Enjoyable fictional account of Charles II's escape after the Battle of Worcester in 1651. The story of his many narrow escapes from recapture, and the varied people who helped him is an interesting one. I hadn't actually realised what a very long and involved route he travelled - 625 miles altogether before he was able to get on a boat to France. The book has striking black and white illustrations by William Stobbs, and there is a map showing the route taken by Charles and his helpers, quite a tour of England.
