Rate this book
It was supposed to be the happiest day of her life...
Too bad her high school sweetheart left her at the altar.

Everything Charlotte has ever known has shattered. Her eight-year relationship has crashed and burned, and the worst part is, she doesn't know why. The only comfort she has is from her best friend, Aiden.

Who happens to be her ex's older brother.

He thought it would be the hardest day of his life...
But it doesn't even compare to the pain of helping her move on.

When Charlie's cousin convinces her to try online dating, they both turn to Aiden for guidance. After all, he's known as the king of dating in their small town for a reason.

There’s only one problem.
He’s been in love with Charlie for as long as he can remember.
And the only thing more gut wrenching than the girl of his dreams walking down the aisle toward his brother is hearing about all the horrendous blind dates she's going on and watching her try to find a rebound.

Charlotte (Charlie), Vi, Aaron and Aiden have always been best friends. When Charlie and Aaron started dating in high school the group dynamic changed, but they all remained friends. Eight years later Charlie is left by the altar by Aaron, without explanation, and her world shatters. She turns to Aiden, Aaron's older brother, because he always makes her feel better. When Vi persuades Charlie to start dating they force Aiden to help. To him it's pure torture, but he can never say no to Charlie. He's been in love with her for as long he can remember...

This author is so good at creating wonderful and memorable characters! I want to befriend all of them and spend as much time as possible with them! Luckily this is only the first book in a new series.

We get Charlie's and Aiden's perspective, as they're our main characters. Besides Aaron and Vi, who both play a significant role, there are several side characters who I fall in love with. Haines manages to describe the dynamics of a friends group, and how it can be both good and bad being as tight as they are. A slight disorder can change everything, while at the same time it's a big comfort.

I'm a bit bothered by Charlie often doing what her friends (read: Vi) tells her, even though she doesn't want to. The book also feels slightly too long, with some unnecessary dissipations, but since I enjoy being in their company I really don't mind, and it doesn't have an impact on my overall impression.

This novel has been published in an anthology earlier, under the title Try Me. Haines has added to the steamy scenes, but too me it still feels like a sweet romance. And I enjoyed it as much this time around!

* I received an ARC from the author and I'm giving my honest review. *

Fun romantic read, but a bit too predictable and flat in my opinion. 3,5/5

The Wrong Brother is a cute romantic story about heartbreak, acceptance, resilience, empowerment, an amazing tight-knit group of friends, wonderful families and best-friends-to-lovers romance. It's a fun and easy read, with strong hallmark vibes at times but a few spicy scenes as well. You get to know various amazing characters you'd immediately want to befriend. However, it feels a bit too predictable in my opinion, you can see almost all the twists and turns coming. Some events or characters could also have used a bit more depth (the story mainly focusses on the relationship (and pining) between Charlie and Aiden, other plotlines are present but a bit underexposed).

So overall it was a fun romantic read. I'd definitely recommend checking it out.

Thank you CM Haines for the ARC.

C.M. Haines' novel, "The Wrong Brother," launches the Love Hunters Series with a poignant exploration of love, loss, and unexpected second chances. Set against the backdrop of a close-knit town filled with drama and secrets, this steamy new adult romance captivates readers with its heartfelt characters and roller-coaster emotions.

The story follows Charlotte, a woman whose world has crumbled with the sudden end of her long-term relationship. Left with unanswered questions, she finds solace in the companionship of her ex-boyfriend's older brother, Aiden. As they navigate their evolving friendship, Charlie's cousin encourages her to venture into the world of online dating, leaning on Aiden's expertise in the field. Unbeknownst to Charlie, Aiden has been harboring feelings for her for years, leading to a whirlwind of emotions as he helps her navigate the treacherous waters of rebound relationships.

Haines' writing is engaging, drawing readers into the lives of the characters as they grapple with their own desires, fears, and insecurities. The chemistry between Charlie and Aiden is palpable, their dynamic evolving from friends to something more with a natural progression that keeps the reader invested. The small town setting adds charm and depth to the story, giving it a sense of familiarity and authenticity.

One of the novel's strengths lies in its exploration of relationships and personal growth. Charlie's journey of healing and self-discovery is relatable, and Aiden's internal struggle between loyalty to his brother and his own feelings creates tension that resonates deeply. The novel also delves into themes of forgiveness, redemption, and the complexity of navigating emotions within the context of close-knit communities.

