When business mogul Jordan Hill inherits half of Bendura Island Resort, a posh vacation destination in the Fiji Islands, the will demands he release his half uncle's ashes somewhere on the island and that he indulge in a real vacation before he sells. As Jordan is reeling with grief and under good circumstances doesn't do vacations, especially if they include horses and looming volcanoes, he finds himself on uneven footing. The footing turns treacherous as Jordan realizes, for the first time in his life, he's attracted to a man--his new business partner.

For resort entrepreneur Ryan McCale, Bendura Island is a dream come true as well as his livelihood. He was warned Jordan would try to sell sight unseen, and after meeting him, there's no doubt the business shark has dollar signs in his eyes. But there's also vulnerability and desire in that chocolate gaze. Suddenly, Ryan's looking forward to showing Jordan the delights of the island and hoping to convince his new partner Bendura could be his dream, too.

This book is an erotic romance. It contains explicit language, hot m/m lovin', light kink, two gorgeous guys, horses, and an impending insurance nightmare of a volcano. Enjoy!

JUST ASK… Is getting what you want really that easy?

Jordan Hill is a workaholic by anyone’s standards. When he inherits the keys to the kingdom of Bendura Island Resort, the golden ticket to the life of luxury and relaxation in the picturesque Fiji Islands, he scoffs at the notion and quickly begins to mentally disassemble the resort, immediately tossing out the idea of owning the island long-term.

Upon arrival, relaxation is the last thing on Jordan’s mind, but fulfilling his uncle’s death-bed request is at the top of his list. In addition to scattering his ashes, Jordan’s uncle has requested, in nicer terms, that he get a life and enjoy the accomplishments and possessions he has worked so hard to achieve.

Enter cowboy and co-owner of the island resort, Ryan McCale. This sexy former attorney turned beach bum is determined to show Jordan the way of the island life and the power of politely asking for what you really want.

It is obvious from the powerful imagery in JUST ASK that Mia Downing is very familiar with life filled with horses – I felt like I was riding along with them ☺ JUST ASK is, in my opinion, the best book written by Mia Downing to date. If you love a sweet, gay-for-you story that is heavy on plot and "light on kink" (by her own description), then this is definitely a romance you will want to read.

FEEL GOOD AND SEXY!

I enjoyed this one! It was sexy and light. A feel good read!

I'm not sure why I didn't give this 5 stars. There's something missing from it for me. It might be rawness. But I'm really not sure. And there some parts that doesn't connect to me and I tend to skim some parts.

One thing that I really loved though about this read is the Naturism in it. (It just means being naked in nature.) It's one of my greatest sexual fantasies and I love love love it!!! Their streak and skinny dipping in the beach, their deed in the hammock, on the waterfall... Whew!!! *fans himself
If I had that kind of property I might be naked all the time there too... XD

Really liked the characters, either of them didn't annoy me and they had really nice chemistry. I was a little taken aback by Jordan's easy acceptance to his bisexuality but other than that, I'm all good.

Ryan & Jordan

This is a RECOMMENDED light-hearted read for me. Now...if I can just book a vacation to Fiji... XD

I was lucky enough to get an advance copy of this book from Mia Downing in return for an honest review. It's M/M....I jumped at that chance!

I'm not one for recapping the story...that's why there's a blurb & others tend to do that for me, so I'll stick to telling you my thoughts on the book. I was pleasantly surprised with this book, it hit on my love for GFY & dirty talk and the sexin was HOTT!!

I felt a connection with all the characters right away and even tho we actually don't get to meet Blake, he's there in a huge way. I think Mia was able to give us lots of details and information about Jordan, Ryan, Blake and even the Island without it feeling like she was giving it to us...does that make sense. Some books like that I tend to skim thru all those extra details but here they all just sort of flowed and didn't seem forced to be told. I was very happy with Jordan & Ryans relationship. Ryan helped 'teach' him things and Jordan didn't fight it...well maybe he did a little bit :P

All in All...great story & I look forward to seeing what other books Mia has out there!

