Maurin Kincaide is back in this action packed follow up novel to The Morrigna. No longer a member of Salem's Preternatural Task Force Maurin is the new liaison for The Council, governing body of Others. During what should have been a routine meeting with her former Captain, Maurin is brought in on a murder investigation.
Three dead witches, three cryptic clues, no sign of the killers and the Salem coven is losing allies within the Council. If Maurin and her unlikely partner Captain Matthison can't stop the killers, the Witch City might be without its namesake.

I received Witch Hunt in return for an honest review from the author for the tour hosted by Bewitching Book Tours. Maurin survived her encounter with the tribune but has lost her job working with the Preternatural task force. However when witches start turning up dead her old boss turns to her for help solving the case. With her new job as liaison to the Council does have it’s perks she has connections to help her with the case. Teaming up with Mahalia and Mattison the trio set out to catch the killer before all the witches are taken out.
When they learn that it’s the inquisition a group of witch hunter using magic Mahalia decides that the only way to stop them is calling in a Necromancer but the vampires are less than thrilled. Still they allow the necromancer to come to town but with the understanding that she doesn’t mess with the vampires. As if Maurin doesn’t have enough going on Graives the necromancer has taken claim over her current love interest Oberon. At least he’s not the only man in town, and she may just find herself realizing her attraction is based on the goddess. Will they stop the witch hunters?
I like Maurin she is an interesting character who just keeps learning more and more about herself as the series progresses. First off I’m glad that the whole Oberon thing is over I didn’t care for the insta love thing but the more we learn about her connection to him it all works out. I like her new potential love interest much better, and I’m curious to see if it’s going to work out. I really like the other members of the council while this one is mostly about the witches we did have a little more about the vampires.
I started this one right after finishing the first in the series it starts just a few months after the big battle between the council and the tribune. She’s grown so much through the second book learn about her parents who she’s really meant to be. I find the concept for Maurin as well as the world that she lives in interesting, it’s unique and captivating. Witch Hunt is a fast paced action packed novel filled with just a little romance, a killer to catch and just enough suspense to keep me on the edge of my seat. I’ve become a huge fan of Maurin she’s a kick ass character who works with the supernatural and is an executioner. I love the authors storytelling it’s beautifully written flowing from start to finish. While this is only my 2nd book by the author I’m hooked on Maurin and can’t wait to read the next one. Highly recommend if you’re an urban fantasy fan.
Starting this book I was somewhat sceptical as to wether I would like it or not because the first book was only ok for me. I wanted to give it a chance though and I am sure glad I did! This book was SO much better than the first. Much easier to follow along and I can say that I really liked it a lot. The story made more sense and many questions I had from the first book were answered in this second book. I would recommend this book to anyone who likes paranormal/mystery books. If there are any more in this series than I will surely be on the look-out for them.

WOW, kept me on the edge of my seat and now I must wait to read the next adventure of trouble. Needless to say hurry up and write, will be spreading the word of this author.
Let me say first off that I liked this book. It's a paranormal/mystery/action/adventure tale. Maurin Kincaide is still learning about who she really is as she grows into her new identity and her new powers. When somebody starts killing the members of the Salem Coven she is called on to investigate. Maurin is a slightly different kind of hero. In Book One she merged with an Ancient Goddess, now she will learn many things about herself that she attributed to that joining are really her own latent abilities coming to light.
This book, separate from it's content, is an example of the two sides of digital publishing. On the one hand, it's a good story set in a decent series that might not have been published without the existence of digital media. On the other hand, it is riddled with the kind of errors in grammar, punctuation, and usage that a printer in the past would not have tolerated. Those kinds of errors in a print edition of 50 years ago would have been caught by a skilled editor. Any that slipped through would have started the book on the road to being collectible. I admire anyone who can spin a coherent and interesting story, but why let your work be spoiled by a litany of mistakes? Is the extra time and expense of solid editing so costly? Or is there just a shortage of good editors, or even good proof readers?
A great continuation of the first story about Maurin the witch. Extremely happy to have been of help reviewing as I just loved the book and am ready for the next. It definitely keeps your interest and it's impossible to put it down until you're finished.
