The Reluctant Bachelorette
Unknowingly cast as the bachelorette for her town’s charity event, Taycee Emerson wants out. Especially when she discovers her old teenage crush, Luke Carney, is one of the bachelors and it's up to the viewers--not her--to decide which bachelors stay or go. Coerced into participating, Taycee does what any self-preserving girl would do. She launches a subtle attack on Luke’s good name with the hope of getting him voted off the show. Unfortunately, Luke's an eye-for-an-eye kind of guy, and when he discovers what she's up to, it means revenge.

I decided to read this one again since I was in the mood for a fun chick lit type book and Rachael's books never disappoint. This is still one of my favorites, the whole reality-dating trope is just a fun one for me, add in a bit of the "lost love" angle and this is a winner.
Taycee and Luke grew up together, then he up and moved and never looked back. Even though she was young, she never got over Luke and is stunned when he moved back to town. Taycee doesn't do well with change and has stayed in Shelter Springs, even though all her family has moved away. When her best friend tricks her into starring in their own smalltown version of the Bachelor, Taycee agree since she will do anything to help her town. Taycee is a very likable character, easy to relate to and fun to root for. I thought their take on The Bachelorette was believable and unique.
When Luke comes back to town he only has plans to open his own veterinary clinic, not star in a dating show. He does not expect Taycee to have changed so much or for her animosity. Luke and Taycee had some great moments together, lots of chemistry and fun banter. This is filled with fun characters, a charming setting and a swoony romance!
I have always hoped that Taycee's best friend Jessa would get her own book. So, I've been thinking of starting a petition to beg Rachael to write Jessa's story...who's with me????

This was an okay read. The setup was tough to swallow, and a couple of times I nearly stopped reading altogether, but I ended up enjoying it enough that I'm not disappointed that I picked it up.
Taycee Lynne has supposedly had a crush on a boy who left town ten years ago--when she was fourteen. And that's all it was, really, a crush. The friend of her older brother, they hung out and did stuff, but all with the brother along and never as an actual couple (or romantic in any way). And then he left for college and never looked back. The readers are meant to believe that her ten-years-past love for Luke has prevented her from settling for any of the guys she has dated since and I'm sorry, that just doesn't work.
Fortunately, aside from that one conceit Taycee is a pretty good leading lady and it was fun to get to know her. She's small-town to the core and that's a good thing. Whether through love for her community or fear of change (though probably a bit of both), she is attached to her small Colorado town and you can see how that attachment might lead her to some of her choices (both admirable and questionable).
Luke isn't bad, either. I didn't like him as much as Taycee, but he's obviously a good guy and a very good fit for Taycee. His path in the book is relatively straight forward, though, so I wonder if it was a good idea to spend so much time from his viewpoint. Since switching viewpoints is a convention of the romance genre, I won't hold that against the book.
I had some trouble around the two thirds or three quarters mark, though, as the "Bachelorette" show continued. By then, Taycee had a definite moral quandary and it looked like she was being set up to take very morally questionable action (with the show, not the romance) without the full weight of that choice showing up. It turns out that some of my misgivings were justified (Anderson took the easy way out at least once with this storyline), but the author didn't allow them to get out of jail free with the questionable aspects and those moral issues had the impact they should have. Better, they did so without overwhelming the rest of the story or feeling moralistically pat.
So the story was good, but not great. The rocky foundation (attached at fourteen just doesn't work for me) and moral anxiety (however well it was eventually handled) disturbed my enjoyment enough to drop this to a solid three stars. I'm certainly open to more from the author.
A note about LDS: Based on the channels I found out about the book from (and some of the author's other work) I'm pretty sure she's LDS. There's nothing overtly LDS about the book, however--no church, no slang, no indication that anybody has any religion at all. Nevertheless, this is rather obviously a "clean" romance. No sex and all the dating was very wholesome. And yes, I mean that in the best possible way. I point this out because most of my romances have at least some degree of steam and I wanted to call this out to avoid misleading others and/or potential disappointment based on contrary expectations.