Loved it!

Nice take on a favourites of mine-GFY. Light and fluffy, just a tiny bit of angst.

It delivered a story of self discover and love, deciding what is really important in life, and finding HOME... in more ways then one.

I felt a connection with all the characters right away and even tho we actually don't get to meet Blake, he's there in a huge way.

Jordan and Ryan were amazing together and loving was incredibly steamy and plentiful.

I was very happy with Jordan & Ryan's relationship. Ryan helped him see thing in perspective and Jordan didn't fight it... much.

I also loved waterfall and the meaning of it...

skinny-dipping and all the fun the guys had...

and oranges...

"When life surprises you with oranges, Jordan, you make orange juice and marmalade."

"But if I knew about the oranges, I would run."

For me it was a perfect book. Highly recommended light and enjoyable MM read.

Disclaimer, I'm in a group with the author and I was gifted with a copy, just needed to write an honest review so here goes:

Straight, high-powered businessman Jordan inherits a half-interest in hotel on an island idyll from his step-uncle, Blake, who was only two years older. One of the conditions of the will is that he actually has to go to Bendura and deal with the other half-owner face-to-face.

Jordan doesn't want this hotel and is determined to sell it as soon as possible until he meets Ryan, the other owner. Sparks fly and Jordan realizes he's not as straight as he thought because he feels an erotic connection with Ryan.

Ryan makes it his mission to try and encourage Jordan to fall in love with Bendura during the weekend he's been given. Jordan gets much more than he bargains for in this lovely story.

I really liked this and the sexin' was hot, not overly angsty, Jordan realized and accepted he was gay and the story was realistic. Blake was trying his best from the grave to get Jordan to 'stop and smell the coffee'.

I've read this book in a blink of an eye! It's a great story, with amazing characters and wonderful landscapes! Imagining the island and that fantastic love that was born there, was mind-blowing! Dream beaches, two gorgeous men and hot sex... what a turn on set!

Ryan and Jordan made a beautiful couple, blessed by Blake...

Another book that will be a pleasure reread!

A lighthearted m-m read about finding the someone you are missing to help you be human, whether that someone is a male or a female. I loved Jordan and Ryan together and I loved the message of this story. Sometimes the things we want most in life are the things we can't buy, even if we have all the money in the world.... peace, love and a place to call home.

For my first ever M/M book, this was perfect! I was a little apprehensive going in, not really knowing what to expect or if I was pushing my boundaries too far. I'm really glad I took the chance because this book is so good. I really liked this authors writing style and I felt the characters were so well developed, very relatable. I found myself a little choked up whenever Blake (the deceased half uncle) was brought up. And the relationship between Jordan And Ryan was wonderful. Even though things happened rather quickly, it worked! The sexxy times were what I was mostly worried about. I'm no stranger to erotic love scenes, but this was my first without a female present. While I don't see myself going out to devour every m/m book I can find, I won't shy away from a book just because of this anymore. In other words, the sex scenes didn't scare me off! :) I also liked that while there was some blazing hot sex, there was a serious story line, with depth, goin on! Very well done!

I really wanted to love this book. The author was very generous to give this book away for free and it had a cute cover. I had pretty high hopes. Alas, this book just didn't do it for me. It was okay, it just didn't wow me.

I didn't ever FEEL the chemistry between the two men. It came across as forced, in my opinion. I normally don't mind insta-love if it is done really really well but, in this case, it didn't work for me. I also wasn't into the light dom/sub relationship that they had. It seemed a bit awkward and like an add on to go with the recent trend towards BDSM romances.

I'm sure many people will enjoy this book because the sex was HOT and the characters were likeable but I've read so many amazing M/M books that this falls in the average category for me. I want to read more by this author because I can tell she has talent.

An excellent contemporary read. Not overly emotional with Jordan's uncle/brother's death, but just the right amount for a great feel-good read. The chemistry between Ryan and Jordan was explosive and I loved their slight D/s aspect to their relaitonship. Definately going on my comfort reads list.

