After losing my apartment and my job on the same day, I had to ask for help. There was only one person I could call, and thankfully, he came through for me. Then, an epic snowstorm hit while I was moving, leaving me stuck on the highway for fourteen hours. I thought my bad luck was over when I finally made it to Devil Springs. Little did I know, it was only just beginning.
Coal
I was on my way home when it started snowing. Traffic came to a stop and I soon found myself stuck in the middle of a snowstorm on my bike. I was beginning to think I was going to freeze to death when the woman in the moving truck next to me offered to let me sit in her truck while we waited for traffic to start moving again. I had no idea that her simple act of kindness would change my life forever.

This was cute and I overall liked the story and enjoyed reading about Aspen and Coal. Their “meet cute” was cute and I liked them as characters even though there wasn’t much character development and this was mostly plot driven. It was fast-paced and interesting.
The premise is that Aspen has had a life of bad luck first being landed with the worst mother in the universe (and I say this in the context of a series that has already exemplified several actual nightmare mothers especially for the heroines) and them being evicted with nowhere to go. Fortunately, an old boyfriend of her mother who’s been a father figure to her when she lets him comes through for her and gives her a place to stay in Devil Springs. But she’s caught in a snowstorm next to a biker who’s freezing and she lets him share the warmth of her vehicle. Enter in Coal who’s probably the most non-toxic hero in this series so far and a friendship (and chemistry) builds. But there’s a danger surrounding them both that neither is prepared for.
To me, this had a lot of coincidences that weren’t so necessary. For example did there need to be that extra link between Coal and Aspen? No. And because of these over-convenient connections between the characters, even having read the entire series, it was hard to follow at times. The prologue was confusing because I didn’t know who was talking. The character list at the beginning didn’t list all the characters and sometimes I had forgotten who was who. The dialogue didn’t take into account that Coal has 2 dads and 2 moms both of which he apparently calls “dad” and “mom” and so sometimes we didn’t know who he was talking to or taking about- especially nearer the end. I also felt that more could have been done to nurture the personal relationship between Coal and Aspen. They were both so likeable but it felt like their personal story was rushed and overtaken by the drama around them. The whole story around that also didn’t make any sense to me- from the prologue to the rationale of Pamela and what she was trying to achieve in the end. It just seemed very implausible and a little reach-y. I am still invested in this series and I did like what there was of the couple so I’d rate this 2.5-3 stars.

Aspen is needing help and reaches out to the man who is like a stepdad to her. She doesn't hesitate to take his offer of the old home she used to live in Devil Springs. Heading that way she finds herself stranded in a snowstorm, but when she offers a lone biker a place in the truck to keep warm she doesn't realize she will see him more than she thinks.
Coal finds out Aspen is his neighbor and is thrilled that he gets to see he more. He wants her and when she is put in danger he realizes how much. Aspen and Coal begin building something special together but her past is threatening to pull them apart.
Another terrific one by this author. I have been eager to read Coal's story, he is always the calm biker who is kind of a boy next door in previous books. His story was fantastic and I was really intrigued by Aspen and Luke. So many wonderful characters in this series. Can't wait for the next book.
I’ve loved Coal throughout the series, and I liked him and Aspen together. I enjoyed the parts of the story that were written, I just miss everything that wasn’t included in this book. Nothing really MC related in this one, no scenes with Coal and Ember, and no mention from Coal’s POV on his move to Devil Springs. The whole book was just very insta-love, surface level, and that’s what takes it from a 4-5 star book down to a 2-3. For as long as us readers waited for this book, I expected more.
I’m so happy that we got Coal’s story! I love Aspen for him. It’s totally crazy how connected they were before they even met - almost like it was meant to be! 😉 While I hate what they went through, it really fast-tracked their relationship. I love them together! And I love getting to visit with the whole family and the couples we already know and love.
This book had good potential, but I realized after so much time between books in this series how complex the characters' relationships are. I found myself confused about who was related to who, but I made it to the end. I liked Coal, and I like Aspen for him. All I’m all, this book felt more like a filler to me, so I didn’t love it.
It was ok, but way to short. It really had to be an insta- love on steroids story. Being that it was so short it was kind of a bummer to have chapters taken up for others POV's.
The story was good. It’s is worth the read especially is you’ve been following along with this series.
However I feel like he deserved more. Coal was introduced in book 1 and has been with us through and been such a big part of the series and to only have surface level interaction with his family when everyone got such a deeper dive into their feelings felt underwhelming.
The storyline it’s self was good but it felt so fast paced there was no time for them to just be a couple on page or much of the ‘classic mc life’ that accompanied the other books in the series.
Coal has been such an important part of this series, I just wished we got to see more of his relationship with his moms and dads and his new brothers and sisters and how he felt about learning about his history. In previous books it indicated that Ember and Coal were close but she was only mentioned twice in this book.
Like i said I did really like this story, it’s well worth the read and I love this series but since we have been waiting for years on this book i just felt like Coal deserved the 300+ pages like the rest of the mc ( excluding bear) rather than the less than 200 he got.
