After over a year together, Connor Morrison and Wes Martin decide to tie the knot. But an ethics complaint regarding their deeply non-traditional relationship threatens Connor’s job and Wes’s Ph.D. The fact that Connor tried to keep it from Wes—even with the best of intentions—makes the situation even worse and casts a pall over their plans for a Christmas wedding in New York.
It doesn’t help that Connor still treats Wes like glass, though Wes insists he’s recovered from the brutal assault he suffered a year and a half earlier. Wes may be okay, but Connor isn’t. Memories of taking a battered, terrified Wes to the emergency room that night still haunt him, and he can’t let go of the need to protect Wes from any and everything life might throw at him.
But Wes has had enough. Between the specter of the ethics complaint and Connor’s overprotectiveness, he’s already beginning to question their plans. Add in a family ashamed of and angered by his choices, and Wes might just leave Connor standing at the altar.
(Publisher's This title is a sequel to Priceless. For maximum enjoyment, we highly recommend reading Priceless first.)
If you're looking for epic sci-fi, fantasy, or historicals, that's not me. Contemporary all the way, baby!
However, if you're looking for down to earth, complicated characters dealing with real-world problems (and the occasional comfort read!), I might just fit the bill. :)

3.5 stars. I was happy to see Wes and Conner again. They are still feeling the effects from the events that took place in their book. I was actually happy to see this, as it meant they didn't just get over things that had such a huge impact on their lives. I think that Wes and Conner still have a bit more to work through before I feel comfortable that their marriage is strong enough to endure, but I was happy for them. Loved Wes' gift to Conner and how they realized they both were given the best gifts ever.
I did feel horrible for poor Wes when he was dealing with his "family" but was happy to see Dale there, even if he seems to be in not so great a shape. Maybe his story will be next? I hope so.
The thing is, I still think that the BIG issues (what with Connor being in indefinite suspension, the attack that hurt Wes in the previous book, Wes's bigot of family and his needs to get approval from them...) that lead to their blowout in NYC before the wedding are still hanging over their head.
I don't think it can easily be fixed with what we get in the end chapter. Maybe they need to take longer engagement, going to couple's therapy first, before they go ahead with the wedding.
So nope, I can't count this as HEA just yet (even if yes, they did get married). Maybe if there's a next book?
It was super fun to get back to Connor and Wes in this third installment of Cat Grant's 'Irresistible Attraction' series. It's now been a year that they've been in a committed relationship, they bought a home together, and they're planning to get married in New York at Christmas. What could possibly go wrong? I know better than to ask that question.
Just when the semester is done and they have a whole month together, Connor tells Wes that he's been brought up on an ethics charge because of his and Wes's relationship. It's ridiculous since Connor isn't supervising Wes's thesis and Wes isn't taking any of Connor's classes. Doesn't seem to matter, though, as someone has their panties in a twist over it and has complained. What's even worse is that Wes feels like this is a fight they need to face together and make decisions about their future together, but Connor seems to be taking over and, once again, treating Wes like he's made of glass. It's bad enough that Connor still treats him that way in bed because of the assault Wes suffered, but they're getting married and decisions that affect them both should be discussed.
There was some realistic drama and angst in this story that I'm glad Connor and Wes went through. I think it made their relationship stronger and got some issues out of the way before they tied the knot. Now I'm looking forward to the next book which is how Steve meets Gil. Can't wait!
NOTE: This book was provided by Riptide Publishing for the purpose of a review on Rainbow Book Reviews.
I wish it were a little longer. I wanted to read more about Connor's struggle with Wes's attack. I also wanted Wes's aunt to get what she deserved, but I guess I can use my imagination for when Dale gets home.
For a trip to NYC to get married during the Christmas holiday, this was a very angst ridden journey. I understand both sides of the argument, but I think these two needed a little bit longer of an engagement.
However, Connor has some issues to work through and Wes has some issues to work through, but they obviously love each other and I can not imagine them with anyone else. Plus, with another story in the future, maybe all their issues will be resolved.
This story is a pleasant and well-written sequel to Priceless and picks up shortly after the end of that book. There's a lot of drama and internal strife for Wes and Connor, both inside and outside their relationship, as they travel to New York to get married. These issues are both believable and handled in a mature way that reiterates the connection between these two.