I would LOVE to see this book turned into a series and get Samantha's book!!! Please :)

Raving reviews aside, this M/M romance is not bad, on the contrary it is fairly pleasing: well thought of, well written, with a consistent plot and likeable characters.
Its only -unfortunately huge- problem is its being M/M: as such it is completely, utterly, incredibly wrong.

An M/M romance does not work like that. Well, it might apparently work like that for lady-readers (I suppose those who do not really know how gay men think) and it is not by chance that all five-star reviews come from women. As a gay man I have found it entirely off.

The two lovers are not fems, but they reason, they act, they take decisions like a woman would. Their sexuality is feminine because of how they stress some aspects of their relationship and not others. It is a very well known fact that what makes women tick -especially sexually- is entirely different from what makes men.
Take the first stereotype: Jordan is a business shark and he needs to let his hair down. It is a stereotype, but it is a well-loved one because it is conducive of good character interaction.
He meets Ryan who was a shark but gave up on that life -second stereotype, a little less good for the plot, but still acceptable.
Of course Jordan innerly craves not just to relinquish control -third stereotype, very obvious- which would be more than understandable. To relinquish control he needs to be dominated... ehm... -fourth stereotype, very unnecessary bordering with the cheap-.

First of all I have an issue with this dom/sub thing that so many lady authors seem to love (BDSM gay male authors write entirely different things: not necessarily better, different), but this is a personal taste and can be bent if the author is good enough to handle it deftly.
But what is the kernel of this dominance/submission thing? It is Jordan's learning to ask for things nicely instead of demanding them as he is used to do. This is a very feminine thing. It is the role play of the naughty boy vs the strict school mistress. Most women relish the spoken word, even sexually. For men it is a situation which is intriguing, not the words used to describe it.

You think I am wrong? There is a humongous scientific literature stating the widely accepted and acknowledged differences between male and female sexualities. If you do not have much time, just give a short look to Ian Kerner's A Billion Wicked Thoughts or to any sex-health handbook you happen to have on your shelf.

This is the reason for the one-star. As a straight -or perhaps even as a lesbian- romance it could have worked quite well and very little changes would be needed.

5 STARS!

Wow...can I say this book was perfect? I loved everything about it! Anyone who knows me, will tell you that I love to read everything M/M, so I must admit, that was my first motivation for reading. I just didn't expect to love it this much.

The story was wonderfully descriptive without be too wordy (if that makes sense). From the very first page I felt like I was in the story. I could see, hear and feel everything that Jordan did. I related to how he handled his grief regarding the death of his uncle Blake. He truly loved him.

I was really happy with the relationship between Jordan and Ryan. It wasn't angsty at all. I really dislike stories where one of the MC's are straight and completely MINDF**K's himself for pages and pages of "but i'm not gay" tirades. I don't think Jordan ever questioned whether he was gay or not. It wasn't an issue. He just loved who he loved.

Oh and the sex was HOTTTT! And...there was LOTS of it!

Mia Downing is a fantastic writer. I'm surprised that this is the first book of hers that I've read. Needless to say, I will be placing more of her books on my "to read" shelf.

I have to admit, this was my first m/m book. I'm so glad I waited for this story. I'm a huge fan of Mia Downing. She writes characters like very few authors I've ever read. Jordan, Ryan and even Blake (who we never actually meet) were so REAL. Heck, Sam had one scene, and I'm chomping the bit to read her story. I just adored Jordan. He was an amazing contradiction - totally in control, but wanting to let go - confident, but unsure. I was amazed at his ability to be honest, both with himself and Ryan. He was in a situation that was totally out of his comfort zone, but instead of trying to play it off, he admitted he was on "uneven footing" and let Ryan guide him. Oh my, and what a guide Ryan was! Damn that boy was hot with a capital H.

I expected a hot story, and Just Ask certainly delivered in that respect. It also delivered as a story of self discover and love, deciding what is really important in life , and becoming "human" for your "needle is haystack" .

