safeguard her well-being and mend her heart, showcasing a depth of character that resonates deeply throughout the story.
Before: He treated her like a regular friend, without special attention.
After:
He starts treating her as a priority—like she’s the most important person to him.
He listens to her feelings and respects her needs.
He defends her when she needs protection.
He makes her feel safe and valued in ways she hadn’t experienced before.
1. From “She’s just part of my life” → to “She’s my person.”
“You are her family… and you’re mine. We are your family.”
At first, Vera is simply Mateo’s close friend and someone who helps with his daughter, Allie. The shift happens when he realizes that she isn’t just there—she belongs in his life in a deeper way.
2. From distant respect → to protective involvement
“I won’t let him keep hurting you. I will not.”
He starts stepping into situations where Vera might be hurt—emotionally or physically—and makes it clear he won’t let it happen again.
3. From letting her manage alone → to sharing burdens
“From now on, we go out here together. I don’t want you out here alone. Not anymore.”
Early on, Vera tends to face things by herself, but Mateo changes that by making it clear she doesn’t have to.
4. From obliviousness → to deep curiosity
“Now I wanted to learn everything there was to learn about Vera. I wanted to see it all.”
He admits to himself that he can’t stop thinking about her, and he wants to know everything—her dreams, her fears, her past.
5. From convenience → to commitment
“I love you, Vera. I won’t leave you. And I won’t let you go.”
Before, their closeness was partly circumstantial (small town, family ties). After the shift, he’s intentional—he chooses her.
Vera’s side of the story is just as moving. She’s been through so much, yet she’s still gentle, loyal, and quietly strong. Her love for Mateo’s daughter, Allie, was so natural and heartwarming—it gave the story an extra layer of family love, not just romantic love. In the beginning, her love was invisible to him. By the end, it’s something she can say, show, and live without fear. This is a full-circle moment for her—choosing openness over quiet longing. Vera loves Allie from the start, but she never assumes she has a right to claim a place in their family. When Mateo tells her, “You are her family. And you’re mine,” she lets herself believe it—and accepts that she belongs.
By the end, I wasn’t just reading about Vera and Mateo falling in love—I was watching a family come together. It’s a quiet, steady kind of love, built on trust and care, the kind that makes you believe in forever. Sable Peak isn’t just a romance—it’s a reminder that sometimes the best love stories are the ones that grow slowly, until one day you realize they’ve been there all along.
⤷ Thank you for reaching to this point here and I’m really glad and thankful for you, love you ⟡.
"hasn't shown a crumb of interest" -- this sounds awful.
I mean I'm still going to try to read it though, we'll see...
Post Crimson River alittle more excited/hopeful now that Vera has been introduced… but only by alittle because DP seems to enjoy hating her female characters and puts them through too much.
I know this book would be good but I didn’t expect it to be so good and cute. Seriously this is filled with cuteness, longing, loneliness everything.
What hurt me more and will always hurt me is when Vera cried in Matteo arms recalling that night and saying how she couldn’t save them just broke my heart into millions pieces. I wish I had power to bring back Vera’s sisters back 🥹
If i could sum up this book it'd be INCREDIBLY BORING.
i think i had the same problem with the previous book and honestly with every book i've read in this series.
the first half is okay but after the mcs get together the plot begins to drag and i get so bored.
vera was such a promising character with what she went through, the trauma of her father killing her mother, her mother killing her sisters and then living in the wilderness for years and all she thought for months was mateo and pining after him. even the pining was half-assed.
unrequited love can be very interesting trope if done right but the first chapters "the before" chapters when she is pining after mateo and he didn't notice her were so short that i wasn't even convinced that she's in love with him??
i feel like she had so much trauma and maybe devney needed to focus more on that than this "unrequated love" which was everything but that.
then out of nowhere girl was sick of waiting for him and watching him go out on dates so she went full psycho and kissed him in front of the whole bar and the whole family💀
And before Mateo could say another word, I pressed my lips to his, holding that soft mouth for two aching heartbeats before I pulled away.
He stared at me, his face unreadable.
“I’m done waiting for you to see me.”
I flew from the bar. I ran. And as I raced down Quincy’s sidewalks, I put my love for Mateo away.
I shoved it in that locked box.
And buried it down deep.
i'm sorry but this was so funny to me.😂
like who does this publicly, can she be more pathetic 😭😭
after mateo found out she was in love with him for years there wasn't any relationship development he immediately was like omg i was so blind of course i have feelings for her.
they got together so fast and i was so bored.
the plot started dragging, the same things happening all over again, just some mundane every day stuff repeating. i didn't even get what was the plot here? like vera looking for her dad and overcoming her trauma?
she was the slightly more interesting character but at the same time no? she could barely string two sentences together, she kept supressing her feelings, her memories how did she overcome her trauma? she didn't. it magically disappeared over night.
about mateo.. he was such a plain character.