The outside world invades the idyllic life Wes and Connor forged which puts their futures in jeopardy and in trying to protect Wes, Connor has again made Wes feel like the younger man he is. Wes just wants to be considered a partner to Connor and is tired of being treated with kid's gloves. He doesn't want to live in the past, he's all about moving forward and he wants to move forward with Connor. Connor's still stuck in the past though as he can't get over the trauma Wes went through. It's led him to be overprotective of Wes to the point of smothering. He keeps anything stressful away from Wes which almost puts an end to their happiness. Thankfully these issues are dealt with quickly and in a mature way through talking.
This was just a small speed bump in an otherwise joyous story with love scenes that were emotional but not too overtly sexual. Along with the two main characters we got a return visit from Steve, who was given his own book in this series, as well as being the catalyst to Wes and Connor meeting. We also get a visit from a family member of Wes' whose background story is shrouded in mystery but is surrounded by pain that has me intrigued. This is an immensely satisfying story with a likable cast of characters working hard for their HEA. It's a wonderfully heartwarming addition to the Irresistable Attraction series and I look forward to these continuing glimpses into the world of these science geeks.
I loved Priceless and it was really great to revisit Connor and Wes :)
The story has more conflict, than I initially thought, more conflicts, actually and I was beginning to worry about the wedding, but thankfully Dale gave Wes a peace of his mind and it all worked out at the end. The problems in the Wes and Connor's relationship felt real to me and therefore their reactions justified, it didn't seem like the conflict was just thrown in to support the plot. I also loved how the guys didn't magically heal, but rather started the process with being honest and actually talking with each other about their problems.
I'm still waiting for Steve's story, but I'd definitely love to read more about Connor and Wes :)
I'm really enjoying this series and was looking forward to the wedding. For a while there, I wasn't sure if there would be one. I hope Connor resolves some of his issues in the next installment. He may lose Wes if he keeps s"mothering" him.
Fearless is a great story of acceptance, leaving demons behind and committing to that one person who 'gets' you.
Connor and Wes have been together over a year when out of the blue troubles comes knocking. Connor has been accused of improper behavior and placed on indefinite suspension. He accepts that the chances of him returning to his job are slim, but he doesn't want Wes to worry about it. Ever since the events Wes went through last year, Connor has been determined to protect Wes and shelter him from anything that could hurt him. Wes is beyond happy that their relationship has moved forward, but he knows that Connor is still holding himself back. Even after continued reassurances that he is better, Connor continues to treat him like he is made of glass. This is made abundantly clear when Wes discovers that Connor has been keeping things from him months.
I enjoyed visiting with Wes and Connor. Wes has truly gotten over the events the previous year and it expectantly awaiting their upcoming wedding. It was a treat to see how much he had grown into himself and how they had taken their relationship further. While in book one I felt more connected to Wes, in this installment Connor endeared himself to me much more than before. But, although I understood where he was coming from and why he was trying to protect Wes, I still didn't accept that he kept things from him. Nor did I condone the way Wes acted when he found out that Connor had been keeping things from him. It was like they took one step forward and then two steps back.
The writing was very good with a lot of tender moments and emotions thrown into the mix - it had a bit of angst, a bit of drama and lots of romance. I loved that the author, Cat Grant, had them fight for their love and deal with unpleasant issues before they found their happily ever after. It is because of this that their story and the ending felt more real to me. I enjoyed their interactions and I especially enjoyed how they came together in the end and opened themselves to each other. It gave me hope that they would be alright, I even was misty-eyed. Of course, their chemistry was still hot, so I enjoyed that too. I also enjoyed the secondary characters and what they brought to the story. Even if I felt the need to smack some sense into Wes' aunt during that phone call, she did bring out a change in Wes that was needed in his relationship with Connor.
All in all, a great follow up book that highlighted the fact that without proper communication between these characters their relationship was only going through the motions and not getting anywhere. A great read, indeed!
Fearless by Cat Grant is the third book in her “Irresistible Attractions” series. It revisits Wes and Connor, the main characters from Priceless. Though you COULD read Fearless without having read Priceless, I wouldn’t recommend it. As Fearless is a novella, there is not a lot of room to rehash the main character’s back story, so it is more of a “picks up a year and a half later” type thing. The second book in the series furthers Wes and Connor’s relationship some, but is not as necessary as Priceless.
Having read the entire series I will say this. You will love this series or hate it. I don’t see a lot of middle ground for Fearless or the rest of the series. There are a lot of loose ends as the story comes to a close. There is no neatly wrapped package with a beautiful little bow at the end of Fearless. It is more of a “We know we have problems, but we will work on them and see where it can go”
I would like to thank Riptide and NetGalley for providing me with the eARC of this title in exchange for my honest opinion.