4 stars. A lot of the time, I don't read the blurb, or not much of it, maybe skim it. I think I was expecting something a little floofy, but it wasn't. The characters were good and well developed, especially considering that it isn't a very long book.
Ryan

Ryan was once a lawyer, living the life of money, contracts, and stress...but after heart break he finds peace on the island and leaves that life behind in favor of riding horses, lying naked in his hammock. Yum.
Jordan

Jordan is still living the life of making money, contracts, and stress. He is an intimidating force in the board room and is rarely on "uneven footing". The death of his uncle/friend/brother brings him to the island.
I really loved how Blake was so much a character in this story. Through the use of Blake-isms, the memories, and conversations, it genuinely seemed he was sitting among them at times.
The issues they were dealing with weren't overly contrived or super angsty, which I appreciated. The book didn't contain that token mis-communication or super big problem that threatens to ruin everything. It came down to a decision, about being honest with yourself and taking a chance.
Some super hot steam and Oh...did I ever love the mouth on Ryan! And what girl hasn't had the waterfall fantasy? I mean, come on!
Really enjoyed this and would definitely recommend it and

I love a nice surprise and every now and then Amazon provide me with one in their free books. Normally priced at £2.59 and a really decent length, ' Just Ask ' turned out to be a fab romantic love story with some pretty sensual love scenes that certainly didn't disappoint. A GFY story, emotional but no major angst or dark soul searching, just two gorgeous guys, brought together by the death of a close friend and relative who leaves his share of the resort to his driven, straight businessman step nephew and friend - they were very close in age -, and his gay, laid back free spirited business partner in the island venture. It's obvious he knew his beautiful tropical island resort would work its magic on both his friends who I think he knew better than they knew themselves and .... well, you can guess the rest! Over the course of the story both of these alpha males learn to give in and become who they want to be deep down, not who they have had to be. There is a slight domination feel in the sex scenes but it fits in with the mindset of the MC's and it never overpowers the scenes so it still retains an overall romantic feel. Balmy oceans, sandy beaches, skinny dipping( smiles! ), waterfalls ( sigh! )hammocks ( big grin! ) - very nice. 3.75 rounded up.

I loved the premise of this book but everything was so shallow. Like there was no depth in the story at all. I didn't feel a single thing for the main characters. No connection whatsoever. I do however, go to a tropic island for vacation. So that's something.

My Review:
Blake was Jordan's uncle, but being only two years older than him, they are actually more like brothers. As a result, when Blake dies from cancer, it sends Jordan reeling. Blake was the wild one, the fun one, the one who always embraced life. Jordan's the opposite, but he loved Blake and wants to honor Blake's wishes and that's how he finds himself on an island that Blake loved. Jordan doesn't want to have anything to do with it, except sell it. In fact, the whole idea of the island makes him extremely uncomfortable.

Ryan was Blake's partner in owning and running the island. He knows that Jordan plans to sell the island and knows if that happens, then Ryan will be losing his dream. He can't afford to buy Jordan out. Jordan is there to basically crush Ryan's dreams. His only hope is to show Jordan what Blake loved about it. A former lawyer who escaped to the islands five years ago, Ryan can relate to where Jordan is...he sees in Jordan a guy who simply needs to relax and that's what Blake wanted for him too.

This is a hot little book. Jordan is straight, although he readily admits that he's never fallen in love or been even close to in love with a woman. He's an uptight guy who controls every aspect of his life and business...it's why he's so successful. He's in a friends-with-benefits type of relationship with Samantha. That works for both of them as neither one wants emotional ties and Sam likes to be in charge...which works for Jordan. It's the one place he can hand over the reins of his control and simply relax to be himself. So he's completely shocked to find himself fantasizing about Ryan. Ryan is gay. Then he finds out that Ryan also has a few dominant tendencies...and Jordan gives in. He decides he's going to take this weekend to simply relax and go wherever his mood takes him...if that's into Ryan's arms, then he's okay with that.

