“We share nothing,” I whispered, my words coming out slow and labored.
“We’ll see,” he said, taking his bandana and wiping the blood from his lips. “We both understand loss.”
“I haven’t lost myself,” I breathed. “Not like you, Jack.”
“Perhaps not,” he said, sitting back in his chair. “But we have both lost people that we love. We have both been lied to and been betrayed by them.”
“That hasn’t made me a monster like you,” I said.......
This book was like a crescendo of words. The build up to .........well, I can’t say but it is rather explosive!
KabOOoooooMMMmmmm!!
‘Dead Statues’ had me in this incredible natural high of banter, emotion, fast paced storyline. Murphy and Potter, they have such magical character chemistry.
Tim swings us away from the banter and all the other characters we are used to in this instalment. This is a private showing with few characters we already know and we meet new characters. I am going to put it out there, I think every individual reader is going to think they had sorted Jack Seth in their mind from all the previous works Tim has written in the Kiera Hudson series.
I know I had.
But......!!!!!
I am a mum and I ‘feel’ for the lost boy.
Tim gives us intermissions of the Jack Seth we know and a story within a story of Jack who like the best of the baddies we know of, they were all once a child.
What makes an evil person go from a little boy to a man that let the curse take him over and devour the good in that boy, the good in Jack, eat it up until there was nothing left but a shell of a character that thrived on evil and the despicable?
What does it take?
This story is chilling, emotional, you will ‘feel’ at times different towards Jack, you can’t help it, there will be gore.
By the time you have finished this, you will be banging on Tim’s facebook door wanting Dead Water and no doubt you will be like me and left a bit like one of Tim’s statues.
The ‘Tim Factor’ is ever present, and you will be shocked. I can say no more as always in Tim’s books, he is becoming quite the Master of Deceit and he will twist you into a knot.
I must mention the brilliant cover. It does grab your attention, Jack Seth with Kiera in his clutches. This cover does evoke feelings in the viewer. It definitely has a 3D 'feel' to it for me. Miss Suzi Midnight cover designer has done it again.

I don't know whether to think you are a bloody evil genius and clap you on your back for putting readers into shock, or truly believe that you are bloody daft in the head and gone off the blooming deep end after writing 10 books in this series. Maybe a little of both I would venture to say.
I mean, really, Kiera being a ......? We have to learn what may, or may not be the truth behind why Jack Seth turned into an awful SOB with axes to grind on Potter, Murphy and especially Kiera. I just don't buy it. I don't buy that he's anything more than a manipulative piece of junk that needs a thorough butt kicking by Potter, or even Murphy. After 10 books (including Potter spinoffs) we then have to sit through Jack Seth's song and dance routine and pity party to make him more accommodating to readers and maybe feel a bit of pity for the poor bloke because of his upbringing?
Even though I don’t buy it, I guess it was time to learn about the piece of work known as Jack Seth and why he seems to have many, many problems with Kiera and crew. After-all, we finally learned Potter's secrets, had Murphy return from the dead only to discover that he has his own past that intersects with Kiera’s father, lost Isidor because of Jack Seth’s own actions, and now Kayla is being hunted down as well also because of Jack Seth’s actions. See the correlation here?
After reading about Jack Seth’s childhood, I'm understandably puzzled as to why you (Tim) decided to go in this direction. You have to admit that readers will probably want to grill you for hours upon hours asking you why we would suddenly care about Jack Seth after all the terrible things that he’s done over the course of this series. The only mystery that I wanted answered, was what happened after Kiera told Jack to kill her in Vampire Hollows. Not getting that answer YET, I shall endeavor to carry on until Dead Water releases around Christmas time.
Best regards.
PS - Please, Please, Please give Kiera a HEA. Please allow her some dignity so that she can hold her head high after being tossed around like so much garbage. If she has to go out, let her take all her enemies with her!
wow!I am not sure where to begin.Dead Seth took me on a serious emotional journey.Little Jack stole my heart and it broke over and over for what he endured.I found "little me" relating to little Jack throughout the book.I endured alot of pain as a child as well.I found myself almost questioning my sanity while reading the horrible tales in this book.Tim has weaved such and amazing story line, lovely, and twisted characters throughout the Kiera series. Those characters are part of my life now.I started thinking about how the monsters of our world were once children, most likely abused and pushed to be the monsters they become. On that note,as Jack has said over and over,a choice must be made.A person (or monster) has a choice no matter what they went through as children...where they go in life and whether or not they continue the pain.I look at Jack Seth now in a different light. One with understanding. He will continue to haunt my dreams though.Mr.O'Rourke...I pray that one day you win an award for this series and recieve the recognition you so well deserve. You are simiply the best of the best. You are a master at what you do.Thank you for always taking me on such an unbelievable journey.
