Violent nomads. The coming winter. Jack's unspoken feelings. Leaving the relative peace of the settlement is more difficult than Terra ever imagined. But what she should fear most is the government that professes to protect its citizens. Imprisoned in a labor camp, Terra learns just how much the corrupt regime wants absolute control. Never has she felt more powerless to act. But there's always the call of the ocean, and her captors just might underestimate how powerful that call can be.
Away from her writing, Annie is the mother of the most adorable girls in the world, has the best husband in the world, and lives in one of the prettiest places in the world (the Wasatch mountains are breathtaking!). She loves to cook, sing, play the piano, and participate in community theater.
Infraction is action packed right from the start, and really kept me engaged in the story and the lives of the characters. There are new characters introduced, and each one has significance to the story. I would have loved to see more of Jack. I missed him. The ending wasn't totally what I wanted, but I'm not worried as the series isn't done yet. I think there is so much still yet to come, and I'm anxious for more!
I'm so excited to be a part of this blog tour for Infraction. I've been wanting to read this series, which starts with The Burn, for awhile. Luckily for this tour I got to read BOTH The Burn and Infraction. Awesome!
The Dystopian genre is big right now. I've read quite a few books in this category and this one is one of my favorites.
The main character, Terra, is one courageous chick. When she lost her ability to speak, I was worried that the book would suffer. How does a girl that cannot speak communicate effectively with others push a book plot along? Especially a dystopian book which are usually known for their action and uprising. Somehow Annie Oldham does it though. You'll be surprised. Terra has heart. That is what draws the reader in and that is what connects her to the other characters in this book.
Like any great dystopian, the government corruption is believable and scary. You know it could be real someday. That's the freaky good thing about dystopians. The idea in this book about the methods of control are good. Yikers!
There are great supporting characters in this book as well as two worlds, one on land and one under the ocean, brought together. I really like the ocean colonies and I'm excited to see how those two worlds mesh together in the next book. I'm anxious to know where this story is going. I know there is more to this- an even bigger picture that I haven't gotten yet. Infraction sure ended abruptly. I thought for a minute that I was missing part of the book, but no. It just ended that abruptly. I guess I was just ready for the book to go on and on. :)
"Infraction" starts where "The Burn" leaves off. Jack and Terra have left the school and have since been holding out not far away. The comfort of friends close by makes them feel safer. That is until the night nomads find their packs in the woods. By hiding in the brambles they escape their detection. Shortly there after they are captured and taken to a detention center where they meet others like themselves, captured by the government and used as slave labor.
What are the doctors and agents up too? Why are only some of the prisoners given Vaccines? Where are the children? Why is the Doctor so nice to her and mean to everyone else? How can Terra, Jack and the others escape before something happens, like the doctor killing Terra with the shots he keeps giving her because she was not raised in a sanctioned city?
"Infraction", Annie Oldham's second book in The Burn Trilogy, is just as great as the first book, "The Burn". It also will leave you gaping at the end with surprise. Whether you like the ending or not you will have to agree it is a fantastic way to leave you hungering for more. Lucky for us the third and final book in the trilogy, "The Reaping" is available for you to download immediately to read. Trust me when I tell you that you will not be disappointed in "The Reaping" either.
Annie is an incredible writer. Her novels always suck me in so completely. I've had the opportunity to review several of her novels and have loved every single one of them. She is definitely a writer that I'm going to be keeping tabs on.
I helped Annie with this book by providing a light copyedit. However, as I was going along, I found myself having to remind myself not to get caught up in the story and to keep editing.
Her characters are brilliantly developed, her plot is beautiful, and the pacing is excellent.
This is the second book in a series that I both love and recommend. This one is definitely worth reading.
I rather enjoyed Infraction and liked how it began. The relationship/friendship between Jack and Terra takes place while they’re surviving on the run from the government who wants to capture everyone not under their control. Much of the novel was interesting, especially when the inevitable happened and they became captured. I started wondering what was to happen next and questioning a variety of new characters’ loyalty.
The part I least liked was the ending. I was happy with how the situation unfolded until the end and the choices that Terra made independently. Overall, I give the book a four out of five stars!
An excellent follow up to 'The Burn'. I personally enjoyed this more than the first book and found it to be a real page turner. Terra & Jack are free however they are then detained by the New America Soldiers/Agents and moved to a labour camp where most of the novel is set. What follows is a good dystopian narrative. I have read some reviews saying the ending is too blunt however I feel it's a good way to wrap up the story, it's not a cliffhanger, resolves the current story arc whilst leaving the opportunity for the story to continue.
Annie pens "Infraction" with a well developed plot and characters that are strong. Full of action and adventure, the story was a bit different than what I am used to. Although I did enjoy the book, I found parts to be a bit slow in pace.
This review is based on a complimentary copy which was provided for an honest review.
Very good sequel to The Burn. Unlike the first book the 2nd half of Infraction didn't seem nearly as rushed and while you don't learn a tremendous amount about New America and its government, what you do find out is interesting. Great book.
Terra and Jack have now been imprisoned and find out how life is really like on the Burn. Prisoners are being used as guinea pigs for some kind of loyalty drug. Terra must escape and comes up with a plan. Will it work and can she save Jack and her friends?
A wonderful continuation of Burn. Heartbreak and struggles, desperation and love in a world where survival is key. It is everything you would expect in a dystopian story.
This book was filled with action. I was blown away about much I enjoyed this book as much as I did the first one. I was on the edge of my seat wondering what would happen to Terra and her friends. It was a good second book for a series.
This is a series by Annie Oldham which provided many hours of good reading. Of all the books I have read this series was one of the best. I didn't want them to end.