He just found out how he has a daughter and i love the single dad trope but his whole storyline was so poorly written like devney didn't know what to do with him but at the same time wanted her h to be the main character. Idk sorry i know everyone loves him but his daughter allie was the best part about him, she was the cutest little girl but the man had zero personality. i was sooo bored with him.i wish his struggles as a single father were more explored.Even the sex scenes were mediocare and boring.
overall so bored with the whole book.
I'm glad this series is over ngl.
RTC Just finished and holy Jesus Christ, I didn’t think anyone could dethrone Knox & Memphis, but boy was I wrong.
My God, I’m so humbled and willing to admit I was wrong to think I wouldn’t absolutely adore a secret pining unrequited love story. Mateo & Vera are PERFECT together.
After reading Crimson River and finding it mediocre at best, I find out that Vera is the love interest…VERA?!? Really?!?!
It’s disappointing because when DP hits she HITS, Indigo Ridge? Winn & Griff were spectacular. Then along came Knox & Memphis and absolutely nothing compares to Juniper Hill and “my kids a night owl.”
But these last few? Blech, BLECH, especially Garnet Flats, I wish I could’ve bleached my brain after that one. My God Vivianne and Foster? I’ve never hated an MMC more and her soul sucking best friend.
I liked Jasper Vale better, Eloise is adorable, but again DP reeeeeally loves OW drama doesn’t she? That whole wedding in Italy made me cringe.
This is kind of all over the place to say I have no idea how I feel about this book other than Vera pining after Mateo sounds rough. I’m not sure how I feel about unrequited love.
This was such a huge disappointment. This is supposed to be a book about Mateo Eden, who is an Eden sibling. The series is literally called "The Edens" and yet... the first ELEVEN CHAPTERS were all from Vera's point of view. We don't get anything from Mateo until chapter twelve. By then, I was 25% through the book. We heard about Mateo all through the previous five books, and I was so interested in his story. But we got essentially nothing. Also, we find out in the last book that he has a daughter, and I was so intrigued by how he would handle being a single parent through his daughter's life, particularly through the first few years of her life but WE DON'T EVEN GET TO SEE IT! It's all from Vera's point of view and then it's a few years later in the present when we see Mateo and his daughter. WHY? VERA IS NOT AN EDEN! Why did we just get the majority of HER story and not Mateo's? It just doesn't make sense.
Another thing that bothered me is that when we DO get to Mateo's point of view, he basically says that the reason he is a better man now and not a manwhore who doesn't care about women is because he has a daughter now. Um, so you weren't a good guy before but now that you have a daughter, you are? Why did it take being a father to make you realize you treated women like shit?
I understand Vera was in love with Mateo for a long time and it was unrequited love but for the first 25% of the book, we hear over and over and OVER about how much she loves him but he doesn't give her the time of day. It was really getting annoying, and actually embarrassing and pathetic. Borderline creepy how obssessed she was with him. Then, when she does tell Mateo how she feels (sort of?), he all of the sudden "sees" her and is madly in love with her. He didn't notice her for years but NOW he's all about her? I don't buy it. It just seemed like an immediate shift with little to no thought. It didn't make any sense.
There wasn't an exciting climax and no payoff to truly be worth taking up the first 25% to have Vera talk about how broken she is and how much she loves Mateo and he doesn't notice her. They didn't even really have chemistry. For Mateo, it was sort of just like, "Oh, here's Vera. She's pretty and she's good to my daughter, so I'll be with her then." We learned nothing about him, except he's a dad, he's a pilot and he wears brown boots with black belt.
This was basically just unrequited love and a fuck ton of hiking. Like, we get it... you're hiking every single day. ENOUGH WITH THE HIKING!
I still cannot believe Devney Perry wrote the masterpiece that is Juniper Hill and then every other book in the series was awful. How is this possible? I don't know but she did it.
Also... the thing that was REALLY WEIRD was at the end, Allie is 17 years old and she brings this 20 year old guy she's dating to a family party and NO ONE in the Eden family says anything?! No one thought, "Hey, that MAN is too old to be dating my TEENAGE DAUGHTER." ??? How did Devney Perry think this was okay?! I am appalled. Did anyone else catch this? Because my jaw literally dropped and I thought there's no way she wrote this BUT SHE DID. SO gross.
I LOVE THEM ALLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL
this was exactly what you want from an EPIC small town romance that follows siblings and the loves of their lives. we not only got to witness Mateo and Vera trust and fall in love with each other …we still got precious glimpses of the whole eden family.
i’m heartbroken this is over but so happy at the same damn time. everyone got their happily ever after and i wouldn’t change a damn thing about it.
this was simply a perfect book.
