Sophomore Emili Jones has had it with being a boring, straight-A student. Itching for excitement, she sees plenty of it in classmate Farah Menin’s life of frequent dates and edgy adventure. Hoping the popularity will rub off, Emili latches onto Farah and manipulates herself into best friend status. The connection helps her land the hot new guy, Lance Jankins, but there’s a catch. Now a pawn in Farah’s dating games, Emili is on a crash course to betrayal. Will she realize it in time to save herself?
My passion is writing! What could be more delicious than inventing new characters and seeing where they take you?
I am blessed to live in Indiana, a state I share with many Amish communities. (I find the best spices, hot cereal, and good cooking advice at an Amish store not too far away.)
I've lived in Honduras, Grand Cayman, and Costa Rica. One of my favorite activities is exploring other cultures. My husband, Paul, and I have two grown children and five precious grandchildren. I love to hole up in our lake cabin and write -- often with a batch of popcorn nearby. (Oh, and did I mention dark chocolate?) And I can often be found walking the beaches of Costa Rica.

Emili Jones, a sixteen year-old sophomore at Bates Academy wants a little more in life. She's given up her long-time friends to hang with the glamorous Farah. Now that an opportunity's come up to dump her rock-steady but kind of boring boyfriend Marc for the irresistable Lance, she doesn't hesitate. What follows is a cautionary tale of broken friendship, misplaced loyalty, and making choices that come with heavy consequences. A must-read for any young person who is inclined to take what they have for granted in pursuit of something, or someone, "better." After all, Emili got what she'd been hoping for, but was it all worth it? Find out in The Lance Temptation.
I finished The Lance Temptation and immediately started reading the sequel, Along Came Jordan. Emili wants to be popular with the boys, in particular with Lance. But when she becomes best friends with a fun party girl who can get her closer to Lance, her life becomes complicated. She messes up a close friendship, resorts to lying about things, and in the end must face a crucial decision and confrontation. This well-written book is spot on with the emotions, attitudes, and drama of high school. The next book picks up right where the first one left off, so I recommend reading both.
I loved this book, what I really love about it is that teens can relate to it. The book may help them feel like they are not alone and that these situations happen to others. And the way this book ends makes you want to read more, the second book is coming out soon. Dr. Brenda Maxfield is a great writer can't wait to read more book from her.
Read this series backward but still enjoyed it! All the drama and angst in the book are exactly what teens these days go through and the author brought that out quite well! The want and need to be popular never gets old. Aside from that we have betrayal, teen pregnancy, and problems in the home front, I look forward to reading more from this author.
The first YA book I have read as an adult and I must say I LOVED it :) Touching on real issues and emotions that teens have I thought the author did a fantastic job appealing to not only teens, but adults alike :)