The relationship between these guys is interesting. Ryan is definitely the one in charge when it comes to their relationship, but it's Jordan calling the shots. I know that makes no sense, but that's the way it works for them. I liked it...it made for a different dynamic and is enough that it keeps both men a bit off-balance and a bit vulnerable. Neither expected this relationship, but they both loved Blake and as they get to know each other, they realize that Blake knew what he was doing by bringing them together. It's REALLY romantic. I liked that.

I have to admit that I was surprised when I saw this cover because Mia's writing tends to be pretty angsty...lots of emotion to her writing. And this cover is just so bright and happy, but I'm happy to say that it totally works for this book. Don't get me wrong, there's still some strong emotion to this book (Jordan's grieving....Blake has only been dead for 3 weeks and there absolutely is a scene here where I was crying over that loss), but the book takes place on a tropical island....I want to go there. The scenes that Mia sets up in the book are amazing and so lush and so romantic. I LOVED that aspect of the book...waterfalls, hammocks, ocean...it's all gorgeous and lush. The cover definitely suits this entertaining book.

Mia Downing, you owe me another box of Kleenex! I loved this book and I cried so hard. My heart went out to both Jordan and Ryan. They were dealing with so much heartache and found solace in each other. It was wonderful.

Jordan’s half uncle has died and he’s on his way to Bendura to spread his ashes and deal with the island resort he’s been left in the will. Ryan is part owner of the resort and want’s to stop Jordan from selling his half of the resort.

Along the way Jordan finds he’s attracted to Ryan. Jordan decides to go for a boys gone wild weekend and indulge his attraction. But what happens at the end of the weekend? Will Jordan sell? Will he follow his heart and go back to Ryan?

I’ve read a few M/M books but they are not my typical genre. I like girly bits mixed into my stories. That being said, there was something so hot and touching about Jordan and Ryan’s story that I couldn’t put it down! I read until the wee hours of the morning. I had to know how it turned out! Waiting until the next day to find out was NOT ACCEPTABLE!

I also found myself crying as they dealt with their grief. Hearing about Blake and they way he lived his life made it that much harder to hear he wasn’t with us anymore. (yes, I know he’s fictional, but if felt real!)

This is an amazingly emotional story that is hot! I want to visit Bendura to skinny dip in the ocean, lay in the hammock and see what naughty things I can find to do!

I received a copy of this book from the author in exchange for an honest review.

5 stars M/M, Romance, light kinky

Summary
Jordan has inherited an island from his uncle and as a last-wish-type-of-thing he visits to throw his ashes in a perfect place.
To find this perfect spot, he decides to spend a weekend in paradise, trying to reconnect with himself and his uncle.
There he meets his new partner, cowboy Ryan, that was also his uncle best friend.
Even though he has always been straight, his attraction to Ryan is explosive.
The book explores Jordan journey through self-discovery and teach him that if he wants something he only need to "Just Ask".

cover 4 stars
After reading the book, I totally understood it. But only looking at it first, I couldn't see it was m/m; but I would still buy this book by the cover in a bookstore. Hot guy and beautiful sea, that's a great combination!

characters 5 stars
I really loved both male characters. Both of them had weakness and were not afraid of working it.

plot 5 stars
I believe this is the strength of this book. It has an amazingly develop plot. It shows the journey of the characters to it's completion without leaving anything out.
It was really well written. The intensity of the story grew proportionally and I was always on my toes, wanted to now what's next.

sex heat 4 stars
It has great scenes. This was my first all m/m book and I was happily surprise. :) The love scenes are heavy on love, which made them sweet at the same time they were steamy.

editing 5 stars
It was really good. I don't remember a major problem I had with the typing.

impressions and opinion
This book was Mia Downing at her best!
We can feel the authors romantic heart, at the same time she uses just a bit of kinky so it doesn't get sappy.
Really a masterpiece!

