When You Fall

Rate this book
Carter Nicole Woodson realized things had gotten out of hand as she stood in front of 300 guests, interrupting the wedding vows of her old boyfriend. Carter leaves the city and escapes to her family’s ranch. Her grandfather's words resonate in everything she does – when you fall off a horse…get back on. So after giving up on love and the never-ending search for a man, she begins to follow in her grandfather's footsteps—and follows her heart -- turning her life into something she can be proud of.
Rafael Antonio Garcia has always been in love with the land and its wide open spaces. A third generation Latino American and the youngest of seven successful brothers. Rafael follows his dream of owning his own organic, sustainable farm, complete with plants and livestock. Rafael has also had pressure from his family to marry and he will if she can get past his list of six basic qualities he wants in a wife. After all one woman is as good a stand in as another.
What Carter finds in Rafael is something she never expected--a kindred spirit who loves the land as much as she does. And Rafael realizes that not any woman—even if she meets his six requirements—will do. For him, the right woman makes all the difference in the world.

4 stars. Carter and Rafeal have a wonderful story. It is funny, and the characters are likable. I didn't like that her sister was used to make her jealous; there's this thing I hate; sisters dating or flirting with each other's beaus.

3-3.5-4

I loved the beginning of this book, I thought it was hilarious but then I began to not like it as much as I continued reading.

Carter got on my nerves, I couldn't stand it when her family put her down, she never said anything to defend herself, she made me so angry. Rafe (neighbour, farmer, friends with benefits) was a godsend, encouraged her to fight for what she wanted, even when she didn't want to hear it and walked away, he still persisted.

I'd say that the last 30 per cent of the book was where it picked up, grateful for that.

I awarded Rafe a star, hardworking man like that deserved it.

Ruthie Robinson did a wonderful job in writing about the quirky, comical Carter Woodson, daughter of a wealthy businessman who totally embarrasses herself in front of a church full of people when she interrupts her former boyfriends wedding to tell him to be with her. Carter quickly becomes an internet sensation and becomes "Crazy Carter". To escape the embarrasement she flees to her family's ranch, where she seeks refuge and meets her hunky neighbour Rafael Garcia.

Carter begins to reflect on her love of the ranch and the horses that were her passion. Rafael encourages her to return her to roots and her love of rebuilding the ranch and following her dream of raising and rescuing the abandon horses.

The instant connection between Carter and Rafael is sweet and sultry and Robinson does an amazing job of painting a picture of this sweet romance and showcasing the love between the two.

I really enjoyed this novel and felt that instant connection to Carter, and she had me laughing on many occasions. I really enjoyed the way the characters interacted and how Robinson used comedy to lighten the mood. Overall, this was a great read and for anyone who loves animals, comedy and characters who are bit quirky would enjoy this novel.

What a fun book! I normally am not a fan of Romance but this book was great. The character development is terrific, you can not help rooting for Carter as she makes her way through a life filled with twists and turns - all of which are very plausible and provide several surprises for the reader. Robinson is no slouch either - she has done her research and uses historical data to support the story line. Although the book is a quick fun read the plot manages to include a strong willed woman making a fool of herself and picking up the pieces, a freed slave who becomes the owner of a successful Horse Ranch, the role of an affluent black family in the 21st century as well as homosexuality, racism, organic farming and gender bias. This book has it all, even an ending that brings justice to all that deserve it. My only regret is that there are not more books with Carter as the main character.

It wasn't the worse

I loved Rafe and I sometimes liked Carter. Same for the plot, some parts I loved some parts were just alright. I will say that the characters this author creates are very different from each other. I liked the whole story here it's just that I felt awkward for the l leading female character sometimes. Maybe that's what the author was going for but I'd much rather just feel romance during love scenes and not awkwardness but I gotta say, the leading male character did save these scenes for me...So all in all the book was okay... Another thing I typically like that this author does, is not make the female lead character stubborn to the point of being annoying. She did a little of that in this book which was a bit bothersome..but it doesn't last long and the character recovers nicely...so like I said the story was just alright for me.

I'm giving this 3.5 stars. I liked it and the characters but didnt love them. Not sure why, Rafe is a sexy Latino and Carter is a beautiful black woman with spunk, there was just something missing. Story was good, bit of humor. Carter's family drove me crazy and her dad, well he sucked. Overall, a good read.

Carter had me laughing from the first chapter. She is incredible. I do not read much in this genre but after this book - I will be looking for this author. A great romance with a real story line and real people as the main characters! Oh and Rafael - well let's just say I will never think of farmers in the same way again!

A fun and sexy read. Good characters and lots of humor. I liked the way Carter found her strength and focus and her romance with Rafe was fun and steamy.
