When Jonah was eighteen he took a risk. A risk that changed his life. When Olivia was sixteen someone else took a risk. A risk that changed her life. Jonah wants out of a life he never wanted to be a part of. Olivia wants something more out of life.
When Jonah meets Olivia he knows he is no good for a girl like her but he just can’t stay away. Trouble is Jonah is mixed up in a bad business. Bringing Olivia into his life would mean lies, secrets and possible danger. Can Jonah take that risk?
When Olivia meets Jonah it’s love at first sight. From the start Olivia has a feeling Jonah is hiding a big secret and since the death of her brother Olivia leaves no room for secrets in her life. Can Olivia risk letting go of a past event to find love with Jonah?
While Jonah struggles with the decision to bring Olivia into his life or not a rival business brings back someone from Olivia’s past that will put Jonah and ultimately Olivia in life threatening danger.
Can Jonah and Olivia find love and if so, is the risk worth it?
Wow ok, pretty good drama, mystery, action and romance book here.
Blurb: Jonah and his cousin Denny live with Jonahs old foster home friend Mason. Jonah and Denny work for Dennys Uncle Vinnie- a drug lord. They handle the money side of the business and are also debt collectors. On a chance encounter, Jonah meets Olivia. Olivia (who is a pretty cool girl) is in college and is studying to be a vet, her brother Alex passed away 4 years ago from an overdose. So that’s where the conflict lies; Jonah keeps his job a secret, he is convinced once Olivia finds out what he does for a living she will leave him. But Olivia is keeping secrets of her own.
Now, writing too much about this book will give away the plot. There is a lot of mystery, bad guys (quite a few names, sometimes hard to keep up with), some violence and a little humour.
Things that I loved about this book: Great girl for lead role (doesn't happen often, they are usually boring) Fun events such as a drinking game, sexy dancing and Xmas tree shopping Jonah's really hot with a tongue piercing The bad guys are really bad :) Olivia grows to love Denny and Mason like family, and wants to fix them, like animals at the shelter she works in (they have no love or ever had a good home)
The whole mystery behind everything is really what keeps the book going.
You will like this if; you love a lot of drama and mystery, hot guys and bad guys, some violence and a bit of fun.
You will not like this if; you dislike violence, your book has to have more than a couple (and not very descriptive) sex scenes or soppy romance.
This book was so good! I finished it in one day, I was up all night finishing it. I enjoyed most of it, at times it was a little confusing but still good! It reminds me a little tiny bit of Crow's Row by Julie Hockley and Sempre by J.M. Darhower.
Ok, now I'm making myself mad. This has been a really bad 48 hours for me, I seem to keep picking really crap books. This is not just me been picky this is down to bad writing AGAIN! Ok let me show you a few...... I'll copy and paste so you can see for yourself.
"I’m standing her with the most beautiful woman I’d ever seen and even though I haven’t had you yet I know your going to be the sweetest woman I’ve ever had."
ANYONE ELS SEE THE PROBLEM THERE?
“Do you want to undress me Olivia?” Jonah whispered against the nape of neck biting down softly.”
WHAT ABOUT THERE??
Now people may think I'm just been a little picky here, but I'm not. It may only be a missing letter, missing word or a complete different word to what it was suppose to be. I know this, the problem is that there's at least one of these mistakes on nearly ever page!! I'm having to guess at what's happening some times and it's pissing me off something chronic...
The story is happening way to fast, I'm only about 20% in and there madly in love already. The girl has cried around 15 times, all it ever says is "Tears ran down her cheek," or "I'm crying again," or "He wipes the tears away from my eyes," haha nothings even happened yet and the bitch will not stop fucking blubbering????
This book was rushed, it feels like the author knew what she wanted the ending to be like so she just filled the rest of the book with crying. She dint even go back to check things were spelt correctly before she published it. There's no way she would have missed this many mistakes if she had, unless she can't spell and was leaving it to spell check to do the job.
I'm a little bummed now, I was looking forward to this book : /
WOW!Just WOOOW! 5 big awesome stars! I just loved this one! I'm big big sucker on fighters and mobsters, and this one have one huelva piece of ass! There was just the right amount of everything I love in books. Lovable characters, nice storytelling, bat shit crazy mobsters and most important mad ass posessive alpha hero!
Our hero Jonah is all in one!Tall, sexy, tattoed, pierced and protective as hell! What girl in the right mind will tell no to that!No one, ever! It was a quick read,i finished it in one sitting. Book is written in dual POV so it's easy to see what's in head both of our heroes. Olivia is much younger than Jonah(jailbait, acording to her,son of a piiip, father) but still smart enough to pull the main role and... (can't say-read the book) She has troubled past just like Jonah and they are so sweet together!