Honest to goodness, Rachael Anderson is one of my favorite clean romantic writers and this book is my favorite. It just made me feel, well, happy. Happy, happy, happy. Like sunshine and lollipops. Well, maybe not lollipops, more like sunshine and chocolate.
It's no secret that this book falls into my favorite genre. What I love about this book is that it is witty and fun. It's easy to read and just feels real. You know? I love the dynamics between Taycee and Luke. Chemistry. Yum.
Okay, so I want to share with you two of my favorite parts of the book. The first has to be mentioned because I am in love with Captain America. (Avengers is out! I have a hot date with my man and the couch to watch it tomorrow!) Anyway, love. Captain America. This is Taycee's first view of Luke after 10 years.
"Slowly, Taycee twisted around and then clenched her jaw to keep it from dropping. It was like watching the Captain America movie where the scrawny guy goes into the machine and come out looking . . . well, everything but scrawny."
And my second favorite bit . . .
"You look good tonight," said Luke.
"Thanks." Okay, so maybe that redeemed him a tad. A millimeter at most.
"I still can't get over the fact that you're all grown up now. It's so . . . weird."
And like Humpty Dumpty, down he went.
I picked this book up the day it was released and I've read it TWICE now. I know, sorta pathetic, right? But I loved it. Both times. I'm so happy to be a part of this blog tour and I'm so happy that Rachael Anderson writes books for me.

Love... love... LOVE The Reluctant Bachelorette! It's the second book by Rachael Anderson that I have read and I can tell you she is definitely becoming one of my favorite authors! It's so easy to forget about life with all it's stress and just get lost in her books.
I absolutely loved Taycee and was right there with her feeling ALL the emotions that she was feeling. I laughed out loud (literally)... got frustrated and wanted to throw something across the room... got sad and thought "Ugh! This is SO not fair!"... was extremely happy when things were FINALLY going right for her and Luke! And the epilogue?! *sigh* You will just have to read the book to find out why I loved it so much!! ;o) From the very beginning of this book I felt like I was right there in Shelter Springs watching all of this unfold and I loved every minute of it!!
I would HIGHLY recommend reading this book!! I can't wait to read more by Rachael Anderson!! :o)

Oh how I LOVE a good romantic comedy. Kath, this book did not disappoint. You have to know it's good when you have a very handsome hubby sitting by you on the couch(who you are completly ignoring) and this same hubby keeps asking "What are you laughing at?"
I really enjoyed Taycee. I wasn't sure about Luke during certain parts, but ended up falling for him too! I think Jessa needed to take some best friend lessons, but also realize that Taycee allowed that dynamic to happen over and over. The side characters of the story were fun too. I would love to see what happens with Jake and Jessa!!!! I think that would make for a cute follow up book.
If you have a Kindle, Nook, or any other electronic reading device, I think you should buy it, read it, and enjoy!

Wow I loved this book!! It was the cutest sweetest romance!!! If a clean romance is something you're interested in then this is the book for you.
Let's start with the unique story line of the romance. Taycee (I love that name by the way) was twenty-four and an owner of a florist shop in the small Colorado town she grew up in. Luke was her older brothers best friend and her friend too. He left for college when she was 14, and she never seemed to get over her huge crush on the guy. I loved that! How many of us had huge crushes on guys 3 or 4 years older than us when we were 14? I know I did. I didn't continue the crush after they left high school though, but I wasn't best friends with the guys like Taycee was with Luke. I just loved how I could really relate to the memories of her youth emotions. So it's been 10 years since Luke left, and now he's back in town! Dun dun dun. Hahaha I loved it. I'm sorry if this review is full of giddy-ness. :)
The story also revolved around the fact her town was trying to save their farmers. The farmers in their town were losing profit and needed a way to raise money to change their farming methods. The Bachelorette show was a way to earn money for the farmers so there are a lot of emotions Taycee deals with throughout the show. She had a lot of pressure on her for different reasons which I think really added to the depth of the story.
All I can say is I loved this book! I recommend The Reluctant Bachelorette to anyone who loves a unique, beautiful, squeal worthy romance.

Loved, loved, LOVED this book! It is cute, clean romance at its best and is definitely my new favorite of Rachael's!
As I've mentioned many (MANY) times on this blog, I am a huge fan of reality dating shows and books. However, even though The Reluctant Bachelorette is based around a reality dating show, it seemed to take a backseat to the relationship developing between Luke and Taycee.
There was such a flirtatious and playful nature to their relationship. Their bantering, pranks, and fun dates brought me back to carefree days of high school and college and the giddy feeling I got when discovering new love. I laughed at their antics and loved watching the sparks fly between them as their romance unfolded.
I can also totally relate to Taycee's distaste for change and how she just wanted to freeze time in her growing up years. It is a tough thing to move on from what seems like the perfect time in your life. However, I loved when Taycee realized that change didn't have to be a bad thing and could ultimately make her happier than before. It was a good reminder lesson for me.
If you need an entertaining and fun distraction that will definitely make you smile, then check out The Reluctant Bachelorette!