OMG! Tim you always seem to leave me buzzing for more. And when I said in my last review that Dead Statues was the darkest Kiera Hudson book, boy I was wrong. This book is filled with dark secrets and even darker twist. Just when you think you figured it out...BAM! Tim hits you with a new twist. One of my favorite Kiera Hudson Books to date.
Amazing read it in one day than bought the next one and finished that in a day. I need dead waters to support my habit lol. Awesome book was not expecting to feel any sympathy towards jack but I kinda feel sorry for the dude and I will say I was not expecting the twist. Very engaging read. LOVE IT!!!
Oh come on! Really?? Shocker yes, but I was so bored once we got to the tales from jack. I found myself skimming. What happened to the awesome books? I just couldn't get into this one, sorry. On to the next one. I still love the series but I just couldn't love this book. Still love ya Tim!
Again, Tim O'Rourke has left the reader completely shocked. I do not usually begin my review with the end of the book, however, it is the end which unravels some serious revelations, after many twists and turns. I love how these novels surprise the reader. They are unpredicatble and yet still believable and in line with the whole series. Hence, the five stars that it truly deserves.
The writing is excellent, as in 'Dead Seth (Keira Hudson Series Two, Book 4)' we are subjected to the history and background behind Jack Seth, the Lycanthrope, the cursed killer wolf. This novel is written from mostly Jack Seth's point of view as he narrates to Keira his story of how he became cursed and detailing the life that he led growing up. As in most of the Keira Hudson novels there are many twists and turns, especially on the emotional scale. This book is no exception.
We realise the many corners that Jack Seth's life turned, how he was mentally tormented and how unstable his whole family life was. It would be wrong of me to reveal anything more without spoiling the story as this is a must-read. There are moments when the reader hates what he is doing and other moments when we feel compassion and understanding for him. Once the reader is engrossed in the thick of the story it is easy to empathise with Jack and I must admit that, apart from the paranormal/fantasy side, there are elements that feel very real. The mental torment, lies, betrayal, and the instability are all elements that real people, real children have lived through and are living through.
Keira's point of view is also told in 'Dead Seth', as she is desperately wanting to escape in order to save her father and Potter. However, as Jack is telling her his story she does feel for him. At the same time she is gradually turning to stone which proves difficult for her to even talk to him at times. During the whole read I kept asking myself; will she escape, will she rescue her father, Potter, or both or will she turn into a statue?
Throughout the first half of the book I did feel the need to know exactly what Potter was doing and how Murphy and Kayla were. This is no different to when reading the novella, 'Dead Night - Potter's Secrets (Keira Hudson Series 2, Book 1.5)', and 'Dead Angels (Keira Hudson Series Two, Book 2)' where we are told Potter's story and in the latter, Isidor's. As these books focus on the one character mostly I did terribly miss the others and was desperate to know what they were going through and what they were thinking.
However, in hindsight, I think that this is a fantastic way of writing as it allows the reader to get up close and personal with each character, good and bad, and become fully aware of them and understand their point of view. It also makes it the more exciting when we are reunited with the other characters in the following books as we have waited with eager anticipation and cannot wait to sink our minds into the next adventure.
All of the Keira Hudson books are interwoven and provide a great backbone for all of the others. I would strongly recommend that any reader of this book, along with 'Dead Statues (Keira Hudson Series Two, Book 3)', should read the earlier books and novellas of series one and series two. This would really assist the reader in understanding the whole picture: where these characters have come from, their adventures together and also their connection between each story and the other characters.
I simply cannot wait for the next instalment, 'Dead Water'. However, I am glad that I am finally up-to-date with the series.
Wow! This book left me speechless. Here we have the infamous Jack Seth, evil beyond comparison, divulging his poignant and often times gut wrenching side of the story. His is one of heartache, betrayal, and lies, all of which molded him into the convicted killer that he is so unashamed of being. And though Kiera hated to admit it, and though I didn’t want to, either, his story made me really feel for him. Though he’s been a terror to Kiera, Potter, Murphy, and the whole rest of the gang, there is actually a reason he turned out to be who he is today, and though he is a terrifying monster, his heart wasn’t always this way.
