William Scott, grocery store clerk and disgraced computer hacker, awakens from an alcohol-induced blackout. Plagued with insomnia and a killer hangover, he drags himself out of bed to face the day, spits out a few bloody teeth, and finds his apartment building abandoned. It's a downward spiral from there. His beloved, Valerie, the woman who left him heartbroken and defeated, has just left a panicked series of messages on his phone about evacuating town before it's too late. Clumsily investigating what happened while he slept, he discovers it is, in fact, too late, and he's been left alone to face an insidious threat lurking in the silence outside.
I am a writer. I live on the road and sometimes in California.
I am in the business of storytelling. The stories I write are not about you or anyone you know. If your likeness ever appears in my work, it's nothing personal. It's just the business of fiction.
I don't eat mayonnaise and fear sharks in all water situations.
Dislocated is a gripping read. I happened to be lucky enough to get an advance copy prior to the official release today (October 31).
When Will wakes up with a major hangover and can't quite get a grip on what day it is, you wonder if he's just a loser who has lost all sense of reality. And maybe he is. How then to explain the birds, and the wolves, and the fact that every human he encounters is dead? The book left me wanting to read more while at the same time I was afraid to find what he'd encounter next. He's alone. Or is he?
This is not normally the type of book I'd pick up. But with Dislocated, Max Dubinsky may have changed that.
"Holy crap!" were the only words coming out of my mouth after I finished reading "Dislocated" by Max Andrew Dubinsky. I don't read the horror genre, but being a fan of Max's blog "Make it Mad", I wanted to give his new book a try. This story never stops, your eyes will be glued to the words as you're following William figure out what the heck is going on in his town. Bravo Max Andrew Dubinsky! Bravo! Looking forward to your next books. :)
This one was spooky and strange as the character wakes up remembering little and has to piece together what is and has been happening around him every time he goes back to sleep.
The story that Dubinksy spun for a day in the life of William Scott is not one that I would typically read, but within a couple of pages, I was truly hooked and was eager to find out just what happened to William that day.
The story is fast paced and filled with the inner thoughts of the main character from the mundane to how the past shaped who he is today. My mind was kept intrigued through the entire story, and I look forward to reading more from Dubinsky in the future.
A thriller from the start, but it ends just as it starts to get good. The promise of continuation online is not what I expected. Usually I don't like to start a book with a cliffhanger ending until the rest of the story is available.
Disclaimer: I received a review copy of this book through Story Cartel, and a free copy of the final version with a revised ending.
This was just starting to get interesting and then it ended. I wasn't expecting the end that came and because of it I'm left with more unanswered questions than the story started with... Makes me wish it was a novel and not just a novella. I'd give it 4 stars if it didn't end so abruptly. Hopefully the author will continue the tale with a full length novel.
This book was incredibly different. From the beginning, I was drawn into wondering what was going to happen next. With each new twist, the author kept me guessing. While this is not typically my genre of book, I found myself wanting the story to continue.