I love, love, loved this book! The moment I picked it up I couldn't put it down until every word had been devoured. The characters are well developed and multifaceted. They make you laugh, cry and sigh with them! A must read for all lovers of fun, clean romances, like me. :)

I’ve never had much luck with Amazon freebies. I think I’ve DNFed every single one of them so far. Until I stumbled upon The Reluctant Bachelorette. I was already intrigued by the premise, because I used to watch The Bachelor. Don’t judge me – you know you did, too. It’s really bad, just like your average reality show, in the sense that it is clichéd and cheesy, but I kept watching anyway because I was interested in a morbid way and I wanted to know what happened.
The Reluctant Bachelorette is the literary equivalent of that, except that it doesn’t suck, but you still need to know what happens next. It’s a really cute romance about Taycee Emerson, a girl who owns the local flower shop. She’s thrown into a blast from the past when Luke Carney decides to move back to Shelter Springs. You know, the Luke Carney she used to have a massive crush on back in high school. The one that was her brother’s best friend. She receives an even bigger shop when her best friend turns her into Shelter’s Bachelorette in an online version of the show. As it’s an attempt to raise money for their town’s farms, Taycee reluctantly agrees. However, the bets are all off when Luke becomes one of the bachelors vying for her heart.
It definitely made me smile on more than one occasion. When you have over twenty guys fighting over you, there have to be some rotten apples in the lot. We had, for instance, a guy who’s full of himself, and a guy who could not stop spitting whenever he talked. The idea was that the people could vote for the guys rather than Taycee herself, but she tries everything in her power to get Luke voted off. This causes some tension between the two, which was really enjoyable.
We see everything through Taycee’s eyes as she’s forced to be a part of this show – forced to go on dates with guys she doesn’t like. Her dates with the spitter were the most entertaining, I think. And then I got to swoon a little as we meet some genuinely charming guys. We also see her attempts to get Luke voted off the show, and her struggles to continue with the show when her feelings from the past start flourishing again. Especially when it seems like Luke’s into her too. Surely she can't fall for a guy the audience has already voted off? What would that mean for the show?
The dynamic between Taycee and Luke was really something. On the one hand, Taycee is annoyed that Luke left town after high school without saying goodbye. She's annoyed that he never called when he said he would. But she also knows that he's looking really good right now, and that he's finally paying some real attention to her. It's a double feeling, but it's so lovely to see them becoming closer. They're beautiful together.
It’s definitely one of those rainy day reads – it’ll make you feel light-hearted and fluffy, and you’ll laugh on more than one occasion. An instant favourite.

I usually like bachelor type books, but I really had a hard time getting in to this one. Right off the bat i had a hard time connecting with the main characters. They were kind of immature. And then the bachelorette thing went from bad to worse. Finally after forcing myself to keep reading it a few times I just skimmed very lightly through to the end. And what I skimmed through made me glad I didn't force myself to read anymore.
While I didn't enjoy this book, it was clean and the writing was good. I could see others really enjoying it for an easy read.

What a fun read!! I loved it!! I couldn't put it down!! Taycee is from a small Colorado town and loves living there. Several farmers are about to lose their farms and Taycee's friend Jessa has a plan to save them. Jessa comes up with the idea to do a bachelorette show and she has the perfect idea for the bachelorette, only the person she has picked doesn't want to do the show. A laugh out loud story, another favorite by Rachael Renee Anderson!

To be honest, I am not a huge fan of romances. I don't hate them--just not my thing. But I had a chance to read The Reluctant Bachelorette and was drawn in by the characters and the plot--and if you like romances, so much the better! The dialogue is crisp and real, and the emotions the characters felt--and sparked in me--were very real. This is a fun read that drew me in and also made me think. I really recommend this book.

