Half Castian and half Tonan, Doss is considered nothing more than a Tonian hybrid. A being to be feared with the power to kill by penetrating what is supposed to be impenetrable. Loathed by many feared by more, Doss has spent the last seven hundred years alone, shunned by the Tonans on his planet. He preferred it that way until a nude female rider on a huge black stallion fleeing for her life catches his eye. If left alone both beast and human would be killed by their pursuant, an enraged Tonan warrior. When the scent of the female invades his nostrils Doss is captivated. He must have the female human and will go to great lengths to secure her safety.
Zoe hates both Castians and Tonans. The promise of salvation from dying Earth, on planet Ulsy, had been nothing more than a lie. Human males were slaughtered and human women were captured to lure secrets of the Castian planets, Bagron and co-planet Dargon, from enslaved warriors with the promise of sex. When met with the six foot six hybrid warrior who moved like an apparition in battle to save her and her beloved stallion, Caveat, Zoe is unsure what to do. She has no idea of his intentions, but from the shiver that runs down her spine she is certain she’s about to find out.
Born and raised in Ontario, C. L. Scholey developed her passion for writing through her love of reading books as a child. Her first book was contracted in Oct 2009 the very same month her first grand son was born. C. L. Scholey still lives in Ontario, in a rural community with her husband and daughter.
From the author: Hello, I'm Connie! Now that we've met how about I tell you a little about me? I love to write, it's like having a super power.
I was born and raised in Ontario...yes I'm Canadian, no I don't live in an igloo, no I've never pet a polar bear, but I have run into a few black bears, seen wolves, moose, coyotes and I think there's a hundred pound squirrel in my attic.
I spend as much time as I can get away with looking for rocks in Bancroft. When I'm not in Bancroft I live in a small town, so people know me when they see me. Some ask me what I'm working on--some even ask me in a regular voice not a whisper.
I get bored easily, it's why one day I'll be working on assassins, the next Sci-fi, then Vikings, then vampires, then planning world domination--wait, what?
Moving on. I love animals and we have a dog, 120p mastiff. He's great with the kids and careful around them, but he'd run me over for a piece of bologna. Otherwise he loves us.
If you want to get to know me better join me on FB or twitter. Right now I need to change back into a mom, it's my best super power.
I loved H/h's story. Had it been just about them without Cobra in it, it would have been a 5 star story. But then the author just had to put Cobra into the picture and I was done!
Cobra: "It’s time to choose, Doss. Be hunted here by both Castian and Tonan or live side by side with the Castian warriors."
I loathe Cobra, he should just drop dead! His character just ruined a good book! :( I'm really starting to think what kind of a person the author is to write such an awful character and see nothing wrong with it!
Zoe is being held captive by the cruel Tonans. They hope to use her as bait to gain information from their Castian prisoners.
She manages to escape only to be caught again by Doss. He's a half-breed as his mother was Tonan and his unknown father was Castian. Forced to live in isolation, he's desperate to find a companion. His desire for Zoe is strong and pretty damn hot.
I love this series although the writing is a bit choppy.
This was one of my favorites in the series so far. There were some new elements introduced, like Doss being half Castian, half Tonan. All together it made him a pretty hard guy to defeat. He was tough, but at the same time he was gentle with Zoe.
I also loved how Zoe had her horses. Her horses that followed her and protected her. That was a really enjoyable part of the story.
The draft style of writing definitely improved with this book and so it wasn’t so obvious. The characters are always interesting. I have to say the character Cobra is practically a narrator at this point. Smh.
Still this series is imaginative and loaded with HEA’s for all! Exactly what I like. I’m off to read book 5.
I read this book in one night and thoroughly enjoyed it. I loved the whole Hybrid concept...Bravo. I hope we get to see more of them in future books.
Doss is fantastic to be so sweet & deadly. Zoe has spunk and a huge amount of fortitude. I love how she is selfless and caring for other animals/beings. For that matter, Doss has those same characteristics which probably makes them a perfect match. It was a bit sad to learn of doss' years of loneliness after his mothers passing. I suppose that is what makes you want to cheer for his relationship with Zoe.
I like this series and my only reason I don't give it five stars is because I always feel that when we get to the last chapter(s) in this series they just seem to end in a bit of a whimper or fade out. This is a good series and I recommend it, I do. Just would like the stories to end a little better and not feel so .....rushed.
Great Story! After my first read I was not disappointed the second time. Doss is still the sweetest of them all. Alone, half Tonan half Castian a Tonian she lived 700 years rejected by Tonans and feeling rejected by his Castian father. When he saw his choice mate he knew that he will no longer be alone. Zoe was alone for more than a year living with her horses. When caught by the Tonans a Castian warrior saved her and himself and since then she was on the run. I was glad to see Loy was Doss's brother and he had an extended family. The horse was a funny character in it's own and a great addition to the new world. Sweet story again and find myself wanting to read more and know more about the Castians and their mates.
I really enjoyed this installment of the series. They hybrid warrior and the heroine who has become family with a herd of horse is really a pleasure. The character work isn't complex but it is engaging and the world deepens here as we turn away from war a bit.