I would recommend to anyone that loves a good written romance. Even for those like me, that hasn't venture into M/M before, I would say: Live a little, give it a try!

A big thank you to Mia Downing for giving me an opportunity to read her new book.

I am just going to give my feelings and thoughts about a really sweet love story that I so enjoyed reading.

MY THOUGHTS

1st Page - I was hooked!!! I had a smile on my face as I joined this fabulous island tour, meeting the two gorgeous mc’s. The way Jordan, city boy billionaire and Ryan McCale, the cowboy hippie living on an exotic island!!!!!!! Loved it.

I liked the flow of the story and the plot and the relationship and romance between the two protagonists slowly leading to that pivotal moment in, where Jordan realizes what truly matters in his life.

The story had a fresh take on most of the GFY books I have read before – the straight guy who suddenly discovers he’s gay, goes through all the angst possible, denial…blah blah….yes Jordan did have some issues dealing with his sexuality but he wasn’t exactly fighting any inner demons or painful past history….

I LOVED

Jordan & Ryan – I just so “bonded” with them from the moment I met them. A workaholic, hard ass, sexy man who thinks he has and knows it all and a laidback gorgeous , romantic “cowboy” who shows Jordan that there is more to life than just money and possessions – could I ever resist ???? Such engaging and lovable characters.

The fabulous and lovely settings so vividly written were a real treat. I just wanted to fly off to Fiji and join guys island hopping – the festivals, restaurants….felt very real to me.

The chemistry and sexy build up between Jordan & Ryan was fabulous…the sex scenes between the two sparkled…in amazing and luscious locations…Wow!!!!

If you want to read a story that’s filled with romance, loveable characters, and gorgeous locations, great dialogue that leaves you feeling happy and good and uplifted – then read this book. You will love it as much as I did.

This is the first but certainly not the last book I have read by this author and I am looking forward to more of her writing.

Well, right up until 70% I would have given this 5 stars. Yes, I know some people had a problem with the insta-love, but considering Blake had told Ryan all about Jordan, it didn't seem all that far fetched to me, plus the guys were so HOT and the D/s element was well done. I loved how forthright Jordan was about what he wanted and how much Ryan wanted to give it to him but made him ask (the asking got a bit out of control for a min there but for the most part I enjoyed it). I loved the witty writing and the book made me smile throughout. Good times.

Then at 70% it veered into the corny. The 'making love' line made me groan out loud. Nooo, why? I have NEVER seen the line, "I don't want to have sex; I want to make love" done well. It is corny. There are other ways to say the same thing. Then things got flowery and I really wanted to cry. "I'm opening the barn door for you to run." Really?? Why is this happening? The whole visit with Samantha...I guess it was necessary but I really couldn't care less. However, I stuck with it.

Around 87 % or so we were back in business. It still got a lot corny and I think the explanation of WHY Jordan did what he did could have been better earlier on. I mean I did get it at the end, but in the beginning it just sounded far fetched. All in all though, it was a fun read. It just got derailed from 5 stars to 3.75.

This book is much more than two people meet, fall in love and claim their HEA. It’s about letting go of the past in order to claim the future. It’s about two people accepting that they are worthy to love and be loved. This is a scorching passionate original story that pulls you in from the first page and stays with you long after the last page is turned. What I admire about Ms. Downing’s books is her ability to not only write, but let you feel intense emotion right along with her characters. You feel their heartbreak, their happiness, their all consuming desire and love. She is able to straddle that fine line of detail. Not so much that you feel like skipping ahead, but enough to paint a vivid image in your mind. It’s the perfect balance. I highly recommend grabbing this book. I promise you won’t be disappointed.

Great read! Brought together by someone they both held dear in their lives, Ryan and Jordan meet on a tropical island, which they now own together. Two business partners; one determined to get his affairs in order, and head back to what he thinks is his ideal life, the other wanting to show that there can be more to life than just business. As they explore the island together, Ryan helps Jordan learn that he needs to 'just ask' his heart where it wants to be, and the answers will fall into place...