I struggled with the premise for this book. I just couldn’t wrap my mind around the fact that a fourteen year old girl could be so devastated by an unrequited love that she kept a wall between herself and anyone she dated for such a long time. i couldn't put this one down, binged it in a day! Rachael Anderson did it with My Sister's Intended, and has done it again with The Reluctant Bachelorette . She's now one of my go-to authors for fluffy romance. The bachelorette concept was well executed and it reminded me of The Selection, one of my all time favorites. I related to Taysee, the fl, with her fear of change and i loved how the author went about how it affects you and the ones around you in her book. With sweet and likeable characters, this was a fun childhood-friends-to-lovers book, filled with fluff and humor. Really enjoyed it!

This book is amazing! The story is so GREAT! This author can WRITE! I absolutely LOVED this book! This book came highly suggested by Kathy at I Am A Reader, Not A Writer, and knowing Kathy and having read some of her suggestions in the past, I HAD to get in on this Book Tour to get to read this book! She was NOT wrong again! Thanks, Kathy!
This book grabbed my interest on the very first page! This author has a way with words where she just pulls you right into the story immediately. I've found myself a new author that I will be reading MORE of! You start reading this story and you don't stop until it's finished! Anyone who loves good, light romance, and a story full of fun!
I would also say this book will appeal to the fans who love the Reality TV shows, "The Bachelor" and "The Bachelorette" will be intrigued by this book! This book will grab your attention just like the television show does, and you must know how it ends! Who does this Bachelorette end up with, and will it be love on both their parts?
The story is fun, light, romantic, and clean which is very appealing about the book. No sex, no innuendos towards it, just a fun, crisp, reminiscent read of a school girl crush turned adult!
In an effort to help save their town, Shelter Springs, from financial ruin, and the farmers who live and farm there, Taycee's best friend comes up with an idea to help raise money for charity to help the town by doing an Internet version of "The Bachelorette", and have the viewers choose which bachelors will be voted off, and which Bachelor's stay and date Taycee. Taycee? How did she get chosen to be the Bachelorette? Well, since Taycee owes her friend a huge favor, she calls upon Taycee to be 'the bachelorette'! She will get the possibility to fall in love with one of the bachelors! Taycee is NOT happy with her friend at all, especially when she finds out an old flame from her past will be one of the bachelors who will be participating!
In the meantime, while this show is being planned, Taycee is at a local restaurant just a few doors down from the florist shop she owns. waiting to pick up a take out lunch when an old flame of hers returns to town. There he is, right behind her in the restaurant! Luke. Taycee last saw Luke when she was fourteen, when she was too young to date him, but had the biggest crush on him, and he knew it. She was absolutely dying!
So The Bachelorette show starts, the viewers choose the different bachelors for her to date, and Taycee goes on many crazy dates, so many in fact, that she is tired out! In the end, does Taycee ends up with which one of the bachelors or not? Hmmm? That is for YOU to find out!
This whole story is like this. It is so much fun, crazy, and funny! I would love to find out how this author comes up with so many zany ideas! I wonder if she had the kind of older brothers who constantly played pranks on each other all the time because this book is chock full of them!

This book has been on my TBR for over a year now and oh boy, why did I just find the time to read it now? The title, preview and the reviews intrigued me.

In a small remote town setting - Shelter Springs.
Taycee was the flower girl of the town - the happy, independent creator of bouquets. She's simply happy doing her business. She's an okay character despite acting immature, stubborn, having different views on certain things and having a hard time coping up with changes. She's okay and pretty much likeable.
Luke on the other hand, was the charismatic and great guy whom Taycee’s been crushing on since she's fourteen. He's the type of guy that is so easy to like - fun, sweet, smart and nice.
The cream of this story is Taycee's dates with the guys. The fun, romantic and even the awkward dates makes me love this story more. The concept was just hilariously fun!
I have watched several episodes of TV Shows The Bachelor or The Bachelorette and I'm honestly not a fan of it. I mean, how can you fall in love and find someone that easy? In a span of a few days or a week? But on the hindsight of my mind there is this sweet, swoony part of me that can’t help but feel happy for them. This story has the same context as to those TV Shows; however this one is done for a good cause and the author owned it. She totally owned it as her own.
Overall, it is a very sweet, easy and feel good story to read contemporary/romance novel. Reluctant Bachelorette is my first book of the author Rachael Anderson and won't definitely be the last. I'll be on the look out for more of her upcoming contemporary/romance novels.

