The essays themselves are a mixed bag, and mostly either overblown or undercooked, but there is something innately amusing on the eve of the release of Dylan’s 39th album to read a ‘retrospective’ published in 1972.

a generally excellent collection of writing. fascinating to see the views of dylan at the time and how they evolved