My Review: I read Priceless (and loved it) about a month ago, although I didn't put the review up until this morning so I was really excited when I heard that there was going to be a follow-up book for Wes and Connor.
There were things that happened in the first book which have left mental scars on both these guys. Wes was turning tricks and one of his john's almost killed him. Wes has been seeing a therapist, but Connor hasn't. Neither of these guys really thought through how that event affected him too. Now the guys are on the cusp of their marriage and everything has been thrown into chaos. Someone has reported them to the college (Connor was a prof, Wes a student). Although the college has known about their relationship for the last year, suddenly someone is threatening to go to the media and the college has had to take action. Connor's suspended while Wes's graduate work looks incredibly iffy. Lots of stress on top of the other stresses on them which have strained their relationship.
I liked this novella. Relationships, even Happily Ever After ones, take work. It's a constant give and take and I liked getting to watch these two work through this. They were amazing, likable characters in the first book and I love them even more now. I highly recommend this series!
I received a complimentary copy of this book in return for an honest review.
This one didn't have quite the emotional impact of the first story, Priceless. (And you do need to read Priceless first, though you can probably skip over Doubtless (#2) if you want to, since it focuses more on Steve.) I don't know if it was because it wasn't the same situation (which was very emotionally charged in the first book), or because it felt rushed to get to a resolution before the big event. It just didn't strike the right cord with me. It wasn't bad, but it wasn't outstanding either.
I was right about Flawless (#4) happening before the events of this story, so it didn't hurt me at all to have read Flawless first. I think I might actually prefer it in that order.
I still like the first book in the series the most.
I love roller coaster rides. The initial climb followed by that first plummeting descent never fails to take my breath away. An angsty book can replicate that feeling for me. It's like an emotional roller coaster where I'm soaring and sinking in turns. The emo in me likes that sometimes.
This book was a sad roller coaster ride. Instead of Six Flags' Green Lantern, I got E.K. Fernandez's Rat Race. It was more like a portable kiddie roller coaster that a traveling carnival might feature: jerky, abrupt, and rickety. It kinda made me sick. I wanted to slap Connor and Wes repeatedly. They couldn't stop bickering. First they're getting married. Then they're fighting and sleeping apart. Then they're sorry and Wes gets . Then they get hitched. Then they're fighting again, taking the rings off, and threatening to end their hours-old marriage. Then they're crying. Then they're making love.
I thoroughly enjoyed Fearless because the plot is tense and plausible, the characters continue to wrap themselves around my heart, and there are more stories to tell in this series. I look forward to each one, and, for that matter, to anything Cat Grant publishes. This is a good one. Enjoy.
Not all is sunny in paradise. Connor and Wes are about to get married but their communication skills are less than stellar. Adding to that is the fact that Connor needs to talk to someone about lingering issues regarding Wes' attack. Wes has been in therapy but Connor hasn't been. So, these two have a bit to work out before, and undoubtedly after, getting married. I like that there was real conflict here, even though it was resolved quickly and easily since things must be condensed in novellas. I really like Connor and Wes and I want them to get their HEA.
4-1/2 Stars This is marked as #3 of 4 but after reading it and reading the description of #4, I'd say it should have been reversed but it doesn't really make a difference. There's a character mentioned in here that is introduced in #4 but that's about it. A very good addition to the tale of Wes and Connor. We find out what happens next in their relationship as well as some family drama on Wes' side.
What it's about: (from Goodreads) How can you plan for the future when escaping the past seems impossible?
After over a year together, Connor Morrison and Wes Martin decide to tie the knot. But an ethics complaint regarding their deeply non-traditional relationship threatens Connor’s job and Wes’s Ph.D. The fact that Connor tried to keep it from Wes—even with the best of intentions—makes the situation even worse and casts a pall over their plans for a Christmas wedding in New York.

What worked for me (and what didn't): Particularly because of some of my questions from the previous novella, I was curious to see how these men were doing 1 year on. Again, my complaint is the same. The author did a wonderful job of (fairly quickly) setting up all the problems, but there wasn't much time on solving them. I was left wondering if they were really okay - particularly on the career front.
Connor is still dealing with trauma from when Wes was attacked by a client the year before - Wes has been seeing a therapist and is doing fine. He even wants to explore some rough sex but Connor, even while he is interested from a physical perspective, struggles with the emotional fallout of it - he doesn't want Wes to ever see him on the same plane as his attacker. While there was an agreement for Connor to seek some help too by the end, I thought it was all a bit too neat. I believed the set up so well, that the solution seemed underdone.