First, let me start by telling you that I have a special affection for this book because I won Rachel's "name the town" contest! She held a contest on her blog. And my town - Shelter Springs got the most votes! It is soo cool reading a book that has a town that I named! AND... the book was good!
I loved the characters in this book! I just loved Taycee, she was so adorable, a little spitfire, but adorable. I liked Luke but I wasn't all gaga for him. Guess I just like a different kind of guy. I also liked Taycee's friend Jessa (love that name by the way).
I loved the way the author had scenes in different places - The diner, the flower shop, etc. it really gave the book that small town feel as you got to know the different places around town. It really felt like it could have taken place in my own small home town.
The storyline idea, having a "Bachelorette show" for charity (to help the farms of the town) was a great and very original idea. I actually live in a town with a lot of farms and I know many of the farmers and their families, so I know how hard it is and how one bad season can throw them back so much. Also included in the storyline was the idea of Organic farming. I also thought this was great! I am a vegetarian and I buy most of my food from local farms and Amish stands. I also do try to buy as much organic and I can. So this was really a cute Chick-Lit with a bigger purpose!
I loved the way she focused in on a few of the male contestants, it was fun to see all the different losers, I mean characters she could come up with, LOL. I loved the one who spit every time he talked and the one who just wanted to talk about motocross all the time. Each one was so different and fun to read about.

So unbelievably cute! This was by far my favorite of Rachael's books to date. An absolutely delightful romp into the world of reality TV. Taycee Emerson just wants to be left alone. To wallow. And nurse her broken heart. The object of her desire/disgust? Luke Carney. Luke is the perfect oblivious boy. His best friend's little sister followed him and his friend around constantly and was there in all his boyhood memories- as the pig tailed little sister he never had himself. He can't help it if he was charming and handsome, and she fell head over her 14 year old heels for him. He can't help it if he broke her heart by never calling or writing. Come on, he had a life to live. Now he's back in the small town where they grew up and,...little Taycee Lynn is a full grown gorgeous woman now! How does one act around a best buddy turned goddess?!? Luke sure doesn't know. Taycee knows just what to do about him- stay away! When Tayce ends up as a bachelorette dating 21 guys on a reality show to save her town, things get a little crazy. Especially when Luke is one of the bachelors! What's a girl to do? Get him voted off, and quick. Taycee is a sweet, quirky and funny gal who has never gotten over her first crush. Looking for love in all the wrong places has never been so fun:)

I absolutely LOVED this story!!! Taycee unknowingly is entered into a small town's internet version of The Bachelorette, which is being done to raise money to save the small-town farmers. She hasn't been able to get over Luke and when he returns after 10 years, Taycee isn't sure how she feels about him anymore.
I've said it before and I'll say it again--I have no idea why I have this fascination with Bachelor-type books, but I do and this one was great, clean fun!!! I loved getting to know some of the guys and I loved the relationship between Taycee and her brother.
Sometimes authors say how hard it is to write and edit and all that, but I'm sure glad that Rachael put in that effort because this was a really fabulous book!!!! I seriously can't wait for her to come out with another one. :)

OK, here's my major "what?!" with the book. Someone 'falls in love' at age 14 with a guy she's never dated and can't get over him. So. Not. Real. Ever. They didn't even date. She had a crush on her brother's best friend that left for college. Then, she gets hurt because he never wrote or called. This is puppy love. I kept thinking she must have been older and that they'd dated. Nope. Nothing. She just liked him and has carried a torch all these years.
I can't believe anyone can truly fall in love at 14, so the whole book rang false, which is too bad, because the whole bachelorette premise was cute. The writing was entertaining too. The book itself would have gotten a much higher rating, but I could not get over the whole falling in 'true love' at 14. Are we in the middle ages? Noooo. She should have at least been 17 when he left the town for it to be somewhat plausible.

Small town flower shop owner, 24year old woman, is hung up on a childhood crush she had as a 14year old on the buddy of her older brother. When said crush returns to town, she is forced at the same time to be a bachelorette in a scheme to safe the town. He becomes one of the competitors.
While I do not like the setup, and the scheme to safe the town is pretty unbelievable, it was a fun and entertaining (and clean) read.

Loved this book. Fun and entertaining clean romance. Likable characters and interesting storyline. I love Rachael Anderson's writing and can't wait for her next book. I've told my daughters they can't read it until they have a couple of days off of school--otherwise their homework will suffer.

Loved this new sweet, clean romance from Rachael Anderson (I've loved all her books)! I've read several Bachelor/Bachelorette type stories recently and I thought this had a great unique take on the whole thing -- and not what I expected either!