As I read this story, I was extremely excited because I believed I’d figured out O’Rourke’s plot prior to the big reveal. But, O’Rourke always hits the reader with an exceptional bout of twists that leave them reeling, and that’s exactly what happened in this novel as well. I should have known that the foreshadowing would only allow me to see a small piece of the puzzle, but I really thought I had it all figured out. And, though I had the main gist correct, never, in a million years, did I see any of the other connections O’Rourke makes coming. Truth be told, I was floored, once again. It amazes me just how intricate and perfect O’Rourke’s stories turn out to be, and I can’t fathom how he is able to keep surprising his readers with new information as the plot thickens, but it’s his gift, and I love him for it. Dead Seth is another amazing novel in the Kiera Hudson series and I highly suggest you pick up the series today. You won’t be disappointed!
Given an impossible choice by Jack Seth to choose who to save, Kiera is stalling for time in the hope she can find a way out of this situation. Tim takes us on a journey into the childhood of our very own villain who has been terrorising Keira, Potter, Murphy and the group for what feels like forever. Learning about where Jack comes from and the abuse he suffered from his seriously demented mother is tragic as her crimes are beyond horrific and had a long lasting effect on her children. This book gives us valuable insight into his broken psyche yet it does nothing to excuse his behaviour. Of course I sympathise with the lost little boy who was abused and betrayed and you would be heartless if you did not feeling something but he no longer exists. It is like growing up in the ghetto surrounded by death and drugs. Some people escape and make a decent life for themselves using that as an example to motivate them to be better people. Others struggle and eventually succumb to the violence claiming they had no choice. In the end I believe it all comes down to your desire and strength of will to choose a better life. The theory of 6 degrees of separation seems to be alive and well spanning a lifetime of well kept secrets that will change Kiera's life. A startling revelation at the end and one I did not see coming, the ramifications of whatever She chooses will haunt her as someone will have to die. Betrayal is a dangerous thing, so many sides to a story and as Confucius would say “Before you embark on a journey of revenge, dig two graves.”
Wow. Though I got where it was going, I'm still a little unsure about the tiny details (I can't say anything at all without giving it away. Really. It's not a cop-out like most people use; anything I say will give all the shock away) . Maybe that's the disadvantage of reading a lot, and also nearly every single one of an author's books (in this case, Tim's). But I don't regret it. And for the same reason I don't mind spoilers - just because a simplified sentence tells me a plot point, it doesn't take away from it because it doesn't give all the information and specifics. Maybe I'm weird or odd that way. That's okay, whatever. I don't care. All I know is back a couple months ago I took a chance and read Vampire Shift, and there was no mistake in that.
These books are some of the best I've read in the last year! And Tim is a very personable guy. It all makes me miss England too. Well, Scotland, but in the area I'm thinking of, it's much the same.
Kiera is one of the best heroines I've cone across; she has strength (physically, emotionally, psychologically, morally) and she's still not afraid to be vulnerable. And she doesn't shy away from fear. Of the characters I'm loving and reading now (the last year or two), Kiera is the one whom I would want, DO want, to take after - for those traits to have as much resolve and fight in me as they do her.
Kudos, Tim! Another Moonlight book to read would be great too! (If you're reading/listening at all! *wink wink*)
There isn't enough stars to properly rate your work Mr. O'Rourke. So far I've only read both Kiera Hudson series and I'm amazed more and more with each new book. Perfectly balanced emotions, insight into human mind, believable characters, original plot, something totaly fresh and increadible in the literature's world today. You, Mr. O'Rourke, are not afraid to be too brutal or too soft. You're not afraid to reveal the human 'raw' nature, you do not deny it like most people do. I guess, it's easier to write about some things than talk. The truth is we are in constant fight with our own nature, we're both good and evil, prey and vilain. It's our choice how we balance these two forces. The choices we make shape us.
I know it is supposed to be some sort of review and instead you get my inner philosophical bubbling. The book was great and left me speachless, thoughtful, yearning for more. Some truths will be revealed, some lies will be told but you want be able to stop until you reach the end and want some more . . . Thank you Mr. O'Rourke.
OH MY GAWD, I don't even know where to go from here my head is spinning in so many different directions right now. Usually I can go on & on talking about Tim's books, but after this one I have no idea what to say. I'm just in complete awe at this mans genius. I really can't say much of anything about the story without killing the plot & I wouldn't do that to anyone. What I can say is this one dives into the head of psycho Jack Seth & you will NEVER expect where that takes you! Its loaded with the typical O'Rourke style blood-guts & gore action, plenty of suspense, & the surprises.......OH MY!!! You will NEVER, in your wildest imaginings, see this one coming. He has really outdone himself this time. I'm am totally at a complete loss as to where we go from here. And the ending?!? Talk about your cliffhangers!! I will be clawing my eyes out waiting for the next book. I see alot of Facebook stalking in Mr. O'Rourkes immediate future. I need 'Dead Waters' like NOW!!
