Growing up as a guy is tough. Here are nineteen funny, fascinating, totally original works about boys tackling the tricky years that separate a child from a man. Jane Yolen spotlights the beginning of an Olympic dream; Jaime Adoff offers the music of a young poet facing rough streets; Barbara Robinson captures the tenderness between a boy and a most unusual pet; Ron Koertge explores the weird world where guys and girls meet. From futuristic to familiar to far-out, the voices of clever, hopeful, courageous young men shine in this eclectic celebration of boys on the verge.
Sandy Asher, a playwright and children's author, is probably best known for her young-adult novels and other prose works for young readers. Drawing many of the ideas and characters for her writings from her childhood memories, Asher has earned critical praise and numerous awards for novels such as Just like Jenny, Things Are Seldom What They Seem, and Everything Is Not Enough. In addition to fiction, Asher has also edited the story collections On Her Way: Stories and Poems about Growing up Girl and the award-winning With All My Heart, with All My Mind: Thirteen Stories about Growing up Jewish, which collect works that address many of the same adolescent concerns Asher confronts in her fiction.
DUDE! by numerous authors Over all I really liked this book, maybe its because I am a dude myself. ;) I liked this book because it really was diverse and never had a boring moment. This specific story I will speak of took place in a forest village by a river. The main characters in this book consist of, The buffalo skin boy and the water panther. The conflict in this story is the tribe needs to make a sacrifice to the gods because they are in a drought, so they choose to make the buffalo skin boy come with them to and island, then they abandon him as the sacrifice. The water panther likes to eat humans but needs to stay in the water so he devises a plan. He thinks they want the boy back so he offers to give him a ride back to trick the people into him being their friend. The buffalo boy accepts his offer; but the panther asks for him to tell the panther if the north star can be seen, he does, so the panther goes back immediately. They do this many times before the boy doesn't say anything. Then a star god comes and shoots the panther with an arrow. I would certainly recommend this book to boys. I would recommend this book to Joey L. I would recommend him this book because 1: he is a guy and 2: This is the kind of stuff he likes.
This book has 19 stories, poems, and plays. Some funny, some interesting, and some teaches a life lesson. This book is basically stuff for guys. In one story, The Tower is about a boy who is facing his fears. His dad, his step mom are going to a beach to see live alligators. After that, they went to the beach and there it was, a 30-foot high tower that leads down to the ocean. It is rumored that one man injured his spine when jumped the tower. The boy dares himself to jump from the tower and conquer his fears.I thought that was the best story because I wanted to do that while I was reading> In one of the stories, there is a boy who started in a new school and has no friends. I can connect to that because when started in a new school, I had no friends, some time passed before I made a few friends. But now I have lots of friends. I thought that some of the stories were good, but some of the stories were corny. I recommend this book to anyone who read " The dangerous book for boys". Also to anyone who likes side stories.

This book is chock-full of coming of age stories for boys. The authors tell them that their feelings that they fell are good and they understand the transition the boys are going through is normal. The challenges that lie ahead are presented in easy-to-relate-to scenarios. I thought this book would be a good resource for the early-bloomer and the energetic boy in the class.
This is an OK book. It has lots of short stories and the three stars came from the half of the book thats good. The rest isn't bad but it's not good either.
I really hated this book becuase it was sooooooooo corny! I ditched it on page 100. Out of the 6 stories I read, I only somewhat enjoyed one of them. Corny and meant for younger readers.