I laughed out loud when Wes's cousin Dale, in responding to Wes's confession of being a rentboy, says “Didn’t it ever occur to you to just get a fucking student loan?” It was funny, but he certainly had a point.
Ultimately, I think that 70 pages wasn't quite enough to tell the story in - I enjoyed the characters quite a bit and like the author's writing style. She made me care enough about Wes and Connor (and even Dale actually) that I wanted more depth and detail.
Grade: B-
Overall, I'm glad I read both books and I'd be happy to catch up with the characters again sometime but I would have liked to see them working out their problems rather than hearing about it.
I received Fearless by Cat Grant from Riptide Publishing for review through Netgalley in exchange for my honest review. I had not read anything by Cat Grant before but I do enjoy a good romance- M/M or otherwise.
But Wes has had enough. Between the specter of the ethics complaint and Connor’s overprotectiveness, he’s already beginning to question their plans. Add in a family ashamed of and angered by his choices, and Wes might just leave Connor standing at the altar. This book was a lovely read. It dealt with some serious issues in any relationship but especially in a marriage. Wes has come to terms with the horrific experience that he lived through before getting seriously involved with Connor. Connor is still haunted by what he witnessed. He wants to protect Wes whether he actually needs protecting or not. Even from Connor himself. Wes doesn't want to marry someone who sees him as a child who needs a protector. He wants to marry a man who sees him as an equal. That's what anyone would want. Before Wes and Connor can get married, they need to figure this mess out and navigate the pitfalls of dealing with Wes' family. I enjoyed this book enough that I was super curious about how Wes and Connor met so I bought both of the other two books in the series on Amazon. The three books are really more of a novella length but I enjoyed them all. These are definitely ADULT books, too! I hope you'll give them a read if they sound like your cup of tea.
I give Fearless 3 stars for a great book that was thought provoking and emotional, not just romantic.
A satisfying installment of the Irresistible Attraction series. We return to Connor and Wes, the stars of the first novella of the series on the occasion of their wedding. There is turbulence, much turbulence in their lives and while we were subject to many of Wes' thoughts and emotions about these upheavals, I felt a little short-changed by Connor's. I wanted more. I wanted to know more about the reasoning behind his final decision. I also found myself wanting to know more about his dilemma over his more aggressive desires and I wondered if there was going to come a point where he would reach a Wes boundary/limit and what they would do when it happened. Really, I think these are fascinating characters and want to know more about them.
We're also introduced to Gil, who arrives in NYC with Steve, Connor's best friend and business partner - and the MC of the previous IA novella. Who the hell is he? Why is he there? It bothered me that we knew nothing about him, nor did ever get to know anything as the story went on. (Apparently we'll be learning about him in IA #4, due out in April 2013)
I liked the character of Dale, Wes' cousin. Wanted more of him too. *LOL*
I guess, in the end, I would prefer if this series was written as actual novels, with all the fleshing out that comes with the territory. I think these characters are interesting enough to warrant the attention and the author is a good enough author to bring it off.
My only complaint about each book in this series is that the stories should be longer :( The story lines are kind of edgy and real, and the characters are just so engaging and very human with real flaws, doubts, questions and love, and after each story i find myself wishing for more. I have come across many m/m stories that I wish were shorter, but with this series I find myself wanting to know and explore so much more with each of the characters. I like the way this story follows up the relationship with Wes and Connor. Here they are about to get married but needing to navigate past trauma, spiteful relatives and pressures from work. All very real issues centred around a deep love for each other. A good series to get into.
After having read all the books in this series in my opinion this should be read as book #4.
I had one big question "Who the *beep* is Gil?" and "Where did he come from?" Okay that was two big questions. You will find out in book 4 which should be read as the 3rd book in this series.
I wished the story was longer. There were still unresolved issues between the couple when it ended. Overall, I liked this instalment on Connor and Wes progress in their relationship. Hope they have better communication next time.
Overall, I enjoyed this follow-up to Wes and Connor's story, but at the same time it left me with a bittersweet taste. I would love to meet this couple again in another book just to see how their lives unfolded.
It's time for Conner and Wes to tie the knot but things get crazy and complicated. Sometimes you just have to decide what your priorities really are. Luckily these two decide love is more important the college or career.