I liked the way Rachel makes the story believable when it isn't. I don't like the misspellings such as refuse where the word is really refuge. Puts a stop to the story line real quick. I enjoyed the multiple characters and their interactions
Bravo! A good fast read! now i am hooked. This was such a great, easy and creative book. i was hooked after the first page.
The characters were easy to fall in love with and follow, along with the story. the author made the mental visions so easy and vivid of the surroundings and the characters actions felt so real.
i would highly recommend this author and this book.
Months after the events in The Morrigna, Maurin Kincaide is still adjusting to her new position as the Liaison for the Council, the ruling body of Others. When a serial killer starts targeting the witches, Maurin finds herself partnered with her old boss at the precinct in an effort to find the responsible party. With the coven being less than forthcoming with information and the Council’s impatience with the coven, Maurin must put together the pieces while keeping herself out of trouble. Help in the form of sexy Irish vampire Aidan, the curiously nice wolf Cash, and a very unexpected source push Maurin to find the answers she is looking for, but not without great cost that will change her increasingly bizarre life.
Witch Hunt is more than a worthy follow up to The Morrigna; it surpassed it in every way. Rawlings has found her voice and it is strong, creative, and darned entertaining. The pacing was pitch perfect, giving the reader just enough room to breathe and absorb any given moment. There were some genuine twists I did not see coming at all, and some heartbreaking moments—an impressive feat in that we are only in the second novel of this series. Witch Hunt will grab you from the first page and leave you wanting more in the very best way.
Maurin is a heroine after my own heart. I think my favorite thing about her is that she gets mad and is not afraid to let people know when she is. I was not sure I like her when we first meet in The Morrigna, but Witch Hunt solidified her personality. I feel for this woman, I want her to vanquish her foes and be able to get a good night sleep! I am emotionally invested in her journey.
We see some fantastic development in the secondary characters, like Cash, and are introduced to some very intriguing new characters, namely Aidan (yum!) and Conry (whom I already love). Rawlings continues to build her world with a close look at the coven and the introduction of the Fey in an incredibly efficient manner. Focusing on one group of the supernatural collective really helped center the storyline.
This really is a much smoother and more polished offering, and if it is any indication of where this series is going, I fully expect to Maurin’s name up there with the likes of some of my favorite heroines.
Witch Hunt is the second book in the Maurin Kincaide series by Rachel Rawlings. Even if you haven’t read book one, The Morrigna, you can jump into the series here. Rawlings gives the reader enough background information to get going.
This isn’t a long book, but it’s not so short that I would call it a novella. Whatever you call it, it’s a quick read because it’s not very long and it’s fast paced.
I thought Witch Hunt was much better than the first book. It was more focused and had less of Maurin’s internal rambling.
Two problems for Maurin to overcome were quickly introduced, and she got right onto trying to fix them. One of them, the mystery of who is killing the witches and why, is challenging and dangerous.
I liked that Maurin isn’t all-powerful. Although she can heal herself to an extent, she still has some close brushes with death. She also struggles to figure her new powers out. They don’t always work the way she would want them to.
There’s a lot of tension and conflict in this story, just like there was in the first book. It also has a strong mythological base like the first book did.
Witch Hunt, however, has more relationship drama and issues between the preternatural species. There was more mystery, deception, and secrets. There were even some parts where I laughed, which balanced the tension nicely. I loved this book from start to finish.
I don’t have anything negative to say. Sure, there was one misspelled word. That’s so minor. It was a very well-written book. I enjoyed it just as much as I have enjoyed books by big-name authors like Patricia Briggs or Kelley Armstrong. Some parts reminded me a little of Kim Harrison. I strongly recommend people read Witch Hunt if they like urban fantasy with a sassy and stubborn lead woman, physical attractions mixed with a little romance, and lots of action. I give Witch Hunt five stars.
Well, I wasn't expecting that. So, with the ending of the last book, things got complicated. Maurin is now a part of the council and is a liason between the police and the council. So when witches are being tortured and murdered, things are getting out of hand. It needs to be stopped. Asap. And there's no one else who can do it. The witches may have the know how, but are also the most vulnerable because they are the targets with weapons pointed directly at them. And let me tell you, this one is going to blow your mind, because the witches, even the good guys, are bad here. There was some seriously crappy back stabbing going on and poor Maurin got used in it. I felt really bad for her.
