Emily, David, Mason, Lisa and Mark head to the California coast to find a boat back to Canada. They all felt that it would be much easier and quicker to sail home rather than go over land with the others. They were wrong. The trek through the lawless city to get to the coast is only the first step. Hardship and loss await as the teens struggle to overcome both the challenge of the journey and threats from within. The trip home will change them all - for good or bad, as the stranded teens make for home by SEA.

I was a little apprehensive about this book. I knew I would like it, because I loved Land but I already didn’t like the characters based on what little I had seen of them in the beginning on Land.
However, Shaver once again shows her skills through the development of her characters. Outside of Emily and David I wanted to throttle the other 3 teens within the first chapter, but as the story progressed so did each character. This didn’t have all of the lighthearted laughter that filled Land, but it was a good contrast. It shows how teens who don’t have a lot in common on the outside still find common ground and work together to survive. Shaver admitted that Land was initially easier to write, and I think it’s because that group had all grown up together (outside of Cooper) so they had a solid history. Sea, was a different dynamic in the fact that David and Emily didn’t really know who they were traveling with and have the automatic trust from years of friendship. I appreciated the strength everyone showed, and the way that they refused to accept defeat even through all of the challenges they faced. However, in a world where only “the strong survive” will all 5 teens manage to survive? And if so, at what price to their humanity…….. Read the book to find out, trust me it’s worth it!!
I really like that Emily was reflecting on her friendship with Alex and that Shaver kept the “Land group” incorporated through various stories and the encounter with Alex’s brother (who I’m guessing may pop up again in Home). Shaver does a great job of having strong female characters, in this case Emily and Lisa, who show their vulnerability but also their resilience and bravery in the face of adversary.
I can now say that I like the group from Sea, and am excited to see the join up with Alex and the rest of the gang!!
I think this book showed a realistic version of how even “good people” make bad decisions when they are fighting for survival and their family. It’s sad, but true even in today’s society. Fans of Land will enjoy this book; just know it’s going to obviously be a very different dynamic than Land. One of the comments Mason made about, “it is a new world and he wants to be a new person,” resonated with me. In both books all of the characters had to change in different ways; new relationships are formed, strengths emerge, and everyone has a chance at a fresh start. This is the perfect set up for Shaver’s next book “Home.”
This was an enjoyable read, and now I’m going to be anxiously awaiting the 3rd book. Theresa, I hope you don’t mind getting an email everyday wanting an update!!! :)

I’m glad Shaver did her homework on all of the studying about ships, and then wrote her book “her way!” Characters are what drive most all of us to read, and Shaver excels at capturing our emotional investment in her characters.

A very difficult/depressing/frightening read, but I believe it very realistically portrays what this situation would be like. I definitely want to try to read the next book in the series,
now that they have made it home, however, not sure that I can take the depressing mood or cruelty/violence from some of the people they encounter!

Emily who was Alex’s best friend from book1, went with her boyfriend Mason and some of his friends to try and find a boat to get back to Canada 🇨🇦
Since they were stranded at Disney in LA. Her friend David only came to help keep Emily safe as he’s always liked Emily and he didn’t trust her football playing boyfriend Mason. Lisa is the only other girl she was a spoiled rich girl who at first I hated but she has real character development.
Tim was a man with a boat that was kind enough to let them on his boat, things were great for about 2 weeks. Then Lisa was raped at gun point by the other football player when everyone was sleeping and the next day he shot and killed the nice man Tim. Lisa took her revenge and killed the boy who raped her and killed Tim.
Shortly afterwards their boat was stolen when they tried to help a father and his two kids. They were left on a lifeboat until an older couple saved them. The man who stole their boat was in that community and the old lady made him apologize after finding out what he did to them. Her backstabbed the kids when he was told to give them 2 ATV’s with supplies to get back home, he let them have the supplies but not the ATVs.
The kids still made it back to town but Emily & Alex had to kill bad guys before finding out their town had been overwhelmed with these bad guys.

Really enjoying this series it’s a lot better than this other one I read recently where the dad was like GI Joe always the perfect survivalist and guns blazing from day 1. This series just seems a little more realistic.

I was kind of scared that I wouldn't like this book as much as the first seeing as how I only liked 2 out of the 5 MC's in the beginning. Plus the fact that the story started almost at the same point book 1 started...I had my doubts.
Happily I was wrong to have said doubts. It was once again an enjoyable read. The group dynamics in this work was very different from book 1. The 'land group' worked together with little to no conflict. They were supportive of one another, selfless and very task oriented. The 'sea group' was from the start combative. There was no true support and some of the teens were very selfish, snide and one even a psychopath.
Their road was also darker at times and less lucky. The struggles brought these teens together in the end plus they found the other group. The cliffhanger made me buy book 3 immediately.

After an EMP hit while they were on a class trip in California the students teacher encourages them to get home to Canada. Five students go by land and five go by sea. This is the story of those that go by sea.The chracters in this book are not as likable as the characters in Land. Although Emily is Alex's best friend she is definately not as strong as Alex. There is a lot more turmoil in this book that is caused by the characters personalities. That said, you also get to see the characters grow and show their true selves, some good, some bad.

Hard to put down
The second book in the Stranded Series was even better than the first. I found it a little more believable and the characters were developed a little more. It was hard to put down as there was a lot of suspense, plus the teenagers acted like teenagers with their drama.

Another good read in the Stranded series! This story follows the second group who forged out on it's own to find their way home by sea. Just as the 1st book in the series, these teens, while never knowing who to trust, grow up fast and learn hard life lessons while fighting for their lives just to make it home.

I liked Land so well, it prompted me to get the entire series. I can relate to all the characters. can't wait to see what's going on with the families. I also want to know what happened with the teacher. I bet her story would be gripping. This is a very good "coming of age" story.

Great sequel
The 2nd book in the series is as good as the first. Once again, I thoroughly enjoyed this book. Looking forward to the 3rd installment. As it is a sequel, it could still stand on it's own, although I recommend each book in order. Looking forward to #3.

A Teenager Is Dangerous with a Gun

Non stop action and a lot of changes.
When I started to read this I wasn't impressed

Still good
Can't wait to see what happens next! I'm starting to get so attached to the characters that I'm beginning to worry if they'll all make it to the end of the series. Gotta find out so I'm on to book 3!

Action packed, full of suspense, a lot of horrible imagery of what I am sure is exactly what will happen to humanity if some like this actually took place.
