Something just isn’t right at Battlefield Memorial Hospital. Nick Moore, a sensible middle-aged man from Eastern Texas, must admit that his best friend Jared might not be losing his marbles after all. By an eerie twist of fate, both of them end up in this same out-of-the-way hospital at the same time. Nick soon learns that Jared’s irrational, terrified rants about the place don’t tell the half of it.

The year is 2010 when Nick is checks in, but at this hospital, time doesn’t seem to cooperate and the line between nightmare and reality starts to become blurry. Somehow, Nick becomes involved in a famous local Comanche Indian fight from the year 1840. As the mystery unfolds, his values are tested and keeping his sanity becomes more important than his physical healing.

Hospital mystery meets historical fiction in this somewhat humorous, often suspenseful PG-rated novella. It has been specially formatted for all Kindle devices, so we can promise you a smooth, enjoyable electronic reading experience. This novella was a little bit bland, despite the hint that the ‘nightmare’ of the title indicates some suspense, perhaps, and/or horror.

After visiting his friend, Jared, in hospital, Nick finds himself in the same hospital after careless driving causes him to crash his car. His stay is far from boring: the nurses put a new spin on ‘attentiveness’, time seems to move agonisingly slowly, if at all, and how on earth is he in the middle of a Comanche Indian battle that happened a hundred and seventy years earlier? The lines between reality and nightmare become rather blurred for Nick. He needs to find a logical explanation. Was it the medication having some sort of weird side effects?

The characters were rather one-dimensional, the dialogue a bit stilted and the historical fiction seemed a little too detached from the story—almost incongruous.

It was neatly ended, but it just left me thinking, ‘oh, okay’ rather than, ‘wow, that was a good story’.

If you like a marriage between modern-day hospital mystery and historical fiction, you may like this. It’s certainly an easy, short read, so you don’t have to invest too much time in it. For me, it just lacked a little 'oomph'.

It all started out with Jared in the hospital. Fingers coming out of walls and demonic clocks were all the things he was seeing—right after the surgery. Was it the drugs they had him on? Was it a medical conspiracy? Or was it just the mere paranoia of being enclosed within the hospital walls? At first, you’re really not sure what’s going on.

Then a car accident sends his best friend, Nick, to the same hospital Jared was in. Strange things begin to evolve, leading Nick to a blind stupor and erratic paranoia. Were they illusions? Were they dreams? Or were they real? But what did the Indians have to do with any of it?

Curiosity compells the reader to find the answer, however, confusion follows every step of the way.
Some scenes, like Nick shopping for flea spray, were a tad mundane and long-winded.

Overall, the story was well-written, but I felt that it wasn’t interesting enough and often found myself seeking the point of it all. What should have started off as a horror story ended up being almost like a history lesson, which is a plus for all those who enjoy hearing tales of cowboys and Indians. It seemed to me that the whole thing was just one puzzling illusion after another. By the end, we find out why.

The book was short and quick, and there was a clear indication of the author’s delight in it. I must admit that that was what I enjoyed most of all.

The author sent me a PDF of his book and requested that I review it. Here is that review. Since I don't normally read this genre (medical thriller, historical fiction), I wasn't sure what to expect. I had thought it was going to be like Robin Cook which I like to read sometimes. However, this book was different.
This book starts with the main character getting enjoyed on his way from visiting his friend in the hospital. Like his friend reported to him, the main character experiences strange events in the hospital. He wonders if these are all nightmares or are they real events. They seem too real to be dreams. The author combines the history of an indian battle into the story in a fascinating way. This is why I think of it as historical fiction more than I do medical thriller.
i was uncomfortable with one scene that came close to describing sex due to my Christian sensitivity to these things. Otherwise, I was entertained by this story.

‘One Hospital Nightmare’ is not a book for those who have a phobia about hospitals! I found this story to be creepy and mind-bending without being gory or over-the-top. The author has written a clever blend of history and horror as those at Battlefield Memorial Hospital have found themselves under a curse. This curse has then reenacting the 170 year old battle between the Comanche and the citizens of Texas, but the story is told in a way where the reader, as the patient, doesn’t know what is real and what is make-believe until the end. ‘One Hospital Nightmare’ will definitely have you looking over your shoulder and not wanting to go to the hospital any time soon…

This is a really quick read. It was a little slow in the beginning, but it does pick up. The bug part creeped me out, but only because I hate bugs. There wasn't gore, or any really scary parts, unless you can't handle hospitals.