While the emotional complexity and character development are standout features, some readers might find certain plot elements to be predictable or trope-driven. Additionally, certain supporting characters could have been further fleshed out to add more depth to the town's dynamics.

"The Wrong Brother" by C.M. Haines is a touching and steamy novel that successfully blends romance, self-discovery, and the complications of family dynamics. With relatable characters, a well-constructed small-town setting, and a story that pulls at heartstrings, this book marks a promising start to the Love Hunters Series. If you're looking for a heartwarming tale of love and redemption set against a backdrop of drama and friendship, this novel is well worth your time.

Aiden and Aaron Barnes are brothers. As the book opens, Aiden is a third grader, and Aaron is a second grader. Their best friend in the world is Charlotte (Charlie) Powell, She lives right across the street. The fourth one in their group is Charlie’s cousin, Vi. Charlie has always been in love with, Aiden. So, much so, in second grade, she married, Aiden, on the playground. Although, Aaron was their minister, pretty sure not legal, am I right? And, Vi she was their wedding coordinator and florist.

Charlie and Aiden, truly believed they were married. Yet when, Aiden and, Charlie were to walk down the aisle, Charlie froze for a moment. She’s always feared being, the center of attention and, tripping or falling. Aiden assured her he had her. They even tried to convince their parents that, Disney World was the perfect honeymoon destination. But, just as Aaron said the words, “You may kiss your bride,” recess was over.

However, only for the second graders. This means only, Aaron and, Charlie had to go in from recess. Leaving Charlie deflated and tears in her eyes. Aiden felt the shift in her mood. When he figured out why, and ran over to stop her. He turned her around and kissed her on the lips. The great big smile appeared on her face, it made, Aiden happy, too. That’s all, Aiden ever wanted, was to make, Charlie happy.

Seventeen years have passed and it's Charlie’s wedding day. The men’s dress area is somber, rather than joyful, but, Aiden can’t put his finger on it. His little brother, Aaron should be ecstatic. After all, he is marrying the best girl ever, and, she is, Aiden’s best friend. Plus, Aaron's been dating her for eight years and living with her for three. And, it's at the alter part way through his vows he decides to bail. Says he can't go through with it and she knows why he can't do it anymore because her secret will always be between them. Putting his crap on her. Dude man up you are a chickensh-t. Aaron consistently stays my one to hate.

Even at the end when the author pulled out a fairytale ending when everyone makes up. BS! He didn't want his brother to have her. He was selfish. He put it on her. It was a good book. Until, the ending. At least for me. I know if the roles were reversed a Catwoman ;) would have her claws out along with her hair. Feral Kitty. For an Alpha male it surprises me he was so relaxed about letting him back in with no hard feelings let alone his home.

This is the first spicy book I have read for CM Haines, also known as (Cait Marie), and it was not disappointed. This was her debut novel under the new pen name. I have lately been interested in a higher heat level and absolutely loved this one. I read this story when it was first being worked on as a clean romance, but the spicy factor made it so much better.

I love the connection between the main characters that they couldn't resist. The tension in the book was amazing. I couldn't imagine the plot line written any other way.

This is one of the few times where I truly believe the title fits the book to a T. You'll just have to figure out how. I say this because sometimes I don't understand why a book is called a certain thing. I know it was a match made I'm heaven.

I truly enjoyed how well the plot line flowed. I didn't think anything needed changed or adjusted. It was smooth sailing and easy to read. I just couldn't believe what Charlie got herself into throughout the story. There were a few funny scenes along with some serious ones. It was well balanced.

I enjoyed the side characters and how they were involved throughout the story as it made the situation even more intriguing with everyone's input. I really hope there is a novel about Harper and Colby as I would love to see their relationship, whether friends or more, develop.

I rate this book a 5/5 stars. I truly believe it is worth the read for everyone over 18. I think a lot of people would enjoy how great this story is.

I was lucky to read the early anthology version called Try Me, and I *adored* it. That being said, I have to say that as much as I loved it before, THIS IS EVEN BETTER THAN BEFORE!

I don’t do spoilers, I think I was so lucky to read both, this start to the Love Hunter blew me away.

I loved the sweet start, from there the story takes the main characters on the believably yet surreal path to finally reach the HEA they deserve…and have always wanted and deserved.

The spice is a slow burn, due to circumstance and emotion then EXPLOSIVE when it finally happens.

This is a five out of five for story.
This is a five out of five for spice.

The emotion, wit, twists and turns will keep you enraptured, the laughs and genuine adventure of this will make you want more.

