Temnota se šíří městem. Damon, který býval vždy lovcem, se sám stává kořistí - obětí zlomyslného stvoření, které dokáže ovládnout jeho vůli a které netouží pouze po Elenině krvi, ale přímo po její smrti. Starý les zabydlují podivní krvelační hmyzí tvorové a stromy ožívají vlastními zlovolnými úmysly.
Smith was born in Villa Park, Orange County, California. In interviews, she has said she realized she wanted to be a writer sometime between kindergarten and first grade, “when a teacher praised a horrible poem I’d written”, and began writing in earnest in elementary school. Smith received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Experimental Psychology from the University of California at Santa Barbara in 1987, followed by teaching credentials in Elementary education and Special education from San Francisco State University.
She taught kindergarten and special education for several years before becoming a full-time writer. Her first book, The Night of the Solstice, was published by MacMillan in 1987, followed by, Heart of Valor in 1990, and the 4-volume Vampire Diaries series in 1991-2. Three trilogies followed: The Secret Circle (1992), The Forbidden Game (1994), and Dark Visions (1995). The first installment of her popular Night World series was published in 1996, followed by eight more over the next two years. In 1998, Smith began a decade-long hiatus from writing, returning in 2008 with a new Web site and a series of new short stories. The Vampire Diaries series was reissued in 2007, followed by re-printings of The Secret Circle trilogy and Night World series in 2008/2009. The Night of the Solstice and Heart of Valor was also reissued in 2008. Three new Vampire Diaries installments were published in 2009 and 2010.
Smith lived in the San Francisco Bay area “with one dog, three cats, and about ten thousand books.”
She passed away on March 8th, 2025, after a lengthy illness.
I loved Damon, but in some ways it was too much...again. But the rest was just wrong. Whole book about stupid fight with malachs? Common, it should be shorter. And the stupid lovely calling from Stefan to Elena..it sucks.
I really didn't enjoy this one. Honestly bugs? If it were more about the kitsunes I would be thrilled but molochs? No thank you. I know that this series is a bit weird for me some books are great and others are cringe or just not so good. So we'll see about the next one.

3⭐️/5 I think I enjoyed this one the most because it was more interesting there was a plot but in the first books it was just reading with no plot and sometimes it was boring
Nightfall was a very confusing book for me. I found it extremely hard to visualize the malachs they were described in such a complex way, and I often had no clue whether the characters were in the real world or in Shinichi’s world. Honestly, the first half of the book felt incredibly boring and dragged on. The most fascinating part for me was Shinichi his cruelty was so interesting and shocking. I enjoyed watching how he manipulated everyone and how sadistic he was..he’s the kind of character that just gets under your skin. On the other hand, I absolutely detested Misao. What she did with the young girls was infuriating. The obsession, jealousy, and manipulation especially since some of the girls were only 11–13 years old felt completely bizarre and uncomfortable. I get that it was meant to be shocking, but if the girls had been 17–18, it might have been bearable. Here, they were little girls, half-naked, making inappropriate advances to strangers and hurting themselves. And the relationship between Shinichi and Misao? That definitely didn’t feel like siblings... I have to say, perhaps for the first time ever, I actually enjoyed the relationship between Elena and Damon. I was surprised by how sensitive and tender Damon was, how he worried about Elena and cared for her. I finally understood his feelings for her, at least a little bit. But then Elena got to Stefan, and even though they only had one brief moment together, the sparks were flying and you could just feel that unconditional love. The end of the book was confusing again the final battle, the "celebration" and Elena's wings... it was all a bit much. However, I was cheering when Elena cut off Misao’s tail! Caroline was so bland in this book, even though she’s technically the one who started it all. And her pregnancy with Tyler? Ugh... I also found it hilarious how Damon simply couldn't remember Matt’s name for the life of him. Matt is such a good guy and a loyal friend. I’m curious about the next book, but I finished this one mostly just for the sake of finishing it. It feels like Matt and Bonnie get more page time in the books than Stefan and Damon do.
