I seldom read short stories, because I'm almost always disappointed. I read this book, because I enjoyed several novels by this author and wanted to take a peak. These are well-crafted and disturbing stories told in a non-judgmental way. If you are looking for something "feel good" this is not it. These stories showed things that I'd rather not look at as seen from the eyes of those who do these things. It answers the question "What were they thinking?" These stories feel so real when seen in that light and that makes them close to home and disturbing. I found them very engaging reading.
A wonderful group of short stories from one of my favorite authors. Ms. Catherine Ryan Hyde has an amazing way of understanding the human condition. Her stories bring out the best in people and give the reader pause to think. I'm very grateful for having found her through my Kindle and I would like to thank her for all her writing. I intend to get to all that she has available.
I like this writer and have enjoyed many of her novels, but I am not a fan of short stories. For those who are,you may enjoy the short reads, but I prefer Nudes novels.
I'm glad this isn't the first book I read by Catherine Ryan Hyde because then I would have missed out on all the great books that followed. These stories were awful and ran between homosexuality and depressed characters. Nothing I am interested in.
I am typically not a reader of short stories, but I have loved most of CRH's novels, so I thought I would try her short stories. I was very pleasantly surprised and enjoyed these snippets into the lives of people who are challenged by their journey!
I read the first story, Dante. I hated it. It didn’t make sense. The writing was awful. Figuring that this was a sample of what’s to come, I closed the book and will never read further.
i hate to give one of her books such a low rating. all of her other books ive read have been great. This short story collection was terrible. Good thing they were all short so reading (skimming) was fast. Most of them were boring and very similar. at least i can cross this off as my book of short stories for the 2015 challenge.