Maurin is learning more about her powers. She is also learning she can't go back. She is sinking more and deeper into the supernatural world. She is no longer a human with a small gift on the outside. She is at the center of the supernatural world. And the damn races are fighting over who is going to use her, and her powers specifically, to give themselves a power boost. It's kinda sad. She is now surrounded by people and she can't trust any of them. Before, she really didn't have anyone. Oh and she finds out who her family is. Um, yeah, mind blowing her. I am still in shock. LOL
With that said, I am falling more and more into loving this series. I look forward to seeing where this one is going to go next and I can't wait to see what the hell is going to happen because I KNOW Cash has something up his sleeve, Aiden can't be the most perfect thing since bacon was discovered, Oberon is still alive, and the crazy vampers are still whispering behind Maurin's back. Yeah, there's more to come, and I can't wait!!! 5 PAWS!! Gimme!
This is the second book in The Maurin Kincaide series by Rachel Rawlings. I will say it can be read alone but you are missing Maurin's growth and the changes going on around her. So, read it from the beginning if you can it's an awesome series.
Trouble is brewing again in the fine town of Salem and for some reason yet again Maurin is smack dab in the middle of it. As the new laison with the between the police and the Council, she finds herself butting heads with some of her former co-workers. The police find three dead witches, and the local witches coven is in trouble, and then to top it off she is having communication issues with the Council.
Ride along with Maurin as she fights demons, the police, and the council in an attempt to find the killer and save herself and her friends. It's an action packed page turning ride. Ms. Rawlings pros will drag you in and keep you reading even if you want to put it down - let the dinner burn. It's a wonderful next step, and I can't wait for the 3rd installment (note - I understand the author has released the first 3 books in the series as a set).
If you are looking for a darkish, action packed paranormal urban fantasy - the series is a keeper!
The first book may not have been what everyone expected, but it totally served it's purpose to set the stage and provide the background. In Book 2 Witch Hunt we are on to the action! If you love paranormal stories this is one for you! You have it all romance, action, imminent danger and of course supernatural beings! Maurin Kincaide is on a journey to find out exactly what she is, as she is not fully human with these super healing qualities & psychometric abilities she has. As her journey to find herself continues she get further involved with the Council and realizes that although she thought the Coven was her friend that there were really ulterior motives to Mahalia's monopolizing of Maurin's time and although her mind is telling her to follow her gut she trusts the relationship with the Coven only to be pulled in so deep she almost doesn't surface. But she is a butt kicking supe who ends up hot for Aidan a stealthy and necro-protected vamp and the two come together to find a way out of this crazy situation the Coven has gotten her into. What remains to be seen is HOW the Coven will deal with Maurin's wrath and boy does she have one. MUST READ!!!! CANNOT WAIT FOR MORE!!!
I am not much of a book reviewer, however I can tell you what I love and don't like about a book. So, with that said What I loved about the book is the characters. They were so awesome and believable it was almost as if you could put yourself in their shoes and become them. This book is so full of twists and turns you don't know what will happen next. Always keep in mind that people are not what they seem.
Here is some insight about the book Maurin Kincaide who is now part of the paranormal council is assigned to try and help find who is killing witches. A serial Killer perhaps who knows? All she knows is she needs to figure it out before anyone else dies that she likes. I won't say anymore I hate to spoil anything.
Now what I didn't like about the book was that it had to end. The ending was such a surprise. I have to say this book to me would be very difficult to write to keep you on your toes and keep you guessing all the way to the end and Rachel Rawlings did just that. I don't think many authors can pull off what she did. This is an amazing book and series and I am highly addicted and can't wait to read her next installment of this series.
Maurin Kincaide finds herself in trouble once again in beautiful Salem. Her new job for the council entails working with her former police colleagues, or maybe butting heads with her former police colleagues would be a better way to phrase it.
The police find three young witches heinously murdered. The Salem Coven is in trouble, and the council seems to be less than cooperative in finding the killer. Things aren’t anything close to obvious as Maurin path leads her into a search for the demon killing the coven members, before they can kill Oberon.