Do not miss this, THE WRONG BROTHER, book 1of the Love Hunter series (standalone also) by C.M. Haines

This is a small town friends to lovers romance. Aiden, the MMC, is the ex fiancés older brother and Charlotte, the FMC, is the best friend of that older brother! She’s unexpectedly left at the alter and is shoved back into the dating world soon after by her best friend/cousin as she starts going on these interesting dates she ends up at Aiden’s place each night and slowly their true feelings start to unravel and the truth slowly starts to come out! There’s sooooo much more going on that impacts their decisions every step of the way but I don’t want to give too much away! Their friends and family are great and I’m eager to learn more about them!

You’d love this book if you like:

🎨 Small town
🎨 Ex fiancé’s brother
🎨 Girl/Boy next door
🎨 Dating app fiascos
🎨 Meddling friends
🎨 Best friends to lovers

This is my first read from CM Haines and the writing style was so good, the character development throughout the story was top tier and I found myself really drawn to them as people. My only comment is I felt it would have possibly been more engaging in first person but that’s a personal preference in books for me and no criticism of the author ☺️

I adored Charlotte and Aiden together, they worked so well and you were really rooting for them from the get go.

Overall this was a beautifully written romance novel of heartbreak, friendship, growth and healing. If this is what you like in a book then this one’s for you.

The concept? Intriguing! The execution? Fantastic! The title says it all- the wrong brother. It was a fun quirky romance.

The characters are perfect, with delightful flaws and quirky personalities. In particular, I loved the side characters and am hoping for a spin off following some of them in the future. However, the main story is wonderful too. The author tells a twisted tale of heartbreak and finding love through growth. It's intense, steamy, and has an interesting plot. I ended up reading it twice! I wholeheartedly recommend this novel for the characters and concept.

Note: I received an ARC, though I'll be purchasing and adding to my collection too

“The Wrong Brother” is the story of childhood best friends Aiden and Charlie, who have always been in love but never quite realized that the other loved them back. There’s a “forbidden” element to this as well, because Charlie was previously involved with Aiden’s brother, Aaron. I thought this book was really good; Aiden and Charlie’s relationship was so well developed, and I could sense their chemistry from the very beginning. Aiden is such a swoony hero, and Charlie is a very likable heroine. I highly recommend!!!

Yet another book from this author I love.

As always the characters are easy to fall in love with. I hope we get more in this world and get to follow some of the side characters. The plot was a fun twist on the trope and enjoyed the ride with Charlie and Aiden.

This is definitely a book I'll suggest to others. It would be a fun book club read.

Super cute story and when the spice hits, it's lovely! The friends-to-lovers is so well done as is the wrong-brother trope. The pacing was great as was the banter.
The big reveal was just heart-breaking for everyone and I loved the reactions those directly affected had - everything was just so well played out!

I am a member of Cait Marie's ARC team and was sent an electronic copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

The Wrong Brother by Cait Marie is a wonderful, quick read! With friends to lovers, wonderful family and friend dynamics, and a small town setting, readers will be able to predict what will happen, but it's a refreshing, feel-good read. Aiden, Aaron's older brother, has been in love with their best friend Charlie since the three were in middle school, but her engagement to Aaron ended any chance of the romance he's dreamed about. When the wedding doesn't go to plan and he helps her pick up the pieces of her life, they begin to understand each other on a deeper level after being best friends for their entire lives.

With romance, friendship, and humor, The Wrong Brother is a novel about love, timelessness, and family, and how the ties that hold us all together aren't as easy to break as they seem.

Charlie, her cousin Vi, and brothers Aiden and Aaron have been best friends since birth. Their banter and love for each other... it's delightful to read.

Eight years ago, Aaron did something horrible and the guilt has been eating away at him. On his and Charlie's wedding day, he leaves Charlie at the altar. Vi and Aiden are left to help her pick up the pieces.

Charlie and Aiden were made for each other. MFEO. The other half. Their love story is one for the ages.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. The pacing was great. The characters feel so real. I saw another review compare it to Stars Hollow - I agree wholeheartedly. Charming community. I can't wait to read more.

I received a copy of this book for free and am voluntarily leaving a review.

This was my first time reading this author. The character development was top-notch, and I really connected with them. Charlotte and Aiden's relationship was a highlight for me; they just clicked, and you couldn't help but root for them.
This is a beautifully crafted romance filled with heartbreak, friendship, growth, and healing. If that's your cup of tea, then this book is a must-read!