This is one f*cked up back story, Tim, Kiera's been enough.
And srsly, what the heck happened to Potter?!
Gah! Can't believe it all came down to this!
There's so much that happened in DEAD SETH even if it's The Villain's book. Unexpected dots were connected and now the story is looking like this one ugly, deadly web. My only regret is that Potter was absent throughout the book, when Dead Statues ended, Potter is caught in a sticky mess. Nevertheless, this latest one-act installment on Tim's Kiera Hudson series is brimming with revelations, frustrating situations and unlikely associations. DEAD SETH pulled me in different directions and now the only thing I want for Jack Seth is peace and forgiveness.
I must say I wasn't real thrilled over the thought of a book told from Jack Seth's viewpoint at first. But as the story unfolds, I began to really feel for little Jack and what he went through during his childhood. It really shows so much insight into how he became the serial killer he was and why he did what he did. Without a doubt Kiera's viewpoint was secondary and not nearly as interesting as Jack's, but still good. Overall dark like Dead Statues, but more graphic. So much is explained in this book and leaves you with an OMG, it all makes sense now!! feeling.
And the ending... Well played, Mr O'Rourke, well played!
'Dead Seth' started off very slow and I was really afraid Tim gave us a lemon. However, this most definitely was not a lemon. This book gives you a lot of background into why Jack Seth is the way that he is. Since I am not a huge fan of Jack Seth it took a little getting used to, sincere since the majority of the story is about him. However, it did pick up the pace and turned into a terrific book (which is what we always get from Tim). So don't give up too soon. This book is a HUGE piece of the puzzle and you simply cannot skip it. I believe you will be left in pure shock with your mouth wide open in disbelief.
Wow, Cannot believe how much I absolutely loved this book,as it was mostly about Seth and he's one evil character but it was great to read what made him into the person he is today, and you gotta feel sorry for the guy and you can understand why he turned out the way he did. As I was nearing the end you try and piece the bits of the puzzle together and where it was leading and I thought no, never that can't be OMG another great ending as always which you never see coming and another emotional train ride, bring on the next one a must on anyones christmas list!!!
I love to be surprised, astonished, dismayed and excited – indeed I was all!! How in the world Tim comes up with these ideas, is beyond me… brilliant. The whole book had twists, turns, turns twists – wow! I knew there would be some big surprises, as always… but the end OH. MY. GOOD. GOD!!!
It seems that Tim O'Rourke wants to take us on another trip to the past along an emotionally stressful roller coaster and I love it! So much goes on in this book, so much comes to light and I couldn't have been more shocked! To learn about the past and how this affects our current characters in such drastic ways is unbelievable. I did not see it coming at all and I was so shocked to learn about some of these. I was not expecting to learn so much about Seth and to end up empathising with him after all that he's done. You end up learning that some of the stuff we disliked Seth for, he didn't even do! And we learn about his family, who the mysterious wolf truly is that helped Kiera in series one and we learn a lot about Kiera that we never knew. Thus derailed Kiera so much and threatens her current relationships with the characters we love. So many bombshells are thrown at us in this series and I could not stop reading for one second. It so heartbreaking to see what this does to Kiera and how it makes her lash out at the people closest to her but to be honest I don't blame her, I don't think I would have handled the reveals well at all. It's so sad to see her ultimately back in square one with yet another life altering factor dropped on her in the most harsh of ways. Despite feeling bad for Kiera and all she's been through in the past and most recently I'm excited to see what comes next and how she deals with it.
Speeeeeeechless I am!!! This was beyond good...so shocking that I needed to go back n review whole the story from the very first book, while closing my eyes ,in order to be able to esp. digest the last chapter!!!!
I couldn't imagine that I ever wanted to know about Jack Seth's past, but it was made in such a way that it became one of my favorites of the series.
Mr. Author! thank you from the bottom of my heart for putting me in such a challenge experiencing different emotions all at once! You're Unique.
Seth a good guy, ever? Nah, can't be!! His life story is amazing, full of twsts and turns that made me hate him a little less, have a little respect for him. Does Kiera go through the same as she listens? How does this story affect Kiera's feelings for her own father? And for Murphy and the others? And even worst, for Seth? This is the eye of a hurricane in which Kiera is the center and she has no way out... or does she? Will she be saved or shall will she have to fend for herself and defeat the worst enemy she has ever encountered? Will she be able to defend herself against her own emotional turmoil? Kiera is a strong character, but she's now hurt, and confused and needs to be able to stand on her own two feet before this continues, and yet, Seth seems to open a new doorway for her, a door to be able to save the ones she loves.
