It’s a compilation of stories written by the late auteur P. Padmarajan (1945-1991). The volume includes 18 stories, all of which are deeply insightful tales on romance and relationships. Padmarajan’s ‘Lola’, which was once selected by the late critic K.P. Appan as Malayalam’s best love story, has also been included in the volume. The foreword has been written by publisher and entrepreneur Ravi D.C.

About the author

(Malayalam: പി. പത്മരാജന്‍; 23 May 1946 – 24 January 1991) was an Indian author, screenwriter, and film director who was known for his landmark works in Malayalam literature and Malayalam cinema. Padmarajan was the founder of a new school of film making in Malayalam, along with Bharathan, in the 1980s, which created films that were widely received while also being critically acclaimed.

Padmarajan was noted for his fine and detailed screenwriting and expressive direction style. Padmarajan made some of the landmark motion pictures in Malayalam cinema, including masterpieces like Oridathoru Phayalvaan (1981), Koodevide (1983), Arappatta Kettiya Gramathil (1986), Namukku Parkkan Munthiri Thoppukal (1986), Thoovanathumbikal (1987), Moonnam Pakkam (1988), Innale (1989) and Njan Gandharvan (1991).

With every page turning,I was taking a step into the dreamy world of love.. As I took more steps,my vision became blurred.. My thoughts lost their clarity.. I wasn't thinking of myself.. I was thinking of love in its many forms.. Of the tears that it gave me.. And of the smiles that it blossomed.. The night was misty.. I could see a form vanishing.. It had contours like a human.. I sharpened my eyes.. Was it human.? One of the many loves I have had in passing and for real.? Did it have a face.? Was it a human.? Or a god.? Was it a man.? Or a woman.? My thoughts got mixed.. Brain started its work of warning my heart.. Stupid heart.. Beware.! Control yourself.! Remember.. Only the fittest shall survive.. Darwin.. Phh.. Face became red with anger.. I could see the veins protruding.. The way of the world.. Losing direction in dark alleys.. Drunken mind.. The facade of 24 carat persona.. Frustration.. Confusion.. Where do I stand.? Where do I belong.? Thoughts jumbled like reels of tape.. I can even see the thoughts in light brown color.. My fingers try hard to separate the reels.. But all they get is darkness.. I take that darkness and wear it as a blanket.. I shiver more.. I try to keep my feet outside the blanket.. I always liked it that way.. My eyes keep searching.. For a black cat in that darkness enveloping me.. Suffocating.. But I like this.. Hiding behind the blanket of darkness.. Better than showing myself to the prying eyes.. The red blossoms of love are not for the weak.. I kept staring at that red.. My lips got dull.. Red to brown.. Then white.. Pale white.. The rose is still red.. A mix of my sighs.. And tears.. And of hopes that fill my room on sleepless nights..

This is my first reading of Padmarajan. I can see what I had been missing.. A man whose thoughts walked in front of his age.. The words were magical.. The salty wetness more clear in each of them..

I took a long time to read this book. No, not because it was long. Because I wanted to savor and relish each and every story in it. And also because I didn't want the book to come to an end. These are not simply stories, these are lessons on life, drenched in love and painted through beautiful words. It's clear why the author can be called the king of romance; I don't think I have read a collection of stories on love in so many different shades and flavors, haunting me beyond the pages. I'm mesmerized...

This book is the collection of 18 Padmarajan stories, including the well known story Lola. 18 love stories 18 different views from the author. If we consider the period of origin and the theme it handled of all stories, we will understand that these stories are pretty unconventional for that society.

പത്മരാജന്റെ ഏറെ പ്രിയപ്പെട്ട പ്രണയ കല്പിത കഥാസൃഷ്ടി! കഥാകാരനെ പോലെ വായനക്കാരനും ലോലയോട് അതിയായ പ്രണയം ഉളവാകുന്നത് നിസ്സാര കാര്യമല്ല. പലപ്പോഴായി പല തവണ ആവർത്തിച്ച് വായിച്ച ചുരുക്കം ചില രചനകളിലൊന്ന്.

P.Padmarajan was an acclaimed film director in Malayalam film industry. He was also a very talented writer. This is a beautiful collection of 18 short stories by Padmarajan. All of them stories of Love, Separation and heartache. Although the common theme is love, each story is is entirely different from others.

A real soulful but very short description of author's affair with a girl when he went to United States. Though it is celebrated as one of the best writing of Padmarjan, i beg to differ by saying that he had constructed better stories. This story felt vey little though touchingly original with its non-conventional description of surrounding and Lola's character sketch.