And Denny,oh sweet Denny, was awesome too...just can't wait to read his book! Hope all the guys get their storys,Mason and Shark too... This was a one sweet book!
Great read. Olivia was a good female lead for being only 19yrs old. Jonah was just hot and who wouldnt fall in love with him. I felt sorry for him though, he was only doing what he thought was right but in the end all those secrets would .... (cant tell!!).
All the 'boys' especially Mason and Denny - deserve their own stories. I know the next book is Denny's - i hope Mason gets one too and even Shark. Supporting characters were good.
It was a great read and I was actually story I finished it. I hope we still see more of Olivia and Jonah thru out the series, every deserves a HEA thru all that darkness.
UPDATE - just read on the authors website that the boys are getting their own books!! YAH!! Denny, Mason, Nick & Shark are getting books. Cant wait :)
The first 30% was weak. Insta love plus poor writing and terrible editing had me gritting my teeth.
BUT once the story started to kick in and the relationships between everyone developed, it actually got kind of good. It was interesting and exciting and fast paced and I liked the way everything ended. Maybe it's just because I'm a sucker for a mafia related storyline? I don't know, it definitely redeemed itself in the second half.
If only Samantha would have spent a little more time letting the characters fall in love believeably and checking for grammatical errors, it could have been awesome.
I am not sure really how to rat this book. I liked the jist of the story, and I think that there is potential for more from these two. My biggest problem I guess is that the flow of the writing was a little off for me. Also the book needed some serious editing; mispelled words, missing punctutation and missing words littered this book. Serious use of a Thesaurus would be warranted! Also the constant verbal reference to "taking the risk" got a little old. At any rate, it was a good story, just did not get my heart pumping I guess.
I’d taken a lot of risks in my life and almost all of them were bad but the risk I took back in Club Risk that led me to this moment was the best risk I’d ever taken and would be for the rest of my life.
I loved it..thank god i took a good risk to read this. Yeah finished my first book for this year. Looking forward to read Daddy's baby-Denny'story
To start, I’m not usually a fan of crime, drug, mafia, or gang books but I took a chance with this book and I’m really glad I did. I loved the romance between the two main characters and I especially loved Jonah. I was also impressed with how much I liked Olivia. I usually find the female characters irritating, but I liked Olivia, I thought she was funny and very brave. It also made me laugh how much she cries. I also liked how the character's relationship wasn't put on hold for weeks over the main issue in the book. They both knew what they wanted and returned to each other quickly, which I liked. I think it's more accurate. I liked the dangerous parts of the book and I'll admit even the age difference between Olivia and Jonah was pretty hot. Their relationship is flat out hot. I loved the supporting characters as well. There are many comments about grammatical errors throughout the story, and I'll say they were slightly annoying, but they book was so good I almost looked passed them. Almost. I really do think the author should fix that though, it's not just once or twice it's very constant. The reason I gave it four stars was partly because of the grammatical errors and also partly because some twists at the end are so ridiculous, they're almost funny. One twist in particular is really funny. I found myself laughing at a serious part in the book. And also, I felt the relationship moved quickly, but it's still a fictional story so that's just an opinion, it doesn't affect the story much. But other than that, the book was great. The romance and "love" scenes were spot on and well written. I would recommend this book to anyone who loves a thrilling romance story, and who also doesn't mind some grammatical errors.
Risk was a nice change up in content from some other romance novels I have been reading. I love when there's a bit of suspense and danger involved. Risk follows Olivia after she meets Jonah at a run-in on campus. It's lust at first sight and the two have an intense connection from the beginning. Throughout their relationship, secrets from both there pasts are revealed and Olivia has to decide if taking Jonah is worth the risk despite his ties to the events that haunt her the most.
For the most part, I did enjoy this book. I was entertained with the storyline enough to finish it within a few days. I liked that there was a bit of intrigue and mystery that enfolded with secrets being revealed. Rarely are romance novels having so much suspense and twists so I really liked that aspect. On the other hand, I didn't find this romance as touching as some others I have read, but it was still sweet. I tend to have a hard time really falling in love with characters who meet and are instantly soul mates. For me personally. it's always a hang up of mine.
My biggest frustrations came from the editing and grammar. There were so many errors. Usually I give books a pass, but the shear volume of them in this book starting to become distracting. Also, the wordplay of using risk any chance the author could throw it in started to get a little cheesy.
Overall, I thought it was a quick entertaining read, and if you can get past my little hiccups, I think you'll enjoy the story for what it is!
My kind of story, so far..... Especially with a man like Jonah...