Muito fofo. Este não seguiu a “fórmula” dos outros. Ou seja começamos primeiro com capítulos só da Vera e depois é que foram aparecendo alguns do Matteo.
Gostei imenso da história. Tocou em temas sensíveis de maneira muito delicada e cuidadosa.
Foi uma história sobre ultrapassar medos, e voltar a acreditar na vida. Um excelente final para esta saga.
(agora preciso de ir ler todos os outros livros da autora)
божечки-божечки, це найкраще книга із серії 😭🔥
наскільки сильно Віра загубилася через свою травму, і наскільки міцним духом виявився Матео, щоб втримати її на плаву, допомогти знову побачити світло, приймати усі її болі та рани.
вони ніби підживлюють одне одного, дарують життєву енергію та мотивацію, підтримують навіть найбожевільніші, здавалося б, вчинки.
відданість. чуттєвість. впевненість, що разом все подолають.
вони найкращі. назавжди у моєму серці❤️
якось тяжко від того, що ця серія закінчується. вона не була ідеальною, але стала однією з улюблених.
трагічна історія Віри, всі страхи, переживання, провина. її життя не було легким. повернутися до нормального, соціального життя, після того, як була відірвана від світу – нелегко. проте Ідени стали для неї новою знайденою сім'єю. всі полюбили, а Гаррісон та Енн були немов другими батьками. Венс та Лайла теж завжди були поруч, щоб допомогти і підтримати.
Матео ж у той період дізнався, що став батьком, а точніше – батьком-одинаком. перший рік був дуже складним для нього. з Вірою вони були щось на кшталт друзів. а спостерігати за тим, як кожного разу розбивається її серце, було болюче. я їм обом щиро співпереживала.
не сподобалось, як саме Матео дізнався про почуття Віри. тобто всі все знали, бачили, а він сліпий. а тут як тільки все дізнається у такий незручний спосіб, то враз відкриваються очі і починає діяти. не люблю, коли так затягнуто. але надалі вони були комфортними і нарешті пішов якийсь розвиток. ось тоді Матео став чудовим. про своїх дівчаток дбав і ось тка любовна лінія вже на щось та й тягне. але те, що мені не сподобалося – мало Віри з Еллі. у другій книжці «juniper hill», де троп мати-одиначка, показали цей зв'язок Нокса з Дрейком, рідним сином Мемфіс. у цій книжці мені не вистачало цього. так, були моменти, але їх мало, і вони мене геть не зачепили. тут мої сподівання не виправдалися. бо я хотіла якось більше почуттів, емоцій, бачити частіше їх втрьох, як сім'ю.
а в цілому дуже хороша історія. головні герої викликають симпатію, а від думки, що серія закінчується, стає сумненько. епілог – ідеальне завершення. з чого розпочалося, тим і закінчилося :)
Single Dad
Small Town Romance
Unrequited Love
Llegamos al último libro de la serie que es protagonizado por Matteo el hermano menor y del que casi no conocemos nada y de Vera un personaje secundario que hace aparición en el libro anterior y es sobrina de Vance.
Vera ha tenido un evento traumático y bastante trágico, 4 años antes sus hermanas gemelas y su mamá murieron y a ella también la creyeron muerta, pero todo ese tiempo la pasó huyendo con su papá que es al que acusan de esos asesinatos.
Cansada de esconderse decide regresar con su tio Vance y tras este casarse con Lyla Eden, ella también formó parte de la familia y al momento de ver a Matteo tiene un crush instantáneo y que al pasar los años se convierte en amor no correspondido.
Esta es la historia más tierna, Matteo era muy dulce con Vera que tenía bastantes demonios, pero él nunca la trató diferente ni frágil.
Amé también las escenas de Vera con Allie la hija de Matteo.
Me encantaron los epílogos, toda la familia reunida al final, yo necesitaba más epílogos la verdad.
uhh I’m kind of disappointed with this one. I had so high expectations for this story, Matteo and Vera were such interesting side characters in the other stories and I was looking forward to them. But Vera pissed me off so much sometimes with her obsessive crush and unresolved trauma which she kept to herself but still sometimes made drama?! Idk, and Matteo’s feelings towards her suddenly grew because of a kiss and he instantly loved her?! no. The only enjoyable parts of these books were everyone with the other characters or when they were with Alaina and their little fam. Other than that this was was not for me.
Anyways, overall I really liked this series and am gonna miss the Edens so much😭I just wanna attend a family dinner of them
Final rating couples:
1.Lyla and Vance
2.Talia and Foster
3.Eloise and Jasper
4.Memphis and Knox
5.Winn and Griffin
6. Vera and Matteo
So cute & so sweet.
I read the other books in this series last year and have had this one sat on my bookshelf for months now, so I really just wanted to close out this series.
This entire book series is a lovely comfort read, it really makes a girl want to fall in love with a cowboy and live on his ranch.
