While many of us are familiar with Aesop's fable of the tortoise and the hare, this collection introduced me to many other wise tales. I found them so impactful that I took the time to annotate them for future reference. As we face life's challenges, I'll keep these stories in mind and remember that “It’s better by far to bend than to break.” Live and let live.

We are planning on going over this with our son again for his homeschooling. I'm going to craft some lessons around it.
This read through was to reacquaint myself with Aesop again and get an idea on how to use this book more efficiently.
This book is a great teacher if you allow it.

On an off note...I see a bunch of people complaining about how this book is a bit dark for kids. Did we all become snowflakes or something? Even my boomer parents had us reading stuff like this. I know this isn't a millennial attitude. Why all of a sudden are we saying away from topics like lying, death, suicide, cheating, dumb thinking, etc... The comments here kind of disappointed me.

I hadn't read any of Aesop's Fables since childhood before picking this book up, and that's somewhat ironic because really, these fables aren't for kids: Aesop's Fables are geared towards adults.

These tiny little stories are remarkable: many of them are very, very dark, and this kid's edition that I read didn't dilute their essence at all. But there's balance in these stories: some are funny, some are happy, and some are somewhat off-kilter.

I loved these little stories and the lessons they offered, and I think every adult should consider reading them.

A well worn copy on my shelf, I adore fables. They’re fun to read and they have good morals to the story.

This edition in particular is definitely the best if you have an elementary school kid who likes pictures more than reading. Same goes for all of the Great Illustrated Classics (though most are more of an abridged version).

We saw these books, Great Illustrated Classics, at the library and were excited to read them with Victoria. However we figured she was too young to sit through and follow 200 pages, so I grab Aesop's Fables knowing it would have a lot of little stories in it. We read it in through days and read many of the multiple times. Victoria certainly has favorites and though I don't know that she learn the morals she knows several of the stories very well now.