.....I previously gave the story 4 stars, i'm backing it up to 3.5. Picky? I know. But once Olivia and Jonah were together and a couple, the story kind of faded off for me. It's still a good story. The plot keeps you wanting to know what happens and who's who. Some editing mishaps...commas make a huge difference in a sentence. At times, i had to reread a few lines so they would make sense. Overall an above average read for me. Not regretting the purchase or the time spent reading it. I just enjoy a little more angst, jealous man, and the heart wrenching "when will they realize they are in love", type story line. I know i sound like a masochist, but i love when the couples journey to HEA takes up the entire book! Bring on the heartache and the badboys who need to be save by true love!!! LOL!
I LOVED this book!!!! Such a good read. I agree that it could use some work, but at the end of the day I can over look the editing stuff as the storyline and the characters were just soo good. I fell in love with all the boys, not only were they hot but they also had heart. Can’t not wait for Daddy’s Boy (Denny’s book). This book wasn’t the longest book in the world, it didn’t have the greatest editing and it was a little rushed in some places but I fell in love with absolutely everything, the boys (Jonah, Denny and Mason) Olivia, Miss Daisy, the twist and turns (Freaking Nick! Did not see that coming) (I even liked Vinnie, well I liked him as a bad guy) Favorite part of the book would have to been when Olivia found out about Jonah (The part with Olivia and Jonah outside Vinnie’s house had me holding my breath!) I am really looking forward to where this series goes. It’s the author’s first book so the best is yet to come!
1. There were POV changes but you were never, ever, not even once informed whose point of view you were reading; 2. the grammar was so bad and the lack of punctuation caused so many run on sentences; and 3. this book was so unnecessarily long for the story (combined with the subpar writing and the punctuation, or lack thereof) that I completely lost interest within the first like 25%.
I think all this book needed was an editor and it would've been a pretty good mafia read. But it just felt like the author wrote this in her notes on her iPhone and then published it without rereading. I will definitely be reading Denny's story though since he was one of my favorite characters... I'm just praying that Grady finally got an editor for that one.
This was a really quick read with an awesome story line and I loved the characters, especially Mason. I really want Mason to be able find and accept love. Jonah and Denny were pretty amazing too. The one draw back to this book was the poor editing. It almost made it difficult to read because some of the sentences just didn't makes sense. There were just a lot of misspelled words and misused words throughout the book.
I am going to rate this book with four stars because the storyline was awesome and the characters amazing. I would have given it a five if it didn't have so many editing issues.
I was hoping for something like Sempre and Crow's Row and did not get it here.
This was insta-love without me understanding where it was coming from. I did not get what they loved about each other when they barely knew anything about each other. Olivia gave him "everything" without knowing anything about him. Madly in LOVE at 20%...huh? They were apart for 18% of it.
Characters and their behaviors were very immature.
Very disappointed.
You may love it. This is just my opinion. It could have been so good, but the execution was weak.
Risk was a really good book. I started after dinner and ended up staying up half the night as I just couldn’t put it down. It’s the kind of book that you have to finish fast. The pace was perfect, I hate books that take forever to get to the point or the good stuff. This book got right to the heart of the story with no dragging on at all. Loved Jonah and Olivia but Shark is the one I fell in love with. A great start to a new series and a really good set up for all the other books in the series. I also think the author did a really good job writing for the new adult group.
I didn't like it very much.. The story itself was nice, but I didn't quite like the writing style and some of the characters.. I actually got very confused in many occasions as I think some parts were not explained as they should have.. It's a shame, because I'm still very curious about what could happen next, but I'm pretty sure I would not continue this series right now.. maybe I will pick it up in the future.. 1.5 stars
I really liked Risk and I really, really liked that it was different. I found only a couple of editing problems, nothing like others are saying. I think I liked Risk better because it wasn’t sex crazed and the male lead wasn’t so controlling that he was a jerk. Also if you haven’t gotten Risk yet but your going to read it get it today its free.
Love set against the backdrop of the mafia. That's super fresh. Haven't read a romance involving organized crime before do that was cool. Jonah was a super duper fly male character. I totally fantasized about him. Olivia was ok. Sometimes she annoyed me but in the end she put her life on the line for love so that's hard core.
Well this book had potential, but for me I did not like it. I felt like I read every good part about my favorite books and they were all mashed weirdly into this book. I was confused through most of it and most of it just didn't add up. I'm just going to leave my review to that.
I have a hard time getting into a book when the characters who have never met suddenly love each other after one night of sex. Then they talk to each other like they have known each other forever . Maybe it's just me but I just couldn't enjoy it because the characters together just seemed fake.