This is a fast paced journey that keeps you wondering what on earth is going to happen next. Maurin learns a whole lot about herself in this part of her story. She learns a lot more about the members of the Council that she’s working for, or how some of them are using her.
I could not put this book down, and the ending has left me cursing that the third book isn’t already ready for purchase! I guarantee that it will be on my TBR list as soon as it comes out!
This was a great follow up to the first story in this series The Morrigna. In this installment we get to watch Maurin learn more about her new found powers and kick some serious butt to boot. This story is filled with intrigue, betrayal and new love. Maurin has just settled (or as much as she can) into her new role as liaison between the human police force and the council of Other’s when she finds herself in deep trouble. She is kidnapped by an overzealous group who wants to be rid of the witches in Salem once and for all. While trying to figure out how to stop this group she learns some not so pleasant things about the people she thought she could trust and some very interesting things from people who she never would have thought of. This series is absolutely amazing and I cannot wait to see what happens in book 3. If you enjoy a hodge podge of supernatural creature in your reading then this is the series for you it has vampires, Fae, werewolves, witches demons and more. I hope you all enjoy this series as much as I have!
all I can say is wow. the second installment of the maurin kincaide books rocks. If you like action and a good dose of vampires, witches and werewolves. this is the book. What can I say someone is killing the witches of salem. And poor maurin in her position of council liason is there right in the middle of everything. Enter the sexy smexy werewolf and Aiden the hot sexy vampire. who is irish by the way . The demon tries to make mincemeat of poor maurin. and the ending what a twist . who knew. All I can say is Rachel when is the third book coming out. I am hooked big time. I strongly recommend this book to anyone who wants a great read . CHECK IT OUT you won't be disappointed
I loved it! The story line was so smooth. Character development was perfect! Witches, werewolves, vampires OH MY! Yes, there were even a couple devastatingly handsome Fey. There were no dull spots and constant action from first page to last! Everything was explained so well that you were never left with unanswered questions. I always say that the mark of a great author is when the reader can feel like he/she is IN the story, watching everything happen first hand. Rachel Rawlings has accomplished this in spades. I enjoyed Rachel's writing style and look forward to reading more of her work in the future.
I recently won copies of the first three books in this series in a blog competition, re-read the first and went straight onto the second, which was another great read. I really like Maurin's style of narrating her story as well as her sassy style. Enjoyed the fact that this second story was very different to the first, almost a detective story, to find the killers of the three witches whose bodies were found after their gruesome murders. Great mix of old friends, new friends and some double crossing. There's never a dull moment in Maurin's life so it's straight on to book 3 to find out what she's up to next.
I thought the first book was great so was looking forward to reading the next installments and wasn't disappointed. The story has the same characters in from the first book but is a totally different story from the first book, which appeals to me.
This book follows Maurin Kincade on another adventure but this one is about the witches of Salem. It's full of twists and turns and there's never a dull moment. I can't wait to read the next installment, the authors style of writing makes the books a pleasure to read, well done Ms Rawlings.
I loved this book. It has action, mystery, magic, vampires, werewolves, witches, demons, and fae. The characters are great and of course it has a great story line. I couldn't put it down and didn't want it to end. So get it you will be hooked and if you didn't get the first one then get it too enjoy reading.
The Morrigna was only somewhat interesting (and I'm blaming that on the other great books I've read recently.) This one was in different league altogether as I was hard pressed to put it down. Mayhem, mystery, tangled love and surprising twists abound. Enough dithering, I'm off to read the next one and you ought to consider joining my binge session too.
less whining...much better. heroine finds out who her biological dad is and he's pretty powerful. her love affair turns out to have been manufactured and her friends aren't really her friends and are trying to kill her.
I loved this action packed adventure. I was right there with Maurin through all the ups, downs and plot twists. I also have to admit I love the new characters introduced. I would definitely recommend this book.
The story is exciting and fast paced. There's a lot of twists and suspense. The editing is lacking though. A lot of sentences that don't make sense or misspelled words. Still I recommend it.
I enjoyed it so much I'm going straight onto the next book to find out what all on the characters in the story are up too lol. I'd like to say more but I have another book to read.