I hope there is more! I like the idea behind this series and the begining anew.
wow so far the one I prefer in the serie. Doss is an hybrid but oh gosh so hot. He lives alone and suffer from loneliness when he rescue a human woman.
really good story between the two, and all along the book, you can see that Doss is a kind heart guy.
And it just keeps getting better. This book is refreshingly different to the 1st 3. The outline is on the enemy planet and involves animals from earth which is a surprise and enjoyable. This one has its steam but not as steamy as book 3. It has more story than the previous books and not as puzzling in regards to castian culture. I just have to keep reiterating how clever the author's writing is. Her wit and dry wit in the dialogue between characters is just hilarious. I love words that the author has slotted into the retoric that is totally out of character with other words. It makes me laugh. Chapter 2 had me laughing out loud.. its light, fluffy and just enjoyable. Matthews voice just enhances the wit and is perfect. And in this book the heroine has an American accent. Just loving this series.
I like Doss, half Castian and Half Tonan he is 6.6, and glows white instead of black or gray and he has a diamond claw and super powers; plus no tail which means he isn’t a liar. After spending 700 years by himself he rescues Zoe and her horse companions who have been duped by the Tonians. They are raping and torturing earth females with the out of control Castians. Zoe hates them all. In an effort to find a descent planet human women and children are now at the mercy of aliens who lied to the earth males. After some time Doss must determine if he too can trust Tonians and Castians and live with a mate for the companionship he misses so much.
tak som nečítala prvé tri knihy no...s trochou snahy sa človek rýchlo vyzná a autorka zopakuje podstatné info, takže fajn oddychovka, miestami dosť naivná, ale ľahká scifi storka, hrdina sympaťák....ALE autorka asi miluje kone, žrebec ktorý patrí hrdinke vlastní niekoľko scén :D :D :D
Much better than the last book although the h had her TSTL moment towards the end. I enjoyed some of the changes that start occurring towards the end as well.
Overall: Zoe was one of the first people to brought to the new world Ulys because her parents were rich, but after only being there for only a little bit of time men start being killed and young women are taken. Zoe watches as her parents are killed and she is taken to a ship where she is tormented, but she is able to escape with the help of one of the casitian warriors. Doss has been living by himself for over 700 years and when he scents Zoe, he claims her for himself so he won't be lonely anymore, but there is one problem, she is protected by a group of horses and the male horse seems to have a claim on her. He finally captures her and after some ups and downs and a horse biting his ass, Zoe and Doss become connected and Doss learns the real truth about himself.
Pros: I loved Zoe's connection with her horses. That was just something speical that really made the book have a different flow than the last three. I also liked that Doss was a hybrid and bought a new aspect to the fight.
Cons: I didn't quite understand Doss's haterd for both the Castians and Tanlons. It would seem about 800 years of living that he would have a better idea of what each one was about. It's mentioned throughout the book that he spied on them and other heard conversations, I would think by than he would've picked up more about both cultures. Other than that I really enjoyed the story.
I LOVED this book!! I cannot say enough good stuff it and about Doss- he was the sweetest hero! He never had any acceptance except from his mother(and wan't she wonderful to teach him the value of truth and courage!). When Doss first saw Zoe he was very intrigued by her and her beloved horse. He admired both her beauty and her strength. I absolutely loved that Doss found acceptance and family ith the Castians. And I liked how important Zoe's horse was to the story, and how sweet was it that he was there when Zoe gave birth! I agree with other posts this was the best in a great series. It did seem as if the author was wrapping the series up but I can still hope that there will be more to come.
I have really enjoyed this series. There are times that the details of the breeding habits etc get hard to swallow though. Doss is wonderful and very sweet and I like Zoe. There are parts of this story that are very convenient and the pace begins to feel a bit rushed. I found parts of the end extremely sappy and once again the details become very convenient and hard to believe. This story felt as if it was the last in the series...I don't know if that's true but it felt like things were being wrapped up. If you have not read the other books in the series then I would recommend reading them in order to get full enjoyment.
Typically I don't leave ratings or reviews, but I enjoyed this book so much that I've read it over and over. Personally, my favorite character is the horse. Many say either the hero or heroine, but to me, the horse was the comedy relief that set this book apart from the others in the series, and not to mention his relationship with first, the heroine who raised him and then the lonely hero that had to used to not only having a mate, but also, a full of attitude, butt-biting horse that made this book memorable.
Not much to say about this one. A good sci-fi romance in a cheesy way. In a time of perpetual war, on another planet. Sexy yet scary alien guy falls for pretty human girl on the run. He becomes her knight in shining armor (literally) and rescues the damsel in distress making her his for eternity. I always enjoy these books. I love science fiction and I love romance. These are more about romance than science, but are entertaining.
I am falling deeper and deeper in love with this series! This is my favorite so far, the heroine and hero are both outcasts that stumble across each other and learn to love, aww the sweetness! I hope to review these in a bit more detail next time I read through them as I'm sure I will revisit them for sure! I'm in too much of a hurry to move on to the next one right now, haha!!
I love this series. This series just is so addicting that each book is a definite must read for me. I love the detail of the worlds. Oh and let's just say I am definitely waiting on a Castian of my own. This story is one of my favorites and I am anxiously awaiting the next in the series!! So this series I would gladly recommend.