Coal is an amazing addition to this series. He is everything you would expect a Blackwing member to be.. He is hardcore to the core, will do whatever is necessary to protect and care for those he loves. He is sweet and he is kind. When he gets caught in the snow it changes his life forever. The sweet woman in the packing truck offers him a place to get warm while they wait out the weather. Aspen has been handed a crap hand in life, but do you know what?! She refuses to let it knock her down! She reaches out to someone in her past, and that is when her life takes a huge turn for the better. Their lives are more inter-mingled than they realize. Along the way these two find what others in the club have been blessed with. Coal shows Aspen what it is like to belong and between him and Luke show her what it is like to be loved. This book is well written and flows fantastically. I found myself consumed with this book and was bummed when I finished it. Highly recommend
This was a nice addition to the series. There are so many surprises an questions answered. Aspen's character is strong but vulnerable, a sweet and caring person you can't help but love her. Now Coal, for some reason to me I always thought of him as a young man but in this book he seems so much more grown up than before. You could see the bad*ss coming out in him. Lol. This book is like a rollercoaster ride with all the revelations going on. As always there's an abundance of sexiness. Aspen and Coal are so smokin hot together. At times I laughed and at times I was screaming in my head, there were several people that deserved a good old fashioned *ass woopin. Pamela's character was explosive, she's just pure evil. Lol. I really loved the appearance of the adorable little Brinkley she always makes me smile. At times the suspense got pretty intense and I loved every minute of it. I EXTREMELY RECOMMEND THIS SERIES TO EVERYONE.
Coal & Aspen: triggers-assault, drugs, kidnapping, bomb. Just when I think this series couldn't get any better, it does. Firstly, their meet cute is so cold, literally. I would have never guessed meeting someone in this way. In so many ways I felt that Coal and Aspen were destined to be together. Too many things lined up perfectly for them to connect. Of course there's drama and it pertains again to people we've met in previous books. The antagonists are like roaches 🪳, they just don't die. 🤣. But I feel like constantly seeing these antagonist pop up in later books means that there's something bigger and badder in the story for the BWMC and I'm curious to read how they will get out of trouble. This is a really great story and though the romance is lacking, the action and drama kind of makes up for it.
Aspen and Coal met in such a fun way, it couldn't help but to build a bond between them. One that strengthened when they found out they had common people that were important to them. Of course the attraction didn't hurt either. With Aspen so down on her luck, she was doing well as she did a re-set in her life. It helped that she had Coal by her side and in turn all the MC. This became important as her mother reared her ugly head putting everything in danger. Luckily for everyone involved some good things happened, so that once and for all this evil person could be dealt with and our couple gets their HEA.
I chose this rating because this was actually a pretty good book. I really enjoyed pretty much all of the characters. This was a book of protection, compassion, kindness, humility, understanding, falling in love, and also getting your life back. I really enjoyed Coal and Aspen story. I think the author did a great job with putting these characters together. This book was well written and pretty well put together. Great read! I recommend this book to all MC lovers and romance readers.
YES!! Coal's story was years... YEARS... in the making but I loved it. While there wasn't as much of the Blackwings community in this one, it did provide a neat little packaged ending for the group as a whole.
This is a steamy romance but there isn't as much intimacy as in previous books. There is quite a bit of violence and some cursing. I would recommend this to any adult with the warning that there is violence.
Coal and Aspen meet just when a snowstorm is about to hit
Coal and Aspen meet just when a snowstorm is about to hit. Aspen is moving and driving a moving truck, and Coal is on his bike, freezing his butt.
She offers him shelter in her truck and thus begins their wicked journey to love. Add in a crazy, homicidal mother, kidnapping and drama to this riveting read!
Coal and Aspen are so stinking cute together!!!! I have been waiting for Coal to get a HEA since we met him in the original series - this was worth the wait. TONS of mystery and intrigue and drama and all the spicy good stuff too. We also get to continue peeking in at all the other MC family’s lives and get some exciting news for a few of them. LOVED this one!!!!
I will start by agreeing with other reviewers as to this book being too short. It deserved more than it got. Too many 'glossed ' over parts, which was a shame. It needed more! Saying that however, this book deserved it's 5 star review from me. I love all the Black wing books and though this book was too short, I did love it.
Wow another fantastic read in this series, I think the flow is what draws me in that I just can't put them down . Teagan is a wonderful Author that has a way with words that brings her books to life .
I preordered Coal. It showed up on my Kindle tonight. I just finished it. I was so ready for a five star book. Reagan Brooks killed it. Fast paced and fun read.
Cole was an amazing read. The love between both characters was right there from the start. I loved how both Aspen and Cole were intertwined before they even met. Teagan once again has out done herself with this story. I loved it from start to finish.
A really great book! Didn’t give it 5 stars only because was not ready for it to end so soon. It felt very abrupt. That said was so happy with Aspen for Coal. He’s so special and required someone equally special for his HEA
A fast moving drama surrounding a young woman who continues to struggle from a traumatic past and an uncertain future. As she thrives to rebuild her live, threaths from her past start to occur.
Excellent read. I absolutely loved Coal and Aspen’s story ❤️❤️❤️ it’s a wonderful book. A bit of drama and near death experiences, a bad mother with greed on her mind. 100% recommend this book to everyone ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ you won’t be disappointed 😎
The wait for Coal was totally worth it. I love the BlackWings MC!!! Hagan Brooks once again knocked it out of the park. Coal is a beloved character, Aspen is amazing!
Absolutely freaking amazing!!! Coal is everything and more then I could have ever imagined. The story line had me laughing and crying and the ending was perfect I can’t wait for more from Teagan she’s the best.
I love the way these guys fall hard and fast. I love stories that intertwine and weave known characters into the new stories. The action was great and story had me gripped. Loved it.
Coal and Aspen meet in a snow storm and everything changes for them as their friendship builds into more. But Aspen's psycho mother has different plans for the two of them and they have to fight for their lives.
I had been waiting for awhile for this book. I really enjoyed reading Coal & Aspen’s love story. Lots of twists, which this author is known for. One of the reasons I so enjoy her writing.
