The first “Hill Spirits” anthology features work by 20+ writers from the Spirits of the Hills Writing Group. There is a diverse range of literary formats and styles represented – short stories, personal reflections, mini essays and poems as well as pencil sketches by one of the writers.

The contributions, by all appearances, were not written around a specific theme. But the editors have tied them together thematically around the “spirits” theme: Spirits of the Past, Community Spirit, The Loving Spirit, The Spirit Within, Shadow Spirits.

As is bound to be the case in an eclectic collection such as this one, I found some of the pieces more interesting and engaging than others. (Note: I will not comment on the poetry as I am not a poetry enthusiast and therefore not qualified to evaluate those pieces.)

It is safe to say that there is something for everyone between the covers of this anthology. Kudos to Blue Denim Press for supporting the work of this obviously thriving and productive writing group.
